Re-authorizing computer to play purchased content (movies)

Hi guys,
I am having a hard time with itunes and re-authorizing my computer to play purchased videos on my macbook pro currently running lion and the latest version of itunes.  The problem is that i am repeatedly asked to authorize my computer to play the movies that i have purchased from the itunes store.  i have done this about 30 times already and i should only have to do it once.  I wouldnt care if i had to do it once it a while, but i get frustrated with it when i am traveling and do not have the ability to re-authorize (like on a plane).  i wanted to buy the movies on itunes so i could have them available when i travel.  i contacted itunes support and they told me that i should sign out of itunes on all my devices (macbook pro, ipod touch 4th, and iphone 4) which i did with no luck.  please help me to resolve this problem.  any help would be greatly appreciated! thanks!

anybody out there have an idea? still experiencing the problem and i did not get any solutions from the apple support.

  • Re authorizing computer to play purchased music?

SO, ive bought a few things from itunes, and then my computer was having problems so we backed everything up and then wiped it and re installed everything like it was new. When i put the music back on it said i had to authorize my computer to play the music ive purchased on my account, and i did but then it told me i had authorized 2 of the 5 computers im allowed to authorize. Is there any way i can fix that? cus really this is the same computer, so when i get a new one ill be on my third "authorization" and thats not quite right...

ohhh ok so i can only fix it once im up to my full 5 computers? alright well now ill rememeber to un authorize this one before i get rid of it. So in the case taht your computer just completely crashes before you can do antyhing you just have to wait till youre up to your full 5 authorizations to do anything about it?

  • Problems authorizing computer to play purchased tracks.

I, too, appear to be one of the unfortunate souls who upgraded to iTunes 7.3.1 (3). I can open iTunes just fine, and all my purchased tracks and playlists are still there. However, when I try to play a purchased track, I get the following message: "This computer is not authorized to play...Would you like to authorize it?" So I type my password and click on authorize. But then I get the following message: "There was an error in the iTunes Store. Please try again later." Has anyone else experienced this problem? Is there really a problem with the iTunes Store? Or is the problem with iTunes?

I did a search of other questions for iTunes and found a fix to this problem. It involved fixing permissions. I wish I had more details, but I can't remember all the details. You will need to search the other questions.

  • Apple TV not playing purchased content. iTunes account Issue?

Like many others, I'm having issues getting Apple TV to play purchased content for a specific iTunes account. After hitting the play button, the movie or TV show thinks about it then reverts back to the information page.  This has been happening for just under a week.
I have two other accounts on my Apple TV, and they are both working OK. I asked another mate with an Apple TV to load my account onto his unit and he gets the same issue.
In an attempt to rectify the issue I have:
Reset my password fo itunes. No luck.
Restored the factory settings on the Apple TV. No luck.
Double check account and billing details. No Luck.
I really want to get this resolved. Can someone suggest a fix please!

    SOLVED.
I had the same problem minutes ago... I solved it by signing out my apple id from the apple tv and then sign in again. Movies start playing now! Hope this works for you too

  • Apple TV won't play purchased content

Apple TV 2 and Apple TV 3 - Software version 6.2.1 - same problem happening on both of my Apple TV devices.
I have almost full access to the iTunes store from both of my Apple TV devices.  I can access Netflix and I can make iTunes purchases of movies and songs, etc.  When I try to watch the movie I've purchased, it begins to load, goes to "authorizing" and then I get the message:  "iTunes is currently unavailable.  Try again later."  This has been happening since last weekend.  I talked to numerous representatives who really never helped and seemed to just try and placate me with a generic answer that would get me off their phone so that they could move on to a problem they COULD solve.  The last rep, who was supposed to be a higher level rep told me that a server was down and it would come back in 24-48 hours.  I didn't believe him when he said it and clearly that wasn't the problem since I am still having problems.  AGAIN TODAY I've tried everything I can think of including restarting over and over, reseting the Apple TV and finally restoring the Apple TV to factory settings, which seems to have disabled my iTunes account and required me to go to "iForgot" to reset my password.  I did all of this which took at least an hour of my time and in the end, I get the same error.  Over the years I have spent literally thousands of dollars on content that I cannot access.  I have read older issues where people have had similar problems but they usually get a few minutes into the movie before that happens.  I can't get the movie (or song, etc.) to even start to play.  I can get the movie to play from my iPad though.  I have reopened my case.  I am so frustrated right now because I have movies that I bought that I can't watch.  Any ideas??

I have been getting frustrated with this as well.
I purchase content on my iMac, download it to my HDD then normally access that content on my ATV via "Home Sharing." Prior to the iOS 8 and Yosemite updates to all of the devices, this scenario worked perfectly.
Ever since the updates have been installed, I have to reboot EVERYTHING (router, iMac, ATV) to get my iTunes library show up on the ATV, then after I watch a movie and come back to watch another, I have to reboot EVERYTHING again.
My fix has been to unplug the ATV and access my Ultraviolet movies on my PS3 until such time as Apple can come up with a proper fix. It's nice to have a device that works properly.

  • How do i activate my computer to play purchased songs?

I have read the "activate" instructions and activated purchased music, but itunes keeps askiing me to activate when I try to play a song that I purchased on another computer.
I transfered my music from a PC to my new Mac using my iPod as a disk. I am updating my iPod on the Mac. iTunes says that songs purchased at the Music Store cannot be put on the iPod because I have not authorized my new Mac. I then click on the song, as though to play it, and a screen pops up to allow me to enter my apple ID and password. I enter my current ID, which is different than the email address I used to purchase the music (an ID that seems to no longer exist), and my current password. iTunes tells me that I have now authorized the computer to play the given song. However, when I click on that same song, I am told to authorize again.
What is happening? How can I fix this so I can play purchased songs on my new computer?
    Thanks!
    Nicole

Nicole, Welcome to the discussion area!
I don't know how you ended up here, but your question has absolutely nothing to do with the AirPort Extreme or wireless networking. Instead you should post your question in the iTunes discussion area.

  • Playing purchased content on other iPods?

Besides myself, there are three more iTunes users in my household (2 Mac, 1 PC). After authorising their machines they can play my purchased content over the LAN, if we enable iTunes sharing.
Is there a way of getting that content onto their individual iPods (which are all under control of iTunes on the respective machines)? Shared iTunes libraries apparently cannot be synced to the iPod. Is there another way?
    Cheers
    Steffen.

If you want the purchases on the other iPods, you will need to transfer the
purchases over to the other computer by use of backup discs or some other
    method.
Yep, that worked. Too easy! Thanks very much! I didn't realise one could backup just the purchased stuff... (probably because I've never backed up my iTunes library before)
    Cheers
    Steffen.

  • Authorizing computer to play music from old account

I am trying to access music purchased on an old account, but no one remembers the password and the email address associated with the account no longer exists. How can I authorize my computer to play this music?

You need to contact Apple; to do this, either click here and fill out the form or contact the Account Security team.

  • Authorized computer not syncing purchase movies to iphone

Hello, I recently brought my computer back to life and I am having problems syncing certain purchased movies from my computer to my iphone.  Everything syncs well except for some movies.  I got the authorize computer message and did that but the problem persists.  Everything checks out with the location of the movies and I am able to play them on my computer in the itunes session.  I just can't get them over to my iphone4 which I was able too previously.
Couple of notes.  My computer died and I have it restored all as is with exception to the new mother board etc.  Everything else works as expected other than this issue.
    Please help if possible.
    thx

They must be in a format to play on the iphone or they will not sync. Select the movie in itunes, then Advanced>Create Ipod/Iphone version. Select that version to sync to your phone. You can also use handbrake to create iphone versions & then drag them to itunes. Handbrake has presets for the iphone:

  • Cannot stream or play purchased content - Apple TV connected to a Win PC

    Can anyone help here please?
I have what seems to be a common issue.
I have a crossover ethernet cable connecting my Apple TV to my PC running Windows. Everything works fine on content that I have ripped myself, however anything purchased from iTunes will not play for lack of 'authorization'. Applecare support told me that the root issue is that my Apple TV is not seeing the internet via the PC. As evidenced in my inability to stream movie trailers etc.
However they said that they could not help at all with any changes that may be needed to the PC/Windows network setup. (A tad strange and unhelpful when Apple are selling the device to work with PC's)
Surely Apple TV would stream from the internet via it's connection to iTunes?
As although the PC and Apple TV are connected and working together, the Apple TV is not visable within the Windows explorer as a networked device. Also running the Windows network wizard does not help as Apple TV is not a conventional client device.
I am going around in circles of ever mounting frustation here, anyone with a PC as against a Mac who has been through this and found a solution, your feedback would be gratefully accepted! - Many thanks.

Surely Apple TV would stream from the internet via
    it's connection to iTunes?
Nope. If it did this, among other things iTunes would always have to be running for you to access any of the content streamed directly from the Internet to the Apple TV (movie trailers where available, software updates, soon YouTube videos, etc.).
Instead, Apple TV requires its own Internet connection, just as does any other networked computer accessing Internet content. Your setup doesn't provide that, since the Apple TV is connected only to your PC.
I can't tell you why your PC doesn't recognize Apple TV as a networked device -- I'm strictly a Mac user -- but I can tell you that a simple solution to the problem is to connect the Apple TV & any PC's you have to a router & the router to your Internet access device (typically a cable or DSL modem).
Routers are inexpensive, particularly if you don't need wireless (WiFi) capabilities or can get by without the latest "n" speed wireless versions. There are a number of reasons to use one, even in a small network. For instance, almost all routers have built-in firewalls capable of protecting your PC from various forms of attack.
Some modems have built-in routers but generally people use purpose-designed, stand-alone ones with several "LAN" (local area network) Ethernet ports, a single "WAN" (wide area network) port, & an internal bridge to connect the two together. Most also have wireless capabilities, sometimes referred to as "WLAN" (for wireless local area network), with bridges that connect them all together. Generically, these devices are known as "broadband routers" or sometimes "cable/DSL routers."
Searching on these terms will bring up a wealth of information about them, or visit any computer shop -- the products are very popular anywhere broadband Internet service is available.
Alternately, you may be able to configure your PC itself as a router. On Macs, this is very easy (just enable "Internet Sharing") but I have no experience with the Windows equivalent, assuming there is one.
Edit: Winston's post wasn't visible when I started my reply; thus some of this post duplicates what he says.

  • ITouch Doesn't Play Purchased Content

The very first time I synced my iPod Touch with my computer, I got this error when trying to play a video on it: "This movie could noe be played." I also experienced that purchased music would not play either. When I clicked on the purchased music file, it would just stay at the beginning of the song. If i moved the song slider to the middle of the song and pressed play, the play button would recognize that I pressed it, but the symbol would stay the same and the music still wouldn't play. My other music files that I retrieved off of CDs would play though. What I did to fix it, which I think was just luck, was to sync it again. I don't know what was wrong, or why it got fixed either. Now it happened again, for the second time, and when I tried syncing it again, it stayed the same and the problem persisted. I was on 1.1.2 the first time, and now I am on 1.1.4

I simply went to Settings -> General -> Reset -> Reset all settings, and the problem was solved. I'm sorry that I didn't try that before posting this, because I could have saved myself the time to type this.

  • Authorising second computer to play purchases from ITunes

I now find that I cannot play songs purchased from ITunes on second computer, this has just happened recently. These were purchased using my old E-MAIL address and it keeps asking me to authorise using the old e-mail and  password for that account which I cannot remember. Apple cannot send me an e-mail to reset my password to that address as it is no longer in use.
It won't let me authorise using my new ID and password. Can anybody tell me how I can solve this.
    Many Thanks

Found out the bad news awhile back that I can no longer purchase from the iTunes store because I am using the Jaguar operating system which will not take iTunes 7. OK, got over that. Then today I tried to move a song purchased at work on a newer computer to my old one. Surprise, surprise. Won't even let you do that. Is there a way to rip the M4P file so I can play it at home?
