Re-authorizing music bought on a different account

Hi all
I bought some music on an iTunes account a couple of years ago, then lost access to the e-mail related to that account so I couldn't reset my password, etc. I didn't really have use of a computer either, so I saved all the music I had onto an external hard disk, where it's sat doing nothing for a while.
Now I've bought a laptop, and imported all that music back into my library, and I want to put some of it onto my iPhone. So I created a new iTunes account as I could not get access to the old one, but I can't seem to transfer the music bought on the old account onto the iPhone. I'm being asked to provide authority using the password of the original iTunes account, which I don't know and can't access the e-mail account it's attached to anyway, so I can't get my password reset.
Any ideas?
Also, I was trying to authorise this laptop a few days ago, and it wouldn't work. I got the problem sorted, but while I was researching the solutions I was invited into a chat box with an Apple support rep. I can't find this anywhere on the site now. Anyone know anything about that?
Thanks in advance.
Bill

You can only authorize those tracks through that original account; there's no way around it. You can reset the password here:
https://iforgot.apple.com/
if you remember the security questions you initially set up. If you don't, you'll need to contact the iTunes Store customer service group through the form at the bottom of their web page and explain the problem to them. They should be able to help you sort out the problem with your account login.

Chat is not always available, nor available for all topics. Where and when it is available, the link will be at the bottom of the iTunes Store support page relevant to the problem. You can select the topic from the iTunes Store Customer Service page.

  • Sharing music on same computer, different accounts

I am the administrator of my computer, and would like to share my music files with my kids (and vise versa), who log in under different account names on same computer. How do I create a "common" set of music files that all of us can access under different accounts?

I have never done this, but what I would recommend is...
Get your kids to Duplicate their iTunes folder in their own account, and append their name to the duplicate, before moving (not copying, or you may soon run out of space) this to the Shared folder.
Then follow the advice above, except for the bit about not trashing the kids folders, as they will still have their main iTunes folders in their own accounts. After you've found that everything works ok, you can then ask your kids to clear out their own iTunes libraries to free up space.
    Two things before starting:
    - check there is enough space on your hard drive
    - BACK UP all the iTunes folders to an external hard drive, or to DVDs

  • Mac is saying iPhoto was bought on a different account

My mac keeps saying that the iPhoto software was bought under a different apple account and wont let me update.
Also I cant get my 5S to pair with the Mac either

Log out of the App Store and then log back in again. If the problem persists then  Contact App Store support. There's a link on the right hand side of the App Store Window. They're the only ones who can sort out account issues.

  • Will iCloud work with Pages bought from a different account

    Hey,
    Here is my question.
My mom bought iWork(Pages,Keynote, and Numbers) using her own accout and authorized her account to iMac that we share at home.
I'm wondering if I can get these apps to my iPhone and sync it with my iCloud account, which differs from the buyer- my mom-'s account.
if somebody tried this before, please let me konw ASAP.
    thank you!

The problem has been a long standing problem due to Comcast's use of POP for third-party mail applications. This means you can delete a Comcast message on your iPhone Mail app but it will still appear on your MacBook. Comcast will need to allow IMAP account management, and they have been reluctant to do this for years. IMAP alllows synchonizing of folders and trash among devices.
The problem is out of Apple's hands. It also affects Android phones. You can install the Xfinity Mobile app to manage messages on the iPhone, and use the web-based access to manage the messages on the MacBook. That is the only way to permanently delete or move messages.

  • Itunes says my computer is no loger authorized to play/sync music bought on my account. Suddenly is not recognizing updated email address.

Late last year (I believe) I updated the email on file for my itunes account, so that the one on file would be my most up-to-date current email. I have had no problems until now, when, trying to sync my most recently purchased music album to my ipod, a pop up happened saying that my computer was no longer authorized to play music bought with this account, yada-yada, and unless I signed it and r-authorized it, 400+ songs would be removed from the ipod. The original address was what appeared auto-filled. It obviously doesn't work, and while I was able to sign in (multiple times) with my current one, it wouldn't do anything. It IS the same account... when I went to the account page, I could even pull up a list of all the purchases made since 2007. And of course the apple/itunes tech "help" is crap, and I can't get assistance without PAYING the idiots 29$. Any input? As far as I can tell, those tracks were taken off my ipod, as I couldn't DO anything without another popup happening again and again and again, until I just exited out of it enough times.

That helped a lot, and authorized a few hundred that weren't authorized before. I still have 60, however, that are unable to be authorized.
It asks me to login to my AOL account, which is different from my Apple account. For some reason, that won't work either. Is there a way to link the two together?

I just bought a macbookpro. And trying to sync my iCloud music to my iTunes.  I've already "authorized" this computer to my iCloud account but It still won't play my music that I've previously purchased. I know this isn't a matter of having tI many devices on one account because I only have my phone and now this laptop on it.   What do I do?

  • How do I play music bought on one computer on another authorized PC

I am unable to figure out how to play some songs i bought on iTunes with my wife's computer on another computer that i have authorized.

Have you transferred the music to the other computer? If that sounds like a stupid question, apologies. However, it is a not uncommon misconception that the act of authorizing the computer makes music downloaded on a different computer instantly accessible. iTunes only allows you to download the content once. You have to move it to your other authorized computer yourself. Burn it to a disk, transfer it over a network, etc.

  • TS2446 If i create a new apple id account on my ipod, will i still have all my music, apps, books and other stuff on my ipod that i downloaded and bought with my old account or will i loose everything; will i be able to still do the updates to those apps?

If I create a new apple id account on my ipod, will I still have all my music, apps, books and other stuff on my ipod that I downloaded and bought with my old account or will I loose everything; will I be able to still do the updates to those apps?
    I really need help!

I don't think you understood what I wrote. You don't HAVE to pay for everything if you are happy with using the other account for updates, etc. But if you don't want to do that then you will have to buy new copies of everything for the new account. There's only one purchase item per account, but you can redownload an item in the account many times.
    The idea is this:
One computer, multiple devices, one Apple ID.
One user, multiple devices, one Apple ID.
The basic idea is that each user has an Apple ID under which he/she can manage multiple devices on a single computer.
Once you step outside of that model you create such problems as not being able to use or update apps purchase under one Apple ID when using a different Apple ID. Or not being able to easily sync one device on more than one computer.

  • How do I authorize my computer for music that was bought on an Itunes account that is no longer being used?

So my family used to share an itunes account and I bought music on that account. Now I have my own itunes account and my own ipod but I'm having trouble authorizing my computer to play the music that I bought on this old account. The email address for the account is dead because it was attached to mindspring. So basically how do I get this music without buying it all again?

There's a couple of ways to get through to the authorisation controls in the 11.0.x versions.
The control is still in the Store menu, but first (if you're using iTunes versions 11.0.x) you might need to bring up the menu bar to see the Store menu.
If you're using 11.0.x, click on the wee boxy icon up in the top-left corner of your iTunes to see the "Show Menu Bar" control, as per the following screenshot:
Then you'll find the control in the Store menu:
Alternatively, if you don't want to bring up the menu bar, it's still possible to get into the authorise controls via nested menus accessible from the wee boxy icon. Here's a screenshot of where to find them:

  • HT1338 I transfered IPad from PC to Mac...de-authorized and signed in...found ITunes has both my music and music from the previous ITunes account even though it was also de-authorized and signed out and a new sign in ITunes account....

My wife and I decided to switch PC's.  She had an Mac Pro and I had a PC.  Both of us have Itunes (Ipad, Iphones).   She moved her ITunes library to a new PC and de-authorized and signed out from her old Mac Pro.  She signed in and authorized her new PC.  I took her Mac Pro and followed the same process.  In the end we both found our ITunes library mix in with each others music and books.  Despite the fact we are both signed in to our own ITunes account.  Seems like the devices (IPad, etc.) stays linked to the original computer....these devicdes did not contain mix Itunes library (eve after they were synced).

    - You can only sync an iPod to one iTunes library/computer. You can however, manually manage music and videos among different libraries.
Go to iTunes>Help>iTunes Help>Sync your iPod....>Sync You Device>Set up Syncing>Sync your device manually and follow the instructions.
    - If y wnat to switch syncing libraries/computer see:
go to iTunes>Help>iTunes Help>Sync your iPod....>Sync You Device>Set up Syncing>Sync your device manually and follow the instructions.

If all the synced media like music is in the iTunes library of the second computer it is very easy.

  • HT1203 iTunes: How to share music between different accounts on a single computer - I tried to use the instructions to configure 2 different windows users sharing the same iTunes library.  I could not get this to work per the instructions.

I tried to configure 2 windows users accounts using a single library per the instructions in HT1203.  My iTunes library is on an external drive.  I cannot get this to work.  Any suggestions?

To give other users read-only access to your iTunes library, use the Sharing features of iTunes. Sharing works over the local network as well as on the same computer. See the built-in help for details.
If you want to give full read/write access to more than one user, see the support article linked below.
iTunes: How to share music between different accounts on a single computer
There is a way to share the library without moving it to a secondary volume. If you really need to do that, ask for instructions.

  • I have 3 iphones, an ipod touch and an Ipad on the same itunes account.  should I have a different account for each device?  If so how do I get all my purchases, like music on all the devices?

I have 3 iphones, an ipod touch and an Ipad on the same itunes account.  should I have a different account for each device?  If so how do I get all my purchases, like music on all the devices?

You can sync as many devices as you want to the same iTunes account, there is no limit. You can have the same content on each device or different content, the choice is yours. iTunes will keep everything straight, by device, including separate backups. I'd suggest giving each device a unique name, to make things easier.

  • Is it possible to transfer music/videos from one itunes account to a separate one?  I need to give my music and videos that I bought a grandchild to her for her ipad.

Is it possible to transfer music/videos from my itunes account to a grandchild (she will need her own account)  I bought her music and videos and let her play with my ipod touch.  Now she has an ipad.

No you cannot transfer purchases from one account to another account. Apple does not allow it and never has allowed it.
She can use you Apple ID on the device and switch between her ID and your ID, but that can cause problems at times and can become a bit of a pain.

  • Can I download music onto one device from 2 different accounts?

I have recently downloaded all my music from one account onto my ipod, but I also want my other music which is on a different account. The other account is for my iphone and want to keep the 2 seperate accounts. If I log out of the account I'm currently on, will it remove all of the music I have just downloaded?
I'm doing all of this on the devices, not using a computer.

No, but you may find that you need to wait 90 days or contact the iTunes Store staff before being able to do it.
