Hi xicarah,
You might be overlooking the obvious. It sounds like the power jack on your notebook is going bad. You'll need to contact MSI for warranty service. They may need you to send them both your notebook and your MSI AC adapter.

  • X230 battery charging weird issue+Win 8 never shut down

When I charge my battery, sometimes the laptop automatically sleeps muitiple times and my Fn+F4 stop working at the same time. I have a 9 cell battery that used to run between 8 to 10 hours, now it only last less than 6 hours. I just did a battery guage reset and it told me the battery can maintain 23% of original fully charge capacity and I only have this laptop a little over one year. My system suddenly can't shut down at all unless I removed the battery. It always restarts no matter what method I used. I have researched a few articles and changed a few setting in my laptop, None of them works.

Anyone? Could be a motherboard issue too in my opinion...????

  • First battery charge and current issues?

    Hi!
I just bought a new MacBook (2.0 GHz, 160 GB). I have two quick questions:
    1. I plugged in my AC adapter, turned on the notebook for about 5 minutes to make sure it works fine, etc, then shut it down to let the battery charge. Would I have lost any battery capacity by not fully charging the battery first? And do I need to let the battery run through a full cycle when I first use the computer to ensure full capacity?
    2. Are there any updates/best practices for the 2008 (December) MacBook batteries? I know there was an issue in 2007, but for the new line am I set to go? And is it still best practice to put shut the Mac down instead of putting it to sleep to save wear and tear on the hard-drive/battery?
sorry for all the questions: it has been 5 years since I bought my last notebook so I am a bit rusty/excited!

    Hello cass528,
I would be concerned too if my MacBook Air would not power on.  I recommend following the steps in this article when experiencing an issue like this:

Charge the phone for 15 minutes with the Apple charger. Then hold the HOME and SLEEP buttons at the same time until an Apple logo appears.

  • IPAD 3 battery charging issues

iPAD 3 battery charging issues. Read most of the discussions. My question is: If I take my iPAD to Apple Genius bar - what's the test they do to qualify for a replacement (do they place it on a charge and see the charge for Y% for X minutes or do they have other methods)

We're iPad users like you, so don't know.
The quickest way (and really the only way) to charge your iPad is with the included 10W USB Power Adapter. iPad will also charge, although more slowly, when attached to a computer with a high-power USB port (many recent Mac computers) or with an iPhone Power Adapter (5W). When attached to a computer via a standard USB port (most PCs or older Mac computers) iPad will charge very slowly (but iPad indicates not charging). Make sure your computer is on while charging iPad via USB. If iPad is connected to a computer that’s turned off or is in sleep or standby mode, the iPad battery will continue to drain.
Apple recommends that once a month you let the iPad fully discharge & then recharge to 100%.
How to Calibrate Your Mac, iPhone, or iPad Battery
    http://www.macblend.com/how-to-calibrate-your-mac-iphone-or-ipad-battery/
At this link http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/galaxy-tab-android-tablet,3014-11.html , tests show that the iPad 2 battery (25 watt-hours) will charge to 90% in 3 hours 1 minute. It will charge to 100% in 4 hours 2 minutes. The new iPad has a larger capacity battery (42 watt-hours), so using the 10W charger will obviously take longer. If you are using your iPad while charging, it will take even longer. It's best to turn your new iPad OFF and charge over night. • Late 2013 MBP w/Retina Battery Charging Issue since update to 10.10.2

I don't know if this is due to the update to OS X 10.10.2, or if it's just coincidence, but ever since updating, my battery has had issues charging.
When I plug into an outlet, the indicator in the menubar shows that it's plugged in, light on the power cord doesn't light up (not amber, not green, nothing) and the percentage estimate for power remaining doesn't increase at all, no matter how long I'm plugged in for.
I thought it maybe had to do with more things being plugged into the powerstrip, so I tried plugging into an directly into a wall outlet, but that was no use.
The only way to get the battery to start charging again is to restart AND zap the PRAM; clearly this isn't optimal...
Is any one experiencing this type of issue as well? Any hints or ideas as to how to fix it?
    Thank you!

  • BATTERY PROBLEMS: Laptop Only Works With Charger

**My laptop now only works if it is connected to the charger. The second the charger falls out, the laptop shuts off.
    ** I have a white macbook..
    **Any advice??**
    Thanks

I have a similar problem. Once i disconnect my macbook, with the battery charged, it stays one for awhile then it just shuts down. then i turn it back on and sometimes shuts down in middle of the start up screen =/. its like the random shuts are coming back or something...its really getting annoying.
recalibrating or resetting the PRAM or whatever isnt gonna do anything

  • Ipod 3rd Gen battery charge issue

I have various 3rd gen ipod's and logic boards. parts n pieces etc. here is my issue.... i recently purchased a new battery for 1 of these 3rd gen ipods to repair. when i first plugged everything in and connected usb cable ipod fired up no problems but the battery was not showing any charge. i even tested battery as it was charging with a multi meter. the voltage was slowly discharging. Now... i disconnected the battery and plugged it into a 2nd gen ipod mini and did the same thing. The battery showed a slow charge as tested with the meter. once the battery charged to full 3.7v i then put it back into the 3rd gen and powered it on only to the same effect with no battery charge indication and also a slow drain with the meter test. i've tried this on 3 or 4 different 3rd gen logic boards that i have and with the same results. I'm confused *** is goin on here. any replies please. thanks.

Just how its logic board is programmed I guess.
They make splitter cables which is a firewire and usb cable in 1, so if you have a wall charger you can charge and sync via USB at the same time.

  • [SOLVED] Brand new laptop, battery charges to 95% max (?)

I've seen this widely on a simple google search for "last full capacity",
the laptop has been used for just two days, but acpi reports:
    koko@TravelMate ~ $ acpi -biatc
Battery 0: Charging, 100%, until charged
Battery 0: design capacity 4400 mAh, last full capacity 4182 mAh = 95%
    Adapter 0: on-line
Cooling 0: x86_pkg_temp no state information available
Cooling 1: intel_powerclamp no state information available
    Cooling 2: Processor 0 of 10
    Cooling 3: Processor 0 of 10
    Cooling 4: Processor 0 of 10
    Cooling 5: Processor 0 of 10
it won't go higher than that.
Is that normal? maybe some sort of overcharge protection?
my previous netbook always charged to 100% or even a bit more than the design capacity...

emeres wrote:Depending on the technology used, one (or several) of the cells might be shorted or almost shorted. Another reason might be wrong measurement [circuit] from either battery or laptop side. And the simplest reason would be that the laptop/battery was produced some time ago, depending on type of technology used, certain batteries lose significant amount of capacity over time (even if unused). Since it is brand new, get in touch with your supplier and get at least the battery exchanged.
If you try to discharge it first, do fully discharge it using LEDs or some other low current load until voltage drops to approximately 10% of nominal voltage, and then recharge it not extending 110% of time it needed to be fully charged Repeating this cycle might and does help with certain types of batteries. If I were you, I would not bother however and go get a replacement from the shop, unless it is really troublesome.
As for overcharge protection, there are usually thermal (usually the most important one), shortcircuit and overcharge (meaning overvoltage protection) protections built into the battery (usually one ic) and/or laptop.
None of that is applicable for Lithium Polymer or Lithium Ion batteries.  They should never drop below 3 volts.  Discharging them below that point will destroy them and risk a fire.  Charging Lithium based batteries is also non trivial and requires tight monitoring of voltage and controls on current and time.  Do not mess with LiPoly or LiIon, they truly represent a serious safety hazard if they are mistreated.   I note that your suggestions and descriptions of shorted cells are applicable to some non Li technologies; notably Nickle based batteries (Nickle Cadmium, Nickle Metal Hydride, etc...)  In general, those are not found in modern laptops because of their toxicity and relatively low energy density as compared to LiPoly.

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
