Re: battery life of equium A200-VO1 laptop

I bought a new Equium VO1 and I want to know the average battery life for this laptop's battery.
I am just able to use it for 1.15 until it stops and I am not sure if this is the case with only my pc or this is what u get from toshiba????
Thanks
Owez...

There are three settings for your battery life extension 1) Balance 2) Power save 3) high performance the lower numbers give you a longer battery life with the same performance just double click on your battery icon bottom right of screen and it should tell you what the power setting are and you can change the settings from thereas well, power saver setting should extend your battery life by about 20mins but that is the limit of the equium A200.

  • Battery Life significantly! reduced just by loading Maverick

So when will Apple address this major issue?
Just do a search and see that a lot of people have experienced this. My battery life was cut by 2/3 the moment I loaded Maverick. I loaded it based on the promise of improved battery life. THIS IS A LAPTOP. BATTERY LIFE IS EVERYTHING!!!!
HAS ANYONE FOUND A REAL SOLUTION? Everything I read are well meaning people offering standard advice about battery life. Please do not add more standard book advice here (i.e. close programs you are not using, etc. duh). Please respond to what we are saying, "My battery life was cut by 2/3 the moment I loaded Maverick." How do I fix it?

I haven't had any problem with my battery so far. it's just probably that you been playing around with it too much. besides with the new apps store and the applications it might take more juice now.

  • How to disable TouchPad 'tap to click' on Equium A200-15L under Vista

Until mid-December I had the Synaptics Touchpad 'tap to click' disabled. Then it somehow became enabled , the right-click menu item to change it greyed out and the mouse properties, settings etc contain no reference to it. It has been suggested that Windows Updates somehow interfered. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling touchpad drivers both directly from Synaptics and from the Toshiba site, but it hasn't helped. Apart from using the recovery disk and reformatting what can I do?
Toshiba Equium A200 15L Laptop (PSAE2E). Windows Vista Home Premium.

    Hi Juliana
I have read also about the Vista updates which could affect the touchpad settings for me it sound very mysterious
I thought about the same touchpad driver reinstallation procedure.
But it looks like this doesnt help to get the click functions back.
I think the recovery CD would be the last resort.
    Good luck

  • Satellite Pro A200 - Is 26 minutes of battery life normal?

    Hi All,
My Satellite Pro A200 laptop is just over 1.5 years old (or young :P) and I have a huge problem with the battery - it only lasts for a total of _26 minutes_ under "high performace" mode in Vista - other power modes increase the time by only 5-7 minutes.
I have tweated the system setup to:
    - run as few programs at startup;
    - to use as little memory in relation to graphics (as in diabled vista themes, and "fancy" operations such as show contents of window whilst dragging).
    - remain on the lowest brightness level.
The programs that do run on startup are my anti virus (F-Secure), and ATI catalyst control.
I have also cleaned the registry of any conflicts and regularly virus scan.
I have used Ubuntu on this laptop as well and the battery life is not that much better, which brings me to the conclusion that the battery is nearing its end.
I was wondering if this battery life time (26 minutes max on high performace) is normal for a laptop after only 1.5 years?* (I don't remember how long it lasted when I first bought it).
Also, I have a laptop from other manufacturer of 2 years and the charge of its battery lasts a minimum of 4 hours (on Windows XP).
Both notebooks batteries are 6 cell.
Any suggestions of how to improve my battery life?
    Thanks in advance.

    >Satellite Pro A200 laptop is just over 1.5 years old and I have a huge problem with the battery - it only lasts for a total of 26 minutes under "high performace" mode in Vista
The battery working time depends on different factors:
If different hardware parts like CPU, GPU, HDD, ODD, display are running with highest performance then your battery working time will decrease dramatically
Additionally if you would lose an stronger battery (9 cell or 12 cell) then you should be abele run the notebook much longer using battery power.
Furthermore the battery loses the own performance systematically and after a long time of usage you will have to replace the battery.
However, if you want you could check the Vista Power Options in order to increase the battery working time:
    Here is a nice article:
How to handle the power management features of Windows Vista

But in worst case you will need a new, stronger battery

  • HOW TO MAXIMIZE YOUR LAPTOP'S BATTERY LIFE

    Hi all,
I had this bad experience of this wide problem in laptops, battery failure. It happens almost just after your warranty expires many will agree, funny & true..battery stops charging, shows less than 100% or 0% charge no matter how you try to charge it..etc. Also many complain that the battery shows only remaining charge time, and not the time remaining (read 9th tip below).
Though Mark, Andy, vkyr, nonny, jhem, bill, myles and other admin guys are here to help on this forum, I thought of writing this based on my own experience of these batteries till date..I had compiled a few tips and information for dummies about the use of battery here which might help you to extend battery life:
NOTE to moderatos--please check / modify / add / edit in the following if you find any wrong information.
NOTE to all -- These tips in no way will harm your system, except the 9th tip and also if you remove battery without shutting down laptop
All are welcome to add any new tips or corrections.
    1. Never discharge battery to 0%. Always, ALWAYS let battery discharge to a lower limit of up to about 5 to 10%.
    2. To run it or not on AC supply without battery If you use laptop most of the time at home or a place where there is a continuous (= uninterrupted) power supply, then simply remove battery from laptop and run laptop on AC power. If you are doubtful about current surge in AC supply, use a surge protector or a UPS (uninterrupted power supply) unit, which doesn't cost much. But be prepared, sometimes you may lose the data which is not saved, due to any accidental interruption. As [Bill] pointed out there might be a performance degradation due to power failure. This is not recommended if you are unsure of power supply.
    3. If you use AC power most of the time, then store battery with 30 to 50% (about 40% optimum) charged condition in a dry, away from any magnetism. At least once in a week or two weeks, run the laptop on only battery supply, let discharge it to about 10%, connect to AC supply, charge battery to 100%. Shut down, disconnect supply, remove battery from laptop and then use AC power supply as usual again.
    4. If you are running out of remaining battery time, then instead of shutting down PC, hibernate it ( you need to enable hibernation before through power settings in control panel). Shutting down takes more time than hibernation and without saving anything, you can resume your work after hibernation. After hibernating, even if you remove battery, it won't lose any data and will resume once you connect laptop to a power supply.
    5. Use power schemes (power management profiles), modify options available in power options under control panel in windows according to your usage & habits. Instead of using a blank screensaver or a screensaver which looks cool, turn OFF monitor, use lenovo power management options or windows power schemes to do this.[Tom&Wjli2]
    6. When running on batteries, to save power - reduce brightness of screen (using keys Fn + F10 to reduce, Fn + F11 to increase), mute volume & turn off any unnecessary devices that you are not going to use like (thanks to [Nicolas])bluetooth / modem / plug&play monitor / network adapters(wireless/ethernet/lan/1394) / PCMCIA adapter. Use 'control panel->system->hardware->device manager' to turn these devices on and off.
Changing color schemes to dark or black colors doesn't save power in case of LCDs. (http://savingenergy.wordpress.com/2006/11/21/saving-energy-one-monitor-at-a-time/)
    7. Whatever you try, a battery has a specific life time (no. of charging/discharging cycles), and it discharges slightly/continuously over a long period even when not in use. So if your battery is giving problems after about 3 years of service, then it is time for its replacement. Don't assume that if you don't use battery more often, it will last longer, it may usually, but battery failures are unpredictable.
    8. If your battery has started to show problems, it will most likely fail sooner or later. Consult experts if battery is under warranty, else buy a new one.
    9. Either use lenovo's default program or you might try a program like Notebook Hardware Control (http://www.pbus-167.com/ ) to monitor your power & hardware / temperature. This program shows remaining battery time once you modify advanced options for battery. Also it shows various temperatures for CPU/HDD and warns you if temperature reaches preset limit.
Caution: though this program allows, don't try to modify voltage settings under advanced options, it can harm to your system.
    Added:
    10. Never run a hot laptop or a hot battery. It damages the battery/laptop, so be sure to keep temperatures within normal range.(below 140 F or 60 deg C).
    11. There are few more good/advanced points added by Tom on Page 2.

    Dear iamdh,
Thanks for your answer and your update of the main post. I also read the various interesting articles you mentioned.
Now, I would like to submit to you these interesting questions :
Question 1 : Please do the following test : Open Paint, enlarge to full screen, set image size at least the size of your LCD (e.g. 1500 x 1200 dots) and use bucket tool to fill the whole image in pure black. Now, go to control panel, display, screensaver tab, and select Blank screensaver and test it with the View button. DO YOU SEE A DIFFERENCE between the black screen in Paint and the blank screen of screensaver ?
I don't see any difference (I use a vaio A517S laptop with high brightness LCD), so the conclusion might be that the blank screensaver uses up the same energy than a black color screen. A 2nd experiment leads to the same conclusion more conclusively : View again the "blank" screen (in screensaver tab, View button) and play with the Fn Keys to change brighness. You will notice that that it is impacted by brightness level which means the blankscreen is NOT a real "blank". WHY IS IT IMPORTANT ? Because, if choosing the Blank screensaver uses up the same energy as a black screen, AND because the black screen doesn't make any difference with a white screen on a LCD (remember the paper you found), then, why choose the Blank screensaver !!? Or, is it the fact that colors don't make any difference with LCD which is wrong !?? At that stage, I only ask. It is logic, it is one or the other, isn't it ? Any comments welcome.
Question 2 : You remember that energy transforms into various forms : light, temperature, strength, movement, etc... Now, let's come back to LCD monitor : IF a black full screen and a white full screen uses up the same energy (youy remember the paper http://savingenergy.wordpress.com/2006/11/21/saving-energy-one-monitor-at-a-time/), then, there is a interesting point : Because the white screen gives more light than the black (you can check that in the middle of the night using your laptop as a spotlight torche !), it means that the black uses up its energy into an other form.  ...What could it be, other than temperature ? LET'S PUT IT AGAIN DIFFERENTLY : The black screen and the white screen use up the same energy, but why it is used for brighter light with the white, it is used for higher temperature with the dark.  WHY IS IT IMPORTANT ? Because higher laptop temperatures damage batteries quicker, then it means that we should avoid dark colors and prefer light colors in our windows settings. .. any comment welcome
Really, the central point of discussion is the fact that electricity LCD consumption is not impacted by colors, even white or black. Has it been really double checked by many ? A story to follow..

In general theory, one now has the Edit button for their posts, until someone/anyone Replies to it. I've had Edit available for weeks, as opposed to the old forum's ~ 30 mins.
That, however, is in theory. I've posted, and immediately seen something that needed editing, only to find NO Replies, yet the Edit button is no longer available, only seconds later. Still, in that same thread, I'd have the Edit button from older posts, to which there had also been no Replies even after several days/weeks. Found one that had to be over a month old, and Edit was still there.
Do not know the why/how of this behavior. At first, I thought that maybe there WAS a Reply, that "ate" my Edit button, but had not Refreshed on my screen. Refresh still showed no Replies, just no Edit either. In those cases, I just Reply and mention the [Edit].
Also, it seems that the buttons get very scrambled at times, and Refresh does not always clear that up. I end up clicking where I "think" the right button should be and hope for the best. Seems that when the buttons do bunch up they can appear at random around the page, often three atop one another, and maybe one way the heck out in left-field.
While I'm on a role, it would be nice to be able to switch between Flattened and Threaded Views on the fly. Each has a use, and having to go to Options and then come back down to the thread is a very slow process. Jive is probably incapable of this, but I can dream.

  • Satellite A200 short battery life time - it discharges very quickly

Today I restored my Satellite A200 to factory settings.
This is about the 4th time I've done this in the last 2 years.
Now my battery life is screwed up.
100% charged with about 10 minutes remaining (image: http://img27.imageshack.us/img27/3548/100g.png)
85% charged with 8 minutes remaining (image: http://img14.imageshack.us/img14/723/46880270.png)
    What's going on?
I'm afraid if I restore to factory settings again to 'fix' the problem it will only make it worse and end up being 2 minutes remaining at fully charged.

    Hi!
    I agree with Jayjay.
If you have the same problems with battery of your sisters notebook its not a battery issue.
Im not sure but I think the only problem could be the mainboard but try to update the BIOS first.
On the Toshiba website you can find all updates for your notebook:
    http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com => Support & Downloads => Download Drivers
If it doesnt work you can search for an ASP on the Toshiba website. The technicians can check your notebook.

  • What the is the battery life of HP's G60-635DX laptop? No specs?

I just saw it on best buy, but there is no battery life listed, no specs on HP.com, no review on zd.net.....
Where are the specs for this model?
I have the G60-535dx, but I am a little disappointed with the battery life. I may want to upgrade, get a Sony, or get a 12 cell battery.

The batery life mainly depends on the 6 cell lithium or 9 cell and 12 cell and they mainly depends on the Notebook. Some of the Notebooks are compatible and some or not compatible,. The minimum life of the battery is 1 hour and maximum is 2 hours it is all based on your useage. If you want to increase the battery life I would request you to click on the below web link:

  • How long do batteries last after full charge on Equium A200?

    Hi
Just bought an Equium A200, and charged it for around eight hours, when I start up the battery life doesnt seem very long to me. Is says about 1hr 12 mins of life left. Doesnt seem like very long after an eight hour charge.
Is it normal to only get just over an hour of use time on laptop after fully charged? Never had one before. Appreciate any input.
    Thanks

    Hi guys
The battery life time depends on the notebook usage! So its not easy to say how long the notebook should run on battery power. But I think the 1hour 30min is a realistic period.
However, if you want to run the notebook for a longer period then you could buy a stronger battery which provides more power for a longer time
You should take a look at the mA value; the higher the better ;)
Furthermore please dont forget that the installed Vista OS needs more power as a early OS like XP.
The Vista needs more power because it wastes more computer resources.
I read that an same notebook would run 2 times longer on battery power with preinstalled W2K or XP.

  • Equium A200 - blank screen at startup

    Hi All,
I need some help. I have just turned on my laptop (it has not been used for a few weeks) and it wont budge from the loading screen, the loading bar is scrolling so it hasnt crashed. Its just very annoying. I have restarted it several times, tried taking the battery out, but still no difference. It has been 'loading' now for about 10 mins, then the loading stopped and just a blank screen. Also keys are beeping if I click them. The laptop is only 4 months old and rarely used... could someone please advice?
    Laptop details:
    Toshiba EQUIUM A200-1VO
    Thanks! :-)

Did you try to reinstall the system?
I mean you could try to boot from the Recovery CD which was delivered with the notebook.
In such case you could test if the hardware is ok
If you will be not able to boot from the recovery CD and the notebook will not boot up the system then you should ask the authorized service provider in your country for the help the warranty seems to be valid and therefore everything should be done for free
    Good luck

  • BIOS problem on Equium A200

    Hy ...
I have a problem with my Equium A200 laptop!
I tried to update my bios, I downloaded the update from the site and when I executed it, the computer stoped responding. I left it like that 30 min and ... still no response. I removed the battery and unplugged from power source and now it doesn't starts.
Please someone give me an advice how could I fix this problem.
I know I can reprogram the bios with an eeprom writer but I would like to know if there is something else I can do?
    thanks ... mircea

    Hi friend,
theres nothing you can do. I assume you have still some warranty left on your machine. Dont waste your time with re-programming an eeprom which is not really accessible with an normal eeprom writer (believe me, I know what I am talking about). Just click [HERE|http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com/cgi-bin/ToshibaCSG/download_whitepaper.jsp?service=EU&WHITEPAPER_ID=0 000000871], contact the nearest available service partner in your country and let them fix that problem so you wont have any further problems with your machine.

  • Re: Equium A200 screen is dim

    Hello,
I have a Toshiba Equium A200 Laptop with a dim screen. I have changed the inverter and the screen but the image is
    still dim.
I came to the conclusion that the lid close switch was faulty but have stripped the laptop down and cannot for the life of me find it.
Either I am going blind or this laptop doesnt have one - which I thought unusual.
    Can anyone help?
    Thanks in advance.

May I ask you why you came to this conclusion?
    Is your screen completely dark?
For me it makes no sense searching and replacing any lid close switches if the screen is dim
I think that its still an FL inverter issue. It could be also a display issue but Im not 100% sure
Possibly you have not installed the FL inverter correctly or maybe you used a wrong part
I think you should contact the notebook technician to find out whats going wrong with your notebook!
