Re: Bios Flashing & Intel Management Engine

I read quite a lot things but I'm still confused about this Intel ME 7-8. I couldn't decide myself what to do so better I ask it here.
MB= MSI P67 G45
CPU= i5 2500k
Current BIOS= V1.15B6 (it was beta or modded maybe? I took it from MSI support)
Current problems= Sometimes fail boot(BIOS setup opens instead of OS), sometimes onboard LAN do not power on(reboot or shutdown->restart system fixes this)
And I saw "Update onboard Realtek LAN driver" in latest BIOS's notes that makes me think it can be the solution. But I'm not sure about 5.x series BIOS is compatible with Sandy CPU's. Can I update to 5.4 without killing motherboard?
Or should I try latest 1.x BIOS?
Or should I stay like this since problems are minor?

So long as you follow the procedure this is relativly safe. (As safe as any bios flash)
That being said, you want to make sure that the computer is stable first, as this is what causes the most bricked boards.
When you prepare the flash drive with the forum flash tool, it includes memtest.
Make sure to run memtest through 2 or 3 cycles prior to proceeding and make sure to remove any and all overclocks.

I was updating my MB's BIOS from 1.7 to 1.8 via MSi's Live update. While updating, the systems froze for a bit then it auto restarted it self. When the comeputer started up, I noticed
I can't even go into the BIOS anymore. Thats when I knew, something has gone wrong. I followed the steps in this video : .
When i tried this i get an error: Error 201: fpt.exe cannot be run on this current platform. what am i doing wrong?
    Motherboard: z87 GD-65 gaming.

Do i restore the MAC before or after I flash the BIOS? and When to i flick the switch to go into the dead BIOS? I followed the video but it isn't clear how they didn't have the issue with the ERROR 201. I'm gonna try again and update if anything goes wrong.
UPDATE: so i wrote the MAC address down and went into started into DOS on my USB. I did the command "eeupdate /nic=1 /mac=xxxxxxxxxxxx. Then it say the device was not found. And i'm still getting the error 201.

  • MSI Z87-G45 flashed bios 19 now Intel Management Engine doesnt work

I used the forum tool to flash the latest bios 1,19 for my Z87-g45 and after booting back into windows and reinstalling intel ME I have a yellow exclamation mark over the Intel ME Interface in device manager.
It says the device cant start and STATUS_DEVICE_POWER_FAILURE
I tried installing the MS hotfix that comes with the latest Intel ME software on the MSI website but it doesnt install and says it isn't suitable for my computer when I run it.  I tried the 64bit first then the 32bit.

I fixed this by installing the older 1.18 using the built in mflash instead of the forum tool.
I don't know if it was the 1.19 version or the forum tool that stopped intel management engine working but selecting bios and intel me flash from the built in mflash worked.
I did worry when my computer shut down and restarted at 49% complete but upon starting again it showed a blank screen with flashing percentage for intel me in the middle starting around 50%.

  • T400: How to disable the Intel Management Engine Bios Extension?

The first thing my T400 (type 6474-BD2) does at boot up is to initialize the Intel Management Engine Bios Extension.
This takes about 2 minutes before the operating system boots.
    Do I really need this?
Is there a way to switch this off?
    Thanks,

If i'm right, it is Intel AMT - in the BIOS under "Config" - "Intel (R) AMT"

  • [Z77A-GD65] Intel Management Engine 8.1.2.1318

    Hi
Since I last flashed my BIOS (10.7) I can see that the ME is showing in the BIOS information as being 8.2.1.1318 but on a fresh install of W8 64bit I installed all the necessary drivers including the latest ME drivers (same version).
What I'm finding odd is that even though the download file says its ME_1.5M_Win8_8.1.2.1318_HF2 it shows up in 'Control Panel' > 'Programs' > 'Programs and Features' as 8.1.0.1281.  Also, in 'Device Manager' > 'System devices' >'Intel Management Engine Interface' as 8.1.0.1263.
Just wondered if anyone was experiencing the same and whether anyone knows why there are two variations of the 8.2.1.1318 driver download?
    e.g.
    MEI_1.5M_Win8_8.1.2.1318.exe
    MEI_5M_Win8_8.1.2.1318.exe
    http://downloadcenter.intel.com/SearchResult.aspx?lang=eng&keyword=%22intel+management+engine+drivers%22&DownloadType=Drivers
I have tried resetting the CMOS and also have reflashed the same BIOS and reinstalling ME drivers 8.1.2.1318 but still reports the same.

I've only been using the forum flashing tool which when I used it prior to the current 10.7 Bios, I flashed A71 beta which is what I believe introduced the latest ME (8.2.1.1318).  When I flashed the latest 10.7 I just downloaded the official Bios from the motherboard downloads page and used the forum flasher to create the USB stick.  Following the flash I switched off the PC when given the option to reboot, so that I could remove the power supply cable from the PSU and wait for the motherboard to drain its power and reset the CMOS using the reset button on the rear I/O of the motherboard.
The Bios does show in the info section where it shows the date and time etc that the ME version is 8.2.1.1318.
I wondered if perhaps it was a mistake with the Intel ME driver install if someone hadn't updated the reference value within that which relates to the version number but judging from your response your ME driver shows the correct version in the Programs and Features screen of Windows?
So if I understand what your saying if the Bios doesn't include the ME that the flashing process wipes out the ME that was there and requires a separate process to put the ME back on?

  • Why My Intel Management Engine Interface not starting?

I've been trying to flash my BIOS so that it can be compatible with Windows 7. The probelm that I am currently having is that SATA drives can not initialization the Intel Management Engine Interface. I tried to install Intel Management Engine Interface driver in windows via an app or via floppy or via a supplied ISO, but it didnt do much else. How can I fix the find an updated driver for this device and make it work properly?
Regards to all and thanks for your help.

1, the corresponding motherboard BIOS file, you can back up from the previous BIOSaccess can also be found to the official website of the motherboard BIOS file types
2, download and install the appropriate BIOS update tool brands.
3 SLIC2.1 file download OEM makers, OEM key, OEM certificate (such as Hewlett-Packard).
4, the SLIC 2.1 and SLP files downloaded brushes into the BIOS.
    You can try it

  • Intel Management Engine drivers v8 and v9 : compatibility ?

Intel Management Engine drivers v8 and v9 : Are they compatible with chipset P67 and sandy bridge processor  (2600K ...).
    Thank you.

Some MSI utilities may stop working if ME9 'does' install. My thought is why do ME9 at all if a risk is there? It could be like flashing a wrong BIOS on a board. Nothing but potential problems. If you want to experiment, have fun, and you know the consequences if it doesn't work.

  • Z68A-GD65 G3 & Intel Management Engine Driver

I've recently uninstalled the ClickbiosII and Control Center, I also uninstalled the "Intel Management Engine Driver" I thought this was only required for Control Center to communicate with the board to make changes to cpu clock/multiplier in the OS, which I do in bios anyway, but since I no longer use Control Center I should no longer need the "Intel Management Engine Driver" or?
Everything still works fine and I can still monitor voltages and temperatures.
But just incase I decided to look for an updated version of the driver, where it seems that the driver on the MSI site is a few revisions behind the ones on Intels site.
    On MSI:
Intel Management Engine Driver, Version: 7.0.0.1144, 2012-03-13
    Intel Site:
Intel Management Engine Driver for Intel 6 Series Chipset-Based Desktop Boards , Version: 7.1.40.1161, 04/16/2012
    Chipsets:
    Intel® Desktop Board DZ68BC
    Intel® Desktop Board DZ68DB
    Intel® Desktop Board DZ68ZV
But upon closer examination I also see drivers for 6 & 7 series boards:
    There is also:
Intel® ME: Management Engine Driver for Intel 6 & 7 Series Chipset-Based Desktop Boards, Version: 8.0.10.1464, Date: 04/19/2012
Which no longer has support for the Z68, however the previous version 8.x.x.xxxx series does.
Intel® ME: Management Engine Driver for Intel 6 & 7 Series Chipset-Based Desktop Boards
    , Version: 8.0.4.1441, Date: 03/23/2012
Which also still supports the following chipsets:
    Intel® Desktop Board DZ68BC
    Intel® Desktop Board DZ68DB
    Intel® Desktop Board DZ68ZV
Now this driver is "older" than the 7.1.40.1161 driver but has a higher version #, so should I go after version # or the date, which ones would you use, or are already using?

Ok, I reinstalled the drivers again, seems sandybridge needs it to function properly, at least what people are saying on various forums.
