Good Day.

Please help me in solving my wifi connection problem.
Thanks
Don

Hey Divinegrace007 ,
Welcome to the BlackBerry® Support Community Forums.
Try adding the MAC address of the BlackBerry® smartphone to the accepted MAC address list for the Wi-Fi network.
Have a look at this article on how to find the MAC address of a Wi-Fi enabled BlackBerry smartphone: http://btsc.webapps.blackberry.com/btsc/KB13233
I hope this helps.
Thanks.

  • Ethernet and WIFI Question

This maybe a redundant question, I want to back up the stuff in my Imac using TC.  I do not want to use this Imac wireless nor do I want my backups done wireless but can I still use the wifi system on TC for Ipad ,Nook, etc. without having to configure my Imac everytime to use a wifi devise?

Yes. Just connect the iMac to your Time Capsule with an Ethernet cable, then go into System Preferences->Network and either set Ethernet to a higher priority than AirPort, or turn off AirPort completely.
Your wireless devices will continue to connect to the internet, and even to your iMac, through the Time Capsule wirelessly, while your iMac will enjoy the faster speeds and improved reliability of the wired ethernet connection. Your devices which connect to your iMac "wirelessly" will continue to do so; they will not know the difference between your iMac on the Time Capsule's wireless network and your iMac on the Time Capsule's wired network – it's all the same as far as connectivity is concerned.

  • New MacBook, Free Public Wifi Question

    Hello All:
My aunt, who is in her seventies, bravely purchased a MacBook today. Leopard is loaded up. She has to wait until mid November for fiber optic to be installed in her building in NYC (no dsl available), so I looked at what Airport might find, and it seemed to find one unprotected network and then displayed, below a thin gray line (like the one that separates the list of networks from options like "Join Other Networks) the words "Free Public WiFi." Having failed to connect to what I thought was an unprotected network, I set my sights on this Free Public Wifi. It would not connect and asked for a pw. Is it true that the password for anything called "free public wifi" are those very words ? Any advice ? Does anyone know if there is a genuine free public wifi signal with a range around Penn South in NYC, on W 25th, between 8th and 9th ? Or know anything else she could try to ride the unprotected (aka the neighbor's) network ? I got an "an error occured" message from airport for that one. Thanks in advance for any responses to these many questions !

I travel a lot and find my Macbook will connect to some open networks fine and will not connect to others. The problem is you do not know how the other end has their router set up.
It may be an unprotected network, but the user may have limited the number of connections able to connect to the network, or restricted the number of available IP addresses for that connection.
The most important thing is be very careful of any network that says "free" or "public". I have read many articles about people who will set up a false networks in an attempt to get your personal info. You most likely will be able to connect to the network, but will not have internet access. Be careful.

  • First Blackberry--- 4 questions to start!

I liked the storm a lot but I wasn't keen on the typing.  Typing on the curve is tight, though, because the keys are so small and close.  It was a close call.  I've been playing with my pda all day.....loving it so far and assume I made the right choice between the storm and this one.
These are my questions at this time (n.b.  I traveled a lot today, so I'll be heading to the rack and I'll check back tomorrow am so thanks in advance for any help).
#1:  I tried to register for the word application on it but when I went to enter my email address, I couldn't get the space bar to give me an @ sign or a dot for dot.com.  I had entered an email address somewhere else and it worked fine so I don't know what I did wrong.
#2:  I entered one email address and decided I didn't want it  because it's an address that gets more junk mail.
    # 3:  I'm a teacher and almost an principal.  Can anyone suggest great applications for this field?
#4:  My daughter has the i-phone and downloaded a great shopping list app.  Is that available anywhere for BB?
Thanks for any help you can provide!

    #1:
for all the type in field you won't be getting that feature. In some application this is available in some this is not. However, this is available for composing email, sms and mms.
    #2:
You can check dataviz's website whether it allows you to change the mail address from your profile list or not.
    # 3: & #4:
For BlackBerry application of your desired type you can have google search. or you can check handango website.

  • Japanese font/input & Wifi Question

    Hi,
My wife wants an iPod for her birthday and I am considering the iPod Touch. Mainly because it gives her access to the Internet and email when I have the ibook at work, and it gives her a portable Mp3 Player. She is Japanese and most of the emails she sends and receives are in Japanese. I want to know if an iPod touch bought in Australia will have this capability. The sales rep at the local supplier presumed it would, but really didn't know. Also, will the menus be in Japanese where the applications have Japanese versions? Do Japanese websites render with the right font etc.
Also, I am a little confused about Internet access with an iPod touch. My current understanding is that you need to have a wireless network set up at home, say with Airport Express, as I do, to get a connection. It's just that the sales pitch is, "You can download music while walking down the street if you are in a 'WiFi zone'", and I didn't really get what that means. But now I believe that Wifi zones are usually password protected, and it is actually difficult to get any kind of Internet connection, in my experience, from just anywhere, as most are locked, or have short range. But if you have something at home like an Airport Express, then you will be right, when at home at least. Is this understanding I have correct?
Your answer to either or both of these questions is sincerely appreciated.
    Many thanks.

    Hi,
You set the language the Touch uses in 'settings'.
Outside your home WiFi availability is dependent on how many and where 'Hotspots'(zones) are located. It's likely that coverage is better in cities and in public places like train stations, airports etc. and some large stores. Starbucks coffee shops also provide hotspots. Some will be password protected, others open access. Some you'll pay for others will be free. In any event it's unlikely you'll be able to walk down a street with continuous coverage as each hotspot has a very limited range. You'll need to do a little local research!
At home you'll have continuous/free wifi access through your network/router.
    Mike.

  • New Member/Wifi Question

Just purchased my first Blackberry an 8530 Curve. I am very pleased with it. One problem is attempting to connect to my home wifi network. It is a Wireless G Linksys router with WPA Security. My BB will not connect although it finds the network immediately. The settings on the dropdown menu do not include WPA security or a place to enter my password. Can any one help? Thanks.

    http://www.sno.phy.queensu.ca/~phil/exiftool/TagNames/Nikon.html#AFInfo
Yes, it is in the EXIF information. I am working with the Nikon D3.
Any suggestions on how to access the exif data and then convert the focus area into xy coordinates?

  • WiFi Question, 3g VS my 1st Gen

I have a first generation Iphone and I also have the 3G version and my question is that if I have both phones together in any room in my house I can only pick up the WiFi signal on my 3G phone. The first gen phone rarely even sees the WiFi signal and if it does it can only stay connected for a short time. The 3G sees the signal every time and I can keep the signal connected until I manualy turn off the WiFi. Is there anything I can do or is this normal? Thanks

try resetting network settings: settings-->general-->reset-->reset network settings. (you'll have to re-enter the password for your router).
i woudl then proceed tot he standard troubleshooting steps:
    1. power on/off
    2. reboot (or reset; holding home and the sleep/wake buttons until the apple logo, ignoring the "slide to turn off".)
    3. restore (most likely as a new phone)
if after ALL that, nothing. i would make an appt with the genius bar, cuz its safe to say that its a hardware issue.

  • Syncing and wifi question

Just wondering if you have your ipod registered on two computers can you add stuff from one computer without losing or overwriting what was on there from the other computer. More specifically I used my desktop for all my music and it kinda died on me and I still have my laptop with additional music but I don't want to lose what was already on the ipod. Hope that makes sense. Also whenever I connect to the wifi and update apps it continually tells me that account info has changed even tho I made sure it was all correct. It's getting pretty annoying. Any help is very appreciated.

It's possible. Both computers have to be authorized with iTunes under the same user account and you should be fine.
I've done it with my wife's Macbook and my Powerbook and it worked OK. Nothing got overwritten - stuff sort off got added on top of each other. A bit messy, though.
As far as the second question, sorry. I don't know.

  • Blackberry specific question

    Hi,
I posted below query to blackberry guys, but unfortunately i didn't get any response.
I want to send alerts to Blackberry devices using MDS service, and display
the data without any user interaction. Once it is displayed user can
    interact with the display object.
As per the info available in the site and feed back from blackberry guys , i have
    to write two components
    1. Background listening thread that runs on start-up that will await for
    incoming data
2.GUI component that the user can run and interact with and this will also
interact with the background listening thread to display new data that
    arrives.
I need some clarifications on the above components.
Assumed the i developed both the components and deployed in device.
    1. When a new data arrives, does the GUI component can be displayed
(invoked) automatically? or the Gui component has to be in run mode (user
    already invoked the component) ?
    2. Can i make the gui component as MIDP1.0 component? ie can i use midlet,
    for the alerts display?
    3. Why i want to use MIDP is for portability. In future, if the blackberry
connect architecture come into play, at least my gui (Midlet) component can
    be portable to other devices.
    4. The basic question is can my background thread, invoke another
application (MIDP) with out any user interaction?
ie the thread receives data from MDS and invokes MIDP application and gives
the data (or stores in RMS) to that application to display the data with out
any user interaction. Once it is displayed user can close the application.
I really appreciate your freed back.
    Thanks & Regards
    phani

Here are the ans for my quires.
    1.     When a new data arrives, does the GUI component can be displayed
(invoked) automatically? or the Gui component has to be in run mode (user
    already invoked the component) ?
You can register a app as system module and will up when the device starts.
    2. Can i make the gui component as MIDP1.0 component? ie can i use midlet,
    for the alerts display?
You can not use both MIDP and Blackberry specific apis. Ie you can use MIDP/CLDC apis or Blackberry/CLDC apis
    3. Why i want to use MIDP is for portability. In future, if the blackberry
connect architecture come into play, at least my gui (Midlet) component can
    be portable to other devices.
IF the device supports Blackberry apis then the app is portable.
    4. The basic question is can my background thread, invoke another
application (MIDP) with out any user interaction?
Feedback from RIM guys is Technically possible. But didnt tried it out.

  • T|X wifi questions

I was thinking about purchasing a T|X from ebay seller itsnothere to replace my T2 since that is showing signs of wear with this screen wine i'm getting when I use it. So i have a few questions about the Wifi:
    1. First of all, does it support WPA2 encryption for wireless networks? Reason is becasue my school uses that and the guys i work with said if the Palm doesn't have that capability, I can't use the internet. If not, could I get it on there?
    2. It has 802.11b, would it be able to handle the demands of internet surfing and email of today?
    Thanks
    Post relates to: Tungsten T2

One of my TXes goes with me wherever I go, even though I also have a Pre.  I just can't shake the Palm OS habit, and some of the valuable apps and data I have on it.
    1.  You might need the Enterprise security update, downloadable here
    2.  Internet "surfing" depends on the particular web site.  It works fine on some sites, not so great on others.  Email...I find that VersaMail is still a great email app even after all these years.  Rock solid, relatively fast downloads, but to open downloads you have to have an application installed that can handle the file type.  There's also an alternative third-party email app called Snapper Email which I think is still available and offers a free trial period.

  • A few WIFI questions..

My iPad2 is on the way (currently layed over on iPad island, China) but I had a few questions that I was pondering :
    1) If I enable tethering on my iPhone 3GS, does that work pretty well for a WIFI only iPad2 -- even when travelling down the road? Are you happier that way or pay more $$ for separate service contract (+ higher iPad cost)
    2) For WIFI only models, can I use the "Find my iPhone/iPad" app to locate it via WIFI or GPS? Or is this only good for use with 3G based iPads?
    Thx!

    Hi,
    For number 2.
You don't need a 3G model to use the Find my iPhone/iPad app which is designed for both iOS devices. Read here. http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/find-my-iphone/id376101648?mt=8

  • Kin Onem/Twom Email on wifi question

    Hi Guys!
I've been searching for clarification on email and hope someone can help me! I'm leaning toward upgrading to the Onem or Twom next week for the fact that the recently re-released Kin's "smartphone-like" features as well as pic/vid quality will be nice to have without the Data charge. I'm a freelance graphic designer and jewelry designer (so I own my own business and am trying to keep communication costs down this year and I work from home so having constant email is not a must for me right now).
OK having given you guys a couple quick reasons why I like these phones... I've seen many reviews on youtube and read many reviews online... but can't find an answer to this specific question:
1- I have email through godaddy (who hosts my site). The email is EXCHANGE which I can set up through my iPod touch (just FYI). I've heard conflicting comments that a person is unable to set the email up on the Kins without the data package... Is this true? Or can I set it up and then it only updates when I have wifi?
I am still back and forth on this phone. I do have an i touch but really... how many devices can a person carry? mp3, camera (i do take a fair amount of vid and pics) and oh yeah...phone.
    Also.. One more question:
2-Easy to transfer pics/vid to computer?
Thank you guys in advance for your help. I'm a "little" older than the target market for this phone... but hey...why not?! Seems fun!

You can definitely set up e-mail without the data package. GoDaddy email does work with the Kin devices (I am a freelancer too and have an email account through my GoDaddy site). If you're not blocking 3G data, set it to check e-mail manually. What if I WILLl be blocking 3G DATA? I mean I will have to if I don't want to pay the data charges right?I will tell you though that the Kin Wi-Fi is "buggy" for some users, depending on your wireless network, and your e-mail might not always work. But if you're working from home and near computers all day, it's probably not a big deal. (not too worried about it... but I have realized that when I ask clients to respond via text- they will respond to email anyway... thus just trying to work more efficiently... get what the client needs and ultimately paid faster!
I am still back and forth on this phone. I do have an i touch but really... how many devices can a person carry? mp3, camera (i do take a fair amount of vid and pics) and oh yeah...phone. Whether or not you'll be happy with this phone depends on which device you're coming from, smartphone or regular  phone. env3 (reg).. it's been a great phone... but a bit like a brick! Feature phones!
Thank you SydneyK.. Wishing you luck on your biz as well!

  • Blackberry wifi query

    Hi
I am trying to help out an end user with an issue he having. This particular user has had his SIM card disabled and only uses the Outlook function on the Blackberry over WiFi. He said he either connects to his home connection or to the hot spot on his Samsung phone. Once he has connected to wifi, his mailbox and calendar update.
Since last Friday, his mailbox has not been updated. I've been told by colleagues that it is not possible to access your e-mail in this fashion but this user has been using this method for a number of months.
Can someone please confirm if it is actually possible to do this or what could be causing the sync to fail.
    Any help is greatly appreciated

Hi and Welcome to the Community!
With BlackBerry, the native Messages app can only work with an email account if there is an adequate data plan from a carrier. Natively, email on a BB is an enhanced service, requiring the use of certain servers and such hosted by the carriers and BlackBerry -- without a proper data account, access to those servers is denied, and thereby email cannot function via the Messages app.
Often, the carriers are rather slow to cancel things...my guess in this situation is that this was active on that SIM at some time in the past, and the carrier has only recently "caught up" with cancelling those that are using services for which they are not paying.
    Good luck!

  • New BlackBerry User Questions, with Corporate BlackBerry

I just got a Blackberry Curve 9330 from my work, and I am trying to get used to it. I have never used a blackberry before, I use a Moto Droid as a personal phone, so it is pretty different.
Any links to good resources for tips on using this phone for business uses would be good as well, I have some more specific Q's I will post here.
One of my main questions is if there is any other navigation besides the touchpad. It is pretty weird to use, I am playing around with the sensitivity, but it just seems unresponsive a lot of the time, and not easy to use for the general email and phone naviagtion
Is there any way (Maybe App?) to bind the volume keys on the right side to be used to scroll through email, and other things? They seem perfectly postioned to be used to scroll. Also is there anyway to rebind the left voice command key, to use as a enter key? Again it seems perfectly positioned to be used like this. (It seems like a huge waste of a big side button if it can only be used for the voice navigation.)
Or maybe you can bind just keys on the keyboard to function as arrow keys?
I also have some questions about the email. It setup to connect to a blackberry server and Exchange for outlook etc as in a standard company (It's from a big company), and it gets some policies etc im sure. I don't know exactly the policies but I'm sure theres some things that may be locked down for me.
I have all my Outlook email folders stored on my Exchange Maibox (On the desktop side), and I can see them when I go to "View Folder" on the blackberry, however only the inbox and sent items seem to have the messages in them. On my desktop outlook, I have filters that move the email to these folders. Maybe those filters only run when a desktop outlook client (2003 right now) interacts wtih exchange? Still right now I have messages in these folders, and my blackberry can see the folders, and I can into them, but they say no messages. So It seems like I should be able to view the messages in them.
I'm also wondering if there is a refresh button, to refresh the exchange connection? Especially to refresh like the read status of email, so after I read 20 email on my desktop outlook, then I can refresh on my blackberry, and those 20 will appear as read messages
I'm also wondering how I can make shortcuts on the desktop? Like can you make a direct call ,or direct email shortcut to someone in your contacts? And is it possible to make a shorcut to directly open a folder in your exchange mailbox?(Assumeing theres a way to get the messages to show up in them)

only new items will show up, show this to you BESAdmin maybe?
KB04713 - Enable message prepopulation for all users on a BlackBerry Enterprise Server
KB11434 - No messages are displayed in subfolders following enterprise activation
I'm also wondering if there is a refresh button, to refresh the exchange connection? Especially to refresh like the read status of email, so after I read 20 email on my desktop outlook, then I can refresh on my blackberry, and those 20 will appear as read messages
Reconcile is a slow process, but there is a reconcile now option if it is enabled on the BES server.
more info for you and you admin
This will explain a lot about reconcile and hard deletes
KB04863 - Permanent deletion of email messages in Microsoft Outlook does not reconcile to the BlackB...
link in above KB in case you missed it
KB04853 - How to enable hard deletes on the BlackBerry Enterprise Server
I have also changed the messages state size to 1000 and it cured 99% of our issues.
The performance hit and RAM increase is almost nil on the BES box.
    On Device also double check:
Make sure that Wireless Reconcile is set to On. Sometimes toggling that to off, saving it, then turning it back on.
Messages Options - Email reconciliation -
    Delete on Mailbox and handheld,
    wireless reconcile = Yes
    On conflicts = Mailbox wins.
If still not working and you moved a user mailbox.
KB20770 Email reconciliation does not work after moving a mailbox
    Is the user over quota?
