Re: Bluetooth missing | HP ENVY 15-j026tx | Windows 8.1

Poof! No Bluetooth! Here yesterday, gone today!
I'm having the same problem with an Envy 17 T J 100 laptop ...
Bluetooth hardware just disappeared after (I think?) a certain Windows update. Have gone on-line with support chat, they instructed to un-install then re-install networking and bluetooth drivers, tried them ALL and didn't get any benefit. The BIOS does not recognize that the Bluetooth radio-transmitter EXISTS in this computer. It's as though a gnome came over to my house in the middle of the night, unscrewed the bottom of the thing, crawled around on the inside, removed the bluetooth-transmitting hardware, and replaced it with a wad of styrofoam.
I KNOW there's Bluetooth inside the thing -- the specs say so; the order sheet confirms that I paid for it; I have used it before. I don't know when it went out, but when I tried to use it yesterday, it wasn't there. My local area had a problem with internet because of a rainstorm, so I thought I would tether my cell-phone and its data (via cellular tower) to my laptop for a bit, see how that goes, but when I got the phone and the laptop near each other I noticed, WHAT?!! NO BLUETOOTH ANY MORE? BUT WHY?
And I'm pretty sure it is a Windows update, and HP incompatibilities, that are the culprit. Nothing yet from the HP programmers or from Windows. It has something to do with power-management, maybe. But because I can't get ANY of the software to ADMIT that the hardware EXISTS, there's no way to force-on the power to the hardware.
BLUETOOTH IS GONE. FIX PLEASE. thanks.

  • T61 & Bluetooth missing AVRCP Profile

I'm running Windows 7 on a T61 (type 6459) & ThinkPad Bluetooth with Enhanced Data Rate.  Driver version 6.2.0.9000.
Problem is the driver seems to be missing AVRCP (Audio/Video Remote Control Profile).  Basically I cannot control playback functionality of bluetooth devices from my computer.  If I take the same devices and put them on older ThinkPad R50 also running Windows 7, the profile is there.
I can only infer a few things:
    1)  This is a 64-bit edition of Windows 7, perhaps the 64-bit bluetooth driver/stack is missing features the 32-bit version has
    2)  This is a different ThinkPad Bluetooth chip than what is in the R50, perhaps the driver features are not bound correctly to the newer hardware
    3)  Another Dell computer with a Rocketfish Bluetooth 2.1+EDR USB adapter (also a broadcom Chip, like the thinkpad) has AVCRP in the 64-bit Windows 7 driver.
    Any thoughts?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

I fixed the problem by installing the Bluetooth driver from the T400 series, v6.2.0.9600.
What doesn't make any sense to me is why isn't this driver released for the R/T series?  According to the release notes, v6.2.0.9600 is the first version that supports Windows 7:
    Version 6.2.0.9600
(New) Added support for Windows 7 32-bit, 64-bit.
    Version 6.2.0.7900
[Important] Ended support for the following models.
    ThinkPad R60, R60e, R61, R61e, R61i
    ThinkPad T60, T60p, T61, T61p
    ThinkPad X60, X60s, X60 Tablet, X61, X61s, X61 Tablet
    ThinkPad Z60m, Z60t, Z61e, Z61m, Z61p, Z61t
    ThinkPad Reserve Edition
    Note:
For those models, use the old version, 6.1.0.5100, of this package
Lenovo supports Windows 7 on most of those models.  Why does Lenovo kill "enhanced" bluetooth support for those models under Windows 7?  It makes no sense to fully support older ThinkPads with offical WIn7 drivers for every other component except Bluetooth (and the 4-in-1 Memory Card reader, which is another gripe).  It's also not optimal for Lenovo to recommend Win7 users to download a driver package that wasn't created with Win7 in mind; especially when the appropriate drivers exist.

  • Deskjet 6988 printer to wireless network (Envy laptop w/ Windows 8.1)

I've had my HP Deskjet 6988 printer for years and always had it connected to my desktop via USB 2.0 cable. I purchased a HP Envy laptop with Windows 8.1 and want to connect the printer via my home network/Belkin router, as the USB 2.0 cable that came with the printer doesn't seem to work in the Envy USB ports for direct printing . The software disk didn't work in the laptop, so I downloaded the software and utility (print and scan) software for 8.1 from the HP website.
I ran the downloads, the setup wizard started, said "The wizard will connect to the internet and help you install the best available software for your printer." I clicked next and a window opens "Discovering device" and then another "Retrieving install device" then...nothing.  The wizard window closes. My setup manual is useless. It tells me to use the wizard on the software disk that doesn't work on my laptop (and is outdated and for the wrong OS anyhow, because it was for my desktop, which ran on VIsta.)
I did somehow manage to get the printer installed on the laptop - I can see it under the available printers.  And if I have an ethernet cord connected directly from the printer to my router, it will print. But if I unplug the ethernet cord, it will not print. I can't keep the ethernet cord plugged in for printing, because the router is in my living room, behind the TV and my office is upstairs. I would rather not keep my printer on the living room floor by our TV, so I really need it to work wirelessly!
My problem is - how do I get the printer added to my home network (Belkin  router). The wireless router is all set up and working - I'm actually using it right now to access the internet and post this message.
So, my printer is installed on my laptop. The driver is the most recent, intalled today from HP.com and I don't have a software disk to use for a setup wizard.
What are the next steps to connect my printer to the network, so I can print wirelessly? Hopefully, I've given enough information. I've read all of the help sections on HP.com customer service and none of them seem to tell me what to do.
    Thank you!

Through a lot of trial and error, I actually figured it out  myself. I did a lot of jumping around, so hopefully I remember everything I did:
    1) Install the printer driver using the disk or download.
    2) Connect the printer to the router using an ethernet cable, which looks like a big phone cord (no need to connect the printer to your laptop.)
    3) Bring up the laptop's system "search" on your laptop and in the search type "Network" then click on "Network" link to open it.
    4) You should see the printer icon listed under your computers and other devices already found on the network.
    5) Double click/tap on the printer icon and it will open the printer's "web page" in your browser.
    6) Click/tap the "Networking" tab near the top of the scren.
    7) In the left sidebar, under "Connections," click "Wireless" to open it.
    8) Start and use the wizard to enter your router information. (Make sure to give the printer a distinct name here, so you can distinguish it from any other printers listed on your laptop. For example,  I named mine "Deskjet 6988 Network")
    9) Unplug the ethernet cord from the printer.
    10) If your wireless printer doesn't show up in the list of printers when you go to print something, you have to add it:
    11) Open the laptop system search again and type "Devices and printers" and click/tap the link.
    12)   Click the "Add a Printer" link near the top. The computer will search for printers and the new networked printer should appear in the list (Hint: it wil have an IP address listed under "Address" column rather than a file.)
    13) Add the networked printer and run the test print to make sure it works. Make it your default printer and can delete any of the other 6988 printers listed if you want to.
    14) You should now see your networked printer in the list of printers when you go to print something.
Hope that helps someone else some day!

  • My horizontal scroll bar went missing when I maximise the window. How do I fix them?

My horizontal scroll bar went missing when I maximise the window. How do I fix them? I tried everything; such as auto hide the task bar. Even with this, I still can't see the horizontal scroll bar. I even tried the following and I still can't see the horizontal scroll bar.
    1) In a new tab, type or paste about:config in the address bar and press Enter. Click the button promising to be careful.
    (2) In the search box above the list, type or paste dom and pause while the list is filtered
    (3) Double-click the dom.disable_window_open_feature.scrollbars preference to switch it from false to true. By choosing true, you disable sites from deciding whether there can be scrollbars on a window, and Firefox uses its standard behavior for the page.
If you want to always get other bars, here are the corresponding settings:
    Menu Bar: dom.disable_window_open_feature.menubar
    Navigation Toolbar: dom.disable_window_open_feature.toolbar
    Bookmarks Toolbar: dom.disable_window_open_feature.personalbar
    Please help.

  • New Envy dv7 with Windows 8 is unable to open DVDs

I have a brand new Envy dv7 with Windows 8. Put my printer DVD in the drive to install the software. While a drive is shown in Explorer, the title is not displayed and trying to open the DVD results in an error message saying the disc might be corrupt. I torks just fine in my Compaq Windows 7 machine. The "eject" menu function does not eject the CD, but  does cause my external hard drive's activity light to go on. Interestingly, when I use the taskbar hardware eject, it shows both the DVD and the external hard drive on the same device.

Tried a solution mentioned for Windows 7 but using the Win 8 version (CDDVDWinDiag), which found the drive, fixed some class problems, and then said it could not read the media. Nevertheless, I was able to read the media fine after that. However, after using right click eject, the drive again disappeared from the system. Running the utility again, re-found the drive, but as soon as one ejects the DVD, the drive disappears again.

  • Does bluetooth on an ipad work with windows 7

I just got an iPad and I'm having trouble with pairing it with my Windows 7 64bit computer. The two will recognize each other but windows says it can't find the bluetooth driver for the device. I've searched online and in apple support but can't find a driver. I've gone to the windows support site and can't get a straight answer. The last post that I read said that apple has made it so the bluetooth won't work with a windows pc. Does anybody know if this is true and if it is not, does anybody know how I can get the bluetooth driver for windows? Thanks for your help.

Thet bluetooth isn't meant to be for data transfer. It's mostly meant to keyboards and headphones.
