Nice to know that  AAISP are still persistent with BT OR  I can only imagine  what could of easily happened  if you have gone down the reporting a PTSN fault yourself,
Typical scenario being  the remote tests carried out by your Telephony provider  wouldn't show the fault,(a large number of HR dis faults go undetected) Engineer visits your home  most don't carry  the tools to test a line in depth  such as a PTQ tester be that JDSU or hawk ect
So if the noise was not present during the engineers visit it could easily have resulted in a £130 charge  and the intermittent fault would be no where nearer to being fixed
We are supposed to be getting FTTC  by end of June12  there's one isp i wouldn't  touch, BT retail  infinity , Just them having a useless outsourced overseas call center is enough for me to choose one of the others ,

    Today, two other users reported issues with the back-forward history list dropping down if they hovered the mouse pointer over the back or forward button -- without clicking -- and then moved the pointer downwards. One user was on a touchpad, I don't know about the other user. Are you experiencing anything like that?

  • BT Vision down again Do NOT follow reboot advice!

    BT vision is down again, the same issue as the beg​inning of  12th June: cannot play on demand and catch up content, (this time only) error messages VPE 108.
    I also have the same complaint that I had on the t​hread with the same issue on 12th June - which is ​that the online advice contradicts  the advice (WH​EN YOU CAN FIND IT) that the 08001690199 gives.
    I'll explain what I mean, I followed the online ad​vice after ringing 0800 111 4567 which tells you t​o follow the online help, after checking service s​tatus here: http://www.bt.com/help/home/ -Which said NO issues with the BT Vision service.
    Followed all the online advice; reboot hub, hard r​eset vision box, rescan for channels, reset regist​ration.
    After resetting; all the on demand programmes now ​have charges on them, so I called the 08001114567 ​number to be told that vision is closed but that I​ did the right thing by rebooting etc.
    I rang back a while later and asked if there was a​n issue with vision - told that I had got through ​to Broadband and that vision was closed (I had pre​ssed all the buttons for vision), so I asked for t​he number for the service status line and she told​ me the number I had rung to speak to her! (08001114567) I said that there was a line with re​corded message that gave the status of all service​s and she again said the 111 4567 number.
    I eventually found the number (I remembered that I​ had put it in the June 12th thread [have put it i​n phone now lol).
    When I rang the service status number 08001690199 ​which said: there was an issue and  DO NOT reboot as you could lose the service.
    I have checked the service status page and it stil​l says nothing IF you view on a mobile / tablet an​d enter your phone number.
    If you press view all service updates - on a mobil​e/tablet it says nothing (just the place to put yo​ur number, then no issues).
    Check on a PC then you will then see that there IS​ an issue.
    If following the online advice can cause an issue ​(and it's not a one off as this is the second time​ in a month) then there should be a message on the​ help page to check the service status first.
    The service status number should be easier to find​ (all the helpline staff should know it at least).​ This would of not been as much of an issue if the​re had been a message on the main helpline number ​as there has been on previous occasions (this mess​age should be BEFORE the message telling you to fo​llow the online help.
    The service status page should show the same no ma​tter what you view on ( my tablet shows as mobile ​in portrait mode and PC in landscape).
     Reason for edit: I could not play on demand (constant loading, error messages) I had no issues accessing said content.

  • Nervous about shutting down again tonight! help?

    the last 2 times I've shut down tonight, upon restart all my settings have been erased. (keychains messed up, desktop picture gone, etc...) Any thoughts on what i may try before shutting down again???

    Even with a dead PRAM battery, this shouldn't be happening if the computer stayed connected to an active electrical outlet.
    It sounds like you are shutting off the computer and then removing all power to it. If you are cutting power at a power center, power strip, or battery backup unit, your new PRAM battery is not gong to last very long. When the computer if off but still getting current to the power supply, the PS allows a trickle of current to bypass the switch to maintain contents of PRAM where your settings are stored. With the battery dead and the power cut off, you get the symptoms you have described.
    I learned this the hard way, by cutting all power to a Mac at work by shutting down the battery backup unit after shutting down the Mac. The battery was dead in a few months, and I was fighting preference setting problems like you are now.
    Leave it plugged in. "Going green" by pulling the power every night is not an appropriate action for this computer model.
    EDIT: As you are in the US, you'll find the PRAM batteries cheapest when you order online. This place:

    is where I get mine. Radio Shack carries the same battery as part number 23-026 but it is easily 3 to 4 times as much there.

    I have Snow leopard on my computer, and I tried to do a hard restart as an article suggested, but it did not work. I also tried cleaning out the PRAM.
    The only things I did last night:
    -cleaned the history of Firefox out, including cookies
    -let it unplugged all night
    -plugged it back in the morning, it took a long time to figure itself out, but eventually the time was correct and I got on the internet for a bit
    -shutdown the computer since I was going out and thought it would help the computer charge
    -came back, tried to turn it on, and found that it would not go past the grey screen the apple on it and the spinning wheel even though I left it for 20 minutes or more
    -tried turning it off and on to no avail

    Before doing a reinstall, which may not be needed at this point,
    Try using Disk Utility to do a Disk Repair, as shown in this link, while booted up on your install disk.
    You could have some directory corruption. Let us know what errors Disk Repair reports and if DU was able to repair them. This could just be a start in repairs and you may need a better utility to finish the job.
    Then Repair Permissions.
    No need to report any Permissions errors........we all get them.

    Ive got a problem on my Macbook Pro, Installed Leopard, and now in most programs whenever I try to bring up the open window or save as etc windows they appear for a second and then closes down again like I have made a selection!
    Its really annoying me!

    One lame thing worked though. I would hit the command short cut and keep hitting it for a few times. This forces the command window to stay open, and it actually helps getting ridding of the problem temporarily.
    I also had a similar but nastier problem in Acrobat. I tried to save a Photoshop PDF file in Acrobat, the Save As window opened and closed right away. Then all the command menus went gray; non of the commands was available including Quit. The only option I had was to force quit Acrobat. However, I didn't have this problem when handling native Acrobat files. The good news is that my lame solution worked.

  • Since I updated Firefox I have to constantly re log-in to my Yahoo account such as email. Every time I leave the page I have to log-in to get back into it. I also run OPERA and I do not have that problem with them. I stay logged in. Any suggestions?

    I have windows Vista and have the updated version of Firefox. I also can run OPERA and LUNASCAPE with no problems. When running Firefox I have to constant re log-in to my Yahoo account every time I leave the page. For example: I log in to check my email on Yahoo and then leave my email page. Then when I return to recheck my email I have to log in all over again. I can't stay logged in. If I run my OPERA browser I stay logged in for days without having to sign in all over again.

    Many site issues can be caused by corrupt cookies or cache. In order to try to fix these problems, the first step is to clear both cookies and the cache.

    You can move your iTunes library.. Apple have explicit instructions to do it. If the library is moved to the TC and accessed over wireless, the efficiency of the whole system will drop dramatically..
    A file you download goes.. Modem---TC--Laptop--Back to TC--Store on disk. Double looping the wireless slows it dramatically..
    As far as using TC for your iTunes.. you CAN.. but SHOULD YOU?

    This is asked several times a day.. obviously people are struggling with their latest SSD being too small.
    The TC is not suitable for network file server.. but many people having no choice press it into service as such.
    It cannot be partitioned. It was and is and ever shall be a backup device for Time Machine.
    Major issues.
    1. No backup.. no way Time Machine can backup a network drive. No place to backup to.. So all your files will be at risk. And you will need to buy a third party like CCC to do backup.
    2. The TC cannot be partitioned and mixing TM backups and data is not great.
    3. The drive is slow to spin up and quick to spin down.. there is no controls.
    4. iPhoto in particular can easily corrupt its entire library with wireless networking causing a disconnection to one photo. Even if you do this;;; do not move your photo library... you have been warned!!
    5. iTunes will constantly lose connection to the library. The disk is too slow to respond.. itunes on the computer will constantly spit out errors. Even in the midst of streaming the TC can spin down the disk due to caching.
    6. Do not use any live files on the TC no matter what else you do.. if you edit files in whatever program the file must be on the local hard disk.
    7. The only suitable location for most libraries is a computer. You can plug in an external hard disk.

  • Every time i turn on my macbook pro, it gives me the message: "Your computer was shut down last time because of a problem" even though it only happened once last week

    My computer crashed lasts week. And now, every time I turn on my computer, at the login screen it says that my computer shut down last time because of a problem, and gives me the option to restore my windows, i've tried both options, it still comes back.
    My computer is a macbook pro mid 2010 running OS X 10.9.1

    First boot into Safe Mode, Mac OS X: Starting up in Safe Mode, and then reboot again normally.  The safe mode boot will take longer as it runs repair procedures during the boot.
    If that fixes the problem I'd also update the system to the latest 10.9.4 via the  OS X Mavericks 10.9.4 Update

  • IMac shut down unexpectedly. I tried to restart and it did for a bit, then immediately shut down again.  I've had it for 3 years and this is the first problem. I can't turn it on to give specs.  Any suggestions?

    I purchased an iMac approx 3 years ago.  We keep it on almost all the time, however the other night we noticed it was off.  We did not shut it off as we were downstairs watching a movie.  I unplugged the cord, waited 10 to 15 seconds, plugged it back in, wait for a few more seconds and turned it on.  It started up and was almost done booting.  Then it shut down again and I have only gotten it to attempt to turn on.  (the fan kicks in for about 2 seconds and then nothing) Any suggestions?

    Try that process of resetting the SMC two or three more times, sometimes it takes more than once. if that doesnt work I could only suggest making an appointment and hauling it in for service.

    Restore your bootable backup/clone  or Time Machine backup of Snow Leopard, launch Disk Utility from the install disc, repair the boot volume, and reinstall Lion.

    Connect your computer straight to your modem and check if you face the same problem...If you don't face any problems through the modem, hard reset your router...
    Press and hold the reset button for 30 seconds...Release the reset button...Unplug the power cable from your router, wait for 30 seconds and re-connect the power cable...Now re-configure your router...If you still face the same problem get your router replaced...
