Re: Broadband slow (unusable) at night since Home ...

I find I cannot watch BT Vision On Demand services eg iPlayer etc after around 10 to 10:30pm as it stalls. It is very frustrating!

I moved your post to start a new thread as the previous one was over 2 years old
it may be caused by your conenction not running as well as it could so in order for the forum members to help please can you post the adsl stats from your router may need to 'show detail' to get all stats (if hub enter 192.168.1.254 in your browser and navigate to adsl or use a-z, if netgear enter 192.168.0.1) and run  btspeedtester  (MAC users may have problems). when first test completes then run diagnostic test and post the results .
are you connected directly via a filter to the NTE5 master or test socket or to somewhere else? Is the master the only phone socket in your home?
Have you tried the quiet line test? - dial 17070 option 2 - should hear nothing - best done with a corded phone. if cordless phone you may hear a 'dull hum' which is normal
Someone may then be able to offer help/assistance/suggestions to your problem

  • Slow iPhone 4S speeds on Home Fusion Broadband

I've been using Home Fusion for about 4 weeks now and it's been great.  However, I'm been experiencing a slow experience connected to the Home Fusion service over it's WIFI to my iPhone 4S.  I typically receive about a 200 MS ping and 1-2 Mbps download and a 4 Mbps upload rate when checked on the Speedtest app.  The down/up speeds don't bother me as much as the lengthy ping times.  Is anyone seeing this issue?
The lengthy pings are causing slower downloads and a slower overall experience on the iPhone.
My other devices such as computers, iPad and Xbox connect fine with blazing speeds.  I've also performed that test over a couple weeks with the same result.
    Thanks.

I usually get this if I have at least 3 bars.
Is that on 3G or wifi? I don't have an iPhone yet but hoping to get the 4S soon, but I understand they can get either wifi or 3G & that wifi would likely be faster. I assume it would have a little icon telling which it is, sort of like I get either 3G or sometimes (including in the local Verizon store) 1X.  Of course I guess if its wifi, it would depend on how fast that connection was. My home cable is usually just above 1mbps so I presume if I get wifi at home with the iPhone 4S it wouldn't be any faster & maybe somewhat slower than that.

Had problems with my broadband going down at weekend, since it came back on unable to join wifi BT say it is because my wifi settings are missing on my iPad can anyone tell me where to find seething details IP address etc

    Some things to try first:
    1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
    2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
    3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
    4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
    5.  Renew IP Address: (especially if you are drooping internet connection)
        •    Launch Settings app
        •    Tap on Wi-Fi
        •    Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
        •    In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

Note - When troubleshooting wifi connection problems, don't hold your iPad by hand. There have been a few reports that holding the iPad by hand, seems to attenuate the wifi signal.
Some Wi-Fi losses may stem from a problematic interaction between Wi-Fi and cellular data connections. Numerous users have found that turning off Cellular Data in Settings gets their Wi-Fi working again.
You may have many apps open which can possibly cause the slowdown and possibly the loss of wifi. In iOS 4-6 double tap your Home button & at the bottom of the screen you will see the icons of all open apps. Close those you are not using by pressing on an icon until all icons wiggle - then tap the minus sign. For iOS 7 users, there’s an easy way to see which apps are open in order to close them. By double-tapping the home button on your iPhone or iPad, the new multitasking feature in iOS 7 shows full page previews of all your open apps. Simply scroll horizontally to see all your apps, and close the apps with a simple flick towards the top of the screen.

  • Slow Broadband Slow Call centre Slow Everything......

Where to begin..Like many people I use my mobile more than my landline for making calls.
So, when my landline was making a terrible noise it was not the end of the world. Then Broadband went a bit Pete Tong on me acting slow..No probs just explain to BT the prob and all should be fine  (Simples)..
Day 1.. Engineer repairs Telephone line...Even thou I mentioned Broadband slow not put right.
Day 2  Ring BT to explain nice phone line no Broadband (almost 1 hour on the phone to call centre)
Done the usual speed test - 13mgb coming to the house then 0.03 from hub to computer..
Everything points to a prob from line to hub.
So a new filter was dispatched
4 Days later filter turns up
Guess what?  Still the same..Ring Call centre 1 hour later explained prob...Dispatch a new hub...3 days later Hub turns up
Guess what? Same old..Ring call centre 1 hour later explain prob...By now begging for an engineer to come out.I am told if the problem lies my end then there will be a charge..(by now could not care about charge get someone out!!!)
What I should make clear  this is over 5 weeks now. I am paying for a service I cant get..
By now 5/10/13 I decided to tackle the prob head on and get my own Engineer from check a trade.  (i paid for this service)..A former BT man arrived at my house and did the relevant tests and discovered that my IP PROFILE is set to 0.14mbps.. He was dumb founded to here of my plight...Well, I have passed on this information to BT and lets hope it gets sorted....Needless to say Im not happy with BT

    Hi stu61,
Sorry to hear that your having issues with your BT Retail services.
You will either be on the ADSLMax (upto 8mbps) service or if your exchange has been BTw 21cn upgraded you maybe on the ADSL2/2+ (upto 12/20mbps) service depending on your line quality and length.
However these upto speeds may not be the speeds you will get as ADSL broadband connections are very dependent on the distance from your property to the exchange and the quality of your line. The further away you are from your local exchange the slower your broadband speed will be.
To enable the community to help you please see the advice below:
Please see Keith's help guide here: Helping forum members to help you, it will go through some checks that are needed for us to help you.
A summary of the checks are:
1a) Is your router/Homehub connected by a BT NTE5 master socket, Adsl Filtered Master Socket or Extension Socket?   Please bear in mind that extension cables and extension sockets can reduce the broadband's performance. If you have an Old LJU master socket then please say.
1b) Have you tried the Test Socket? - if you have one.
    2) Can you please run a BT speed test (including IP Profile) http://speedtest.btwholesale.com (not beta version)[Best done with a wired, Ethernet, connection] After Quick Test is done you need to click "Further Diagnostics" to get IP Profile.
    3) is there any noise on your line. dial 17070 option2 ,called quite line test, from landline phone. should be silent but slight hum normal on cordless phone.
    4) please post adsl line statistics
    ADSL Line Statistic Help:
If you have a BT Home Hub like the one below...
     Then:
     1) Go to http://192.168.1.254 or http://bthomehub.home
     2) click Settings
     3) Click Advanced Settings
     4) Click Broadband
     5) Click Connection or sometimes called ADSL (see picture Below)
The direct Address is http://bthomehub.home/index.cgi?active_page=9116 (for bthomehub3.A firmware ending in 1.3)
or http://bthomehub.home/index.cgi?active_page=9118 (for bthomehub3.A firmware ending in 94.1.11)
You will need to copy and past all the adsl line statistics ( Including HEC, CRC and FEC errors). You may need to click " More Details"
If you have a HomeHub 4 then the majority of the ADSL Stats shown in the previous Hubs will not be there.

  • Processing time has slowed to a crawl since install of ViewSonic monitor.

All processing functions have slowed to a crawl since I installed a ViewSonic monitor VX2270Smh-LED.  The system recognized the monitor immediately.  It is connected through the Mini-DVI port on the MacBook Pro and through an adapter to the DVI port on the monitor.  I have the displays configured as one very wide monitor so I can move windows back and forth.  It doesn't seem to matter what I am working on, browser, spreadsheet, email, every command results in the spinning wheel.
Have looked for a driver for the ViewSonic but they don't make them.  Is there something available with Apple that will help this?

To isolate whether the monitor is really the culprit I would run a benchmark without the monitor connected and with.
You should rely on the numbers from the benchmark to tell whether there is a difference.  Perception can be a very dicey thing.
    I have used xbench:

Hmm... It looks like they are gone forever now then. I can't think of any other way of getting them back apart from restoring from an iTunes or iCloud backup. Somebody else might be able to help but I think they're gone forever. I don't know why they were wiped from your iPod but it could be something to do with security. In the future I would recommend syncing to iTunes or iCloud to prevent it from happening again. • Internet slows down at night to less than 1Mbs, poor customer service

I'm having the same problem. I had originally 1-3 Mbps (Oct 2008 - Jan 2012). It used to work fine but then the speed seems to be slowing down as years passed by, I was getting less than 1Mbps most of the time so I upgraded to 3-7Mbps with 2 years holding period (Jan 2012 to Jan 2014). From Jan 2012 to Nov. 2012 it was fine, then starting Dec. 2012, the internet started to slow down at night. I'm getting 6-7Mbps during daytime and until around 9pm, then the internet slows down to less than 1Mbps after 9pm. Then starting mid January 2013, the situation seems to get worst, the internet slows down starting around 7pm, and then on the 3rd wk of January, the internet started to slow down as early as 5pm.
I've contacted the customer service twice. First, the person who attended remotely accessed my computer and after more than 15 minutes trying to find fault at my computer, wiring, set-up or wireless router (instead of the verizon network), he realized he doesn't have any excuses and instead instructed me to hard reset the modem. I told him that if I hard reset the modem, he will be disconnected to my computer. He said, "that's fine, I will call you you to give instruction on how to set-up the modem". After I have hard reset the modem, he never called up and I was left all by myself figuring out how to set-up the modem. I've contacted the customer service the 2nd time, a different person attended and exactly the same thing happened, the guy instructed me to hard reset the modem but never called up after he got disconnected. I guess this is their expertise, how to rudely leave the communication once they figure out that they can't resolve the problem.
Once the 2 years holding period is over, I will change to other internet provider and will never switch back to verizon again. I will never ever recommend verizon to my friends and will share them my experience with verizon.

This is one of the reasons we are leaving Verizon as well.  We previously left Brighthouse because the initial deal sounded great, until the rebates expired.  When the price jacked up, I told them they had to better because Brighthouse was much less expensive for the same package but their service didn't slow down at 7pm.  The customer service agent said I really couldn't compare the two because Verizon has a superior quality of service.  I asked, "Then why does my internet slow down around 7pm, because the Brighthouse service didn't do that".  All the customer service agent has to say was, "That's not true."  Nice try.  He essentially called me a liar, about something I've seen firsthand, and I have experienced that same 7pm slowdown with a similar service we had in NC.  Sorry Verizon, we left Brighthouse because we thought we were saving a few bucks, and getting a higher speed on our internet.  Not true on both accounts and we're going back.    PS To the person who made this initial blog post, I noticed there were 484 views but no "likes"  - it's because that button won't let you click it, at least that's what I experienced on my end.  I'm certain there are a lot more people out there who deal with this same issue and are quite frustrated.

  • 3.1 turned my iPhone slow - unusable and lacking in all tasks

Can i downgrade... or should i wait for an update from Apple? Others having same problem?
The iPhone is not unlocked or jailbroken.

I have the same problem. I upgraded to the 3.1 OS from 3.0.1. My iPhone 3G is not unlocked or jailbroken. After the update, the phone's functionality slowed severely. Pressing the home button, side scrolling to other home screens, placing calls, and internet connectivity all were severely slowed down.
I have iTunes 9.0 installed on a Mac Mini with Snow Leopard 10.6.1
I then, restored the phone using the iPhone restore option and then restored using last saved backup. No improvement.
I then decided to restore to full factory settings again and setup the phone as new. Some improvement noted, but the as soon as I started installing apps again the slow response in all the aspects above, returned.
I have one of the (recently removed) free memory apps, MemoryInfo, and it seems the phone on its idle state is using above 95% of the total memory. I did also notice severe battery usage, after just 2hrs of idling the phone the battery drained to 65%.
Apple Engineers - If you do read this, please issue a patch for OS 3.1 or allow us to downgrade to OS 3.0.1 until this problem is resolved.
    Thank you.

  • Home internet slow/ unusable since downloading OS X maverick

I uploaded OS X maverick last night to my MacBook Air 2011. Since then when the Mac is connected the internet slows down for everyone in the house- down to 0-2 kbps- then speeds up as soon as I turn it on again- up to 12-14 kbps. Turning Bluetooth on and off makes no difference.
I have a time machine and a telus router- it has worked ok until last night. Everything has been rebooted but no luck. Any thoughts?
FYI- I am a real simpleton when it comes to computers!!!

Try these in order testing your system after each to see if it's back to normal:
    1. a. Resetting your Mac's PRAM and NVRAM
        b. Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)
    2. Restart the computer in Safe Mode, then restart again, normally. If this doesn't help, then:
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the
COMMAND and R keys until the Utilities menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and
after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears.
Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    3. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu. Select Restart from the Apple menu.
Reinstall the 10.9.2 update: OS X Mavericks 10.9.2 Update (Combo).
    4. Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion, Mavericks: Reboot from the Recovery HD. Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion, Mavericks from the Utilities menu, and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.
Reinstall the 10.9.2 update: OS X Mavericks 10.9.2 Update (Combo).

  • LG G3 Vigor - slow/unusable since Lollipop upgrade

I've had the Vigor since February - it shipped with KitKat installed, and it ran fine. Shortly after I got it, it received an OTA upgrade to Android 5, and since that time the phone is so slow as to be unusable. Some apps (inlcuding basic fucntionality like phone call and text message) can take 20-30 seconds or more to come up. There have been times where I missed a phone call because the device did not respond to my attempt to answer it in time. Sometimes apps do come up faster, but overall performance is substantially worse than it was before the upgrade - and even worse than the Galaxy S3 it replaced.
I am a fairly savvy android user - I have tried multiple things to impreove performance. I have reimaged the phone multiple times, cleared cache, tried running the phone with just the "factory" apps - nothing helps. I'm now trying multiple things to try and keep memory usage down and boost performance, but again - nothing I've tried has helped. I have the phone for work, but it is officially reaching the point where I can't rely on it to work if I need it. Is it possible the phone itself is defective?

    Hello there
I’m sorry you are experiencing phone issues after updating to Lollipop; I would be happy to assist you.
You stated that you have tried many troubleshooting steps. You said you cleared cache, but did you clear all cached data?
To wipe all app cache, follow these steps:
From the home screen, tap Apps.
    Tap Settings.
    Select the General tab.
    Tap Storage.
Wait for menu options to finish calculating.
Tap Cached data, and then tap OK.
Have you downloaded the LG Support Tool? The Support Tool allows you to create a backup and also download firmware updates. To download the free software click here.

  • Broadband slower since outage

    Hi.
Since switching to BT in March my broadband has been a steady 13-14Mbps. However, over the weekend of 3rd August I had 2 outages, one Saturday late afternoon and one Sunday noon. My broadband has recovered but the speed seems to now be slower at around 10-11Mbps. Upstream is the same as it always was at around 1Mbps
BT support did not give a reason for the outage and say the line is fine. I have run a quiet line test and it seems fine to me.

  • Slow YouTube when connected to home wireless broadband DSL2+

I'm experiencing really slow YouTube downloads. I'm connected to my home wireless broadband which is really fast (17000/880, however downloading YouTube content on the phone takes ages. Any suggestions ?

The answer is set your Wifi to B only and all the speed problems with the iPhone 3G will be fixed! There seems to be a problem with the 802.11G on the iPhone in my experience.

  • Broadband slow speed, ongoing since end of april

Hi,i have been suffering slow speeds and dropping out since end of april,i have had 9 engineers out,but still no wiser.
I use a desk top and laptop and have problems on both, running at 8 meg, cant open web pages,or do internet shopping, engineer blames the websites.
i am a 2 min walk from the exchange,
if i take my laptop to my sisters 4 miles away it works fine, and shes only on 2 meg.
I had an it consultant round who did a ping test from laptop to router, and router to exchange, laptop to router was fine, but the router to exchange keeps timing out 19 times in 5 mins, where as my sisters did it once in 40 mins.
i have opened a little square bt box from my socket box to the wiring outside, wiring looks in poor condition with wires not actually connected to anything, engineers say that wouldnt affect it,

    Hi Efcpaul

  • IPhone 5S GPRS/E slow / unusable

    Hi,
A month ago I upgraded from an iPhone 4 to the iPhone 5S. Ever since I had the 5S I have noticed the GPRS / E data is extremely slow and most of the time it is unusable as pages time out or you end up giving up.
I am on Tesco mobile in the UK (O2).
I decided a few days ago to compare my 5S with the iPhone 4 which my wife now has and is also on the same type of contact with Tesco mobile.
If I turn wifi off and turn off 3G/4G (Settings / Enable 3G/4G toggle) on both phones then I can see they both switch to GPRS mode. I load the same webpage on both phones together and although slow as you would expect on GPRS the iPhone 4 loads the page first while the iPhone 5S just sits there blank with the blue bar at the top initially moving then paused.
So I contacted Apple support to ask why. After many calls reseting the phone and updating to iOS7.1, checking setting with Tesco mobile etc I still dont have a fix.
Today I went into the Southampton Apple store, a genius lady acknowledged the issue once I showed her and straight away gave me a replacement saying it looked like hardware fault. However on testing the replacement it still had the issue. A more senior genius guy then looked at it and also saw the issue. He was suggesting that it must be my sim card so I said to them to show me an iPhone 5S with another sim card working like the iPhone4. They searched for another sim and then tried a new pay as you go O2 sim which they could not get working as it didn't seem to be activated. In the end I gave up as had already been in the store over an hour and thought as I got a replacement phone it was worth checking at home again.
Back home though as expected I get exactly the same issue with GPRS/E not being usable.
Does anyone else have this issue or know a fix? I also contacted a relative who also owns an iPhone 5S on vodafone and he also thought the GPRS / E is not usable compared to the iPhone 4.
I guess my next step will be to purchase a working pay as you go sim on O2 to see if it has the same issue.
Is this a general iPhone 5S hardware or software issue, I know must people probably are using 3G or 4G so maybe do not notice.
Be great to hear other 5S users experience using GPRS/E.
    Thanks
    Nigel

Hi Nigel. I was having the same issue after recently getting a new 5s operating 7.1.2  however I'm not sure it's linked to GPRS/Edge. I'm on tesco mobile so probably a similar network to you in England. The phone for the past few weeks has been performing a lot slower than my previous 5 which was performing a lot quicker and snappier. I have been searching for a solution in the forums and nothing. I think I have found a solution though and I don't know how this works but it does. I simply changed the time format to 24 hours and vola it seemed to have fixed the problem. The 5s operates as it was designed to do now. It is so much snappier and responsive now with no lagging when loading apps or switching between apps and no more slow loading blue bar while loading webpages. Im very happy with the speed of the phone now so just flagging it up as a potential solution. Hope it works for you too. Let us know if it makes a difference. I'm hoping apple bring out a fix in this because I much prefer 12 hour time format.

  • Broadband unavailable at most times since last wee...

I don't know why this has suddenly happened.
Every evening at the moment I am going home and finding BT Broadband in complete outage. And it is getting worse. On Wednesday evening I ‘phoned a call centre, waited 14 minutes to get through to them, spent half an hour talking to someone complaining of a sore throat and advising me to turn things on and off, use Internet Explorer instead of Chrome etc. before bothering to tell me that there was an outage in the TN2 area.
Since then most of the time I am not getting any access. Just when i am beginning to think it is something wrong with my system, I switch on and am fine - this tends to be the case late at night. Can't get any sense out of your helpline number.
