Re: Broadband Suspended

My broadband has been suspended incorrectly. My browser is being diverted to a BT page saying I have not paid a bill, but the bill is paid by direct debit, in "My BT", it clearly states date of the bill and that I do not need to do anything and the oustanding amount will be taken out of my account. As far as I am concerned, I am paying for a service that BT are not able to provide. I have been in touch for the third day running and no one is able to resolve this issue. It seems the suspension is applied automatically but no one is is capable of un-suspending the account. The billing department is saying it's not a billing issue and they cannot un-suspend as they do not have the option to while the technical department is telling me there is no issue with the line. I have sent a complaint, what else can I do ? I work on-call and I am about to loose a weeks work because I have no broadband.

  • Broadband suspended - Why??

Browsing the web this morning I got a popup from BT saying effectively that I hadn't paid my bill and my account was suspended. I was then stuck with this page and coundn't navigate away from it.
My latest bill states it should be paid by the 2nd April.
I paid the bill over the phone and my broadband service has just unfrozen.
I wonder if one of the mods might care to explain why this happened? Broadband is important to me for paying bills, especially at the end of the month. To just disconnect it without warning like that could have caused me all sorts of problems.
I rang the Indian 'help' desk and of course they were completely useless.

  • Broadband service suspended

Firstly, before anyone says it, if I paid my bill on time this wouldn't have happened. I am aware that it is my responsibility to pay the bill but in the real world things don't always work out as expected.
Yesterday, 29/11/2012 when I tried to get onto the Internet I was greeted with a 'splash screen' that told me my service had been suspended because of late payment. I had received no warning either by phone, email or letter. Subsequent to getting the service back today I found an email in my inbox dated 29/11/2012. Well, there's no point in sending it on the same day my service has been suspended as I cannot access it?
When I began to try and resolve the situation BT's telephone system does not seem to want to talk to customers and maybe look for a compromise. They only want the whole bill paid off otherwise they don't seem to be interested. They offer solutions like setting up DD's. Well, the reason I can't pay the bill is because I am on a low income so a DD is not going to help. The web page that BT displays suggests that the quickest way to resolve is to pay online, umm, you suspended the service, how can I do that?
As I said in the opening paragraph, I know it's my responsibility to pay the bill and this is down to me. But the manner in which the service was cutoff and the subsequent difficulties in trying to resolve do not seem like good customer service to me.
If anyone from BT or forum members would like to offer thoughts/comments and suggestions then I would be very interested to hear them. Thanks.
    Gary

  • Assistance in configuring suspend

I recently installed Arch, and I disliked the suspend-on-lid-close feature. I tried fiddling with settings in GNOME, but to no avail. Then I tried fiddling with a login.d to get it to work, and after a few restarts and much fiddling, it worked. However, now, it doesn't suspend at all, and I would like it to when I close the lid on battery. At the bottom of this post is a list of the software I have installed, in the event that there are conflicts that break it. If you need any other info to help me, please ask.

  • Why are certain sites suspended? some of the backdoors for game sites show "This Account has been Suspended" when you try to access them.

What does "This Account has been Suspended" mean and why are certain sites suspend?

    This is what I get:
    ISP: Be Un Limited
    Organization: Be Un Limited
    Connection: Broadband
    Services: None Detected
    City: Horsham
    Region: West Sussex
    Country: United Kingdom
It can't be a problem with my ISP or my IP address since it only happens with Firefox. When I try out the same listings with other browsers it doesn't happen. eBay said Firefox must be making it seem as though I am in France. Goodness knows how or why??

  • Virgin mobile broadband dongle on Lion no longer working

I uploaded OS lion last week and since then my broadband dongle has not worked. Calls to Virgin mobile have proven fruitless and they never seem to pick up the calls and I can't seem to find any threads online about people with similar problems. The dongle still functions on a windows pc that I have from work. The dongle worked well on Snow Leopard.
    Any ideas?

I spnt some considerable time on the phone yesterday to both Virgin and Apple trying to resolve this problem.  The guy from Virgin (who, try as I may, I found all but impossible to understand) gave up after 5 minutes when he realised (and I said it at least 5 times) that I was using Macs. not PCs, so his advice to go to Control Panel was wasted.  he put me through to someone else who I cojld understand but who flatly blamed Apple.
Apple's response was fast and very efficient.  Since the dongle works on a PC (which it does) and works on a pre-Lion Mac (which it does), the problem is with the Virgin softeare which is not compatible.  The guy from apple pointed out that it is not Apple's responsibility to solve the problems of other hardware provides (all of whom were advised about Lion before it was released).
Virgin, in this as in so many other things, are a waste of time.  I am now arranging for the dongle to be unlocked so that I can use it with Three data cards (which do work with Lion).  I will be suspending my Virgin account until they resolve the issue.  I will not hold my breath.

  • Over charged for broadband

During December we had problems with our you view box so BT ordered us a new one. Unfortunately the same person accidentally suspended out TV package but still charged us for it. Therefore every time we watched on demand it used up our broadband allowance causing us it go over our limit and therefore charged £5.60. Even though I made them aware of the error in December they are refusing to refund the money. Does anyone have any ideas?

If you would like to try Live Chat they should be able to help you.
There are some useful help pages here, for BT Broadband customers only, on my personal website.

  • BT Broadband not activated properly 3 weeks ago - ...

I've had ongoing problems with my BT Broadband service since it was supposed to be activated on 7th Jan.  The lights on the hub were blue and the fault team confirmed that the connection was good from their side, however, every time I logged into the hub I was redirected to a screen advising that my service had been suspended due to an unpaid bill.
My line rental was paid in advance and the payment came off my account weeks ago, the broadband service was on the 18 months for the price of 12, so there is no bill due until month 7.  I logged into mybt which was showing a nil balance and spoke to the billing team who advised there was no bill and no restrictions, but I still can't navigate away from this page and use the service properly.  All my devices including my sky box are telling me I have no internet access.
This has been going on for 3 weeks now, level 2 faults team blame the billing team, the billing team say its a technical fault and I go round in circles explaining the problem over and over again to a different advisor each time.
To make matters worse, they disconnected my service fully last night and told me that it had been restarted and was up and running.  When I go home from work, there is no longer a signal going through to the hub and its now orange!
I spoke to someone in their complaints department last week who wasn't very helpful at all and said that if they were to cancel my connection and reprovide it, I would be charged cancellations charges!!  It's a bit of a joke when they haven't actually provided me with a service in the first place!
I'm getting nowhere with BT and am still no further forward.  Has anyone else gone through this or is there anything I can do, other than take legal action, to get this either moving or cancelled with a full refund?  I've just had enough and don't know why I thought it was a good idea to switch to bt in the first place.

  • Need to suspend the account

    Dears,
I have an Month contract with BT for unlimited Broadband and Unlimited Calls.
Now I am leaving my current address. And travelling outside UK for couple of months.
I asked to suspend the account for couple of months till back and move to a new UK address. That I don't want the new tenant to use the telephone and service for free while I am paying for that.
BT informed me that I cant suspend the account and I will need either to cancel and pay about 300 pound ( which I don't want to do ) or to move to another address ( which I don't currently have ).
I can continue paying for the contract while I am away . But I want to stop the service till I am back . Is that possible.
    Please advice urgent.
    Regards
    Ramycoo

    Hi,
If you haven't got the address after 60 days then you'd need to close the account down completely, there's no way to leave it suspended longer than that I'm afraid. It's also a bad idea to order outgoing calls barred on your line and then just leave it running. You'll still be paying a monthly charge for your services, as as soon as somebody moves into your old house and orders a service in their name it will automatically close down your account and charge you whatever the early termination charges are.
You can give the address of someone who already has a phone service as long as they are happy for you to - when you give their address they'll receive a letter letting them know that you plan to take their phone services over on the day you give to BT, so as long as you remember to cancel or change your order before the service is due to go live you won't have a problem.
    Good luck!

  • Account suspended in error

    Good afternoon
I recently joined bt on the infinity package and set up a direct debit. The first bill was taken from my account on the 27th December without any problems.
I woke up this morning however to find my account has been suspended due to lack of payment, which as you can imagine was a bit of surprise! I tried the call centre earlier today only to be faced when the same automated message at every turn telling me " Your account has been suspended, press 1 to pay your bill etc". That could be difficult seeing as there isn't a bill to pay!
As you can imagine I'm pretty annoyed at all this so can someone please contact me to tell me what is going on and how you plan to rectify the situation.
    I await your reply

  • Stream 8 tablet location does not work on T-mobile broadband

On my HP Stream 8 tablet, location works fine with GPS only (GNSS on; Mobile Broadband, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth off).
However, if I turn on Mobile Broadband and connect to T-Mobile and turn off GNSS (or GNSS on inside where there is no GPS signal) and keep Wi-Fi and Bluetooth off, the location gives very odd results.  Last week the map showed Phoenix as my location (I am actually located in San Francisco).  This week, it gives Brentwood or Clayton, CA, both more than 30 miles away.
HP tech support said call T-Mobile.  T-Mobile said they had occasionally seen equally odd locations.
I went to a nearby T-Mobile store.  They had a Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 which always gave a correct location, within 100 feet using T-Mobile alone.  Manually moving the map to a different location in an attempt to confuse it and turning it on and off, it would still find the correct location.  No surprise there, my three year old Virgin Mobile LG android cell phone does just as good a job at finding locations.
(The T-mobile store also had an iPad Mini 3 that I was able to confuse.  On T-Mobile alone and clicking on My Location in maps, it produced a grid that was blank except for a line saying that it was unable to find a location, no info or link to what to do next.  The T-Mobile store did not have a Stream 8.  The Microsoft Store has a Stream 8 but it is not connected to Mobile Broadband.)
Does anyone else have this problem?  Is my unit defective? There  are times that a GPS signal is unavailable and a T-mobile broadband signal is available, and it seems that this unit should be able to find a location at least as well as my cell phone.
    Thanks.

I see the same basic results, wifi=off, bluetooth=off, gnss=off, t-mobile=on. Open win8.1 map-app shows my location in LA south of the 101/110 junction. I'm in SF Bay area near San Jose about 400 miles away. Turn on wifi and map-app shows me at my real address. With t-moile only, opened win8.1 IE, went to www.bing.com/maps location also shows LA.
My only t-mobile account is the stream8 free 200mb/month data plan, don't think they have my real address anywhere. My t-mobile "phone" number is 720 area code in the Denver area. No idea why middle of LA is the t-mobile location. Must be a "feature, not a bug".

  • Final attempt at a solution ... broadband drop out

Perhaps someone can help before - now being contract free - I leave BT.
For the last 9 months or so, we find ourselves unable to use our broadband connection without rebooting the hub.  We have replaced the ADSL filter countless times, have used the test socket, have had the line checked, have left the thing unrest for 10 days (going without internet), had the noise adjusted up and down, I have used each and every wireless channel.  When things go wrong, no lights on the homehub (incidentally, HH2, but I have also used a HH1 without luck) change and all looks normal but we find ourselves unable to connect.  The connection mostly seems to go in the evening, but it's also been hopeless this afternoon (for example), most recent afternoons and also on Sunday mornings.  In effect, there is no pattern...  To get going again, all we have to do is reset, but that's not exactly convenient.
I asked about 9 months ago for a change to HH3 in case that helped.  I don't think it will.  I am currently using a linksys modem and router to see what happens - guess what? same problem!  Interestingly, when it goes down, the modem lights again suggest there is nothing wrong with the connection.
BT have now worked out my contract is up and are telling me to recontract and negotiate to receive a HH3 - yes, I have to negotiate to get one despite always and for ever being with BT. If the problem persists, they will see what they can do.
Of course, I have no intention of getting stuck with a new contract for a piece of equipment that won't solve the problem.  But I am also rather reticent to leave BT - not least because to have any confidence of not suffering problems in future, I think I need to move away from using the same phone line which means going cable...
Does anyone have any ideas?  I attach my latest status report from my linksys modem...
    Thanks!
    GBH1000

    Hi.  Thanks for coming back.
I haven't solved anything - including previous error probs - but life was very hectic and while I allowed the contract to tick down, I reset the hub twice a day and coped.  I've only been waging a final battle because it feels like a big risk switching providers if this can be fixed...
Here are the latest stats.  As you can see I have reinstalled the BT HH2 because my wife uses the BB talk facility some evenings (including tonight) and it's easier to use the hub.
Anyway - here you go.  These numbers mean nothing to me.  Interestingly, I have NEVER been asked about them by anyone at BT either!

  • Suspend to RAM no longer works, even in a console

I've recently installed Arch on an SSD (OCZ Vertex 2) and I have testing repo enabled.  I can get the laptop to suspend outside of KDE using pm-suspend, but the system never comes back after pressing a key.  The cursor just stays there.  The caps lock key still toggles, but I can't shutdown using the power button.
In KDE when I close the lid it doesn't do anything.
When I first set up KDE suspend worked....I'm not sure what package broke it, but could anyone have any ideas?

Could it be that I don't have a swap file?  Surely not....I have 4GB of memory and I've never had problems with suspend in the past.
I was able to get it to suspend while in KDE using pm-suspend while in konsole and all of the console screens were black, with the exception of tty7, which had konsole up (without any window decoration).  I wasn't able to execute any commands (including shutdown), nor could I su - to root.
This happened a second time, and it mentioned that it was enable to mount  sda2 (which is my route partition)  Any ideas on how to fix this?  I NEED suspend.
Other than that I'm getting great performance, especially with my fstab options set in place.

  • BT can actually fix broadband faults! (no I'm not ...

Just had to post this for anyone to read who have encountered problems with BT Broadband. Its been put onto an old thread but incase your new or never saw it here it is.
Anyone else seen the flying pigs all covered in snow?
It's finally happened, after 14 months, hours upon hours spent on the phone to Broadband No Support India Division, emails back and for with moderators and BT, 4 engineer visits and 3 emails to the chairmans office my broadbands been fixed. Yes thats right its not a mistype my broadband has actually been fixed.
I did try the noise line test as recomended by another forum member but I had no noise on the line.
After my last attempt to email the chairmans office (that and the short but blunt voicemail message I left too) I had a call from a new person who works in the chairmans office. This lady couldn't have been more helpful. She'd actually looked into my account and problems dating back to the day I joined BT Broadband back in January 2009 and was shocked to see some of the crazy and down right ridiculous things I'd been told and had to put up with. I was even more shocked when she knew exactly what an external NTE was. She listed to what I had to say and the long long list of what I'd tried over the 14 months and how even with 2 replacement hubs sent out nothing changed. She decided that from what I'd described it was a faulty hub issue. I have to admit when I was told this I was a bit apprehensive and wasn't expecting anything new to actually happen. Wrong!
Instead of just winging me out a new bog standard Type A Hub 2.0 she sent me out a new Hub 2.0 Type B. She explained how it was made by a different manufacturer and how it had a different chipset in it and that there had been customers who had found it solved there problems. I was dubious but I agreed to having one to try. 2 days later it arrived. Looks exactly the same as the 3 other hub 2.0 I have had in the past. I set it all up, switched it on and hey presto it burst into life. When it did burst into life there was no annoying loud clicking noise like with the Type A hubs. I logged into the Hub Manager and it appears to be more user friendly and pretty quick. For some unknown reason all previous Hubs upon connection would start with an Actual Data Transfer Speed of 100 odd mbps then almost immediately this would decrease down to 54 mpbs. Right away its showing as being 130mbps.
Tried logging back into Hub Manager later on and I was astonished to see that the Actual Data Transfer Speed was still showing as being 130mbps. Then I looked at the connection speed of all joined PCs, Laptop and Netbook to find they were all at 100mbps. This is something which had never been achieved before. Now I started thinking is this actually going to work? Yes, it did. Using the internet now is quicker than its ever been. My download speed has increased from approx 6mb up to a now steady 7mb and the upload speed is slightly quicker too. The lovely lady from the chairmans office rang back a few times to see how things were going and apologised everytime for the way my broadband problems and the support lines have been of no help/use. I told her under no way was I ever ringing India again and she said hopefully next year it'll all be back in the UK. (Fingers crossed folks)
Its now been 13days, 2 hours, 17 minutes & 51 seconds since switching to the Hub 2.0 Type B and I've had no flashing orange lights, no disconnections and none of those annoying 'Theres a problem with your broadband messages' appearing on my monitor. This is unheard of. If I'm lucky may go for a week without frequent disconnects (it did happen in summer 2009) but certainly no longer than that.
Its both great and disgusting at the same time. Yes its great that I now have the broadband service I've been paying for but disgusting that its taken 14 months to get it. That and the fact that despite all the bull excuses and comments on how its the phone line inside and its the electrical interference and that its a fault with all my PCs, laptops and netbooks etc that it is in fact down to that bloomin Hub!
Compensation is being looked into and should be forthcoming. I do not want to curse it but if these great speeds/transfer rates remain and I continue to be able to use my Broadband without that blasted constant clicking noise, flashing orange broadband light and frequent disconnections (deep breath) I may stay with BT.
Thanks to everyone whos suggested or commented on things to try.
No disrespect to the Mods on here but I did contact yourselves numerous times on the old BT Forums and got nowhere. The usual thing was to be told a line test had been done, no faults found now ring BT Broadband helpline. In my case no it wasn't a line fault it was rubbish BT Hubs 2.0 type A fault!
All I can recommend for anyone whos sick to the back teeth ringing India and getting nowhere with there broadband problems try using Google and searching for BT Chairmans email address and fire an email to them with details of your problems/experiences.
     Good Luck
