My Acer a newer one has a Broadcom 802.11 adaptor can anyone offer any advice .
Is the Atheros adaptor no good for then new hub or does it need new drivers or even a new network adaptor
Help please

I would try a new driver something like this. http://www.atheros.cz/atheros-wireless-download.php?chipset=22&system=6

OK since your security is set to WPA why do you want to go to WEP? DS? If everything is configured correctly you should not have to change anything. If you are connecting another device and forgot what your WPA setting were just go into the router and take a look see.
    1. I set up everything, its all fine and ok
    2. The DS can't connect to WPA, only WEP or Open
    3. I know what my WPA settings are and the codes to both settings

  • Clients behind shared wireless can only connect one at a time to RV042

I am using a RV042 HW version 3 (black front panel and blue user interface).
I have have 2 vpn users who share an apartment.
They use a wireless router to get to the internet.
Both use Windows 7 (firewall enabled) and the latest QuickVPN client.
As it is, only one of the users can connect at the same time.
When one is already connected the other gets a message "the remote gateway is not responding"

  • BCM 4313 wireless can't connect, ethernet works only in live CD

Hi! I'm finding it impossible to get Arch working due to internet problems, and I've spent a while trying to figure out how to solve them and got nowhere.
My laptop has Broadcom 4313 wireless. Using wifi-menu, I can see a bunch of wireless networks, but whenever I try to connect to mine, the connection fails. When I first tried to install Arch over a year ago, this was the case, but at some point a few months on it randomly worked, then didn't, and more recently worked when I tried connecting to another network. On Mint 14 I use the broadcom-wl module and it works great. On Arch, I installed broadcom-wl when chrooted and it seemed to install fine, and when I rebooted lsmod showed that it loaded wl, but it still wouldn't connect to the router
The default wireless driver seems to be brcmsmac, and wireless in most distros in weak, probably because they can't include broadcom-wl.
    dmesg | grep wl:
    [ 0.000000] DMI: Hewlett-Packard HP G62 Notebook PC /143B, BIOS F.2B 12/05/2011

The RTL8101E/RTL8102E ethernet works fine on live USB, but it doesn't work at all after that. I have no idea what causes this.
    dmesg | grep r8169

I'm also probably going to install linux-rt at some point. Any ideas?

Victory (haven't tried linux-rt yet). In case this helps anyone, here's what worked for me:
I installed Lynx by downloading the package and the *.db files, allowing me to offline install it and therefore log into Studentcom's portal. This bit was made trickier by a load of pointless troubleshooting because I thought I wasn't connected. Turns out Studentcom blocks ping.
Next up, I installed the broadcom-wl package, which worked fine after rebooting into the system.
Finally, I just didn't activate ethernet properly. To get both linked up and automatically starting on boot, I did this:
    systemctl enable [email protected]
    wifi-menu wlp3s0
    systemctl enable [email protected]
    dhcpcd enp2s0
And now for the search engines: 584037-001 x16-96072

  • Wireless can't connect

Looking for Network key (WEP key or WPA key)

Only you or whoever configured your wireless network can know its password.
To change it, momentarily depress the Extreme's reset button. You will have two minutes to connect to it using AirPort Utility and change your wireless network password: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht3728
    Read "Soft Reset".
Though the KB article above indicates a five minute period, I have timed it on my AirPort base stations and determined it's only two minutes.

  • T61 wireless can't connect with authentication key enabled

    Hello all,
I have a new Thinkpad T61 that will properly connect to my wireless network when the router is configured as unsecured but CANNOT connect when I set up a network key.  In my router config I have tried using both the WPA-PSK and WPA2-PSK authentications.  I enter a 9 character network key made up of ordinary numbers that it accepted by the router, and save settings.  The other settings on the screen are:
WPA Group Rekey Interval = 0
    WPA Encryption = AES
    WEP Encryption = Disabled
In the Windows wireless interface I select the network, type in the key, and get to the “acquiring network address” stage but no further.  The connection window shows that packets are being sent and received.  As soon as I go back to my router config and set it as unsecured, the wireless connects no problem.  I have tested another laptop on the network with a passkey and it connected without any problems.
Occasionally when I am tinkering with the wireless settings (especially after clicking on the wireless tray icon) the system locks and I have to reboot.  Before the reboot I get a program “not responding” dialog box where it asks me to end explorer.exe and a program called CiceroUIWndFrame.exe
The system came pre-loaded with Linux but I’ve changed to XP Pro.  I have done all Windows updates, through SP3 and re-installed the driver for the network adapter 7kwc50ww.exe (I hope correctly??).  I am using Windows to configure wireless, but thinkvantage ver. 4.52 is also running.  I tried disabling Windows networking and configuring through thinkvantage, but this fails also.
I have called tech support on my DSL company but they are out of ideas and think it is my router but I am doubtful because it was working fine before I got the new machine, and it worked on the other laptop.  I think something must have gone wrong in the XP install.
    Any ideas??
    Cheers,
    Will

A quick and dirty test would be to completely uninstall Access Connections and try using just the Windows Wireless Zero Configuration. In my personal opinion, unless you are using multiple wireless configs at multiple locations the ThinkVantage software is overkill. Also, if you search the board, you will find multiple instances of SP3 wrecking wireless. Let us know if this helps.

    Hi,
Try following these steps and check if that may help:
    http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c03806987/
I would also suggest disabling any anti virus or firewall software on your PC which might block the installation.
Be sure to use the latest drivers, those can be downloaded below:

  • TS1398 have been connected to my wireless network using a netgear sky broadband router succesfully for a few weeks, suddenly can't connect, network is showing but no signal - all other wireless gadgets are connected just fine - including iphone - any idea

my ipad 4 has been connected to my wireless network using a netgear sky broadband router succesfully for a few weeks, suddenly can't connect, network is showing but no signal - all other wireless gadgets are connected just fine - including iphone - any ideas?

    Some things to try first:
    1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
    2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
    3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
    4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
    5.  Renew IP Address: (especially if you are droping internet connection)
        •    Launch Settings app
        •    Tap on Wi-Fi
        •    Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
        •    In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

  • HT1178 Do I want to create a new wireless network or join my current network?  I can't connect an ethernet cable to the Mac / printer and to the wireless modem at same time - in two different rooms.

I am trying to set up Time Capsule so that I can do my first backup (after 1 1/2 years!) with Time Machine.  I have read other forums, but in each case they instructions eventually do not apply.
I have connected my TC to my existing wireless router.  This sits in a bedroom and cannot be moved as a rental home.
I have plugged in the TC and updated the software.
Now - do I want to A Create a New Wireless Network (remember I can't connect the TC to Mac using an Ethernet cable). B Replace an existing base station or wireless router with TC (only intend to use for TM as don't know other benefits as of yet). or C want TC to join current network.
Thinking C.  If I choose C, it then asks A TC to wireless join current network (NO as already connected using Ethernet). B want to connect TC to my network using Ethernet to extend my existing wireless network. C want to disable the wireless network on this TC and connect it to my computer or network using Ethernet - CANNOT do this as devices can not be in the same room.
Or do I want to create new wireless network - first set of questions - choice A?  What is the benefit to creating a new one when I won't be in this rental house for longer than 18 more months??
    Please help and quickly!  Thanks!

    Let me suggest some things.
But first ask exactly what wireless router you have now and what type of broadband service?
Are you happy with the wireless on the current router? If so, then you can plug the TC straight into whatever computer you have by ethernet, short 1M cord with no connection to the network. And use it without affecting your existing network at all. This is trivial setup.
Although you don't say exactly what Mac and printer you are using, is it a desktop? Laptop it is definitely easier not to plug it in, but a desktop you can plug in the TC and it will all sit happily together.
How is the printer connected and to what?
I am not sure why you need such quick help.. this is all minor setup stuff.. and 18months in todays world is like permanent man.
Your multiple A, B, C are more confusing than helpful.
The best choices without more info.. are to replace the existing wireless router with the TC. ie your option B.. but how to do this depends on the type of connection. Is it cable or adsl? Can you easily bridge the existing modem router.. if that is what it is?
Think carefully in the ideal world what would you like..
    and what do you have..
We can probably suggest ways and means to fit what you like to what you have.. without introducing a stack of options that are doing your head in.

  • Can I connect to two wireless networks at a time?

I am using an iMac currently connected wirelessly to a Verizon Mifi mobile broadband on one network. I also have a Linsys router connected to the same iMac via an ethernet cable so that I may stream my itunes content to my Apple TV third gen. Lets call this my private network and the verizon my internet for now.
Instead of connecting the ethernet cable to the computer, itself, for the use of the private network, I am wondering if there is a way/workaround/software that would allow me to connect to both the internet AND the private (non internet) networks at the same time. I have the internet info (IP, Mask, Gateway, DNS) and know how to change that same information by logging into my router via its standard IP address to set up. Can anyone lend me ANY leads to this.
My goal it to be able to eliminate the ethernet, and connect to both networks at the same time just to be clear.
    THANKS!!!

The way that the Macs work, in general, is that the Internet connection can be shared out through the various means that are installed on the Mac itself. For instance, I used to have Verizon Wireless' 4GLTE Modem connected to a USB port and shared it out via the wireless and Bluetooth PAN.
The biggest problem faced by using Bluetooth is the distance. As everyone who uses Bluetooth headsets knows, you really cannot wander too far from the unit you are paired with--at most 30-40 feet. The unit I was experimenting with was my iPod Touch 4G. I turned off the wireless on the iPod, but left the bluetooth on.
When you Internet Share with the iMac, you have to set the IP address for the connection the other devices are going to share on (i.e. if you connect to Internet on Ethernet, share out on wireless--Ethernet ip might be 192.168.1.8, set your wireless as 192.168.2.1). HOWEVER, set your IP for the shared part before starting the connecting of Internet Share. The set by DHCP should be turned off, you want it to be a static address.

I recently transferred my internet service to another state.I have not yet moved my imac, just my pc laptop. I cannot get my airport extreme wireless router to work. The green light stays lit when everything is connected but I can't connect to the internet. Any suggestions?

I would recommend that you do the following as a minimum:
Power-down the modem, AirPort base station, and computer(s).
Power-up the modem; wait at least 10-15 minutes to allow it adequate time to initialize.
Power-up the AirPort base station; wait at least 5-10 minutes. Note: The AirPort's status light may continue to flash amber after it has intialized. That is because, there may be some additional configuration items necessary, like setting up wireless security, before the overall setup is completed to get a green status.
    Power-up your computer(s).
If the above steps do not solve the problem, start over with step 1 above, but then perform the next steps between steps 1 & 2. above.
Disconnect the AirPort base station from the Internet broadband modem.
While all of the devices are powered-down, perform a "factory default" reset on the base station. This will get it back to its "out-of-the-box" configuration and make setting it up much easier, especially if you use the "Assist me" process within the AirPort Utility. (ref: Resetting an AirPort Base Station or Time Capsule)
After the base station resets, go ahead and power it back down.
Reconnect the AirPort base station to the Internet broadband modem. For the Extreme and Time Capsule, be sure to connect the cable to the base station's WAN (circle-of-dots) port.
Continue with step 2 in the first set of steps.
In this basic configuration, the AirPort base station will broadcast an unsecured wireless network with a Network Name (SSID) of Apple Network NNNNNN. Network clients, connected to the base station either by wire or wireless, should now be able to access the Internet through the ISP's modem. Once Internet connectivity has been verified, you can use the AirPort Utility to configure the base station for wireless security and any other desired options. Please post back your results.

  • Can I connect landline phone to the 4G LTE wireless router?

Can I connect a landline phone to the 4G LTE wireless router?

What a great question, tdplu. Are you using the 4G LTE Broadband Router with Voice?
With  the Verizon 4G LTE Broadband Router with Voice, you can make calls with your landline phone and access the Internet on multiple devices, simultaneously.
With the original 4G LTE Broadband Router, you will not be able to connect to the landline.

  • I set up time capsule and now can't connect wirelessly

I got home with my new Apple and Time Capsule last Friday and was unable to connect to the net. I called Cox cable and they came out and got me up and running. The yellow light on the Tine Capsule kept blinking but I was able to connect and thought it was just a glitch.
Today I added a printer and, after a few headaches, got it up and running. Then I tried to set up the automatic backup process and thought I was OK. Now, however I can't connect wirelessly at all. I keep getting the message "None of your preferred networks are available." I have a neighbor with a wireless network and it sees that, so something is going on. I also am able to connect directly to my modem and get connected. The yellow light is still blinking!
I have tried re-starting the computer, turning off both the modem and Time Capsule, but nothing works. I am beginning to think I have a defective Time Capsule but the store I got it from is two hours away, so if anyone can offer a suggestion, I would be most grateful.

I just went through the same deal. I'm not exactly sure how I did it, but I eventually got it to work, and even have Back to My Mac in play. For the next ten minutes, anyway.
So here's the deal. These are some of the things I did that you might try.
First, there is a big issue regarding how you presently connect to the internet - DSL modem? Cable modem? A dixie cup and a piece of thread? Time Capsule is both a router and a wireless base station, so whatver you're using now might be performing router duty as well, and screwing things up. I replaced my AT&T 2Wire device (modem, router, and wireless base station in one box) with a DSL modem. Oh, and when I was prompted, I assigned the public IP address for my broadband connection (the one that begins with 70.xxx.xxx.xxx) to the TIme Capsule, instead of having Time Capsule get one of those 192.xxx.x.xxx or 10.x.x.x IP addresses from DHCP.
The modem has to operate in "bridge mode." Whatever the heck that means.
Also, in configuring time capsule, I initially used an ethernet cable attached to a computer (in this case, my MacBook Pro). It seemed easier to get it going that way, and once it had managed to connect, it made it easier to get on just using the wireless connection.
When you're prompted, you want to create a new network, although it might be helpful to take it one step at a time and keep your present network up and running and let Time Capsule join that deploying - initially - just the wireless backup capability.
Oh, and regarding restarting all the hardware, I did that too. But with Time Capsule, if you're not already doing it, you should not just restart the device, but do a reset. On the back of the device if you look carefully toward the right you will see a little pinhole. Get a paper clip and depress the little button inside that little pinhole until the front light begins to blink rapidly. That resets Time Capsule and was the only way I could get the thing to bite at the beginning.
So much for Mac's just working. Although once they do . . . .
