Re-buying previously purchased music (new computer)

Hi guys,
I just installed iTunes on a new laptop. I haven't had an ipod for a couple of years, but naturally the old itunes account is still there. I can't find the music I bought back then (which makes sense) but I also don't seem able to re-buy the tunes. I'm sure there's a really obvious solution I'm missing.
Cheers!

The tunes you bought are still where you left them: on the hard drive of the computer from which you bought them, and any backups you may have made.
You have a few options:
If the songs are on your iPod, you can put them into the new iTunes using the "Transfer Purchases" feature. (This one does not help in your case.)
You can contact iTunes Customer Service and tell them there were extenuating circumstances and see if they will bend the policy and allow a free re-download. They are not obligated to do so, but they occasionally do.
You cannot re-buy them from the iTunes Store with your current account, but you can go buy them from the amazon.com MP3 Download Store and add the MP3s to your iTunes library.
Finally - you probably knew this was coming - please start keeping a backup of your music and other valuable files.
Edit: I meant amazon.co.uk for you!

  • Previous Purchases with new computer

I have a question, and it's that I have just received my MacBook Air on Monday, but all of my iTunes purchases were on my old PC which had it's memory clean out recently. Do I have to repay for ALL of my Music, Movies, Apps, and TV shows and if not, then how do I recover them and put them on my Mac???

For future reference - back up your purchases - The iTS allows one d/l - if you get a second chance at a iTS purchase d/l be happy that you didn't have to re-purchase the item. This applies to TV Shows, Movies, Tunes - apps are different.
I have 2 b/u of my iTunes on ext HD's. I have too much time invested and don't want to have to recreate and re-rip all my CD's.

  • I cannot find a way to authorize my new computer to play previously purchased music from itunes.  The directions say to click on STORE menu, but I don't see that option.

I cannot find a way to authorize my new computer to play previously purchased music from itunes.  The directions say to click on STORE menu, but I don't see that option.

Go to the Store menu item on the menu bar, and choose Authorize This Computer, as shown below.
If by any chance you don't see the menu bar (File, Edit, View, Controls, Store, Help), first enable it by using CTRL+B.

  • ITunes said I have to "authorize" my new computer in order to play previously purchased music, how do I do that?

I have a new iMac, when I tried to play previously purchased music on iTunes I was told that I have to "authorize" the new computer, how do I do that?

    Authorization
iTunes Store- Authorize or deauthorize your Mac or PC.
In iTunes you use the Authorize This Computer or De-authorize This Computer option under the Store menu in iTunes' menubar. For Windows use the ALT-S keys to access it. Or turn on Windows 7 and 8 iTunes menus: iTunes- Turning on iTunes menus in Windows 8 and 7.

I have a new computer and cannot access my previously purchased music from here. The error message says I need to authorize this computer??

There's a couple of ways to get through to the authorisation controls in the 11.0.x versions.
The control is still in the Store menu, but first (if you're using iTunes versions 11.0.x) you might need to bring up the menu bar to see the Store menu.
If you're using 11.0.x, click on the wee boxy icon up in the top-left corner of your iTunes to see the "Show Menu Bar" control, as per the following screenshot:
Then you'll find the control in the Store menu:
Alternatively, if you don't want to bring up the menu bar, it's still possible to get into the authorise controls via nested menus accessible from the wee boxy icon. Here's a screenshot of where to find them:

  • How does one authorize another computer to play previously purchased music?

I have recently downloaded a ITunes software on a new computer. I would like to authorize the computer to listen to previously purchased music.
My understanding is that we can share music on Itunes on up to five computers.
I woud appreciate if someone could share a document on how to authorize mulitple computer to a single account.
    Thank you

  • I purchased a new computer and want to import music from other computers and sources to my hard drive, how do I import the actual songs and not the links?

I purchased a new computer. I would like to import all of my music from my other computers and external hard drives. I want to only import the physical songs not "Links". Also not duplicates. How do I do this?

Under Edit > Preferences > Advanced make sure the Copy... option is ticked. This will ensure any files you drag to the library get copied into your library's media folder.
If the same content appears at more than one location, or you add it more than once, then iTunes will create dupes. There isn't really any way to avoid that, but I've written a script called DeDuper which can help remove them. See this thread for background.

I purchased a new computer, i want to install the CS5 i previously purchased onto my new computer. How do I do this? Do I have to repurchase the product?

You don't have to repurchase CS5. If you still have the old computer, you should open one of the CS5 applications and choose Help > Deauthorize to remove using that computer from your license.
If you no longer have access to the old computer, you can do this with web chat here:
    Serial number and activation support
If it's a new computer, you can install from the original discs or installer. If you don't have a copy, you can download it here:

  • When you download previously purchased music to the cloud does it cost anything??, When you download previously purchased music to the cloud does it cost anything??

My computer just crashed tonight and I am trying to get my previously purchased music onto my new laptop but it keeps asking for my payment info like I am trying to make another purchase... Shouldn't I get it for free since I already paid for it?? I dont know if they are asking just because or if they are gonna charge me. I dont wanna go further until I know because that would be a large purchase and I am already out quite a bit of money today.
    Thanks,
    Mandy

Currently music purchases can only be re-downloaded for free if you are in the US (re-downloading). If you are not in the US then you will need to buy them again if you want to re-download them - in which case have you not got a backup of your purchases on, for example, external drives or CDs/DVDs ?

  • Please help - I'm not able to download previously purchased music

Please advice how I can download previously purchased music in iTunes. - The music icon is missing in the Purchased window.
    Thanks

    From http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2519 :
Previously purchased music is only available through iTunes in the Cloud in Australia, Canada, Cypress, France, Ireland, Luxembourg, Malta, Mexico, New Zealand, Spain, the United Kingdom, and the United States
Have you not got a backup copy on, for example, an external drive or CD/DVD ? Or on an iPod, iPad or iPhone that you can connect to your computer's iTunes and do File > Transfer Purchass to copy them back from ?
