Hi, my daughter's account was created with her standard email address and I have been able to add her to my friends list using the work round but she does not appear in the list of users when I click share. The list of users in share is only my Facebook friends.

You probably accidentally connected your Facebook account to her Spotify account.
You can disconnect it by following the steps below.
The following is from an unofficial tutorial of How to Disconnect Spotify from Facebook:
Since you have a dedicated Spotify account, disconnecting from Facebook is easy!
In the desktop client:
Windows - Go to Edit > Preferences > Social Network > Disconnect from Facebook.
Mac - Go to Spotify > Preferences > Social Network > Disconnect from Facebook.

Hi, I don't have facebook, twitter or tumblr - but I used to send a lot of music through the share-function. All of a sudden with this update I can only send to my spotify-friends that have facebook, twitter or tumblr it seems? one of my friends, who like me has no social network connected to the profile, the share-function just won't find anymore!Am I doing something wrong? I've been sending tracks to one of my friends for a long time and suddenly, at the weekend, it stopped working. It said 'message sent' but when I spoke to him he had not received the track. He tried to send a track to me and that didn't work either - he clicked 'people' and got a message saying 'get started' that takes him to FB and he doesn't want that. He's sent me stuff before direct from Spotify.
I tried to send by clicking on his avatar and this time I got a message saying it couldn't send.
My friend's account is FB linked but that hasn't made a difference before. As a matter of interest, he says he never linked the accounts himself - it just happened. Another friend of his recently tried to send him a track via FB but he can't play it.
I know I've said it before and so have plenty of others but this is frustrating coz a system that used to be beautifully simple is all over the place.

Hi Justinece, I've solved the problem in this way:
In my wife user profile I've set in itunes settings/advanced the path to my music library: /Users/"MY NAME"/Music/iTunes/Itunes media.
Than, from my wife profile using my administrator user and password I've set the "read/write" privileges on the above mentioned folder.
Finally I've added the folder in my wife's library taking care to not duplicate it ( leave blank the flag in itunes setting/advanced).
I really don't understand what's the use of home sharing...

Dear All,
My wife and I use the same MacbookPro, but our own different login Accounts on the Mac, how can we share photos bewtwen these 2 accounts.
Say, I've downloaded some pics from my camera and would like to transfer to her login account.
Can I do it on the desktop level or can I use iPhoto to do this? I'd like to know how to do bothways, without having to duplicate the files(ie saving 2 copies of the same file on the computer)
Isn' there a 'New' feature on iPhoto / Aperture saying that it uses the same 'Unified' library or something ?
Can this feature help? but how to activate?

Macs have a folder called "Public" for this purpose. See this from Finder's help:
Share files with others using a drop box
To give a copy of a file to another user, you can copy the file to the person’s Drop Box.
HidePut a file in the Drop Box of another user on your Mac
Open the user’s Public folder (in their home folder in the Users folder on your hard disk).
Hold down the Option key and drag the file to the Drop Box in the user’s Public folder.
Click the desktop to make sure you’re in the Finder, and then choose Go > Computer.
Double-click the icon for your computer’s internal disk (usually named Macintosh HD) to open its folder.
Open the Users folder, and then open the folder for the person to whom you’re giving a file.
Open the user’s Public folder, and then drag the file to the Drop Box. To keep a copy of the file for your own use, hold down the Option key while you drag.
Even though you can put items in another user’s Drop Box, you can’t open any Drop Box except your own.

Can't share iTunes between Users

Trying to share iTunes between users on a Powebook 15" 1.6 Ghz running Leopard.
I followed the instructions in this link:

As instructed I moved the administrators iTunes Music folder to the computer / Users / Shared folder.
Then I changed the Preference in the admin's iTunes to choose the new location of the folder as instructed. (I chose the Shared folder as the location, not the iTunes Music folder itself)
Then I got a dialog box asking if I wanted iTunes to organize the files and I clicked Yes.
(then I rebooted iTunes)
Then I looked in the Shared folder and was surprised to see that the Shared folder was full of lots of folders of artists names which contain music files. Also in there was the iTunes Music folder which contained a few folders of artists names.
Is this correct? Should all the artist folders be inside the iTunes Music folder?
Lastly the sharing does not seem to have worked. When I log in as one of the other (non admin) users, and change their iTunes Preferences to locate their ITunes Music folder as the computer Shared folder, then reboot iTunes, the music is NOT accessible to them. (no music showing in their library)
In the link instructions it says to "follow the above steps for all users who want to share their music"
Well, as mentioned I changed the non admin users iTunes Preferences to specify the new location inside the Shared folder
but if I also try to follow the step of moving the non admin users iTunes Music folder to the computer Shared folder it asks me if I want to replace it - so I assume I should not duplicate this step.
PHEW !!
Also I noticed in the admins home folder there is also a Shared folder which seems to be a different one to the computer Shared folder. (this one contains other music files)

I am having a similar problem, but between macs and PCs. The PC (1 vista and 1XP) can share between themselves, and the mac can share between users, but neither PCs or mac sees the other. I have checked all sharing (itunes and systems prefs) and both indicate they are on but no one is connected. Both PC also have sharing turned on. By the way, this worked a week ago. I have not changed anything that would cause sharing to be affected.

How can I share bookmarks with users

How can bookmarks be shared with users.
Ideally I would like the users to see or have acces to a folder or link to 'other bookmarks' when they login.

the only problem is that any time you add media to the admin account, you have to go into the other account and add it to that itunes.

How can i share my admin user contacts with other users

I have sat in front of my computer for 2 days now and still cant work our how to share my contact book with other users on the same macbook air, can anyone help?

I have just found out for myself finally, I added my icloud account to his emails and just unticked the mail option and the contacts appeared as if by magic.
Hopefully if anyone else has this problem they will see this answer

Can't share internet over airport anymore

I’ve got DSL hardwired to a G5.
It has an airport that used to share my internet connection wirelessly to several laptops.
The other day, I restarted the tower, and I was unable to reconnect to the web from the laptops.
The little airport icon with the antenna/up arrow doesn't show up anymore.
I can use the airport on the tower – the card still seems to work so that’s not it. Something in my G5 system (10.4.6) won’t allow internet sharing to airports anymore.

Can't share files between user accounts/User accounts not showing up?

I just bought a new macbook tonight. After doing the initial setup, I updated the software as requested. Next I setup seperate accounts for my wife and I. The only files we want to share are pictures and music, but for some reason I have been unable to share them. If I do a search while logged into her account, I can bring up the pictures just fine. However, when I go into Macintosh HD\Users my user name is not there.
For example, if my original user name (created automatically) was "jonathandoe" and I changed it to "John Doe", "Jon Doe" does not show up under Macintoshhd even though I've shared it. The only thing there is "jonathandoe" and there is nothing in the pictures directory.
What gives?

Lots of good info but didn't solve my problem. Seems that my Vista machine, while is online via the network, can't see anything on the network except for itself. It had success using SMB at some point to transfer files to the Vista machine but I don't remember what was different. It may have been before I actually setup the AEBS network and was still using an older Microsoft router. Or, it could have been when I was using N plus B/G with WEP versus N plus A which I'm using now.

How can I share music between users on one computer without duplicating it all?

I have myself and my partner set up as separate users on my laptop. I have shared the music on iTunes so we can both access it, but this has meant that all my music is on the laptop twice and is consequently taking up all the memory. Please can someone tell me how to do this without duplicating everything?

Can you "share" photos between users?

quick, likely dumb question - we're new to the mac:
my wife and i are set up as two users with password log-in, etc. yesterday, she uploaded all of our photos to iPhoto on HER account; how do i access those photos on MY account using iPhoto?

Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
There are two ways to share, depending on what you mean by 'share'.
If you want the other user to be able to see the pics, but not add to, change or alter your library, then enable Sharing in your iPhoto (Preferences -> Sharing), leave iPhoto running and use Fast User Switching to open the other account. In that account, enable 'Look For Shared Libraries'. Your Library will appear in the other source pane.
Remember iPhoto must be running in both accounts for this to work.
If you want the other user to have the same access to the library as you: to be able to add, edit, organise, keyword etc. then:
Quit iPhoto in both accounts
Move the iPhoto Library Folder to an external HD set to ignore permissions. You could also use a Disk Image or even partition your Hard Disk.
In each account in turn: Hold down the option (or alt) key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting dialogue, select 'Choose Library' and navigate to the new library location. From that point on, this will be the default library location. Both accounts will have full access to the library, in fact, both accounts will 'own' it.
However, there is a catch with this system and it is a significant one. iPhoto is not a multi-user app., it does not have the code to negotiate two users simultaneously writing to the database, and trying will cause db corruption. So only one user at a time, and back up, back up back up.
Finally: If you’re comfortable in the Terminal, and understand File Permissions, ACL’s etc., some folks have reported success using the process outlined here . (Note this page refers to 10.4, but it should also work on 10.5). If you’re not comfortable with the terminal, and don’t know an ACL from the ACLU, then you’re best doing something else... Oh, and the warning about simultaneous users still applies.

Can you share to other users on the same machine?

If I have 2 users on the same machine, and I log in with one user, open iTunes, then swich user and bring up iTunes. Will the second user see the shared shongs from the first user?

Here is what I did:
1. Create new user account.
2. Open iTunes
3. Set preferences to NOT copy files over on an import.
4. Set the location for my music library to the "Public" folder (created an iTunes folder in there and pointed to it).
5. Selected "Add to Library" and selected the top level folder where my songs are (an mp3 folder on my firewire drive)
6. Since my son had some songs of his own that he exported from Garageband, I went back the the preferences and checked the "copy files on import", then selected "Add to Library" on those files. NOTE: if you do this, you may want to exclude that directory in step 5 above.
The reason I used Public/iTunes as the output folder, was so other account could import those files to their iTunes in the future.

Installed OSx Lion. Can't see my network user on launch

installed OSx Lion a few hours ago but on OSx launch I can't see my network user anymore.
Network user was appearing properly on Leopard.
Please help as I can't get access to our company network anymore.

I figured out the answer. unfortunately, the Belkin router I have does not support a HDD formatted in Mac OS. I guess I have to decide whether to stay with FAT32 for my netweork drive or get a new router...

Can't Share Motion File

I can't share anything in Motion anymore. All the items under "Share" are greyed out all of a sudden. It doesn't matter if it's an old file, a new one. What happened and what can I do to enable that whole "Share" section again?

Thanks for responding, GFXZen. I don't know where to begin. After reading all the threads by that David guy, I'm a little ticked I was fooled into buying MacKeeper. I was on live chat last year with Mac for quite some time asking why I needed MacKeeper when I was emphatically told when I bought the Mac (January 2012) THAT I DID NOT NEED ANY KIND OF ANTI-VIRUS PROTECTION. Now after reading all these threads regarding MacKeeper, it seems the answer to my original question is far more complex and way over my head to deal with. I'm not a Tekkie person. Motion was quite a learning curve by itself. It seems I need to un-install MacKeeper, but I'll probably end up doing it incorrectly. Shouldn't Apple be aware of this MacKeeper program, practices and problems? Why were they endorsing it? Are they still? I don't want to spend 6 days talking to Apple either. Shouldn't they be jumping in and trying to solve the problem once and for all anyway? At this point, I'm just confused and irritated.
