Re: Chromebook not recognising network

Hi all,
I just received a Chromebook 2 yesterday and cannot get online with it. It connects to the home network but I cannot get the internet. When I check the network settings on the Chromebook the security says RSN, but when I check the encryption security status of the HH5, I see it is WPA2, so I am presuming, this is why I cannot get on the internet.
Would this be a correct assumption? I tried going into the settings of the HH5 but could not see exactly what to do, so chickened out and placed this post!
Keith Beddoe? - would your wireless help document solve this puzzle?

I have this query on another site but have had little response of interest. Folks on here are more knowledgeable anyway, but this is a better summary of my problem for those that know a little about Chromebooks in particular !!
I have just received a Samsung Chromebook and just cannot get on the internet to sync my Google account. My last Samsung Chromebook just worked out of the box, ie switched on, it found my home wifi, I logged into Google and away I went.
This time, I just cannot get internet, despite the fact it says that the wifi is connected to my home network.
One thing I have noticed is that when I view the connection on my BT HomeHub5 management page, I see that the wifi encryption is WPA2, however, when I examine the network details on the chromebook, it says the security is RSN. (I have since gone back into the HH5 settings, but the security says WPA2 only or None)
I am thinking this may be the problem, but I cannot find any way to change this or resolve the problem. Also, I imagine the brand new Chromebook has been lying in its box in the warehouse for the last few months, and on opening and connecting to my home newtwork over wifi the first time, there was no updating as it obviously could not get internet.
Should I have logged on as Guest first to at least get the updates?, and would "Powerwashing" and starting again be an idea....... Part 2....
I have just "Powerwashed" and reset to factory settings and tried again. This is what happens:
Switch on and Welcome screen comes up - I set the settings to English- UK, then down to "UK Keyboard". I then detect my home network BTHub5 - ****, and press "Continue".
The Chrome OS T&C page comes up and I "Accept and Continue".
A page comes up saying "Chrome updates automatically so you always have the freshest version" - Checking for Updates (the wheel goes round for about 30 seconds"
The sign in page comes up but when I try to add the "ampersand" (@) for the Google email address, the @ shows as ", meaning that the keyboard is still defaulted as a US keyboard and not the UK keyboard as per the initial welcome screen.
Nevertheless, I add the email address and password but a box comes up with a small black dinosaur image that says "Network not available".
This page stays for about 30 seconds then changes back to the "Sign-in "page.
I can go no further.

Windows 7 64 bit will not recognise network adapter!

You have an older Mac that has 32-bit EFI
you need to use Windows 7 32-bit or modify the DVD.
    Select CD-ROM Boot prompt
    Stuck at Select CD-Rom Boot
Hint: Windows 7 SP1 update will need 8GB free space. Windows takes at least 16-20GB. Add in page file, hibernation (each size of physical RAM). Plus any programs and data you store. Cache and temp files (1-4GB) and you get the idea. you will find you can't even login to the sytem. Seen it happen.
old wives tale: double your best guess for how much RAM, disk space, whatever, to get a more realistic.
REMOVE the partition using BCA and create 40GB, being sure to leave 20GB free for Mac OS X volume also.

  • ITunes not recognising network connectio to update iPhone software

Installed new iTunes on iMac. Trying to update iPhone software.  iTunes says network connection could not be established.  All other network connections are working fine.

Correct, and read the other 100 posts about this today.  You and the owners of a couple of other million i-devices are all trying to update at the same time and you're encountering a traffic jam.

  • Equium M50 will not recognise the LAN port - error: Network Cable unplugged

I own a Toshiba Equium M50 and have problems with the Marvell Yukon 88E8036 PCI-E Fast Ethernet Controller.
I used to connect via an 'ADDON' Modem/ADSL Switch and had no problems. I then replaced the ADDON with a 'NETGEAR' DG834G ADSL Modem/Router to gain the wireless port, and since then my machine will not recognise the LAN port. <error: Network Cable unplugged>.
I know that the cables are OK as I used them with other laptops and had no trouble. I can also plug in a PCI card to connect without any problems. It looks to me as if the Marvell Yukon 88E8036 PCI-E Fast Ethernet Controller has a problem with the netgear Modem/Router.
Anyone out there with a similar experience and some advice/suggestions?
    PLEASE

    Hi
For me it doesnt show like a LAN card problem but your router is a problem.
Check the device manager if the LAN card was properly recognized. If there are no yellow exclamation marks so everything is ok!
You can try to delete the LAN card from the device manager and after new reboot install the LAN driver again.
The issue has stared after installing or connecting the new Netgear modem router.
Therefore I would recommend to checking firstly the settings or to update the firmware on this router.

  • I updated from Snow Leorard to Moutain Lion and now my internet will not recognise  my password. All other comps use the network but my Mac upgraded Mac Mini keeps coming up with either 'timeout' or 'user or password not recognised' ...help!

    Hello all
I upgraded from Snow Leopard to the latest Mountain Lion OS and now my Wifi will not work. When I try and insert the password to my Wifi network states either 'connection timed out' or 'password and/or user name not recognised' please help...!

Take each of the following steps that you haven't already tried, until the problem is resolved.
    Step 1
Restart the router. Many problems are solved that way.
    Step 2
Change the name of the wireless network, if applicable, to eliminate any characters other than letters and digits. You do that on your router via its web page, if it's not an Apple device, or via AirPort Utility, if it is an Apple device.
    Step 3
    From the menu bar, select
     ▹ System Preferences... ▹ Network
Click the Assist me button and select Assistant. Follow the prompts.
    Step 4
    Back up all data.
Launch the Keychain Access application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Keychain Access in the icon grid.
Enter the name of your wireless network in the search box. You should have one or more "AirPort network password" items with that name. Make a note of the name and password, then delete all the items. Quit Keychain Access. Turn Wi-Fi off and then back on. Reconnect to the network.
    Step 5
You may need to change other settings on the router. See the guidelines linked below:
Recommended settings for Wi-Fi routers and access points
    Potential sources of interference
    Step 6
Make a note of all your settings for Wi-Fi in the Network preference pane, then delete the connection from the connection list and recreate it with the same settings. You do this by clicking the plus-sign icon below the connection list, and selecting Wi-Fi as the interface in the sheet that opens. Select Join other network from the Network Name menu, then select your network. Enter the password when prompted and save it in the keychain.

  • Airport not recognising my network.

Hi. I have had a peculiar problem for the last few days: Airport is not recognising my network so I can't get online via wifi. When I plug in the LAN, then I get the connection right away. Airport (Extreme) recognises other networks so it's not that it has stopped functioning and my wife (who uses the Windows O/S) connects via wifi through our network. I have tried shutting down everything and startng up again after a gap of 5-10 minutes. That seemed to work once but hasn't since. I've tried uninstalling my network, removing any links on the keychain and then reinstalling, all to no avail. I have a 13" Macbook aluminium body which is still under the 3-year warranty period. Before I approach Apple Support, is there something that I should do? I have a feeling that somehow this can be resolved fairly easily, but then I admit to not being a computer expert by any means. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

If there is nothing connect or using to the airport express, you can try to reset the airport express back to standard.
And the default password is "public" if I am not mistaken.
And see if your MacBook can connect using that open wireless connection.
    Good Luck.

  • Since I've upgraded to Maverick the airpot utility does not recognise that there is a time capsule on the wireless network. I can see the TC using the air port utility on my iPhone5 and on my iPad. What am I doing wrong on my macbook?

Since I've upgraded to Maverick on my Macbook Pro the airpot utility does not recognise that there is a time capsule on the wireless network. I can see the TC using the air port utility on my iPhone5 and on my iPad. What am I doing wrong on my macbook?

I have over 250G backed up and I really don't want to reset everything and start again.
Not sure what you mean here.
A reset will not affect any of the data on the Time Capsule hard drive.  You would have to perform a completely separate and very deliberate Erase Disk operation for that to occur.
I'm not recommending that you perform a default reset, but it is an option if there is really nothing else to try.
I don't know if what you are seeing is a Mavericks issue or not, since I refuse to use any new software until at least the first major update with fixes comes along.
Another user may be able to offer more input on Mavericks.

  • I have airport express but it is not recognised by either my macbook pro or my ipod on my wireless network. It does not show in airport utility. Might I not have an airport card?

I have airport express but it is not recognised by either my macbook pro or my ipod on my wireless network. It does not show in airport utility. Might I not have an airport card? How would I know. Airport utility in my mac says no other devices connected.

I have airport express but it is not recognised by either my macbook pro or my ipod on my wireless network. It does not show in airport utility. Might I not have an airport card?
If both your MacBook Pro and iPod are unable to "see" the Wi-Fi network provided by the AirPort Express, it is most likely NOT that you are missing an "airport card," but the Express may be the issue instead.
One quick test is to see if either device can "see" other Wi-Fi networks. If they can, then you can definately rule both of them out as the issue.
By default, the AirPort Express will broadcast an unsecured Wi-Fi network with a network name of something like: Apple Network NNNNNN. Can either device see this network? If not, then I would recommend that you perform a "factory default" reset on the Express, and then, check again.

  • Trusted Networks not recognised - password in keychain ignored

Since I returned from Italy my wireless G4 Powerbook will not automatically recognise my trusted (wep or wpa encrypted) networks. It finds open networks just fine. It will not recognise my password even though I rewrote the log-on info and deleted old keychain passwords. Every time I log on I have to choose "diagnostics" and scan "airport". Eventually I get a message that my "network configuration has changed" and it works for that one session. Even letting the Powerbook "sleep" will wipe out my connection. I tried deleting and re-authenticating each "trusted" network but - no luck.
    Powerbook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

Do you have a login password for your user account? I've noticed sometimes after upgrades my keychain password is switched to that and I have to reset it. I agree after upgrades there's usually a number of issues that need resolution and it can by time consuming identifying and fixing the problems.

  • Windows 8.1 in Bootcamp not recognising home network WiFi

I am running bootcamp with Windows 8.1 on my MacBook Pro Retina Early 2013. I installed it together with all drivers as suggested by bootcamp.
In Mac OS 10.9.4 I am connected to my home network and can see about 4-5 other networks (from my neighbours).
After booting into Windows, I can see the networks of my neighbours but not my network.
This connection problem occurred only recently. I have been able to connect seamlessly before.
I went through the router settings not finding any restrictions to IP- or MAC-Addresses or a/b/g settings. I tried resetting my router without any luck.
I tried uninstalling the Windows WLAN driver (also disabling), but I can still only see other peoples networks. I tried restoring to an earlier point in time without any luck.
My Kindle and my Nexus 5 connect without a problem to my home network.
    Any ideas?

What finally worked was changing the channel of the router. I had my setting on auto and changed it randomly to channel 2, which worked!

  • Itunes will not recognise music on my ipod?

I have recently encoutnered a problem with my 5th generation 60gb ipod which I'm hoping someone can help me with?
When I plug my ipod into my computer and open itunes, it recognises that the ipod is plugged in, but asks me to set-up the ipod, like it is the first time I have used this ipod. Also it does not recognise any of the 5,000 or so songs on the ipod.
When my ipod is not plugged into my computer all 5,000 songs still appear on it and play with no problems.
For some reason itunes will not recognise the songs on my ipod - even though I have added them all with this software and about a third of them on this computer.
If I choose to proceed with the set-up of my ipod, I am afriad I will lose all 5,000 songs off my ipod.
Can anyone offer a suggestion - as it is, I either wipe my ipod or concede that I can't add any more songs to it, even though it is only half full.
Oh yeah, I have added all files to my ipod manually.
    Thanks!

With those symptoms, it's probably worth checking to see if you're getting a Windows drive letter confusion. For troubleshooting advice on that, see the following document:
Windows confuses iPod with network drive or hard drive and may keep iPod from mounting or songs may seem to disappear
