RE: Citrix and Hydra
Hi,
In fact we did that. There are some things to take care of:
1.) Hydra is not yet out of beta. So you have to rely on Winframe which
is STILL based on NT 3.51. Which is not supportet to run with Forte
Version 3.0. (We tried, and it ran pretty well, but you never know)
2.) In Forte 3.0 you run several Launch-Servers on the same machine. So
you have to make sure that they don't use the same FORTE_FTLAUNCH_PORT.
We use a script similar to the one below. The file hostport.txt gives a
list that shows which terminal uses which port.
grep %MASCHINE% hostport.txt > %MASCHINE%.txt
cat %MASCHINE%.txt | sed "1,$s#^.* #SET FORTE_FTLAUNCH_PORT=#g" >
%MASCHINE%.bat
call %MASCHINE%.bat
hostport.txt:
=========
Console 6000
tcp#001 6001
tcp#002 6002
tcp#003 6003
tcp#004 6004
3.) Also, all of your Client use the same machine name. Forte builds it
envrepos from that name. So you might specify -fnd =%WINSTATIONNAME% to
distinguish them.
Hope this helps

Subject: Citrix and Hydra
We were wondering if anybody has implemented multiple Forte clients running
on a server using Citrix or the upcoming Microsoft Hydra. This technology
allows thin clients to connect to an NT server and run clients on that
server, similar to how clients (terminals) connect to a mainframe and
execute client sessions.

a fairly limited bandwidth connection.

Hello,
We have been live on BPC NW SP04 via Citrix - using Office 2003- for the past 6 months no issues. We are going through an upgrade to Office 2007. What we noticed is that - when we generate any report from Citrix BPC 7.0 using office 2007 and email to users- the users are unable to view the pagekey, Row and column headings in the report. All they see is #NAME. . When you are in BPC- everything is fine no issues. We did not encounter this problem in 2003. We already changed the Macro level settings in the trust center to Enable all Macros.
Sample of the BPC report when viewed from outside of BPC. We would really apreciate any help in this matter.

Thanks for the reply. So, in your landscape- you do not encounter any issues for reports saved in BPC Citrix and view them outside BPC- say from a Shared drive or Email.
Are there any special settings that you had to enable while installing Excel in the Citrix server? We had 2003 and and we are going to 2007.

Issues with running permission scripts on Hoted desktop via Citrix and when deploying via SCCM
I am running a permissioning VBScript which runs when I do a standalone insallation manually running the power shell commands to add and publish the application.
This only runs vis SCCM when a machine installation is acrried out but not a per user installation. Any ideas?
The same script seems to run sometimes & sometimes does not on a hosted desktop with aps publish via citrix from the appv server. Any ideas?. A coppy of my Deploymentconfig.xml file userscript section that calls the script is below
<UserScripts>
<StartProcess RunInVirtualEnvironment="true">
<ApplicationId>[{AppVPackageRoot}]\Adobe Photoshop CS6 (64 Bit)\Photoshop.exe</ApplicationId>
<Path>[{AppVPackageRoot}]\..\Scripts\AdobeSerialization.exe</Path>
<Arguments>adobe_prtk --tool=VolumeSerialize --provfile=[{AppVPackageRoot}]\..\Scripts\prov.xml</Arguments>
<Wait RollbackOnError="false" />
</StartProcess>
<StartVirtualEnvironment>
<Path>WSCRIPT.EXE</Path>
<Arguments>[{AppVPackageRoot}]\..\Scripts\VFSCACLS.vbs -guid 6d0756af-b755-493b-8cee-4299e8666978 -error -name "Adobe Photoshop CS6"</Arguments>
<Wait RollbackOnError="false" />
</StartVirtualEnvironment>
</UserScripts>
The guys in the build team reckon this is an application issues but I can't see how it can be if the applications runs when manually calling the powersehell commands. Also like I said on the Hosted desktop one minutes the script runs and one minute it does
not.
Can someone help please?Hello,
If deploying the application to the user, and the configuration file is updated as part of the content and distributed to the DPs, and then downloaded to the client and the client is enabled to run scripts - no I never had that issue.
If I had something which didn't work I would usually verify what is on the Distribution Point?
You can download the SCCM 2012 R2 toolkit to verify what is on the DPs;
http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=36213
If it is deployed to the client - it means you can read the client log-file from SCCM. See the AppEnforce.log as a potential candidate;
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh427342.aspx#BKMK_AppManageLog
If it gets properly parsed by the App-V Client you can check the App-V event logs, see Tim Mangans blog post about enabling further debug-logs;
http://www.tmurgent.com/TMBlog/?p=1247
As I can't see what is happening within your Environment I would redo all the steps and verify what the results were of each step. If one step fails, I would then post what step I had performed up until that point, what the result were of each step and what
was happening within the final step that I would consider a failure.

Application redraw issue over Citrix and Terminal Server
Hi All,
We provide a client-server application which connects to a SQL Server database. The middle-tier is hosted on an application server (Windows Server 2008 R2) which in turn connects to the SQL Server database. The fat client can either be installed on user laptops/desktops
or published using Citix/Terminal services.
We have a long standing issue which frankly I just cannot fathom. A customer has published the client via Citrix to users and using roaming profiles. If an employee is using the application in London, the roaming profile is created on a server in London and
connects to the middle-tier in London. If an employee is using the application in Glasgow, the roaming profile is created in Edinburgh and the user connects to the middle-tier in London. The customer is also using DFS
The roaming profile consists of the 'My Documents', 'My Pictures', 'My Videos', 'My Music' and 'Windows' folder. Distributed File System (DFS) is used for roaming profile folder replication between offices. See http://technet.microsoft.com/en-gb/library/cc732863%28v=ws.10%29.aspx
The Edinburgh users are experiencing application redraw issue where the interface loads in chunks. For example, when a user scrolls up and down or left and right, the data loads immediately (from SQL Server) but the interface (GUI) loads in blocks. You can
actually see each segment of the GUI components loading. The issue also occurs if connecting via a Terminal Server where the application is also installed.
For London users, it all works fine. If an Edinburgh user comes to London, they have no issues.
The network connection is super fast between the various offices.
The application is built using C++ and Delphi and uses the GDI API to draw the objects.
Any guidance is appreciated.Hello partner,
Thanks for contacting Microsoft. This is Sophia who is going to help with this issue. From your description, I learnt that users from Edinburgh have application redraw issue. However, London users worked fine. Please let me know if I misunderstand your purpose.
Based on the information, it seems that the issue located in the middle-tier in London. Could you try building a middle-tier in Edinburgh and then test how the issue goes?
Besides, based on my experience and research, by default the allocation of the bandwidth is 70 percent for graphics data and 30 percent for virtual channel data, meaning when bandwidth usage is under pressure, graphics data is guaranteed to get 70 percent
of the available bandwidth. And we can tweak the settings a bit for some scenarios. To change the settings, we can set registry values. Please reference the information below.
===========================================================================================================================================
Note: For these settings to take effect, the computer must be restarted.
Following is the list of registry values that affect the bandwidth allocation behavior. These are all DWORD values under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\TermDD:
· FlowControlDisable: When set to 1, this value disables the new flow control algorithm, making it essentially First-In-First-Out (FIFO) for all packet requests. This provides results similar to Windows Server
2003. (The default for this value is 0).
· FlowControlDisplayBandwidth / FlowControlChannelBandwidth: These two values together determine the bandwidth distribution between display and virtual channels. You can set these values in the range of 0–255.
For example, setting FlowControlDisplayBandwidth = 100 and FlowControlChannelBandwidth = 100 creates an equal bandwidth distribution between video and VCs. The default is 70 for FlowControlDisplayBandwidth and 30 for FlowControlChannelBandwidth, thus making
the default distribution equal to 70–30.
· FlowControlChargePostCompression: If set to 1, this value bases the bandwidth allocation on post-compression bandwidth usage. The default for this value is 0, which means that the bandwidth distribution is applied
on pre-compressed data.

Robohelp 9, Citrix, and TFS, a good combination?
Hi,
We are using RoboHelp 9 installed in a Citrix environment, using Team Foundation Systems (TFS) as a version control system.
Some users of RoboHelp lose their Recent projects list everytime they log off the system and log back in. They also lose all information about the TFS server and have to go through the whole process of linking to a TFS server and getting back their workspace everytime they want to open a project after they've logged off their system.
The exact same configuration works well for some users, wheras they do not loose their recent projects list nor their connection information with TFS whether they log off their system or not.
Any ideas where the problem lies?
ThanksRh10 is cool with having projects on a server, not Rh10 itself. My understanding too is this is a breach of the licence agreement as it is sold on a one user per licence basis.

Citrix and SAP 8.8 : SAP crashes after choose country in master data
hi,
i'm using SAP 8.8 Sp00 PL06 and citrix xen app 5.
Each time the users try to add a new business partner and try to change the field country in business partner adresses the system crashes.
If i work directly on Server everything works fine. It seems that 8.8 has a problem with citrix.
Has anybody a solution for this problem
best regards
MarkusHello,
backlink User Exits
My Company is the Maintainer of the Citrix XenApp 5.0 Farm.
Next to the SAP Crash Dump there are no eventlogs written down to the server.
Which Authorization Issue do you mean? Why there should be an Authorization issue if the Application (and others) are working correctly? There are only certain steps/processes which are crashing the application (within the application herself).
I've read about an mostly simmilar problem with webinterface 3.0 and SAP Business One Crashes. At this time the computer name was more then 15 characters --> crashing application.
There is again an access violation. I've read about printers. What about them?

APSA11-01 - Reader X - Protected Mode unsupported Citrix and no release until June 2011
HI,
how does you handle the support for Citrix on Terminalserver in such situation?
The overall pain is that Adobe release a Security advisories but will only deliver in June 2011 the update for Reader X.
Official info:
Because Adobe Reader X Protected Mode would prevent an exploit of this kind from executing, we are currently planning to address this issue in Adobe Reader X for Windows with the next quarterly security update for Adobe Reader, currently scheduled for June 14, 2011
http://blogs.adobe.com/psirt/2011/03/security-advisory-for-adobe-flash-player-adobe-reader -and-acrobat-apsa11-01.html
http://www.adobe.com/support/security/advisories/apsa11-01.html
The really bad strategy for Enterprise customers on Citrix is .. that it does mean we need to run supported but unsecure for more then 2 months for 5000 users. The problem is that Reader X is not supported on Citrix with protected mode. This is on page 64 on Enterprise Admin Guide:
When Adobe Reader is used with Protected Mode enabled (the default), Citrix is not supported.
Administrators should disable and lock Protected Mode.
http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/837/cpsid_83709/attachments/Acrobat_Enterprise_Administration.pdf
Why does Adobe not think and support their Enterprise customer deployments and think there is no need to deploy inline with the other updates e. g. 9.x???
This goes to the strategy to go away on Enterprise environments from Adobe as you can't argue to use it this way and be unsecure.
LukasHi,
does anyone know, when Adobe is planning to support Citrix with Reader X Protoected Mode?

Citrix and NetWeaver Developer Workplace
Hi everybody,
I was wondering how one could set up NWDW (i.e. Developer Studio + Application Server) via Citrix.
I think that this is one of the solution supported by SAP but I don't seem to grasp the whole picture here.
I'm not talking about technical details, I'd just like to understand the general ideas behind it:
- where is NWDS installed? (on the remote server and accessed via Citrix?)
- how many instances of NWDS are there on the remote server?
- how many instances of the Application Server are there on the remote server?
- If there's only one NWDS and one Application Server on the remote server, how can multiple developers work simultaneously?
Any ideas?
CiaoHi,
let me add some more information on this for the sake of completeness:
As of 710 NWDS this is not a problem since once you managed to specifiy the workspace based on the -data parameter, the NWDS uses 1 <workspace> for local development and another one (<workspace>.jdi) for NWDI related developments.
On 700 the situation is different. There are 3 folders from which the workspace is only 1.
Besides workspace we also have the folders .dtr and .dtc and these are as default under the C:\Documents and Settings\<user> so if someone else logs on then he won't be able to reach these folders and this causes problems once you intend to work with NWDI related perspectives like the DTR or Development Configuration perspective.
You can use the below description since there is a mistake in the note 947581 that is describing this issue.
1)The first folder is the workspace.
You can set it up by editing the shortcut of NWDS in the following way:
<path to your IDE>\eclipse\SapIde.exe -vm "<JAVA_HOME>\bin\javaw.exe" -data "<workspace folder of a given user>"
(!Example!)
D:\JDT\eclipse\SapIde.exe -vm "D:\usr\j2sdk1.4.2_09\bin\javaw.exe" -data "D:/etc/JDIWorkspace/i030853"
2) The second folder (.dtc) can be changed by editing the file under <path of your IDE>\eclipse\plugins\com.sap.java.ide\plugin_customization.ini
Add the line at the end of the file com.sap.ide.eclipse.component.provider/configPoolRoot=<workspace folder of the given developer>
(!Example!) com.sap.ide.eclipse.component.provider/configPoolRoot=D:/etc/JDIWorkspace/i030853/.dtc
3)The third (.dtr) parameter can be changed in the file vm.parameters which is in case of NW04 and NW04S:
<path to your IDE>\eclipse\vm.parameters
Add a line at the end of the file:
-Dvfs.configfolder=<workspace of the given developer>\.dtr
(!Example!)
-Dvfs.configfolder=D:\etc\JDIWorkspace\i030853\.dtr
Let me rephrase: Everything I wrote here is valid only for release 70X and lower.
I hope this helps.
Best Regards,
Ervin -
We can use a single Citrix Terminal Server over Netlet without a problem.
Has anyone experience using a Terminal Server Farm instead of a single server?
What is the best approach?
- DNS round robin?
- Citrix configuration, i.e. load balancing?
- Netlet configuration?
- other?
Thanks,
Juergen, ThomasThomas,
There is an internal white paper from iPlanet Professional Services that
describes a technique for contacting a Citrix ICA Master browser which in
turn supports load balancing across a MetaFrame/Terminal Server Farm.
The gist of it was that the latest ICA clients support a new protocol
"TCPIP+HTTP" which gets around the UDP problem when contacting the browser.
And since the browser will return a different IP depending on which
MetaFrame server it selects, this was solved by use of the "altaddr" setting
that can be done on each MetaFrame server to set an alternate IP address
that will be forwarded through firewalls.
All of these settings are described in the Citrix Administrator's guide, but
the white paper puts it all together along with examples of how the Netlets
should be constructed.
I have not tried this yet myself, and unfortunately, I do not have the white
paper in electronic form right now to send to you.
Hopefully your iPlanet SE, or other tech support will be able to track this
down and send it to you.

I'm curious if anyone is using the Cisco Content switches to load balance traffic/sessions across a citrix server farm. Any luck and what type of load balancing method did you use? Round robin? Response time? And do these methods REALLY work with Citrix applications/servers for appropriate load balancing?
I just load balanced two Citrix servers using Cisco CSS11150 load balancing switches. Because Citrix uses login for each user, load balancing required stickyness. I load balanced using cookies. This works great. You need to configure the cookie string in the service. You need to configure prefix and length in the content rule. There are several ways to load balance using cookies. The server needs to set the cookie in the first reply back to the client.

Anyone have had this issue and know a work-around?Hi,
We are thinking about Citrix for a new customer. Could you share your experience?

I´m not very sure about this, and as it is quite expensive, I will like to know your experience.
