Re compt to tv hook up

I'm wanting to hook up my tv to my compt.  I want to use my big screen tv like a monitor and use the computer as normal, and i also want to be able to download movies to the computer and watch them on that screen?  My tv and my compt are compatible, my tv has a dvi connection and my computer has the capability to connect the cable directly to it.  I have a wireless router, and my cable modem are in another room.  I can easily run a cable from the back of the computer to the wireless router.  thats on the right track, right?  Then, in order to download and play movies from like netflix- does the tv bascially just run off of another video input? I also have a dvr hooked up to this tv- is there a way to incorporate all of this? i realize the compt has media center that can also record shows- could my dvr be replaced by just using this?  Any info would be appreciated and thanks a bunch!

do you want to hook up the television to the computer in addition to a standard monitor for the PC? or in place of?
to get video on the television, you'll want to run a DVI cable from the computer's video card output to the television input. set the television to the correct video input (maybe 'DVI' or 'PC' or something), and check if you get a signal. if you're also connected to a computer monitor at the same time, you may need to change the settings in windows to also display to the television.

  • I cant figure out why my HTC Droid DNA is no longer recognized by my computer when i hook it up with the USB cable that came with the phone.

I used to be able to just plug in my phone with the USB cable to my Windows 7 computer and browse phone storage with no issues. Now my computer sees it as an android phone but when it tries to automatically install the drivers for my phone on the computer, i get an access denied error message. No option on the phone that i can see that allows me to mount phone as a usb drive. This used to work just fine with nothing more than just hooking up the cable. What gives??

Let's get that access granted again, e_rock_b. The HTC DNA doesn't have a special USB Mass Storage Mode that needs to be turned on. Usually, it's as simple as connecting and browsing http://vz.to/1jktbZD as you mentioned. If your computer is no longer allowing that easy access, try the steps at http://vz.to/1jktvr6.

  • Screen goes black when hooking up to TV via mini-DVI to video adapter...

    Hello,
Ever since I upgraded my PB12" to 10.5.x (now running 10.5.5, but this issue has been there since upgrading to 10.5.1), when I hook up the mini-DVI to video adapter (different adapter than for hooking up to an external display as the mini-DVI to video adapter has composite and sVideo out) to my TV, the PB screen goes black. It's set up to mirror the PB on the TV, and the PB continues to run, picture works on the TV, but I loose picture on the PB. Only way to get it back is to reboot the PB (with the mini-DVI to video adapter unplugged). So, basically, if I try and use the mini-DVI to video adapter, I loose picture on the PB. This never happened under 10.4.x — only since upgrading to 10.5.x.
Anyone have this issue? Know of a fix?
    Thanks,
    Kristin.

If you connect the MacBook using a Mini DisplayPort to HDMI adapter you will probably need to use external speakers or a 3.5mm stereo headphone jack to RCA sound plugs connected to a stereo sound system if your TV doesn't have separate RCA input plugs or a 3.5mm stereo input plug for audio with the HDMI plug. The Mini DisplayPort to HDMI doesn't carry audio unless you have the Mid 2010 model 7,1 and there're no audio plugs on most TVs to work with HDMI since it's expecting audio with the HDMI.
If you have the Late 2008 model 5,1 Aluminum Unibody or Late 2009 model 6,1 White Unibody with the Mini DisplayPort rather than the Mini-DVI there is an adapter that can combine video and audio to HDMI.

First we need to know which one of the 9 different models of MacBook you have. To see which model you have go to the Apple in the upper left corner and select About This Mac, then click on More Info (and then System Report if you’re running 10.7 Lion). When System Profiler comes up check the Model Identifier and post it back here.
The Late 2008 model 5,1 Aluminum Unibody and the Late 2009 model 6,1 and Mid 2010 model 7,1 White Unibody have a Mini DisplayPort. The Early 2006 model 1,1 through Early 2008 model 4,1s plus the Early and Mid 2009 model 5,2s have Mini-DVI ports. Each would take a different adapter to connect with the TV.

  • What do i buy to hook up my ibook....

what do i buy to hook up my ibook g4 into my tv using the A/V plug??
do i hook up the --(Apple Mini-DVI to Video Adapter) to my ibook then hook up the --(Apple AV Cable for iBook) to the adapter??....
    thanks for the help...

You need to use the Apple Video Adapter M9109G/A to get a video signal.
Then you just need a male-to-male video patch cable to connect the adapter to your TV.

  • How can you hook up multiple camcorders for video shoot?

I'm making plans for my wedding and I was interested in recording it with stationary camcorders and my Macbook Pro's webcam of the event. I've hooked up my camcorder before as a additional webcam, but I have't recorded from multiple camera's before. This is importabt because I was also thinking of streaming the video from all 3 cameras online so friends and family could watch the event from out-of-town.
I was thinking I could use my Final Cut Pro software to bring the Camcorder footage in using firewire, but I'm not sure about the computers webcam.
I would really like any opinions and suggestions that don't require additonal purchases.
Any past experiences would be appreciated.

Hi, I don't know who to turn to: the person who handles all the compter stuff is out of town, This A.M.I started up Firefox and there was a message re an update, I thoght I new just to click on install and wait to re start Firefox. But what I can remember is that another window opened and asked me to choose 'something' (an icon or banner or?), I thought I must click something (I guess I should read all clearly). Firefox did update to 3.6.4, but it also inserted some sort of what might be called a banner? But it only partly covers the right one- half of my 3 toolbars at the top of the Firefox window. It can't be used for anything as it is just a mess of colors and unknowns, except what looks like a 'top' and what I recognize as a Firefox icon (but only partly visible)!! Now, what it does do is partly hide that whole portion of the toolbars and they are hard to read and in turn make this 'thing' impossible to figure out, if I would care to? I can't find anyway to remove it or use it?? But since the Firefox icon is on it, I guess you should know what it is and how to trash it. I am sorry for this occurrence caused my my carelessness, but I'm not much of a computer person ----HELP! Thank you for any help. Judi

  • How does everyone hook up there Sony Beta Deck to capture in FCP?

    Hello all,
I have a Sony Betacam SP UVW1800 and I am wondering how you hook it up to a Powermac G5 so I can start capturing some footage ... I am assuming that I need to get some kind of converter to firewire. Any suggestions??
    Thanks in advance

    G4   Mac OS X (10.2.x)

I use an AJA Io for uncompressed capture, and I think it is really great. It does a fantastic job with the transcoding to any SD format and has been pretty much bulletproof. I would concur with Greg Jio that AJA's technical support is excellent. I have had highly educational exchanges with then evey time I have needed support.
As far as a solution that provides component input and RS-422 deck control, it's the only one I have experience with, but I highly recommend AJA solutions.
Keep in mind that working with uncompressed video requires fast drives and more stoarge space. I use a FW 800 external RAID, or an internal SATA RAID, and have heard that uncompressed will also work fine on "soft RAIDs" such as you can create by simply formatting a set of drives inside your Mac Pro case without a dedicated RAID controller card.

  • How to hook up a Linksys WRT54G to Motorola NVG589. PLEASE HELP!

Hello,  I have recently switched over to AT&T Uverse and I am loving it. One thing I miss is having extra ethernet ports to plug in my desktop computer and my Xbox 360. When the Uverse technician came in, he installed a Motorola NVG589 modem that also has a built in wireless router. He also installed a VAP2500 as a receiver for 2 wireless TV boxes. The VAP2500 plugs into the back of the Motorola NVG589. 3 other TV boxes are plugged into the back as well.  My dilemma is the fact that all of the ports are being taken up. I need at least 2 more ethernet ports free so I can hook up my Xbox 360 (my model doesn't have built in wifi) and my desktop computer as well.  I told the technician this when he installed the system and he told me to go on ebay and buy 2 cheap splitters and split 2 TV boxes that are coming into the NVG589. I did so. It didn't work out. I called up AT&T and the guy over the phone said that was the worst thing I could've done. He told be I should buy an ethernet switch.  I had my Linksys WRT54G (Version 6) router laying around at the time and realized that it had a built in ethernet switch. I want to get this to also function as another Wifi hotspot because I have an old PowerMac G4 downstairs that won't connect to the NVG589 for some reason (it says connection timeout). I am guessing that the wifi card in the system may be too old to connect to the modern NVG589.  So, I need the 2 extra ethernet ports and another Wifi hotspot from this setup. I have tried multiple things to get this to work.  The closest way I could get it to work was when I plugged an ethernet cable from the LAN port on the WRT54G to port on the back of the NVG589. I then plugged the TV box ethernet cable I had to disconnect into the second LAN port on the WRT54G as well as plugging my Xbox 360 into the 3rd LAN port and my computer into the 4th LAN port. This worked great for the TV box and the Xbox 360. However, the computer's ethernet connection ran very slow and the WIfi from the WRT54G was very slow as well. The Wifi from the NVG589 was slow too.  I unhooked that setup and put it back to what it was beforehand.  Is there anyone that knows of a flawless way of setting this up?  Any articles someone can link me to? I've heard of bridging the NVG589...would that help me? How exactly would I do that? Please HELP. I have attached pics. On the back of the NVG589 - green ethernet is the DSL cable, both white ethernet cables along with the black one are TV boxes and the yellow ethernet cable is the VAP 2500.  Thanks!

This will perform a "factory" reset. When the Linksys is fully rebooted, log in to the Linksys. Do not configure the "Internet Connection Type" on the Linksys. Navigate to the "Wireless" section on the Linksys and configure the wireless. Do not use the same SSID (wireless network name) that the NVG589 uses. Save changes. Navigate to the "LAN" configuration on the Linksys and set the routers address to 192.168.1.1 and disable the DHCP Server. Save changes. This step will kick you out of the router. Power down your computer and the Linksys, run an Ethernet cable from a LAN port on the NVG589 to a LAN port on the Linksys, then power up the Linksys, and when it's fully rebooted, power up your computer. You should be good to go at this point. You will want to individually configure your wireless devices to use either the wireless network from the NVG or the wireless network from the Linksys. Otherwise they make keep jumping back and forth between the two, which will degrade performance for that device. You may still notice a slight to moderate performance drop for the wireless on both the NVG and the Linksys because they will be competing for the same wireless airspace along with the VAP2500.

  • How do I hook my Keyboard up to my computer to use it as a MIDI controller?

Ok, I'm new to MACS and new to LOGIC. I just installed logic and all of its components on my IMAC. OSX 10.6.3 Once I installed everything, I tried to hook up my electric piano to use it as a MIDI controller. Mind you, I am also completely new to MIDI. My Piano is a KORG sp-300. I used an Alesis Audio Link USB- MIDI cable to connect my keyboard directly to a usb port in my MAC. I hooked up the midi side of the connector to the midi in and out on my keyboard, and plugged in the usb side to the computer. I then went to the Audio Midi set up, and looked in the midi studio, and there was the USB2MIDI(which is associated with the Alesis cord, and not my Korg piano) and the IAC driver from MAC. I checked so that both are online, and didn't change any of the other settings. I did a test set up, but when I played notes on the keyboard nothing happened.
So now when I open Logic, or garage band for that matter, it doesn't recognize that I have a midi controller hooked up. When I look in midi preferences in garageband, it says that there are 2 midi devices detected. In logic it says that there is no input or output.
I read the manual for LOGIC and for my Korg, and I am lost. Korg says that it transmits on 1 channel, automatically set to channel 1 if not adjusted, and receives on 16. If I am correct, right now I am not interested in receiving, only transmitting.
At this point, I just want to select a software instrument in Logic, play my Korg, and see notes(or MIDI data) appear in the arrange area. I don't know what's going on, but again, I am completely lost.
Could someone please help me here? Am I missing an obvious step? Like I said, I am new to all of this, so please let me know if you have any idea how to get my midi controller to work. It says in the Korg manual that it can be used as a controller, or a multitimbral tone generator. And I did switch the Local Off.
By the way, who would be best to call to solve this issue. MAC? Sweetwater(where I bought the Alesis cord, and Logic)? Or Korg?
Please let me know if you have any helpful advice.
    Thanks,
    Tristan

    Pancenter,
Thanks for the response, but I do not have a midi interface. I am using a midi to usb connector cable, thus bypassing the need for a Midi interface.
The Mac reads the USB cable as a midi device, but not the keyboard that I am trying to use as a controller. I have tried it with my korg sp 300 and with my Nord Electro 2.
    Thoughts?
    Thanks,

    Tristan...
This is what you have, correct?
    http://www.alesis.com/usbmidicable
    This from Alesis..
"The AudioLink Series USB cable receives and outputs MIDI signal thanks to its internal interface. The USB-MIDI Cable connects plug-and-play to your Mac or PC for an all-in-one USB-MIDI solution."
Notice, -internal interface-. What you have is a simple USB MIDI Interface. Most MIDI interfaces are USB.
My point is (was), MIDI OUT of the Korg goes to the connector marked MIDI IN on the Alesis, those new to MIDI often get this wrong.

  • EA6500 - USB Control center - Could not find router when hooked up wirelessly

Not sure if this is the right place but I felt it should be posted somewhere on the internet.
I recently purchased a Linksys EA6500. I decided to try to hookup my printer through the it. I installed the USB Control Center and had some issues with it. It wouldn't detect my router. All I would get is "A compatible router with USB port was not found on your network".
When I hooked up my laptop to the ethernet port I was then able to get a connection to the router with the software. If I left my Wireless connection on while I did this I would unplug my computer ethernet the USB Control Center remained connected until I closed the software. When I reopened it could not see the router again. I tried on another laptop and it was working correctly.
At this point I started my research into the software and noticed in the help menu 2 things.
    1) the software was made by belkin
    2) they had other thing hooked up including keyboard and mice
    http://i.imgur.com/6NAQ5Jv.png
With this information I decided to try to make troubleshooting a bit easier by using a Lenovo Multimedia Remote with Keyboard N5902. I tried it on the second laptop that had no problems first and it kinda worked. The keyboard part worked and the mouse didn't. So I went to the computer that had issues connecting hooked it up via eithernet to test and I blue screened it. The dump file said the "AMD USB Filter Driver" crashed.
This lead me to 3 areas I need to troubleshoot on this laptop.
    1) USB Control center
    2) My Wireless adaptor (Atheros AR9285)
    3) USB Drivers
First thing I did was troubleshoot the AMD USB Filter since that did blue screen. The USB drivers on this computer are a mess. I have the standard A6 chipset drivers, the vmplayer virtualized usb drivers and then the virtual drivers for the USB Control Center. I updated what I could (Still crashed) and in the end used the Catalyst Install Manager to remove the AMD USB Filter driver and the Lenovo N5902 kinda started to work. On this computer the Mouse part worked and not the computer. Not worried because I did not have to run to the printer (wasting paper) and router all the time to keep troubleshooting.
The next thing I did was update my wireless drivers since it was the wireless portion that was having issue and not the ethernet. This did not work.
Finally I came back to the USB Control Center software. The Driver it is using is called "SXUPTP Driver" in the System Devices catagory. There were no downloads availible on the Linksys site for the software so I went to belkin and downloaded there latest version. I installed it and had the same issue. can detect the router wired but not wireless. I then look to the Driver manufacturer, Silex Technologies. They had no product called USB Control Center. Googled SXUPTP and a Microsoft page refed to "SX Virtual Link" made by Silex.
    http://silexamerica.com/campaign/sx-virtual-link-downloads/
I extracted the drivers and installed them. USB Control center still has the same problem. Installed SX Virtual Link software and it works.
    http://i.imgur.com/7wSEq8i.png
It works really well. I decided to hook up a USB Hub and put on different devices to see what I can do. The only Disapointment was the Microsoft Lifecam Cinema was not found. If did find a few other random things.
    http://i.imgur.com/aBI66jY.png
The only downside is that With the USB hub the router can no longer find USB storage devices to act like a nas. I'm ok with that since I did not like the idea of router in control of internet data sharing. I am ok with the fact that I can still hook up a thumbdrive via SX Virtual Link. In fact thumb drive not reconized by the usb storage in the router can be used via the SX Virtual Link. What I'm looking at now is hooking up an external DVD drive to it for devices that do not have drives. SX Virtual Link DOes reconized when a device is in use by a computer running USB Control center. there is no compatibility uses.
I am using Windows 7 64bit on an hp laptop with an A6 chipset connected wirelessly to an EA6500 router.
In short if you are having issues with USB Control center and your other drivers are up to date then just try the SX Virtual Link.
I felt this neede to go somewhere on the net.

Great Advice and solution Rob, it is working with your advice.
    Thanks

  • Hooking up Airport Express for the first time

    Hi -
Like many others, I just can't seem to figure out how to hook up my AirPort Express (802.11n). Here is how I am currently set up ...
In the basement I have a Mac Mini hooked up to an ActionTec GT701-WG wireless router (from Qwest), but I am usually working on my MacBook Pro (2.5 GHz running OS 10.5.6) on the second floor. I get good signal strength in a few rooms of the second floor, but not the entirety.
I was thinking that by buying an Airport Express I could improve my connectivity to include the entire second floor of my house as well as wirelessly access a printer and speakers up here.
Here is what I have done ...
I added the Media Access Control number I pulled off the Express itself to the Access Control List on the ActionTec router.
Plugging in the Airport Express results in a blinking amber light (I do not have a printer or speakers plugged into the AirPort Express at this time). At this point, scanning for wireless devices in the AirPort Utility finds nothing. I then poke the reset button on the Express with a paperclip (while it is still plugged into the wall) until I get quick amber flashes and then it resets to the regular blinking amber, but the device is then discoverable by Airport Utility.
I am then able to walk through the subsequent set up steps ..
    1. switch network;
    2. enter a new password;
    3. check "I have a wireless network and want to add AirPort Express or replace an existing device on my network";
    4. check "I want AirPort Express to wirelessly join my current network";
    5. type in name of network and select WEP security and input password (I am unsure what WEP I use, but have a ten digit alphanumeric password and have tried the configuration with all three WEP possibilities with the same result each time).
It then attempts to restart the AirPort Express, but results in the error message that it was unable to find the device.
I'm now stymied. I've been reading through other posts for a few days but never quite seem to find the solution to my problem ... or even the next thing to try. I would greatly appreciate any help anyone could offer.
    Thanks in advance,

Is there something different than the process I described going through above?
Yes. As I mentioned in my earlier reply, you can use the AirPort Utility's "Assist Me" feature to have the AXn join your ActionTec router. Once configured the AXn will both share any USB printer connected to it and support streaming iTunes.
AirPort Utility was the only set up I was able to use. There is also an "AirPort Setup Assistant for Graphite and Snow" application, but when opened it says that the appropriate hardware was not found (which I don't understand, because I am using an AirPort Card to connect to the internet right now, aren't I?).
The AirPort Setup Assistant for Graphite and Snow was provided by Apple to replace the earlier AirPort Setup Assistant. This updated version only supports the earlier 802.11b Graphite & Snow base stations, NOT the newer 802.11n versions like your AXn. Instead, you must use the newer AirPort Utility to administer it. This newer utility has both a "automatic" and "manual" modes available for administration.
What might be confusing is that Apple also calls the built-in wireless card in its Macs an AirPort. This wireless card, like its PC equivalent, let's you access wireless network ... like the one created by the ActionTec ... and why you are connecting to the Internet now.
Sorry. I expected the AX to be a little more plug and play than it turned out to be and I don't relish the idea of paying somebody a lot of money to come install it for me.
Actually it would have been if your requirement was to have it be your only router, but since you already have an existing one, a bit of administration is required to get it working properly. Of course, familiarity with the AirPort Utility would have helped. That's why Apple provided the "Assist Me" mode to take you through the necessary set up steps.
Do you think I am better off trying to resell this and try something else?
If what you really need is to extend the wireless range of your ActionTec, then yes you would probably be better off with some other option, but if printer sharing/iTunes streaming will meet your needs, then I would say your best bet is to keep it.
