Re-configuring network services - after permanently removing serverfrom Tree

We have a company that has left our network, and we're
preparing to remove its server and related objects
from our Tree.
Including this server, we have five NetWare 6.5 servers.
All are on their own boxes, except for our GWIA/WebAccess
server, which is on a Virtual machine. Three servers, including
the one being removed are File Servers, the remaining two are
Application Servers related to GroupWise.
Our two GroupWise servers share the same Context, but all our
other servers (including the one being removed) are in their
own Context. All Contexts are directly below our one Tree.
The server being removed has a Read/Write Replica, serves as a
Primary Time Source and an SLPDA.
Of our remaining four servers:
- One is a Reference Time Source with a Read/Write Replica
- One is a Primary Time Source and SLPDA with a Master Replica
- One has our GroupWise POA and a Secondary GWIA running
- One has our Primary GWIA and WebAccess running
....for our two GroupWise-related servers, Directory Services
were removed to improve performance.
The number of network users should be down to about 250-350 users.
What would be the best practice recommended for handling Directory
Services, Time Source, and SLPDA's in the above scenario?
- Should we add back, Directory Services to one of our GroupWise servers
(providing a third server containing a Replica)?
- Should we add a second Primary Time Source to one of our GroupWise
servers?
- Are there any problems running a second SLPDA to a GroupWise server?
Thanks,
Steve

  • Can't configure Reporting Services after installation

    Reporting services was installed for me by admins with "install but don't configure" option.  My domain account is a member of local administrators group, but when I open Reporting Services configuration manager, I can't go to any of the tabs
    other than the Service Account one.  The Web Service URL and Database tabs are grayed out and inaccessible.
    Any ideas?

    Hello,
    In addition to above: make sure that Exchange 2013 is installed correctly. Check Exchange installation logs and run the Get-ExchangeServer command using Exchange Management Shell on the new server. You should see both Exchange 2010 and Exchange 2013 servers.
    Hope it helps,

  • Disruptions in network service after iOS7.1 update

    Ever since iOS7.1 update on my iPhone 5, the 4G LTE icon has disappeared from the homepage. The 3G and 1x signals are spotty (at best). At times, I can't not hear the dial tone when dialing out. At times, I can't not hear the voice of caller when I slide to pick up the call. I brought these issues to 2 sales managers at a local coporate VZ store, none were helpful. The issues seemed non-existent when I was inside the store, but they persist after leaving the vicinity. I never had these issues with the previous iOS version. The sales managers seem clueless with the issues and try to chalk it up with VZ "service line" and then suggest for me to call VZ customer service hotline to work around the issue. I'm extremely not happy with the level of indifference I received from these so-called managers. It looks like I'd no longer be a VZ customer anytime soon.

    I tried your chat - it was booked, no one available to help.  You also took away the *228 option yet it's still on your website as am option.
    My issue is that phone calls from my house do not go through or if they manage to connect, they drop.  If I stand outside my house I have better luck.  I know you can check our lines to see all this.  This problem started a couple of weeks ago.  Nothing has changed at our end.  Nothing.

  • After sql server 2012 installation, I have changed sql server database engine service account from network service user to system user. What is disadvantages of this process?

         After
     sql server 2012 installation, I   attached my production db. Because of some reasons, i
     changed sql engine account from network service user to system user by means of sql server configuration manager.
         Now , there isn’t
     a problem at sql server running system.  But
    I have doubts that
     this can produce problems later. Because  sql server database engine account must have privileges that listed below;
    Log on as a service (SeServiceLogonRight)
    Replace a process-level token (SeAssignPrimaryTokenPrivilege)
    Bypass traverse checking (SeChangeNotifyPrivilege)
    Adjust memory quotas for a process
    (SeIncreaseQuotaPrivilege)
    Permission to start SQL Writer
    Permission to read the Event Log service
    Permission to read the Remote Procedure Call service
     While sql server installation, setup gives these
     privileges to network service user automatically, but changing user by means of sql confugarition manager does not give these
    privileges.
    Now, system user has privileges listed below. And sql server has been running for 1,5 months without any problems.
    Log on as a service (SeServiceLogonRight)
         Bypass traverse checking
    (SeChangeNotifyPrivilege) (Everyone user has his privileges. So i think that system user has this privilege also)
    What problems can occur because of this situation? Shall i give other privileges to system user and restart sql server or not? And how can i give these privileges to system user listed below;
    Replace a process-level token (
    this can be set from user rights assignments)
    Adjust memory quotas for a process
    (this can be set from user rights assignments)
    Permission to start SQL Writer (
    ? - give advice )
    Permission to read the Event Log service (
    ? - give advice )
    Permission to read the Remote Procedure Call service (
    ? - give advice )

     Our server is  windows server 2008 r2 enterprise edition. I have looked the bunch of permissions in user rights menu  that is in local security policy settings gui.
    And i have seen those permissions below were not granted to system user;
    Bypass traverse checking (SeChangeNotifyPrivilege)
    Adjust memory quotas for a process
    (SeIncreaseQuotaPrivilege)
    So, briefly you say, don't panic ?

  • [Solved] SystemD, how to start a service after network is up.

    Hello,
    I'm recently involved to set up a daemon which should be ready after boot (aria2). Then it fails, as it fails minidlna as well.
    The reason is that they try to come up but there's no host to talk to. See this page.
    For my purposes, it should be good when the daemons find the necessary to stay alive (even they won't have a network fully ready, that may happen in less than a minute later). For minidlna is needed a valid IP which could be 127.0.0.1 or localhost, for aria2 it may be same or just looking for a RPC binding.
    This what the logs are telling me.
    I was trying to set more dependencies in the service, but even to set
    After=wpa_supplicant.service
    it doesn't have effect.
    I don't find a solution, as far as my knowledge spans. Another chance would take to set a systemD timer and when that will be gone to start the daemon. Sorry but I don't know much about that.
    Looking for someone here to guide to right direction.
    TIA

    WonderWoofy wrote:It depends on what network management utility you use and therefore also how you connect.  If you are using an ethernet connection, you could just use dhcpcd@<interface>.service.  This is a very simple service, and the network.target will not be reached until the IP address and connectivity is established.
    Meanwhile some good suggestion (like yours) came up, I've tried a couple of recipes. But  dhcpcd.service didn't get it right. Maybe dhcpcd@<interface>.service, would work, I'll see later.
    I got this working:
    [Unit]
    Description=aria2 Service
    Requires=network.target
    After=dhcpcd.service
    [Service]
    Type=forking
    User=aria2
    Group=aria2
    EnvironmentFile=/etc/conf.d/aria2.conf
    WorkingDirectory=/var/aria2
    ExecStart=/usr/bin/aria2c $ARIACMD
    ExecReload=/usr/bin/kill -HUP $MAINPID
    RestartSec=1min
    Restart=on-failure
    [Install]
    WantedBy=multi-user.target
    You may note the After=dhcpcd.service, but it doesn't work. I found RestartSec=1min ,Restart=on-failure more effective and perhaps less blocking to wait for the network to be ready. As a server this  should be a small issue, very seldom compared with the running time. We (family members) can accept a little wait for the service to be on.
    Exactly I don't know which of the two is the right solution, maybe the delay is the right one.
    I was doing a cron scheduled job, before using systemd  boot, which was kicking minidlna every 5 minutes, since it was dieing often. I didn't discover what was the reason.
    I think I'll have to study another recipe which sets up a timer and keep an eye on these two services, for the long term service. But even cron would suffice, I think.
    WonderWoofy wrote:if you are using wireless, the only two real solutions would be to use netctl@<profile>.service, which too won't reach the network.target until a conplete connection is made
    Yes I'm on wireless network and the interface plugged on USB . My intent should go beyond any particular configuration. Maybe because I'd like to show a working setup, which may fit for all configuration (90 % )
    I have to admit that the actual solution do not care much whether the network is found, so I hope to get a smarter setup that counts on the necessary tools before try something. However it's proved that they fail when no connection to the router is done. But I'm preferring that they succeed.
    WonderWoofy wrote: NetworkManager gets around this by implementing an additional service called (unimaginatively) NetworkManager-wait-online.service, which is pulled in automatically when you enable NetowrkManager.service.
    As I stated above I'm expecting a solution that won't pull in so much dependencies. Even NM is my connection manager, on the server.
    WonderWoofy wrote:
    You probably also want to use Requisite=aria2c.service on the minidlna.service as well.  This too means that it will be started after aria2c, but that it will not start at all if it is not running or fails.
    Additionally, you could try using the Requisite configuration on the minidnla, while setting the aria2c to restart itself on failure.  So that it will keep trying, and once it does, then minidlna will start.
    looks like a dog biting the tail . It's much preferable a separated failure, just in case.
    WonderWoofy wrote:Edit: Also, it is not SystemD.  It is systemd (like other "daemon" binaries in *nix).
    I'm quite sure I saw it somewhere, none of my inventions

  • SharePoint adding, then removing Network Service to local groups

    After upgrading our two server farm to SharePoint 2010, SP2, April 2014 CU, we've noticed activity in our event log when the Timer Service restarts daily and when FIM syncs run.  It looks like SharePoint is adding the Network Service account to
    the local groups IIS_IUSRS and WSS_WPG, then removing it a little later on.
    Does anyone know why this happens?  Is it expected activity or a bug with the version we are running?
    Thanks in advance for your time- Rob

    Hi Rob,
    According to your description, my understanding is that you want to know why SharePoint adds and removes the Network Service account to local groups.
    Per the thread below, it seems like it is an internal SharePoint process and SharePoint adds this user as a test to validate whether it has the rights necessary to add users to local groups.

    Thanks but I don't think this will help. Like I said, all of my add-ons were working fine and compatible until after running a previous version of FF. I am sure they are still compatible, but they are not working at all.
    I even checked my profile folder and all of the extensions' data is all still there but FF5 is just not reading it correctly. (like adblock plus... I see the folder for it but FF5 doesn't have it on the add-on manager page when I run FF5)

    my 3gs has no service after updating from ios 5 tried resetting network settings, resetting all settings and restoring from back up on itunes.
    telus cant find any network problems and apple is difficult to deal with.please help 3 weeks with no phone and $70 a month not happy.

    I have been having a similar problem for the last few days.Without warning the signal will just completely duck out leaving the device searching for several minutes before settling on a no signal message.
    Sometimes restarting the device, toggling data and 3g settings or toggling Airplane Mode will set things right. However, a lot of the time I've been left without a working phone.
    I don't believe this is a SIM issue, as I had to change my SIM only one month ago for another signal related problem. Again any help would be appreciated here as well.

    So, what I have and what I've done:.
    1) I have a test 2-servers farm installation (Database server + WFE/Application server); SQL Server 2008 R2 SP2, SHP 2010 SP1 + October 2012 CU; There are no any service applications except default ones(Security Token Service and Application Discovery
    and Load Balancer Service Application) as well as there are  no any services started except default :)
    2) I created a site collection and manage path for MySites, created a new UPA and its proxy.
    That's all. Now, if I try starting User Profiles Synchronization Service, it stucks on "starting" for about 10 mins and I see the error above in ULS. Hope you can somehow help me.
    By the way, I don't want a both sides synchronization this time, I just need to check some stuff with People Search. Will "Read" rights for Managed Account in AD be enough to export profiles from AD? (I mean if I select my farm account as a synchronization
    account, will it work?)
    Thank's in advance!
    Anton.
    UPDATED
    The problem probably was due to the lack of internet access. As Raymond
    Diack said:
    "the farm account needs internet access to do a CRL check to these sites:
    crl.microsoft.com
    ctldl.windowsupdate.com
    ctldl.windowsupdate.nsatc.net

  • Network problems after update; system reinstall not fixing it.

    Hello, first post here ^^
    Sorry if I write with a bit of engrish. I'm very tired ^^"
    My brother's laptop, a Portuguese Classmate PC (aka "Magalhães", version MG2 -- unfortunately, I can't find the corresponding international version, but have a picture) doesn't has any network at all, be it wired or wireless, with the updates of 3/August/2011 installed. I think the problem is udev.
    I have no problems when using an installation media, at least for wired network.
    Even after reinstalling, I still have no network.
    Wired
    The problem with wired, is that the eth0 interface is gone. Have tried network and NetworkManager, and it's just gone. In the output of ifconfig I only have the loopback interface (and would have wlan0, if I had the firmware for the wireless card installed).
    Wired problem solved! Sorry, I actually searched the Internet for a solution and couldn't find anything useful, and only now noticed there's already a thread here about it. I should have searched this forum, instead of the Internet... sorry!
    Wireless
    Previously, I only had to install the rtl8192se chipset drivers from AUR.
    But now, with the latest updates, the kernel [size=1](or the udev, I don't know which it is)[/size]was constantly giving me errors through tty, regarding to wifi. It could scan for networks, but not connect. I have tried with WPA and no security, result was the same.

  • Windows VPN clients can't use network servers after 10.5.1 upgrade

    We have two Xserves, both formerly running 10.4.11. One is the OD master, the other a replica. The replica is also the VPN server, and is a DHCP server for the small number of IP addresses reserved for VPN clients.
    The OD master upgrade went fine. I completely reinstalled the OD replica, set the replica up again, and set up the VPN server. It supports L2TP/IPsec connections only.
    After the upgrade, Mac users running Tiger or Leopard can connect to the VPN server and connect to network services without any problems. Windows users can connect, but cannot actually USE anything on my office network. For example, if you try to connect to a web server either by fully qualified domain name or by hostname, the connection from the browser simply times out.
    In the Windows command line I can verify that I have an active connection by pinging and using the tracert command (equivalent of traceroute on UNIX). Hostname resolution works, too. But nothing happens when you try to open a web browser, which is mostly what my users need to do.
    It doesn't matter whether you're logging in with an OD user account or a local account defined solely on the VPN server. Same behavior in Windows.
    I had to take an older XServe running 10.4.11 out of our data center, move it to the office, and set it up on the same external network connection. 10.4.11 server works, 10.5.1 doesn't, from the same Windows client, set up exactly the same way.
    I've been through the hoops with Apple Enterprise support, who now tell me that Engineering kicked it back to them and told them they'd charge me $695 to get it fixed, because it's ostensibly custom configuration work. If that's true, why is Windows XP listed under L2TP/IPSec support on page 127 of the Leopard Network Services Admin guide? I don't want a custom fix, I just want it to work the way it's supposed to work. Or I want Apple to retract the claim that OS X Server is the best workgroup server solution for Macs and Windows.
    Anyone else encounter this problem or know of a fix?

    Had the same problems, started after i tried out the firewall in Leopard server.
    Seems that not all settings are reset even after turning the firewall off.
    To reset the firewall to its default setting:
    1 Disconnect the server from the Internet.
    2 Restart the server in single-user mode by holding down the Command-s keys during
    startup.
    3 Remove or rename the address groups file found at /etc/ipfilter/
    ipaddressgroups.plist.
    4 Remove or rename the ipfw configuration file found at /etc/ipfilter/ipfw.conf.
    5 Force-flush the firewall rules by entering the following in Terminal:
    $ ipfw -f flush
    6 Edit the /etc/hostconfig file and set IPFILTER=-YES-.
    7 Complete the startup sequence in the login window by entering exit:
    The computer starts up with the default firewall rules and firewall enabled. Use Server
    Admin to refine the firewall configuration.
    8 Log in to your server’s local administrator account to confirm that the firewall is
    restored to its default configuration.
    9 Reconnect your host to the Internet.
    This solved the problem for me...

  • How configure reporting services configuration with sql server business development studio

    I have installed sql server 2008 r2 mixed mode(sql server authentication) with native mode
    I want to run report using reporting  services config manager.
    I made report in ssrs and I have configured reporting services configuration and  web url from RSCM( reporting  services config manager), i put on ssrs report.
    report is build and deployed but when i take deployed url on Internet explorer, it shows the window below:
    when I put the password nothing happened . if I put url in google chrome then it shows authentication required window like the same in IE
    if I passed username=(levent/sa) and password then goes on window but does not see on page,  if I passed only administrator name (levent) not passed sql server login name (sa) then does not close 'Authentication window'
    'Computer connect net with modem'
    before i tried on earlier PC, it worked fine.
    setting is below link like this.
    only set service Account is Use_built=NetworkSrvice

    http://www.azurecurve.co.uk/2012/02/how-to-configure-sql-server-reporting-services-in-order-to-deploy-reporting-services-reports-in-gp/
    what is the problem
    Plz give suggestion quickly

    Hi tusharshinde,
    Per my understanding that when you log in the report Manager you got the pop-up window ask for credential, you try to enter  the SA account and the window account as the username and password but both not work, right?
    Your issue related to the authentication. As you mentioned you have choose the ”Network Service” as the Service account, generally using this account in RSCM and RSWindowsNegotiate is added to the RSReportServer.config file as the default setting. With this
    setting, the report server can accept requests from client applications requesting Kerberos or NTLM authentication. If Kerberos is requested and the authentication fails, the report server switches to NTLM authentication and prompts the user for credentials
    unless the network is configured to manage authentication transparently.
    The issue can be caused by many factors and please check one by one.
    Did you enter the username and password for three times and got blank page or got some error? If you got some error, please provide the error information.
    you can delete the specific Authorization Types inside rsreportserver.config  file, open path:” \Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSRS10_50.MSSQLSERVER\Reporting Services\ReportServer\rsreportserver.config”.
    Search the file for the “AuthenticationTypes” section. Remove RSWindowsNegotiate and RSWindoeBasic to ensure only “RSWindowsNTLM” is specified in the file rsreportserver.config file.
    Before do any modification, back up the files and remember to restart the ReportServer instance in the RSCM after the modification.
    If step1 doesn’t work ,please also do the trusted Site Setting in the Browser, article with details steps for your reference:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb630430.aspx
    Please check the Report Manager's authentication mode.Have a look in the Report Manager's web.config file to check if you can find below information under the <system.web> (Path is “C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSRS10_50.MSSQLSERVER\Reporting
    Services\ReportManager\Web.config ” ).
    authentication mode="Windows"
    identity impersonate="True"

    Please tried to provide us more details information, if the problem still exists:
    Did you login in the report manager locally or remotely via Browser and which URL you are using to login the Report manager?
    Did you modified some configuration file before and what did you modified?
    Did your windows account have the right permission to access the report manager?
    Any problem, please feel free to ask.
