Re-connecting missing files.

For years my wife and I have shared a computer; she puts her pictures in Windows Picture Viewer and I put mine in PSE. This has always caused problems, but now ALL my pictures are "Missing", some 5,000 of them. It would take forever to "re-connect" them. Is there a quicker way? Can I re-install PSE 9? Should I forget using one computer for her pictures AND mine? I do have all the photos backed up on flash drives, and most of mine are also on photoshop's online backup. Should I start fresh with another computer just for mine, or can Windows Picture Viewer and PSE ever co-exist amiably on the same computer? My wife doesn't want to deal with PSE at all; she just looks at her pictures and e-mails them, and I don't want hers (they're all of dolls) cluttering up my catalog.
Thanks

I doubt that Windows Picture Viewer is the problem. And it sounds to me like you have two problems: 1) your photos have gotten disconnected from your catalog, and 2) her photos are in your catalog.
For the second problem, make sure the options are set in PSE to add photos only when you tell it to. (I'm still on PSE7, so I won't try to list the options.) You can delete her photos from your catalog without affecting the actual photos -- just don't check the box to delete from disk. That should solve the problem. (I'm assuming that she is not intentionally altering or re-organizing YOUR photos, which I think is what photodrawken assumed. If she is, then set up separate Windows users -- see below.)
For the first problem, it sounds like you (or perhaps she) renamed or moved the folder containing all your photos, and did it outside PSE. This could even happen if you changed to a different Windows user name. The solution is to undo the folder rename or move, and do it from PSE. When you initiate the rename or move from inside PSE, PSE updates the catalog. When you do it from Windows Explorer, PSE doesn't get the message.
In general, if two people have conflicts in the way they use a computer, they don't have to get two computers, unless the conflict is that they want to use the computer at the same time!  Just set up two Windows users. This keeps the files separate. If the conflict is over too little disk space, upgrade the HD or the computer.

  • RE-CONNECT MISSING FILE

IT SEEMS THAT I HAVE TO RECONNECT MISSING FILES CONSTANTLY, ANY IDEA TO STOP THIS OR TO BATCH RECONNECT ?

We accidentally deleted some important photos in Photoshop Album Starter Edition 3.0. We didn't realize the mistake until it was too late--the only thing left is the thumbnails, found after a system restoration. The thumbnails don't point to anything though, because the actual photo files have been lost. Does anyone have any ideas about what I can do with these thumbnails? Where are the thumbnails actually stored on my computer, I can't find them? Is there any way to convert these thumbnails into a decent quality file that I can print hard copies of? They are very special--my dad's funeral, sister's wedding, and pics from the World Series 2006. Thanks

  • Re connect missing files

After a hard drive crash I have re-installed LR5 and it regards all my images as missing files.
I have about 80,000 in a hard drive called Photo Library Working, and that is also where my catalogue lives and also a file called Previews.lrdata.
All images come up with the "missing" message, and several thousand show a plain grey blank for an image. However I notice that in the Collections area, the images show up, but are still missing.
Metadata and keywords appear OK. I see there is also a second catalogue file with only 60,000 of the same images, and that behaves in the same manner.
I would prefer these two catalogues were one, and that I could access all images, the smaller cat seems to lack images from the last year or so, obviously I made a mistake somehwere there, but that should be irrelevant to the current problem.
I have followed "find missing files" instructions in LR help and it has not worked, nor has my LR4 book by Martin Evening helped nor has any other on-line advice or personal contact with other photographers. My George Jardine tutorials dont seem to help either.
I do not want to have to start from scratch  with my backed up RAW files as it take more than the rest of my life to do that.
I have been trying to find the adobe chat support people who helped me down load the new LR5 program a couple of weeks ago, but adobe help seems to take me round in circles for hours and bring me back to the start without ever helping me find them.
    I need help.

  • MISSING FILES/RE-CONNECT FILES

About3 weeks ago I installed Photoshop 11 on my MacBook Air and everything seemed to be going OK ... I imported old Photoshop Elements 3 files and organized them into albums.
Recently most of the thumbnails are showing a question mark (?) in the corner and I'm getting messages about missing files and trying to re-connect missing files.
What's going on and how do I fix it?
    Thanks

No screenshot showed up. How many catalogs are listed when you do the "Manage Catalogs" and which of the 3 locations for catalogs is check off?
When you do "information" on a picture with a question mark, where does it say it is?

  • I've lost the majority of the connections between my projects and items in the library (showing up as "missing files"). I've moved nothing. How can I reconnect? The items show up as missing in the library as well as in the "movie".

I am using the version 10.0.9 which might have been an automatic upgrade from my original version.
The majority of my connections between library items has been lost. The items show up as missing files both in the library and when I run my project. How can I re-estabish these connections?

Did you try using the relink function?

  • TS1424 im apparently missing file:MSVCR80.dll to be able to connect with itunes?!

Why do suddenly im missing file MSVCR80.dll, to access itunes???

Click here and follow the instructions. You may need to completely remove and reinstall iTunes and all related components, or run the process multiple times; this won't normally affect its library, but that should be backed up anyway.

  • Spotlight Indexing, Systemstats, Missing File, All After Mavericks Upgrade

    Dear Mac Support Communities,
The upgrade to OS X 10.9.4 has crippled my computer.
My main question is: should I reformat, or should I wait for a patch to come out to solve whatever is wrong with Mavericks? I explain below.
Spotlight is constantly indexing. The mdworker is all over the place on the Activity Monitor—4% and then it explodes to 85% of CPU usage. Systemstats kicks in randomly (connected to spotlight perhaps?) and eats up 90% of my CPU and 3gigs of RAM. Time Machine takes AGES to backup.
I have not been able to stop Spotlight's endless indexing. I have moved my hard drive and my Time Machine backup into the 'private' filter in 'Spotlight Preferences.' I have also tried the "sudo mdutil -a -i off" trick to stop indexing altogether. But Spotlight Indexing goes "off" and then automatically turns "on" in Terminal. Spotlight carries on, and the computer performance is choppy.
I've run disk repair. First, I repaired permissions. Then I verified and attempted to repair the the hard drive. There is a missing file apparently, and I therefore must reformat. This is very first issue I've ever had with the hard drive since I bought the computer. Considering how awful Mavericks has been—I have been reading other Support Communities posts—I'm nervous about something going wrong, or that all these problems will persist after the reformat.
All of this has occurred three days after my upgrade to to OS X 10.9.4. I have heard of numerous people having problems with Mavericks. All similar problems concerning missing files, haywire spotlight, systemstats devouring any remaining CPU power and memory space, and slow Time Machine back-ups.
Anyone with the same problems? Care to theorize some solutions?
    I have a late 2008, 15inch MacBook Pro., 2.53 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 8 GB 1067 MHz DDR3, running OS X 10.9.4 (13E28).
    Cheers! I appreciate the help.

Older Macs have more troubles under Mavericks. Considering the age of your Mac, it's not uncommon to start have hardware issues like drive failure.
To repair the drive you must boot from the Recovery Drive.
Boot into the Recovery Drive by holding down Command R when restarting.
Run Repair Drive and Repair Permissions using Disk Utility in Recovery.***
Next Reset Home Directory Permissions and ACLs following directions here This will serve two purposes. It will reset YOUR permissions. Not the same as Disk Utility reset permissions and it will cause Spotlight to re-index your drive when restarting.
    Restart
Download and run the combo updater to refresh your OS X files.
OS X Mavericks 10.9.4 Update (Combo)

Apple updates available from the Software Update application are incremental updates. Delta updates are also incremental updates and are available from Apple Downloads (software updates are generally smaller than delta updates). The Combo updates contain all incremental updates and will update files that could have become corrupted.
Combo updaters will install on the same version as they're applying--no need to roll back or do a clean install.
"Delta" updaters can only take you from one version to the next. For example: 10.9.3 to 10.9.4. If somehow the 10.9.3 is missing something it should have, and that something isn't changed between 10.9.3 and 10.9.4 it will still be stale after the delta update.
***If Disk Utility is unable to repair you will have to copy your data to an external drive first. Reformatting will erase the drive. You should have a backup regardless, if your data is important to you. Just like a seat belt and an air bag protect you in different ways when driving, you need both Time Machine and a clone for full protection. If you don't have an external drive for backup, I can give you some suggestions to get you started.
Both of these applications can be used to create a clone.

  • How to fix 'missing files' in Lightroom 4? [was: adobe lightroom 4]

    Hi,
I have the scenario whereby all the images, I assumed, on my hard drive were as I imported to my  catalogue.  but it now appears that all of my images, are showing as previews but some are showing as 'missing files'.  Attempts to reconnect are proving futile as the usual click on and find previous file location location point me to the 'c' drive with a request for the file name.  On doing this, the 'C' drive doesn't appear to the have file name I require.  Have I in-advertately scrubbed something?  I have a lot of images of my grandkids, some of which I can delete but there is one particular image of my premature born grandaughter in the hospital I really need to keep.
I can't do any saving, moving of files whilst these question marks are in place, can someone help as this software, is not as user friendly as I first assumed.  All I want is a simple walk thru explanation of saving images from a camera and sorting of existing HD files,(many from past shoots on different cameras), to enable me to sort into some kind of format.
Would it be a good idea to completely scrub all of my images from the 'C' hard drive, (I have a backup on my external deskstop drive), and start afresh?
I have a external drive connected to my laptop and all those images are showing ok with no missing file links.   It's only the laptop internal drive that is showing the problem.
any help would be a bonus as the online youtbe video instructions don't answer my problem.

    Thanks Jim for your response,
    I will upgrade to 5.3

  • How to get back missing files - time machine problems

3 weeks ago, I bought a new iMac (let me call it A) and put everything from my old iMac onto it using Migrate Assistant via WLAN. It worked fine, but when I found out 2 days later that my 'new' iMac (A) had just been replaced by the 2013 iMac, I was really annoyed and contacted the store. They agreed to change it and so today, after the hourly time machine backup, I disconnected the external hard disk and deleted what I could off the machine that was going back to Apple. Plugged in the brand new iMac (B) today and when prompted, got it to transfer data from my time machine backup. However, although the programmes are there etc. the 'last backup' it used was the one from 20 September, the day before I first connected it to the (A) iMac. And so a lot of documents are missing. When I go onto time machine, it just has a lot of blanks inbetween 20 September and today, although it had been backing up on that 'new' iMac (A) every hour it had been on, but it seems that none of these have been saved. Now it has done a couple of backups today, so there are some new backups under today, but before that, just blanks until 20 September. Firstly, can I get the missing files back?  And secondly, what has gone wrong and what should I do to time machine to make sure it doesn't do this again? Thanks!!!

    Hi Guys,
I would really like to know, if anyone has an answer to this because I would like to be able to re-download some of my podcasts that I deleted to clear up some disk space.
    Thanks very much,
    John

  • I transferred my music to a larger hard drive and when I went to sync to iTunes there half my library had a '!' next to the songs. After I located one song the question 'would you like itunes to find other missing files' came up. What does this mean?

I recently transferred my music from one external hard drive to another and when I went to sync it to iTunes half my music had a '!' symbol on the left side, which meant that the songs weren't located. When I went to locate one of the songs it asked me if I wanted iTunes to find other missing files, which I said yes. What happens next and what is iTunes doing to find the missing files?

iTunes is a database.  When you import songs to the database, it records the location of that song, so that when you play, or sync the song iTunes knows where to look for it.
When you moved your music to a different location, iTunes can't find it because you didn't tell iTunes that you moved the music.
You'll have to re-add those songs that you moved to your itunes library.  Your best bet is going to be to delete all the songs in your library and then go to File > Add folder to library > and then find your music folder on the new external hard drive.
Also, the external drive HAS to be connected in order for iTunes to find it.

  • I have files in my iTunes media folder that somehow are not in my library. How do I get iTunes to scan my media folder and add missing files to my library without making a copy of each file in the same location?

I have files in my iTunes media folder that somehow are not in my library. How do I get iTunes to scan my media folder and add missing files to my library without making a copy of each file in the same location? If I use add file / folder to library, it scans the folder and then makes a copy of any file that is not in my library in the exact same location; I recal in older versions of iTunes being able to just drag my media folder into my library and it would update missing links.

Only the songs that are connected to iTunes will be copied when you consolidate to a new folder.
Splitting the media folder away from the usual location makes it harder to move iTunes in the future.
Are you go move everything back once you've tidied up or are you going to leave it that way? Either way I'd recommend you create an iTunes folder at the new location, an iTunes Media folder inside that, and consolidate to this new iTunes Media folder. You should also use the option File > LIbrary > Organize Library > Rearrange files in the folder "<Media Folder"> if you have not already done so.

  • Why do I have a missing file msvcr80.dll all of a sudden?

I just used iTunes the other day and when I tried to open it today there is an error (7) and windows error 126 and a missing file msvcr80.dll.
    What is going on?

The continued connection to the Events allows you to continue editing the project, or to use the Event in another project. As long as you are not editing, you do not have to have the external drive connected (but you will have the yellow triangles).
If you delete the events to reclaim space, I think you are basically left with your finished movie and further editing is not possible. (Although you could import your finished movie as an Event and do edits on that.)
Once the Project is done and shared, and you are absolutely, positively sure that you will never have to edit it further (or you are willing to re-import from your source and start over) then you can delete the event files and recover the space.
That's what I think. I am sure others will jump in to correct anything I got wrong.
I would also say that you might get a better experience by playing your finished movies in iTunes rather than through iMovie. Then there will be no possibility of further editing, but you can view your movie through Quicktime.

  • Compressor 4.1 ! Missing File

Hi all.  So I have a project finished in FCPX - I have no errors or missing file messages.  When I send it to Compressor, the opening logo and ending logo show up but the entire video between them is not.  I am getting the ! Missing File red screen.
I have tried uninstalling Compressor 4.1 using AppCleaner and re-installing.  Same result.
    Any ideas??

I think I've figured it out.  When I imported, I kept the original clip on an external hard drive and had FCPX import and create a proxy but not copy the original media.
When I go to export, Compressor is looking for the original media which I didn't have connected.  Connected it and everything looks great.
That was my mistake but it would help if FCPX warned me like 10.0 versions did that linked files are missing.  At least I don't see any warnings.
