In my current project implementation configuration moved to production. Almost ready to Go Live. Then the requirement change and data need to be pulled from a new R/3 client.
The Source system is not created in BI Devlopment client. I created RFC connection.
Trying to create a new source system. Give required parameters. The connection was not successful.
These are the parameters
Background unser in the source system : ALEREMOTE
Background user in BW : ALEREMOTE
Is this set up correct?
What would be the password to be given for the:
Background user in the source system
Password for BW user
Kindly advise.

You should give the ALEREMOTE user password for bg user in teh source system. This is because the user may not have the background job execution authorization.

while i don't have a white paper, it was as simple as right-clicking the source systems tree in AWB and creating a new one - the process is simplified if you're using release 3.0E up, but i can't help you much if not. but you basically have to create an RFC connection to the source system, create a BW user, assign the IDOCs properly (this one i don't know how to do), and linking them all up together in one source system.
if i come across any notes, i'd be more than happy to help.
i'll try asking our Basis people too, just in case they know of anything i could point you at.

ECC6.0 upgrade and BW steps for mapping the new ECC6.0 source system

Hello gurus
We are upgrading from R3 4.6C to ECC6.0. We use BW 7.0 SP 18. We will create the new ECC6.0 source system in BW, replicate metadata and everything. The question is how do we copy or reassign the existing objects pointing to our current 4.6c dev system (transfer rules, transformations, infopackages, process chains) to point to the new ECC6.0 dev system ? As a note, we also need to keep the current 4.6c source system objects until go-live o ECC6.0.
What is the common practice in such a case ? I am sure we are not unique...
A prompt response would be appreciated.

So the plan is to copy dev R3 and upgrade that - then Q r3 copied and upgrade that - then upgrade directly prod R3?
If so - then if it were me - I would firstly prove all this in a sandbox environment where BW dev points at an upgraded sandbox R3 ecc
ie same logical system
Then once that is proved I would organise downtime of BW development for a few months whilst the d-q-p ecc happens
Then when they copy dev r43 to ecc r3 i would then just point BW dev at the new ecc box and go from there (ie clear the deltas - change the logical system name to the new ecc box - replicate meta data - transtru all the datasources - run the process chains nothign to worry about)
However if you cant afford the down time - you may have to have an alternative transport route - ie copy dev BW to a another dev bw box and have an alternative path to production for issues
Then once everything is upgraded redo the changes through d-q-p to get the transports back in line (thats what we did)

How to Create an R/3 source system and load data from there

Till now I have only worked with Flat files. I want to create an R/3 source system and extract data from there on to my Info Providers.
Does anyone has detailed steps for that. I am using BW 3.5 system

1. Type Transaction WE30. Check iDoc types
2. Type Transaction SM59. Maintain RFC destinations
a.) Open the RFC Destinations. b.) Find your Source System and double click on it. c.) Technical setting should contain information regarding yoursource system d.) Logon Information should contain source system client and name & password for you remote logon. We use RFC_SAB for BW logon to R/3 and RFC_AAE for R/3 logon to BW. Password for both is always xxxxxxx. e.) Execute your 'Test Connection' & 'Remote Logon'. You should NOT be prompted for a password, if you are then the logon info is incorrect. f.) Repeat above to verify RFCs for other systems (CRM etc)
3. Type Transaction WE21. iDoc Processing Ports.
a.) Select 'Ports' and then 'Transactional RFC'. b.) Click on the Port # for you source system. c.) Verify description & SAP R/3 version.(BW 2.1C should be release 4.x) d.) RFC Destination should be one created in SM59. If non-existent then create one
4. Type Transaction SE16. Data browser (for R/3  BW Connections)
5. Type Transaction SM30. Msg Types & Assignment to iDocs
Enter 'EDIMSG' in the Table/View field. Click on the 'Enter Conditions' option for Restrict Data Range. Click 'Maintain'. Select Message Type. Then enter 'RSSEND' in "From' field. Verify that the Basic Type matches what is in your RSBASIDOCtable for each of your connections. If any are missing any entries you must create them as follows: Create another session and type Transaction WE30. Enter IDoc Type (ZSBAXXX) in Obj. Name field (Suggestion: Start new type with 'ZS' + Transfer Structure Prefix + (3)#'s) Select Create. Select "Create from Copy'. Enter 'RSSEND" in 'Copy From' field Enter Description (i.e. IDoc Type for BW Development) Execute (Green Check). Repeat for other missingentries.
6. Go to the SM30 main screen. Clients Overview
Enter 'T000' in the Table/View field. Click 'Maintain'. Verify correct Client and Description. If incorrect enter.
8. On BW Type Transaction WE20. Partner Profiles
9. On R/3 Type Transaction WE20. Partner Profiles
10. Check all is correct

Step 1. Select Source systems under Modelling in the left panel. In the right panel, right-click Source systems and select Createu2026.
Step 2. Select the FileSystem, manual meta data, data using file inte option, and then click to continue.
Step 3. Enter a name and a description for the source system, and then click to create the source system.
Now create an application component
Step 1. Select InfoSources under Modelling in the left panel. In the right panel, right-click InfoSources and select Create application componentu2026.
Step 2. Enter a name and a description for the application component, and then click to continue. (BW automatically adds a prefix of "Z" to the technical names of application components, unlike the naming system used for other BW objects.If u give the name as AC_DEMO it will be saved as ZAC_DEMO in the system.
Now create infosource
Step 1.Select InfoSources under Modelling in the left panel. Right-click the newly created Application Component , and then select Create InfoSourceu2026.
Step 2. Select the option Master data/texts/hierarchies, and then click to continue.
Step 3. Enter your infoobject name, and then click to continue.
Now you will be asked
Infosource(name) assigned to Appln component(name)?
Click continue
Now go back to workbench and see the Infoobject listed under the Application component name (under Infosource)
Right click the infoobject name and select Assign Datasource
Enter the Infoobject name as Infosource name and the source system name and continue
Now you ll get datasource assignment confirmations for Infosource_ATTR and Infosource_TEXT for master data and text.
Click yes and continue
Now you ll be taken to the Infosource(master data) change screen
Source system name will be given
Below that u need to give the datasource name u2026.._ATTR
Click Activate.
Now Click the tab transfer rules
Copy the communication str infoobject names to an excel sheet
For ex if your infoobj are IO_MATNUM and IO_MATNAME (material number and material name) copy and paste as
IO_MATNUM      IO_MATNAME
MAT001     TEA
MAT002     COFFEE
MAT003     SUGAR
GIVE YOUR DATA IN THE EXCEL. AND CLICK File Save As CSV(comma delimited) and save to ur system. Give file name as something like infosourcename_ATTR.csv
Now back to the Infosourcechange screen
Source system name will be given
Below that u need to give the datasource name u2026.._TEXT
And activate
Now Click the tab transfer rules
Copy the communication str infoobject names to an excel sheet

Problems Creating R/3 46c Source System in BW3.50

Hello.
Does anyone know if there is a way around opening up your R/3 system when creating it as a Source System in BW? I have no problems when creating the Source System in DEV, but when I attempt to create it in QAS and PRD, I get the message "Changes to Repository or cross-client Customizing are not permitted". Also, short dumps for ALEREMOTE "Dynpro Send In Background" occur in the R/3 system after each attempt.
If there is no way around this, I guess we will just open the systems up to these type of changes and then lock them back down afterwards, but I am hoping there are alternatives.

Hi Mike,
You must open the system for changes, there is no way around this. This is usually not a major issue but if the security people are concerned, you can open a trace on the admin user in the OLTP source system.
I have been involved in cases where the security guys had to open the system and watch the source system creation - not sure they learnt anything but they signed off on it!

steps:
create source system file (if you haven't)
- create ods
- create update rules for ods and activate
- create infosource
- assign infosource with datasource (source system file)
- maintain transfer rules - maintain infoobject in sequence as flat file to transfer structure. map infoobject in transfer rules. activate transfer rules
- create update rules ods-infosource and activate
- create infopackage, specify external data path (recommended file put in application server)

I installed the R12 with Vision. In the System Items flexfield, I find one structure code "SYSTEM_ITEMS". But I am not able to create new code as I am getting the error. "FRM-41051 - Cannot create new records here ". Also the New icon is disabled.
Is this how it is supposed to work? Cant we create new structure code for System Items flexfield in Vision Database? Please help me to resolve this.

Yes ! The answer is that this is exactly how it is supposed to work.
In Inventory :: [ System Items KFF ] is supposed to be single structure whereas Item-Categories has Multi-Structure option.
For every Single Instance :: It is like this only ~ as a standard functionality.
And this becomes very very challenging ( but a very fruitful & long lasting ) exercise.
Thrash it with the clients :: Why should you ever have 2-3 different Item codification schemas when its the same enterprise ?
They might respond with different intelligence incorporated in the Item Codes.
Most of the Intelligence can be shifted to the Item-Categories as they are not long lasting.
&&&& This means that either you can push for non-significant part numbering schema or the partial intelligence.

How to create DataSource for BI Source System in RSA1?

I have a BI Source System defined, however I can't figure out a way to create a new DataSource for it. I can create DataSource objects for all my other Source Systems, but I can't figure out how to do this for this BI system.
I select my BI Source System, right-click, choose "Display DataSource tree". When I right-click from the DataSource tree, I expect to get "Create Application Component" and "Create DataSource" options, but instead I only see "Replicate Tree Metadata" and "Replicate DataSources" options.

I guess you want to create a custom developed source in BI itself. For that you need to create the data source in RSO2 and inside you need to give the specific aplication component under which you want this DS to be in. Generate a data souce and then go to BI My self Source system and then replicate that particular appl component o view your data source.

Unable to create IDES R/3 source system in BI

Dear Experts,
I am stuck in some stage while creating source system in R/3, Pls guide me.
Following things are carried out already...

Now I am in source systems on BI side.....I am following these steps,
click on source system on LHS, right click on SAP folder on RHS and select create.
Now from here I am unable to move further...I am getting connection of BW to source system option, what is available destination here...what shud i select ? is it the ligical destination or the actual R/3 server ?
In target computer(Server) what shud i select ? if it is application server how do i find it ? Any t-code ?
Please guide me.

Error when creating transfer structure in source system

We have just had a copy of the ERP production system done and connected it to our existing QA system (done by our service providers) for a test go-live of our ERP upgrade.
Now I cannot activate the transfer rules as the transfer structure cannot be created in the source system.
I have checked the settings in table RSBASIDOC and they look okay, I can only assume that our wonderful basis people have done everything they should have but cannot be sure they've done it all correctly.
The sourcesystem is active, the RFC's are fine.
And help for a desperate man please. I've got to get this working in 1 day as basis need the system back to do an Oracle upgrade.

Try to replicate the DS once again and the run the program RS_TRANSTRU_ACTIVATE_ALL to activate your transfer structure. Hope it helps.

This problem is due to your files server.xml and web.xml. Have you modified them???

After creating Appl Comp and when i am trying to create transformations for the master data attribute i am unable to assign data source.I came to know that i have to create datsource at this step.But dont know how to create datasource for FlatFiles.

Want to create new certificate for the SYSTEM PSE

when i got o tcode 'STRUSTSSO2" In my system i am seeing a wrong certificate for the system PSE.
i want to delete and and create a new certificate.
Can some one tell me detail steps how i can remove the existing certificate and create a new one.
I am going to use the new certificate for SSO from portal to this server.
