Re-creating techniques in photoshop

Hi,
I'm relatively new to photoshop and am wondering if anybody could share some knowledge of how to re-create a similar effect, to the below image. I want to make my images have a yellow tone to them and look slightly old and faded. Can anyone help?
Thanks

Mind posting an image that you want to change thusly?
Some possibilities:
• convert the image to a Smart Object (nor directly related but just because I think SO provide many advantages)
• use Curves or Levels Adjustment Layers to increase the contrast
• use Hue/Saturation or Black & White Adjustment Layers to desaturate, possibly decrease Opacity to retain some original color
• add a Solid Color Layer set to Blend Mode Multiply or Color depending on what results you want (decrease Opacity as needed)
• as the image looks colorized to me add a Layer set to Blend Mode Multiply and paint in for example the lips with red etc.
• duplicate the Smart Object, move it to the top in the Layer Panel (or maybe keep the multiplying paint Layer topmost), set it to Blend Mode Color and apply a significant Gaussian Blur (decrease Opacity as needed)

  • Creating stills in photoshop cs2 for 16:9 HDTV

    Hi,
    I've been reading posts regarding creating stills and still need some clarification. I'm from a print world, so dealing with square pixels vs. non square, hdv, vs dv widescreen is all a bit confusing....
    I've been to this link: http://www.fcpbook.com/Photoshop1.html and several others, plus reading the manuals which all have been helpful, but each instance deals with different specs, not necessarily what I've listed below.
    First, I am creating the stills for 16:9 viewing on a hidef tv (1080). The FCE HD project is an animated, narrated story with overlays, keyframe motion and some limited effects.
    Here are my questions:
    1. In creating my original photoshop template: should I use pshop's presets under "new document":
    HDV, 1920 x 1080 (with guides) and if yes, what should the aspect ratio be set at? Square or HDV anamorphic? (When I do "HDV anamorphic" I get a squashed look in FCE, with "square" it looks good.)
    2. Saving the photoshop file to be imported into FCE, would it be better to save as a jpg, or photoshop or other format? I've been reading differing opinions as to which...
    3. Once I create this template (above) can I crop down the still if it doesn't fill the entire photoshop template (I will have some overlays that will not require a full frame in FCE).
    4. some images will be enlarged in FCE. Instead of enlarging them in FCE, should I be enlarging them in photoshop? should I be enlarging exponentially, ie doubling the size of my original photoshop template? And if I'm enlarging them less than 150% in FCE, would the image lose it's sharpness at that enlargement?
    5. And finally, I've already created some of the stills in photoshop using the photoshop presets for HDV 1920 x 1080, pixel aspect: square and brought them into FCE. Is WYSWYG in the FCE's canvas window what I'll be seeing on my TV monitor (16:9 1080 HDTV). The images are not squashed and look great, but I'm not sure if that's what I'll end up with when I finally view on my tv.
    Thanks for any help!

    1. If you're working in FCE in a 1920x1080 sequence then that's what you should make in Photoshop, square pixels not HDV.
    2. Save as Photoshop, TIFF, or PNG, not JPEG.
    3. Yes.
    4. Enlarge in Photoshop if they have to be enlarged. You should never double the size of an image. It will quickly start to deteriorate, especially when it's re-compressed. You'll have to live with it not being full size. You should never enlarge an image more than 115%. It will start to soften and make encoding more difficult.
    5. No. The Canvas is a lo res representation of the final output. For professional work most editors use an external video monitor to view their material. This can't be done unfortunately in FCE with HD material.

  • Creating titles in Photoshop

    Hello,
    There are times I want to create titles in photoshop or fireworks and import into iMovie.
    When I do them @ 640x480, they come in all messed up.
    They look fine on QT Pro.
    What is the best way to do this for iMovieHD 6?
    Is there a template that anyone can refer me to?
    Thanks, Richard

    I guess you get the best quality if you compose the titles in the 720x480 resolution they end up with anyway (you are using NTSC, right?). Then there will ne NO scaling that can distort the image.
    So make a 720x480 Photoshop document. You can set Photoshop to use 4320/4739 ~0.912 pixel aspect ratio so you see the correct dimensions.
    http://www.iki.fi/znark/video/conversion/
    Then the trick: don't import that image to iMovie because it will scale the 720x480 image. Instead, open it in QT Player Pro and export it as a .dv stream. THEN import that .dv to iMovie. Then there should be no scaling.
    Also remember that it is surprisingly difficult to do good-looking line-art for video. You have to slightly blur the image if it contains sharp vertical lines. Avoid some colors in NTSC etc. See also:

  • Create Object with "Photoshop.Application"

    Cannot create an object reference to Photoshop CC using Excel 2011 and vba, is there missing files with the standard installation?

    Hi;
    I have been writing VBA code for many years and have always used Windows up till now, I am attempting to do things on a MAC I can easily do in Windows. I have for years used macros written by myself referencing Adobe Photoshop and also Microsoft Access from within Excel. I have used what is termed 'Late binding" to create objects for the above applications. I understand Access is not useable on the MAC but I believe I should be able to use the macros I have written with slight modifications for file locations. Typically nearly the first executable statement in these macros are as follows
    Dim appRef as Object
    set appRef = CreateObject("Photoshop.Application")
    the second statement when executed allows me the opportunity to use Photoshop (Versions 7 -> CS5 have been successful) to reference all the procedures and functions that would appear on the desktop when using Photoshop.
    According the scripting PDF manual for CS6 they use the same syntax for the VBScript examples. I believe this should work with Photoshop CC. I think when I installed the cloud version I opted for "Typical" installation" instead of maybe selecting "Custom Installation". How do I achieve the use of the above technique? As stated earlier I have used this since Photoshop 7. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you,
    Robert Firman

  • Unable to open or create files in photoshop CS4

    Suddenly my Photoshop CS4 has stopped working. I can open the program, but are not able to either open files (jpg, psd, tif ++) or create new files. No error message, it just doesn't happen anything. The program doesn't stop working either, I can still browse all menues or try to open the file again, but nothing happens, it's just like the functions doesn't work. Sometimes I''m able to open a file, by browsing my computer and choose "open in photoshop cs4". Then the file opens in Photoshop, but I'm not able to do anything. No menues or actions are working. I'm running 64bit Windows 7 on a Lenovo T420s laptop.
    I'm running photoshop version 11.0.2
    I have tried to reset the preferences, tried to reinstall Photoshop, tried other versions (CS5) and even tried to reinstall my computer. Doesn't help, the program is still not working.
    What can cause this?

    I am not sure why some computer mfgrs. are going to the dual video chip setup, but it does seem popular.
    As you found out, the use of the Intel chip can be problematic. We see this a lot in the Adobe Premiere (video editing program) Forums, and it has become a real sore spot.
    One of the major weaknesses is that while Intel makes great chips, they have historically had abysmal driver support. Some computer mfgrs. to re-write the Intel drivers, and that can help - but it can also hurt, depending on the regularity, that they issue new drivers. Even a simple OS update/hot-fix can render a video driver obsolete. That is one reason that ATI/AMD and nVidia issue drivers with such regularity (usually about 1/mo.).
    Good luck, and wish that I had some "fix" for you. With some computers, users HAVE been able to disable the Intel graphics chip, but it does not sound like that will be the case with your computer. Have you looked at setting the video chip in the BIOS w/ SETUP?

  • Is there a way to create actions in Photoshop Elements 7

    Is there a way to create actions in (or for, other than Photoshop, CS3, 4, 5) Photoshop Elements 7?

    You can certainly create actions for Elements (just make sure you don't include steps, like a history snapshot, that PSE can't do), but you can't create them IN elements, only in photoshop.

  • Cannot open file or create image in Photoshop CS5 (12.0.4 x64)

    Photoshop starts as normal. When I do File>Open or File>New nothing happens. See demo here http://www.screenr.com/LUkH
    I've searched the webs and see many cases of what sounds like a similar issue, but I cannot get any of the suggested fixes to work for me.

    http://www.dtg-forums.com/forum/showthread.php?t=668
    http://en.kioskea.net/forum/affich-449-photoshop-cs3-can-t-open-files
    What I've tried so far:
    I've uninstalled, deleted all AppData and ProgramFiles folders, installed, updated. Still no luck. Version 12.0.4 x64.
    I've removed all printers.
    I've done the preferences reset trick by holding down CTRL+ALT+SHIFT when launching Photoshop.
    I've done the super weird ESC and CTRL+SHIFT+S described in the last link above (sounds like nonsense!).
    Photoshop was working fine on this same computer earlier, but one day decided to stop working.
    Can't even access the Adobe Chat support for CS5 even though I paid them a lot for this currently 100% useless software.
    I'm running Windows 7 X64, fully updated.
    Photoshop CS5 (12.0.4 x64). Freshly installed.
    Any help greatly appreciated.

    Transcript from unhelpful Adobe Support, CS5 is no longer supported. Basically this turned into a hopless a rant on my part...
    Tazkir: Hello. Welcome to Adobe Technical Support.
    Tazkir: Hi magnus.
    Magnus Olstad Hansen: Hi. My Photoshop is no longer able to open images or create new images. I've tried everything I can imagine would help at this point, and I really need some advice. I've also asked the community here (http://forums.adobe.com/message/5720427#5720427). Please advice what I can do to be able to use the product I've bought from you?
    Tazkir: Please allow me a moment while I look into your account & verify the details.
    Tazkir: Could you please provide me the email address registered with Adobe?
    Magnus Olstad Hansen: (email)
    Tazkir: Thank you for the email address.
    Tazkir: Just to confirm you were able to open Photoshop before.
    Magnus Olstad Hansen: That is correct. It's been working before, on the same computer.
    Tazkir: I am sorry to inform you that I could have really helped you . But this issue is not under our support area. I am sorry to inform you that the concerned team will be available after .I request you to please contact us back via same live chat after .so that your issue will be handled and resolved by the concerned team.
    Tazkir: Is there anything else I can help you with?
    Magnus Olstad Hansen: after ... when?
    Tazkir: During week days.
    Magnus Olstad Hansen: Ok. I've made so many failed attempts at getting help with this issue, could you please leave a note for the relevant support team and have them contact me at (email) ?
    Magnus Olstad Hansen: It would be easier for everyone, I imagine.
    Magnus Olstad Hansen: Or even if they just reply to the forum post.
    Tazkir: I am sorry I checked and see that you have Cs5, We don't support CS5 anymore. Please visit the forum.
    Magnus Olstad Hansen: I will never buy software from Adobe again.
    Magnus Olstad Hansen: I already linked you to a forum post, noone can help me there.
    Magnus Olstad Hansen: And Adobe does not care.
    Tazkir: I am sorry for the inconvenience caused to you.
    Magnus Olstad Hansen: Yes. 2 years is not an acceptable lifetime for purchased software.
    Magnus Olstad Hansen: I will be forced to replace my legally purchased version with a pirated one, support and help is better for that software than the legal one.
    Tazkir: Is there anything else I can help you with?
    Magnus Olstad Hansen: Well, no, I only have this problem.
    Tazkir: Thank you for contacting Adobe. Good Bye.

  • Creating GIF in photoshop?

    Hi Guys
    been dabbling in some photoshop, nothing major, but have been using it more recently creating my own business cards, and flyers for my phone repairs. Now I would like to start a website, I seen a few templates, and came across a GIF, and thought it would be great to animate my Logo as a gif, it's basically a blue power button, but want the effect of it glowing off and on, then repeat.
    But when I google to create a GIF, they all show how to create one from movie clips.
    I already have my layers for the logo, and am assuming I will have to make several in stages of it getting dimmer.
    Do I need to save all of these individually as JPEG, PSD? Is it actually possible to do?
    My experience is basically a novice, I can follow youtube tutorials and that's about it, so I would need pretty detailed tutorials on how this would work (if possible)
    I'm using CS6.
    Many Thanks

    Look for the topic creating a frame animation the timeline can do video and frame animations and frame animations came be rendered out as video.  Older versions of Photoshop only had an animation panel the could  do frame animations only.  here one I made using  two layers in an older version of Photoshop. Used the tween option to create frames between the two frames I created
    You can also add a layer mask and unlink it and do this

  • How to View PDF slideshow created with Adobe Photoshop Album?

    Many years ago during the Windows ME era, I created several short PDF slideshows with software (Adobe Photoshop Album) that included audio.  I saved them to a flashdrive.  I believe I used Adobe Reader 7 to play them years ago.  I am now running Windows 7 and attempted to open/play the videos and all I could see is the individual slides with no audio.  Is there a way to view these slideshows with audio today?  Some of them have special meaning and I would appreciate any assistance on how to view them once again.

    Hi there! Because the forum you originally posted in is for beginners trying to learn the basics of Photoshop, I moved your question to the Photoshop Ablum Starter Edition forum, where you'll get more specialized help.

  • Creating Clipart in Photoshop Elements 9

    I am new to Photoshop Elements 9 and am trying to turn a logo that I personally designed into clipart.  I have the logo saved as a jpeg file in my documents folder on my Mac.  Can anyone tell me the steps to follow to accomplish this?

    If your logo is saved as JPEG file, Open WORD, for example, go to Insert>picture, point to the location, and resize to suit.
    If you need the logo on a web page, for example one created in Publisher, you can follow the same drill, but the background will show. In order to avoid this, save the logo in a file format that supports transparency.
    In any even event, buy the program and we can help you as you go along.

  • Creating websites in photoshop and export to dreamweaver

    Ok. I NEED HELP!!! I tend to create complex designs in
    photoshop, and I can never get my images to line up correctly in
    Dreamweaver. I had sliced each image in photoshop, and saved them
    as HTML and Images, I open it up in dreamweaver, and none of my
    buttons work. I have also tried creating tables in a layout, but it
    never lays out the way I want it to. If anyone knows how to do this
    and create complex designs as well, please give me a hint on how to
    do it. I been having a hard time for a while and I am about to go
    to this program that does all of that for me while in photoshop.
    Also, if anyone heard of Site Grinder 2 (a site builder that
    works with photoshop and helps you create webpages)? It seems
    interesting, but I want to make sure I do not spend unecessary
    money.
    PLEASE HELP!!!

    I think it's worth your time. It's a nice product. If you
    have no
    intention or interest in learning HTML and CSS, it's about
    the only way to
    create stable webpages....

  • Creating my first Photoshop plugin

    Hi all,
    I am a programmer, I program in PHP, and Obj-C, I know C++ quite fair. I also Design web templates & code them. I need a plugin for photoshop, I searched it but I couldn't find it. So I thought I will try creating it for mysel & if it was nice I will share it too. But unfortunately I don't much help online for creating a very basic photoshop plugin.
    By the way, here are my requirments for that plugin:
    Most when I create my templates, I group layers e.g Button, Banner, CommentBox etc etc. Now all the related layers are gouped, but if I sometime want to move 2 layers from Buttons, 3 layers from Banner, & 1 layer from CommentBox group, so I select all those layers (Searching for them in my Layer palette ) & move all together. Now I want to move them again I will search for all these layers again across those groups, so I want to save layer selections. e.g I select a few layers across different groups, & save the selection as 'LeftObjects' & similarly select some more layers and save this layer selection as 'RightObjects'. Now whenever I need to select all those left layers together I click the 'LeftObjects' selection & select all the layers for me saving me from searching for those layers.
    I would really appreciate if someone could help, or suggest me  a step by step guide to a basic Photoshop plugin. I am a pretty good learner, so I would do it, but I just need a start.
    Thank you all
    Cheers.

    Actually you can do that with java script and a flex panel, but I don't see why because you can just use the link layers already in Photoshop, the only downside of linking is that you can't define any name for the link layer set.
    Anyway if you still want to develop that you can do it with javascript and flex or html5 for CC.
    For the Flash panels (Cs4,Cs5,Cs6) you can find the documentation here: Adobe Photoshop Panel Developer's Guide, as for the html5 panels for CC there are some great tutorials here: http://www.davidebarranca.com/.
    Also here are some java script functions to get the selected layers id's and select an array of id's.
    function getSelectedLayersIds(){// get the selected layers identifiers
      //( these id's are unique and they will not change if the layer name is changed or it's position in the layers editor will change)
      var idxs = getSelectedLayersIdx();// first get the indexes
      var selectedLayersIds = [];
      //for each index get the layer id
      for( var i=0;i<idxs.length;i++){
      selectedLayersIds.push(getIdfromIdx(idxs[i]));
      return selectedLayersIds;
    function hasBackground(){// function to check if there is a background layer
        var res = undefined;
        try{
            var ref = new ActionReference();
            ref.putProperty( charIDToTypeID("Prpr") , charIDToTypeID("Nm  "));
            ref.putIndex( charIDToTypeID("Lyr "), 0 );
            executeActionGet(ref).getString(charIDToTypeID("Nm  ") );
            res = true;
        }catch(e){ res = false}
        return res;
    function getIdfromIdx( idx ){// get the id from index
      var ref = new ActionReference();
      ref.putIndex(charIDToTypeID('Lyr '), idx);
        var desc = executeActionGet(ref);
        desc = desc.getInteger(charIDToTypeID("LyrI"));
        return desc;
    function getSelectedLayersIdx(){// get the selected layers index( positon in layer editor)
         var selectedLayers = new Array;
         var ref = new ActionReference();
         ref.putEnumerated( charIDToTypeID('Dcmn'), charIDToTypeID('Ordn'), charIDToTypeID('Trgt') );
         var desc = executeActionGet(ref);
         var add = 1;
         if(hasBackground()){alert('hBck');add = 0}
         if( desc.hasKey( stringIDToTypeID( 'targetLayers' ) ) ){
              desc = desc.getList( stringIDToTypeID( 'targetLayers' ));
              var c = desc.count
              var selectedLayers = new Array();
              for(var i=0;i<c;i++){
                   selectedLayers.push(  (desc.getReference( i ).getIndex()) + add);
         }else{
              var ref = new ActionReference();
              ref.putProperty( charIDToTypeID('Prpr') , charIDToTypeID( 'ItmI' ));
              ref.putEnumerated( charIDToTypeID('Lyr '), charIDToTypeID('Ordn'), charIDToTypeID('Trgt') );
              srs = hasBackground()?executeActionGet(ref).getInteger(charIDToTypeID( 'ItmI' ))-1:executeActionGet(ref).getInteger(charIDToTypeID( 'ItmI' ));
              selectedLayers.push( srs);
         return selectedLayers;
    function doesIdExists( id ){// function to check if the id exists
      var res = true;
      var ref = new ActionReference();
      ref.putIdentifier(charIDToTypeID('Lyr '), id);
        try{var desc = executeActionGet(ref)}catch(err){res = false};
        return res;
    function multiSelectByIDs(ids) {
      if( ids.constructor != Array ) ids = [ ids ];
        var layers = new Array();
        var id54 = charIDToTypeID( "slct" );
        var desc12 = new ActionDescriptor();
        var id55 = charIDToTypeID( "null" );
        var ref9 = new ActionReference();
        for (var i = 0; i < ids.length; i++) {
        if(doesIdExists(ids[i]) == true){// a check to see if the id stil exists
             layers[i] = charIDToTypeID( "Lyr " );
             ref9.putIdentifier(layers[i], ids[i]);
        desc12.putReference( id55, ref9 );
        var id58 = charIDToTypeID( "MkVs" );
        desc12.putBoolean( id58, false );
        executeAction( id54, desc12, DialogModes.NO );
    The way I see the panel will be like this:
    first get the selected id's with the "getSelectedLayersIds()"  command , and create a metadata with the name of the set and the array of id's, also add in the panel one button with the name of the new set. I am thinking of the metadata because you can save it with the document and every time you will open the document you can read that data to populate your panel with the already saved sets.
    When you want to select back the layers from one set, just click on the button set from the panel, and from the metadata of the document search the name of the set and get the corresponding array of id's, than just use the "multiSelectByIDs( the array)" to select the layers.
    That's it I hope I was clear enough.
