RE:-Data Porting in Oracle
hello,
can anybody help me.
Tell me it is possible in oracle we directly port the data from foxpro to oracle.
one other thing is that we can use oracle for writing some kind of code using we port the data.
In compare to visual foxpro how oracle is better.
Reply.
Thanks in Advance.

Attach Forms With Comm Port in Oracle Forms
I am trying to make connection of Oracle forms Builder with my device using comm port but i dnt know the complete procedure to attach the comm with oracle forms also i have no idea to convert asquii data to normal form.Please any one help me to attach comm port with my oracle forms and also convert asqui code which is showing on hyper terminal into normal data.Also I am using oracle forms 6i
Make a java component (PJC) and use a rxtx library (http://rxtx.qbang.org/wiki/index.php/Examples) ...
I have made a PJC to use a RS232 port from oracle forms for Hypercom POS terminal..
Here is my code (in short i will post a component on PJC site (here I can't post a complete code because of 30000 char limit ;) )..
If you look in method "public void init(IHandler handler) " I make a download of rxtxSerial.dll from my forms server and then I call System.loadLibrary("rxtxSerial");"
In other way you must put the dll in windows/system32 path.. This dll is native library for rs232 communication.
If you look at the method "public void doTransaction" you can see the initialization of comm port...
With inputStream and OutputStream you read and write datas to/from your rs232 port..
p.s: the code is not complete but you can see how I made the rs232 communication (also the code is not final ;) )

Hi ,
I have to start new data porting project which is having new source system in sybase and target DB in oracle uisng Oracle Ware House Builder.
The source and Target Data models are not the same.
Can any one guide me about how to approach to data port between these two DBs in terms of:
1.What are the major steps to follow to achieve this ?
2.What all the intermediate DBs i need to mainitain?
3.What are the key issues on which i need to focus?
Is there any other things i need to focus on this.
Please guide me here
Regards

Hi DarthVader,
I am very thankful to you for your guidence here.
i have quick point to say about the below one:
*3. Yes - Yyour load strategy will define this. I assume that you only want to load the data that has been added/modified so do tabfles in source(sybase) tell you what data has been modified/isnerted since the last run, are there history tables in sybase which logs this information if not then you will need to sit with the guys who understand the source data and pick up only modified data and you should maintain a history table at target(oracle) end to know what is the last date/time for which you have fetched the data so your next run should get everything from sybase which has been modified/inserted after the last fetch date.*
here i have to pull 5 years of source data from sybase where they are using the old system which was developed using
Sybase and Powerbuilder and planning to replace this with new system which was built now in .Net and Oracle.
the both data models are differing at source as well target so i need to pull data directly from Sybase to Oracle then they start working with this new system by decommsiong the old one.
Hope i am clear about what i need to do as part of Data Porting activity.
As i need to pull 5 years of data from source to target which includes Historical data,Do i need to maintian AUDIT tables?
Also what kind mapping excericse i need to do as Source(Sybase) and Target (Oracle) are differing in their data structures or Meta Data.
As part of Tool selection which one is the best tool in OWB and OMWB?
Can you please tell me what are all the major business questionnair i need to focus when i sit with end users?
Regards
RajeshThis is a one time exercise of getting historic data and would not require audit tables unless you intend to do it for a 10 million records at a time. I dont know what volume is involved here but if we are taling about few milion rows(around 50 million) then you can do this using owb provided your infrastructure,heardware and mapping is well tuned.
Your mapping should only have target load type of "insert" all the times , do not create indexes on target table. first load the data and then create index on target oracle tables.
not sure if it is wise to export large amount of data over the network if not then you will have to dump the datafrom sybase into a csv or flat file and then use external tables or sqlloader to import the data into oracle.
unbderstanding the type of data(attributes) and amount of data from source is very crucial.
Do not create any Pk/FK /triggers on target as this can slow down the process of load. I am assuming that the source tables are constrained.
For migration i dont think u need to ask any business question except why do you want to port all 5 years data into oracle. Can you not port last two years data into oracle for MI or any other reason and leave the rest in sybase, the statutory requirements will only be to have the data secure irrespective of the system for 6,8 or 10 years.
You might want to explore these before you start porting the data.
Hope this helps -
Problem with date format from Oracle DB
Hi,
I am facing a problem with date fields from Oracle DB sources. The date format of the field in DB table is 'Date base type is DATE and DDIC type is DATS'.
I mapped the date fields to Date characters in BI. Now the data that comes to PSA is in weird format. It shows like -0.PR.09-A
I have changing the field settings in DataSource to internal and external and also i have tried mapping these date fields to text fields with out luck. All delivers the same format.
I have also tried using conversion routines like, CONVERSION_EXIT_IDATE_INPUT to change format. It also delivers me the same old result.
If anybody of you have any suggestions or if anybody have you experienced such probelms, Please share your experience with me.
Thanks in advance.
Regards
VaradaThanks for all your reply. I can only the solutions creating view in database. I want some solution to be done in BI. I appreciate if some of you have idea in it.
The issue again in detail
I am facing an issue with date fields from oracle data. The data that is sent from Oracle is in the format is -0.AR.04-M. I am able to convert this date in BI with conversion routine in BI into format 04-MAR-0.
The problem is, I am getting data of length 10 (Output format) in the format -0.AR.04-M where the month is not in numericals. Since it is in text it is taking one character spacing more.
I have tried in different ways to convert and increased the length in BI, the result is same. I am wondering if we can change the date format in database.
I am in puzzle with the this date format. I have checked other Oracle DB connections data for date fields in BI, they get data in the format 20.081.031 which will allow to convert this in BI. Only from the system i am trying creating a problem.

Hi,
What is the significance of group level data links in oracle reports?How is it different from data links that select column from each groups?

Using Web Service as Data source (Pluggable Data Source) in Oracle Reports
Anyone using Webservice as a pluggable data source in oracle 10g reports.(Report builder version:10.1.2.0.2)? We need to be able to use web service as one of the data source to create reports.Tried the following and ran into issues:
Imported the wspds.jar fle from oracle plugin exchage. When tried using it received the following error in oracle reports trace file.
04/26 22:27:22 java.lang.NoSuchMethodError: oracle.xml.parser.schema.XSDBuilder.build([Loracle/xml/parser/v2/XMLDocument;Ljava/net/URL;)Ljava/lang/Object;
By troubleshooting issue found out that xmlparserv2.jar in 10g is newer than xmlparserv2.jar in 9i. wspds.jar is using xmlparserv2.jar in 9i as it was developed and tested for 9i only. Believe there is no newer wspds.jar file developed specifically for 10g?
Is there a better/standard solution to use webservice as data source in oracle 10g reports? Does later version of oracle reports supports webservice as a data source without any additional plugins? Any suggestion would be helpful.Please provide support for the above request.
It appears that Oracle 10g reports doesn't support Web Service as pluggable data source. Is this option is available in Oracle 11g Reports or Oracle Discoverer Or OBIEE? -
How can i save the data from the Oracle database to my local directory
How can i save the data from the Oracle database to my local directory instead Of saving the data file to the Directory created on the Oracle Server ?
I require to design the Procedure which will pull the data from various tables and needs to store the data in the Client's local directory.Since SQL*PLUS runs on the client, you can use SQL*PLUS to spool data to your local drive.
You could also use the database to write a a specified drive where all users have access to (mapped network drive, e.g.). I wouldn't recommend doing it that way, but it is sometimes useful when the files are created in some nightly batch run. -
How to export data from a Oracle table to a delimited file?
I know how to load delimited file into a table, but how to export
data from a Oracle table to a delimited file?
Thanks in advance.Try looking at this link, it's long but there's three different solutions discussed in it. If you look at Barbara Boehmer's
solution in her posts in the link below you'll see that she's addressed your concerns with spool files.
Re: utl_smtp and triggers -
I'm trying to pull data from an Oracle database using SSIS. When I try to select a few fields from the source table, it returns the following error message:
[OLE DB Source [47]] Error: SSIS Error Code DTS_E_OLEDBERROR. An OLE DB error has occurred. Error code: 0x80040E14.
An OLE DB record is available. Source: "OraOLEDB" Hresult: 0x80040E14 Description: "ORA-01858: a non-numeric character was found where a numeric was expected".
An OLE DB record is available. Source: "OraOLEDB" Hresult: 0x80004005 Description: "ORA-01858: a non-numeric character was found where a numeric was expected".
The source columns are a combination of numeric and texts, and I've also tried selecting one of them, which didn't work. I'm using the Oracle client 11.2.0.1, and it works fine with any other data sources I have connected to so far. How can I resolve this
error?Hi H.James,
According to your description, the issue is a non-numeric character was found where a numeric was expected while pulling data from an Oracle database in SSIS.
Based on the error message, the issue should be you are comparing a number column to a non-number column in a query. Such as the query below (ConfID is a number, Sdate is a date):
where C.ConfID in (select C.Sdate
from Conference_C C
where C.Sdate < '1-July-12')
Besides, a default behavior for the Oracle OleDb Provider that change the NLS Date Format of the session to 'YYYY-MM-DD HH24:MI:SS can also cause the issue. For more details about this issue, please refer to the following blog:

OIM 9.1.0.2 - Weblogic JDBC Multi Data Sources for Oracle RAC
Does OIM OIM 9.1.0.2 BP07 support Weblogic JDBC Multi Data Sources (Services>JDBC>Multi Data Sources) for Oracle RAC instead of inserting the "Oracle RAC JDBC URL" on JDBC Data Sources for xlDS and xlXADS (Services>JDBC>Data Sources> xlDS|xlXADS > Connection Poll> URL) ?
If yes, is there are any other modifications that need to be made on OIM, or just changing the data sources?Yes, it's supported. You install against one instance directly of the Rac Server. Then you update the config.xml file and the jdbc resource in your weblogic server with the full rac address. It is documented for installation against RAC. http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E14049_01/doc.9101/e14047/database.htm#insertedID2

How to find out the date when an oracle database is upgraded

I would like to know the date when an oracle database is upgraded (for example 10.2.0.4 to 11.2.0.3).
Can you help me to find out these details.
Thanks,

Hi Ed and SB,
Thanks for your replies. How about this option?
Let us assume I am interested in checking when my database is upgraded to any 11g version.
Will this query help?
select min(first_usage_date) from dba_feature_usage_statistics where version like '11%';
I understand this may not be a generic solution , but with this idea I may be able to build up a query to get the result.
Thanks,
Sarayu
How is it that you or nobody knows when the DB was upgraded?
I would have expected a formal testing & upgrade plan.
Does the organization practice safe software & utilize any source code repository?
Does everyone suffer from amnesia?
How could a MAJOR database upgrade slip by everyone who should care about such a detail? -

How to set JDBC Data Sources in Oracle MapViewer for Oracle database 12c Release 1 (12.1.0.1)?
The following is my configuration in the conf\mapViewerConfig.xml:
<map_data_source name="mvdemo12"
jdbc_host="127.0.0.1"
jdbc_sid="orcl12c1"
jdbc_port="1522"
jdbc_user="mvdemo"
jdbc_password="7OVl2rJ+hOYxG5T3vKJQb+hW4NPgy9EN"
jdbc_mode="thin"
number_of_mappers="3"
allow_jdbc_theme_based_foi="true"
editable="true"/>
<!-- **** -->
But it does not work.
After use "sqlplus mvdemo/[email protected]:1522/pdborcl", it connected to the Oracle database 12c.
Does anyone know it?
Thanks,For 11.1.1.7.1 use the syntax for jdbc_sid, i.e.
//mypdb1.foo.com as described in the README,
- MapViewer native (non-container) data sources can now use database service name in place of SID. To supply a db service name, you will use the same jdbc_sid attribute, but specify the service name with double slashes in front, such as follows:
<map_data_source name="myds"
jdbc_host="foo.com"
jdbc_sid="//mypdb1.foo.com"
jdbc_port="1522"
/>
For 11.1.1.7.0 use a container_ds instead.
i.e. instead of using
<map_data_source name="my_12c_test"
jdbc_host="mydbinstance"
jdbc_sid="pdborcl12c"
jdbc_port="1522"
jdbc_user="mytestuser"
jdbc_password="m2E7T48U3LfRjKwR0YFETQcjNb4gCMLG8/X0KWjO00Q="
jdbc_mode="thin"
number_of_mappers="6"
allow_jdbc_theme_based_foi="false"
editable="false"
/>
use
<map_data_source name="my_12c_test"
container_ds="jdbc/db12c"
number_of_mappers="6"
allow_jdbc_theme_based_foi="false"
editable="false"
/>
In my case the Glassfish 3.1.2.2 JDBC connection pool definition was
Property
url jdbc:oracle:thin:@mydbinstance:1522/pdborcl12c.rest_of.service.name
Uncheck the Wrap JDBC Objects option in Advanced panel, i.e. the Edit JDBC Connection Pool Advanced properties page.
Add a JDBC resource for that newly created pool
Use that in mapviewerconfig.xml as above -
How we create new data base in oracle 10g express edition
hello every body.. i student of B tech n new user of oracle so please help me how we creat new data base in oracle 10g express edition
Hello, Oracle XE can not create more than one instance, the other editions yes, but like other editions XE allows you to create database schemas, schemas logically grouped objects like tables, views, indexes created by a user. By creating an Oracle user is associated with a schema of the same name.
Using SYS or system accounts for creating user accounts.
Syntax to create a user:
create user Your_user
IDENTIFIED BY password
default tablespace users;
grant connect, resources to your_user;

Different ways to download data into a Oracle database
Apart from the below are there any other ways to download data into an Oracle database ?
1. Import data using import/export features.
2. Oracle external tables.
3. Data Pump
4. SQL Loader.
5. PL/SQL => utl_file package.
6. Oracle SQL developer tool - it was a nice surprise this morning to know that this tool can be used to import data into Oracle database.
Thanks
