Re-define file name in iTunes

I imported some audiobooks from my harddisk to iTunes and the file names are "!ntro 1", "!ntro 2"...... to "!ntro 12"
question is how do I make the change of each file name without having to change them individually? (I'd like to change them to "Intro 1,2,3......12" but I have to click each file to change it)Can I do it at the same time with all the files just like editing the album cover to an album?
Many thanks.

Hi, welcome to Apple Discussions.
No, you can't use Get Info to perform a global edit of the name field. You can get info on the first track and then use the next button to switch between tracks. The cursor will stay in the same field so you can put the cursor at the start of the first name, click the delete button, type an "I", click next, arrow key left to move the cursor to the left of the text and repeat... It wouldn't take long, but it can also be done with a script.
It's not terribly sophisticated and I had planned to put in some more error checking before putting it up online but this script should do what you want... http://samsoft.org.uk/iTunes/scripts.asp#ReplaceTextInName

  • How to get music file name in itunes

OK I have some music files on pc side. wav files mostly. Some of them have proper id tags, some don't. When I try to import tagged ones to itunes I get only partial info preserved. So either I have to edit tags manually, which is tedious work, either I have to burn to cd and then import. The best is last way, but there is tremendous cd waste involved. Is there easier way to import files? Is there something like virtual cd for mac? I tried using disc utility, but nothing happens. Itunes doesn't recognize files...
There are verbatim 32x cd-rw too, has anyone any experience with them? Speed is good and would solve waste problem too.
For burning I use BURN version 1.71u

    Hi Bheem,
    Explain your scenario in detail..
    >>i need to get the file name of file in one of the node in xml content of that file.
    1. Create an node <b>Filename</b> in the target datatype.
    2. Check the Option Filename in the Adapter Specific Message Attributes in the sender file CC.
    3. Use the following UDF and map it to the Filename field in the target message type.
    public String getFileName(Container container)
    DynamicConfiguration conf = (DynamicConfiguration) container.getTransformationParameters().get(StreamTransformationConstants.DYNAMIC_CONFIGURATION);
    DynamicConfigurationKey key = DynamicConfigurationKey.create("http://sap.com/xi/XI/System/File","FileName");
    String ourSourceFileName = conf.get(key);
    return  ourSourceFileName;

  • Corrupted file names in "iTunes Music Library.xml"

I have 7,500 songs in my library (iTunes 7.3.2). All the MP3s live on an external hard drive. Yesterday I tried to sync to my iPod and I noticed hundreds of 'file couldn't be found' errors. I checked in iTunes and loads of songs wouldn't play when I double-clicked on them -- they didn't have they error icon (which normally appears for missing files), they just wouldn't play.
After checking the .xml file, I noticed that hundreds of the file names been modified to point to weird files as follows:
    <key>Location</key><string>file://localhost/Applications/Utilities/Disk%20Utility.app/Contents/Resources/ru .lproj/DiskSizes.plist</string>
It looks like Disk Utility has somehow corrupted the filenames.
Does anyone have any idea how I can work around this problem? I really don't want to re-import my music as I'll lose thousands of ratings which have taken years to add!!!
The only option I can see is that I manually go through all of the file names and correct them by hand. This is going to take WEEKS!!!
I'd really appreciate some help here. Anyone else experienced this?

I'm having the exact same problem, but I know nothing of ruby scripts. I've exhausted my resources with tech support, and after literally hours of work with them it seems I now am faced with either re-rating each individual song, or pointing iTunes to each song that it can't locate. Is yours a solution that could help me? How can I find out more about Ruby Scripts? Thanks for your help, hellolylo (or anyone else who might also be able to help...)

  • Individual report path with defined file name from the report settings in Testsand 2012

    Hi,
    I have following task:
I want to test stand 2012 in each sequence to change the path of the report file. But the naming of the file is to be maintained as these settings can be made from TestStand into the report (DisplayName + _Report_ [<FileDate>] [<FileTime>] <unique>. <File Extension). I can not find now, however, the / callback parameter on which the components are assembled path and file in TestStand.
While I can read about the callback "GetReportFilePath" the path and file name, and with the expression: Parameters.ReportFilePath = "c: \ \ electro \ \ SHARE \ \ test protocols \ \ Test Logs \ \" change the path, but the file name will no longer be formed from the settings of TestStand.
I have the suspicion that I'm just not accreting at the right place. Can someone please give me a hint?

  • Dynamic File Name as source file format

    Hi Experts,
I have to load daily Excel Workbook to HANA.
Files will come to shared Folder in BODS Job Server in the format 'FILE_NAME_<DAYMONYYYY>'.xlsx format.
Everyday the file name will be appended with System Date Format.
    Example: 'FILE_NAME_17JUL2014.xlsx', 'FILE_NAME_18AUG2014.xlsx' etc.
I tried to achieve it by creating a substitution parameter and using it to dynamically define file name.
But I am not able to define the parameter correctly. (screenshot attached).
Please advise where I am doing wrong.  Is there any better way to achieve it.
    Thanks,

    Hi Bala,
    Thanks for your suggestion.
For a test I have created
    1. A Flat File named "FLAT_FILE_2014.txt".
    2. A Global Variable $G_FILE_NAME as varchar(18) and value 'FLAT_FILE_'||Year(sysdate())||'.txt'.
    3. Used it in the File Name for File Format.
    Below is the result:
When I hard-code the file name as "FLAT_FILE_2014.txt", I am getting the data Preview.
But When I am using global variable $G_FILE_NAME, I am not getting the data Preview.
    Please check attached "C.png"
    Please suggest.
    Thanks,

  • How to Sort music on play list by FILE NAME?

How to Sort music on play list by FILE NAME?

iTunes doesn't display the filename or filepath as a column so you can't sort on it. I could write a script to copy the filepath into the Sort Name field so that sorting by name would sort by filepath. Would that help? In normal circumstances however filepath order would be the same as Album by Artist, so I'm not sure what you would gain. Perhaps there is another way to approach whatever problem you think sorting by filename would solve.

  • Mail Notification with Custom Subject, Mail Body and PDF File Name

I have successful configured the Action Profile to send SmartForm Mail as PDF. But i would like to modify the Subject, PDF File Name & add text to mail body when a mail is sent to the user.
The Subject of the Mail is the same as the PDF file name. How to maintain a pre-defined file name for the PDF file.

I was able to find a commercial product that works very well. MaxBulk Mailer from Max Programming allows you to import a list of recipients, merge with personalized message and designate an attachment (just image types and PDFs, not all types work) and send.

  • Mp3 will not rename - reverts back to original file name. Any suggestions?

I have a bunch of mp3 files that I would like to rename the original file name. Itunes only allows me to change metadata, but to fix broken names and keep organized, I need to change the file name.  Once I rename the file, it shows the new name, and then upon playing it, it reverts back to the original name. I do not have any locked permissions. I have parallels and tried to rename them on the windows 7 side but same effect.  I tried to shut all programs off so the file was not in use. I even tried to export it as a acc file type.  I am exhausted looking for a solution, this is why I am using this forum as a last ditch effort. Please help.

As far as I am aware, iTunes does not rename files (at least nto my older version I use).  Yes, it will insist upon the files being in certain folders which is structured from the metadata, but the files themselves keeep whatever name you use.
I suggest this be moved to an iTunes forum (you choose for Mac or for Windows).  I have never seen anybody else complain about this in the past.
One question, do you subscribe to Match?  Is there anything else using these files, some third party software?

  • Creating dynamic file names

Ok now I am getting somewhere with OWB. Well all thanks to you guys for helping me out with my questions. Anyway now I am facing an issue I want to create the output files with today's file name. I mean if i am running the mapping on the 20th of October the file name should be xyz10202008.txt. If I am running the mapping on 25th of October the file name should be xyz10252008.txt. In the configure option where we specify the actual file name can we give an expression. In SSIS there is an option like that to customize a file name for the date. How do we simulate the same in OWB? Would appreciate all the help I can get.
    thanks in advance

There is an operator available in OWB process flow which is called user_defined. you can call any script using this operator.
In our project, we receive timestamped files but OWB can only read a fixed (pre-defined) file name. We use perl script to rename the timestamped file to a fixed file name e.g. xyz23102008 to xyz. OWB reads this data file and then we use the "user defined" operator in process flow to call the perl script (executed by a batch file) which renames the file xyz23102008 to xyz. You can use DOS commands as well rather than a perl script to be executed for this purpose in a batch file.
We are using OWB 10g R2.
Hope it must be helpful for you.

  • Ibooks ver1.5 pdf file name changed

After updating to version 1.5 (700) of iBooks on my iPad (ver1, iOS version 5.01), almost all of my pdf file names in iBooks are changing once I open those items. Some of the files change to what appears to be a property of the PDF file such as "Microsoft Word - (orginal file name)print.doc(x)" and other just get blanked out all together. The files names in iTunes when I connect my iPad seem fine, but within iBooks on the iPad it is a mess. Any ideas? My understanding is that the way to manage files names for PDFs in iBooks is through iTunes, but right now they seem out of sync.

Me too...I just filed a bug on the apple ipad support page. I guess after they see hundreds of filings of the same bug we'll have their attention :-) Obviously the latest IOS 5 iBooks update was not thoroughly
    tested...
I've also noticed that not only are the names of my titles  changing back to the metadata names in the original PDF when I open the PDF in iBooks but that changes I make in iTunes to the category of a PDF never sync
    to my iPad 2
Like others I have hundreds of PDF titles on my iPad2 ...when the document titles/names/categories become unintelligible or won't update I can'tmanage my library and it makes iBooks almost useless. I tried but
don't seem to be able to correct the problem by updating the PDF book "Info" in iTunes and forcing a re-sync.

  • ITunes v10.6.1.7 "Copying files failed. The File name was invalid or too long."

I'm trying to organize my music files using iTunes 10.6.1.7 and I keep getting the error message "Copying files failed. The File name was invalid or too long."
I've got music folders by artist in both the iTunes Music folder and the iTunes Media/Music folder. When I add certain files by drag/drop they sometimes get lost and I don't want that to happen anymore. I used to just consolidate my music files using the File/Library/Organize Library option and that worked, however now when I do that, I get the error message.
I'm a novice and the only online stuff I see is both confusing and refers to earlier versions of iTunes.
My concern is that I have heard that people lose entire libraries of their music when they trry to fix things like this and I don't want that. If this is of any importance, I have several files called iTunes library and temp library. I have no idea what that all means but I'm scared to death of it.
Also, I can't get to the "re-organize library" link at all. It won't let me.
One thing that be of some interest is that when I pull up the properties of the music and media/music files they are marked "read only" I'm also afraid to touch that!
Please help and please know that I am a dummy. Be kind and be clear. Step by step would be great, with images even better. Thanks.

Perhaps nobody knows the answer? We're fellow users here answering questions in our free time when we think we've something useful to contribute.
You can choose to *Consolidate selected tracks* with a right-click menu. Perhaps if you can identify a specific track that won't consolidate and examine the full path to the file & the path that iTunes would create when it consolidates the problem might become apparent. For example iTunes may not be able to move files if the source or destination path length exceeds 255 characters.

  • Importing song/artist names to iTunes using the file or folder names

    hello,
a friend of mine put all of his tracks onto a CD and gave me the CD to import to my library.
When I did this I noticed a convenient behavior which I have not been able to reproduce. iTunes automatically ID'ed both the song and artist name and separated them in iTunes to their corresponding columns.
when i do this, both artist and song name are lumped together into the song name column and i have to separate and cut and paste them out.
My friend put the albums in folders then a sub folder for artists and then inside that folder there were the song files.
How did he do it? I think it has something to do with using dashes or forward slashes or folders in the song file names, but I'm not sure how it works.

    Hello ,
    For iTunes :
Created a copy of the files in iTunes folder .
But before you delete the files from the desktop ,
    I suggest you check .
Finder > music > iTunes > iTunes Media
    For iPhoto :
I do not use this software so I do not know but
I can assume it's the same thing as iTunes .

  • Problems copying iTunes folder to an external hard drive - "The operation can't be completed because the item FILE NAME is in use"

    Hi,
I have been trying to back up my iTunes folder from my MacBook hard drive over to a new LaCie external hard drive.  However, whenever I try to do it at some point during the copying I keep getting the warning "The operation can’t be completed because the item FILE NAME is in use".  Each time I have tried it, it is always a different file name that comes up and at different points of the copying.  Following the warning, the copying stops and cannot be restarted.
I tried copying the iTunes folder to another Lacie external hard drive that I have, and it worked fine so I am guessing that it maybe something wrong with the hard drive.
I've been trying various approaches all day and can't seem to get anywhere with it - all very frustrating, so any help would be much appreciated!
    Thanks.

If you don't have other backup data on it, reformatting external drive could solve the problem.

  • The itunes application could not be opened.  The file name was invalid or..

    ...too long.
No idea when this started but cannot launch iTunes at all. To reiterate, when I try to launch iTunes I get the following error message: The itunes application could not be opened. The file name was invalid or too long.
I actually uninstalled it and reinstalled on my external drive and it came back with the same error. Any ideas on how to troubleshoot what caused this? I am at my wits ends with this!

I can't get mine to open at all. I even try clicking on a song to see if that will open it, nope. I have hooked up my iphone and ipods, nope. Click the icon, nope still nothing. It keeps erroring, but won't let me copy the error to put in here. I looked at the report it wants to send out, but there is nothing that says why it is erroring. Anyone else having this problem. Please email me at [email protected] to let me know what you did to solve it, or who I have to talk to to get it fixed... Thank you
