RE: Do you need to render all HD video before playback?

Hello,
Sorry if this is an easy one, but I'm new to FCP and I sat down to cut something today and after I dropped the first clip into the timeline, the red bar appeared and it wouldn't play without being rendered.
Thank you for your time,
Barry

All that means is that your clip setting and your timeline setting don't match. They need to match exactly or you'll get the render bar. The easiest thing to do is when you start a project, use the EASY SETUPS and choose your format.
For now, option-click on your clip and select ITEM PROPERTIES and FORMAT. See what the format of the clip is, go to the FILE menu and select AUDIO/VIDEO settings and under the sequence settigns tab, choose the format of sequence that matches your clip settings, and then create a new sequence.
No go read the manual and do the tutorials...this is all covered.

  • IPod Touch 4th Gen all have diff. fps. Need to render all in FCP?!

I have an iPod Touch 4th Gen and am trying to edit the videos taken on it on Final Cut Pro 6. But, I noticed all of the videos have different fps (frames per second). Do I literally have to render out all of them so I can view it? Or is there in option in Final Cut Pro where I can set the sequence settings to a generalized h.264 setting to cover all fps? Help!

    >is there in option in Final Cut Pro where I can set the sequence settings to a generalized h.264 setting to cover all fps?
FCP doesn't work with H.264 natively .  You need to convert all the files so they will match your FCP Sequence settings.

  • Need to render all the time - help!

    Hi everyone,
I just received a lot of footage from a director to edit. They're all quicktime files, but the format is "Apple Photo - JPEG, 320 x 240)". Everytime I drag a clip to the timeline, it goes red on me and I need to render it. I can't do this for a whole movie...anyone know how I can get around this?
    Thanks,
    Sarah

Thanks for the quick reply...someone posted earlier about sneaking around this by creating a multiclip sequence, which for some reason you can drag clips to without then having to render them. I'm prepared to use this method...unless it's going to come back to bite me later for some weird reason? Any thoughts?
    Thanks!

  • UCCHECK - do you need to complete all before the conversion?

    Hello,
We are preparing for the Unicode conversion - so question is, do you need to do the UCCHECK before the Unicode conversion or can you do it after?
Or at least, can you do just part of it and complete the rest after the conversion? And what if you missed some?
What problem do you see here?
    Thanks,
    Terry

    Hi Rainer,
    Thanks for the prompt reply.
Our situation is this - we have just completed upgrading our 46C DEV to the non-Unicode but we don't have immediate ABAP resource to do the UCCHECK. Our upgrade path is the standard (export, delete non-Unicode, install Unicode/import), so we will not have the non-Unicode system to work later.
So we are thinking of doing the UCCHECK in the Unicode system - that is still ok? Any risk?
We are awre we can not test programs until its enabled.
    Thanks again,
    Terry

  • You need flash to play this video

    ever since I updated to

Using Internet Explorer, could you please go to the following page and let us know what it says about Flash Player installation? http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/find-version-flash-player.html

  • OT: What viewers do you need to use ALL audio and video files?

I had a lot of trouble with audio and video files on my PC. I
    now have a
MacBook Pro, which is a big improvement. But I still
    frequently
encounter files that I can't use. I try to open them, but
    Apple doesn't
know what to do with them. For example, I often encounter
    unusable
videos while perusing news websites. I also have some audio
    files with
.mva or .mvw extensions that don't work.
So what viwers/players do I need to download in order to be
    able to play
every audio/video file that comes my way? iTunes handles .mp3
    files, and
I also have QuickTime installed. I just viewed another video

installed a Flash plugin. What else do I need to install?

  • Render all options: all options selected?

After reading the manual I got more confused...
I am exporting a self-contained QT. I want the best quality.
Before exporting, I want to render.
    Am I 100% safe if I :
RENDER ALL > Select all the options (all the colors, even the ones I don`t need!) > RENDER ALL both video and audio ?
Should I select the whole sequence in the time line ?
    Thanks a lot.

It will not hurt to have all the colors selected (even unlimited) before rendering.
Whether that will speed up the export, I don't believe it will.
Exporting to QT, the render does not matter. If it is not rendered it will be. Even if you are not selecting recompress each frame.
The unlimited option (or orange) is the one I generally turn off, because we do a lot of HDV. Unlimited tries to conform it to HDV when I don't need it to. So the option just above (Full) will suffice.
I would recommend you render all with all options except unlimited before exporting.
When it comes to selecting. I would recommend having ALL selected (Command+A) or none at all (ShiftCommandA). Make sure you don't have one video selected and also make sure you have the timeline selected, otherwise it might export the item in your viewer.
That's my advice. Hope it helps

  • Do I need to Render every time I make a to the audio or video?

Today is the first time I have seriously considered using Final Cut Pro. This software was purchased for me (without my knowing) by the company I am working for to be used for simple editing and exporting. Recently I have been using iMovie and have been creating adequate videos, but figured it is time to upgrade to a "pro" software. That has been a big mistake.
It seems like every time I make a change to the subclip in the timeline I need to Render the movie; if not, additions like transitions, audio filters, or simple changes are unplayable. For instance, when I adjust an audio filter (hum remover, for example) and try to preview the movie in the canvas, all I see is video accompanied by an annoying beeping sounding. Once I render the movie, I can I finally hear the expected audio.
I am convinced I am doing something wrong, but I haven't noticed my mistakes in the help sections. Do I need to Render the audio/video every time I want to make a change and preview said change? Can someone point me in the right direction?

#28 Having to render every clip in the timeline
Shane's Stock Answer #28: When I put a clip in the timline, I have to render it before it will play. Why?
Your clip settings MUST match your timeline settings. If you have DV/NTSC material, you need a DV/NTSC timeline. The frame rate, audio rate and dimensions (4:3, 16:9) all need to match exactly. In Final Cut Pro 6, this is easy, because when you drop a clip into the timeline, it asks if you want to set up the timeline to match the settings of the first clip you drag into it. Click YES and you are ready to go.
However, in FCP 5.1 and earlier, it is a bit trickier.
The most important thing you need to do is properly set up your project from the start, and the best way to do this is to choose a setting from the Easy Setups, located under the Final Cut Pro menu.
Once you do this, you’ll need to create a new sequence. This is because the sequence that is already in your new project is setup for the typical default setting of DV/NTSC, or for the settings of your last project, which might not match what you are currently working with. So delete SEQUENCE 1 and create a new sequence:
This new sequence will contain the settings you chose in the Easy Setup menu, and should match the format you captured.

  • Need to render titles evertime project is opened

    Hi
Just a quick question on rendering titles. If I save a project file where all the titles are rendered, can anybody tell why when I open it again there are red lines (need to render) over all the titles in the project?
    Thanks
    Craig

    Craig,
Yes, Titles appear two places: the Project Panel, and then instances of those Titles in the Timeline. For unique Titles, you will need one of each in the Project Panel, but can have any number of instances of those in the Timeline. They are linked back to the Title in the Project Panel. What this means is that if you have same Title_01, and have used it 10 times in the timeline ("Meanwhile back at the pyramid") would be an example, and decide that they should all read "Meanwhile back at the Sphinx," you just need to make that change once and all of the instances will update to reflect that change. Now, if you want both, you would need to create a new Title with the other text, and then use as many instances of it, as is required. PrPro's Titler has one neat feature, a little icon, "Based on Existing Title," that will create another similar unique Title, based on the one in the Titler Panel. You will assign a name to that new one, and it will start as a perfect clone of the one you are basing on. Then, when you make changes to it, the do NOT affect any instance of the first Title, but will provide the same formatting, Styles, etc.. I use this "one-click" function all of the time. I also will Save as Template, any Title that I anticipate needing in other Projects, so I can load those, across all Projects, and base my new Title on the formatting and Styles. Not positive of exactly how PrE might differ here. Help, or others can direct you.
As Titles need to be Rendered for the smoothest playback, every time that you make a change, all instances of that Title will require Rendering again. Also, just adding a Title over fully Rendered footage, will then give you a red line, and you would need to Render all over, as PrE looks at all Clips/Titles on that part of the Timeline as a composite - one change will affect all of the Clips in that "composite."
Hope that this helps, and sorry that I do not know all of the in-n-outs of PrE's Titler, but just do not use it all that much. Others will know and can give you tips.

  • Error exporting... Says I need to render but I already have!

When I go to export my project as an MPEG 2, red bars appear over the timeline as if I haven't rendered and I get a message telling me that I need to render before exporting. I have rendered the project so I have no idea what the problem is. It will let me export the project as a Qucktime movie.
    Thanks for your help!

for export to MPEG2 you need to render everything ... even th ebits that fcp can playback in full res without rendering
go to you sequence render menu and make sure that even "Full" has a checkmark , then render again.
    this time it should work

  • Do I need to render before saving?

    Hi,
Do I need to render the video before the final render in the output format I want?
As I add titles and effects, I'm currently rendering the video - primarily because it's easier for me to work on the project if I can watch smoother video. At the end, I go to the share tab and render the project in the final format that I want e.g. mpg, etc.
I'm trying to see if I can speed up my workflow by skipping the intermediate renders before the final one. Or do I still need to keep rendering to prepare the footage for the final render?
    Thanks,
    Sam

No you don't. You don't really even have to render while you are working on the project.
Note that when you render only the area under Work Area Bar is rendered so, if you need to render an area because you want a better view of a transition or effect, you can set the Work Area Bar to cover only that area of your timeline, and then PRE will render only that area.
