Re: does the full cold backup of rman include onlinde redologs?

Hi,
does the full cold backup of rman include onlinde redologs?
So that at the time of recovery when i restore the database the online redologs also restored to that point?
Please kindly add your suggestions. I read in 10g database in mount state while taking RMAN Cold backup as the all the oracle processes are down we cant copy the online redologs.
Am I Correct if not please any one answer me why the online redologs are not copied.
Thanks in Advance

Am I Correct if not please any one answer me why the online redologs are not copied.No. They are not needed because the only valid backup for a cold (or noarchivelog mode database) backup is a consistent backup. Since the backup is already consistent there are no changes to apply.
The online redo logs are (re)created/reset by the "resetlogs" clause when the database is opened.

  • Cold backup using RMAN

    Dear All,
    db_version :10.2.0.4
    os_version:Window 2003 server
    Environment:Test
    I wish to perform cold backup using RMAN for the same i want to know following :
    1. What is the script / command ?
    2. How to restore cold backup completely ( ex:- if i lost all my data,redo and archives )
    3. Is it mandatory to open the database in RESETLOG mode after recovery ( since i have a cold backup ) ?
    Thanks in advance

    A "Cold" Backup is called a "Consistent" Backup.
    See http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/backup.102/b14192/bkup003.htm#sthref297
    Backup :
    From the RMAN command line :
    SHUTDOWN IMMEDIATE
    STARTUP MOUNT
    BACKUP DATABASE
    BACKUP CURRENT CONTROLFILE  -- to get the controlfile in a separate backupsetRestore :
    STARTUP MOUNT
    RESTORE DATABASE
    ALTER DATABASE OPENIf you use an SPFILE, you can have an SPFILE backup included automatically with the controlfile backupset with CONFIGURE CONTROLFILE AUTOBACKUP ON and CONFIGURE CONTROLFILE AUTOBACKUP FORMAT ...
    Read the documentation.

  • Migrated Mac to new Macbook Pro- Does the Time Machine backup follow?

    Had old macbook pro with backups on TM. Migrated computer to new macbook pro. Does the old TM backup follow or should I delete (to make space) and restart with new backup?

    When your next backup to the same drive starts, you'll get the option to continue using the backups. See #B5 in the Time Machine - Troubleshooting *User Tip,* also at the top of this forum.
    Even if you choose to continue, TM will probably do a new, full backup. So if your TM drive isn't well over twice the size of the data it's backing-up, your best bet may be to erase the drive with Disk Utility (don't try deleting via the Finder) and let it start fresh.

  • About hot & cold backups in rman

    Hi all,
    I've found out that with rman 9i the following script:
    - shutdown immediate;
    - startup mount;
    - backup database plus archivelog;
    - alter database open;
    is what I need for a cold backup; somewhere somehow I've caught a glimpse about
    this script
    - backup database plus archivelog;
    which 'should' be able to produce a reliable hot backup, but actually Oracle docs
    is not crystal clear on this point: I'd rather ask if:
    a/ would "backup database plus archivelog" create an usable full backup on
    a 9i archivelogged db?
    b/ would the same statement work on a 8.1.7 archivelogged db? (yes, the syntax is different...)
    hope somebody may shed some light
    thanks for help,
    daniele rizzi ([email protected])

    backup database plus archivelog; is a 9i RMAN command so it cannot be used in 8i. Here is what it does as stated in the Oracle9i Recovery Manager User's Guide and Reference:
    Backing Up Logs Using BACKUP ... PLUS ARCHIVELOG
    When backing up objects other than archived logs, you can specify BACKUP ... PLUS ARCHIVELOG to include backups of archived logs. The command performs the following sequential actions:
    - Runs the ALTER SYSTEM ARCHIVE LOG CURRENT command.
    - Runs BACKUP ARCHIVELOG ALL. Note that if backup optimization is enabled (refer to "Backing Up Files Using Backup Optimization"), then RMAN skips logs that it has already backed up to the specified device.
    - Backs up files specified in BACKUP command.
    - Runs the ALTER SYSTEM ARCHIVE LOG CURRENT command.
    - Backs up any remaining archived logs generated during the backup.
    From what I read it backs up all current archivelogs, backs up the datafiles, and backs up any remaining archivelogs created during the datafile backup. It basically makes it easier to backup the archivelogs by not having to issue a archvielog backup before and after the datafiles to ensure all archivelogs are backed up.

  • Script for cold backup using RMAN

    Dear all,

    Edited by: user12000301 on May 18, 2011 5:02 AM

    Dear All,
    Thanks a lot for your valuable time :
    However i have managed to do it as follows :
    1. First i have configure the parameter of RMAN ( Since it is my UAT in Noarchive log mode), I have never tried RMAN cold backup on the same.
    Following is the out put of SHOW ALL;
    RMAN> show all;
    using target database control file instead of recovery catalog
    RMAN configuration parameters are:
    CONFIGURE RETENTION POLICY TO RECOVERY WINDOW OF 2 DAYS;
    CONFIGURE BACKUP OPTIMIZATION OFF;
    CONFIGURE DEFAULT DEVICE TYPE TO DISK;
    CONFIGURE CONTROLFILE AUTOBACKUP ON;
    CONFIGURE CONTROLFILE AUTOBACKUP FORMAT FOR DEVICE TYPE DISK TO 'D:\DB\RMAN_BKP\BACKUPS%F';
    CONFIGURE DEVICE TYPE DISK PARALLELISM 2 BACKUP TYPE TO COMPRESSED BACKUPSET;
    CONFIGURE DATAFILE BACKUP COPIES FOR DEVICE TYPE DISK TO 1;
    CONFIGURE ARCHIVELOG BACKUP COPIES FOR DEVICE TYPE DISK TO 1;
    CONFIGURE CHANNEL DEVICE TYPE DISK FORMAT 'D:\DB\RMAN_BKP\BACKUPS\DB_%U.%r';
    CONFIGURE MAXSETSIZE TO UNLIMITED;
    CONFIGURE ENCRYPTION FOR DATABASE OFF;
    CONFIGURE ENCRYPTION ALGORITHM 'AES128';
    CONFIGURE ARCHIVELOG DELETION POLICY TO APPLIED ON STANDBY;
    CONFIGURE SNAPSHOT CONTROLFILE NAME TO 'D:\DB\RMAN_BKP\BACKUPS\SNCFDB.ORA';
    2. I have created a rman_cold_bkp.bat file which has following entry :
    cd c:\oracle10g\bin
    set oracle_sid=DB
    rman target system/*** @D:\DB\RMAN_BKP\SCRIPT\rman_cold_bkp.rcv log=D:\DB\RMAN_BKP\SCRIPT\rman_cold_bkp.log
    exit
    3. Whereas rman_cold_bkp.rcv file contains following contents:
    run
    allocate channel C1 device type disk;
    shutdown immediate;
    startup mount;
    backup database;
    alter database open;
    release channel C1;
    exit
    I did checked it and it;s working fine for me :-)

  • Restore cold backup and RMAN backup

    Hi,
    I have cold backup as well as RMAN backup. But i don't know how to restore the backup.
    Please anybody send, steps or links for restoring both backups.
    Regs,
    Brijesh

    The "script" would depend on how the backup was done.
    A cold backup should be a backup of controlfiles and datafiles.
    Was it done using RMAN ? Or done using an OS command (e.g. "cp" or "tar" or "cpio") ?
    A non-RMAN cold backup can be restored with the same command that was used to create the backup. If the backup did not include the Online Redo Log files, you need to simulate a dummy recovery from the SQL command line (RECOVER DATABASE UNTIL CANCEL ; then CANCEL) and ALTER DATABASE OPEN RESETLOGS.
    If the backup was done using RMAN, you need to
    1. RESTORE CONTROLFILE FROM '/location_of_backuppiece'
    2. ALTER DATABASE MOUNT
    3. RESTORE DATABASE
    4. ALTER DATABASE OPEN

  • Full Hot Backup using RMAN?

    Dear all,
    I want to take a full hot backup every week on sunday and the followings are the commands.
    run
    allocate channel ch1 type disk format '/db/BACKUP/RMAN/backup_%d_%t_%s_%p_%U.bck';
    backup
    incremental level 0
    database
    plus archivelog delete input;
    backup current controlfile;
    backup spfile;
    release channel ch1;
    I have the following questions:
    1) Am I need to define a directory named as "'/db/BACKUP/RMAN/backup_%d_%t_%s_%p_%U.bck", so that the backup copies will put it here,right?
    2) What format needs to be save in where and how to run it on weekly schedule basis?
    3) I saw above script with "channel ch1", can I change it to "channel ch2"?
    I am a beginner using RMAN, please let me know.
    Best Regards,
    amy

    Which database version on which OS (looks like Unix/Linux)?
    You have to create the directory '/db/BACKUP/RMAN', 'backup_%d...' is the filename created by RMAN.
    %d Specifies the name of the database;
    %t Specifies the backup set time stamp, which is a 4-byte value derived as the number of seconds elapsed since a fixed reference time. The combination of %s and %t can be used to form a unique name for the backup set;
    %s Specifies the backup set number. This number is a counter in the control file that is incremented for each backup set. The counter value starts at 1 and is unique for the lifetime of the control file. If you restore a backup control file, then duplicate values can result. Also, CREATE CONTROLFILE initializes the counter back to 1;
    %p Specifies the piece number within the backup set. This value starts at 1 for each backup set and is incremented by 1 as each backup piece is created;
    %U Specifies a system-generated unique filename (default).
    For scheduling a cron job could be defined or you use Enterprise Manager (10g and higher)
    Channel name doesn't matter.

  • How does the Photo Download Backups folder work?

    I am wondering how the Photo Download Backups folder works--does it keep backups for just a certain amount of time? I just recently found this in my Downloads folder when I was cleaning out unncessary files for extra hard drive space. Mine has nearly 60GB so it would be great to clear it out if possible. (I already backup to an external drive.) Thanks for any insight.

    You are talking about two different things:
    Are you downloading the pdf to your computer or trying to view it in your browser? These are two different things. If you are trying to view it in your browser, which browser under which OS? How are you trying to view it. If you are trying to download a pdf, again please list the steps.
    As to conversion to pdf, you use the Save AS Other menu.

    How long does the battery last on a full charge

    Hi Jason,
    The iPod nano (3rd Generation) has a battery life of 24 hours of music playback and 5 hours of video playback. This will deteriorate over time as the battery becomes consumed. Total charge time should be around 3 hours.

  • Is there a fast way of doing the initial TM backup?

    Does anyone know if the first TM backup to Time Capsule can be done by some faster method than wireless ? USB or Ethernet ?
    Thanks - Michael

    You certainly can connect the Mac you want to back up, via ethernet cable, directly to one of the Time Capsule ethernet ports. That would provide an extremely fast connection. Keep in mind that everything you can do via a wireless connection to Time Capsule can also be done - but much faster - via an ethernet cabled connection.

  • Does the Full load really remove previous requests and extract new data?

    We wonder if the Full load does remove the previous requests or data and bring over new data?
    For example, we extract data from a R3 table by using Full load.  1st day, we load data to R3 table, then extract the data to BW, then BW data contains only 1st day data.  2nd day, we delete R3 table data and load data for 2nd day only, then extract to BW still using the Full load, then what BW data should contain?  both 1st day and 2nd day data?  or 2nd day data only?
    Any answer?
    Thanks

    Hi Kevin,
      What data the cube should have should be decided by the business requirement.
      Current data load will delete the existing data only if that option has been selected in the Infopackage, else it is going to get appended.
    You may assign points if helpful ****

    Hello, I got exactly the same problem. I bought two iPod Nano 2 GB one for me and one for my wif and hers was just ok. Mine on the contrary got a message from itunes that was not possible to transfer the musics to my iPod because there was no space on disk. And this without using it. I installed the updater from january 2006, but when trying to connect and update it there's a huge delay and the iPod Nano screen continues with the Do not disconnect message. Then I tried to restore it but it's displaying the same message for more than two hours. I am going to shut the restore dialog box and then disconnect it from windows and try to see how it goes...
    If you have any ideas please give me some help.
