Re-download a purchase?

I pre-ordered and album due for release next week.  The songs that are currently available downloaded but do not show up in my "Purchased" list in my iTunes.  How can I download this purchase again?

Thank you, all!
I've found the option for downloading previously purchased music, but audiobooks and the like are not offered.
This was definitely the right answer from Carlton and Richard, but this type of product isn't available in this fashion from the iTunes Store.
I marked your answeres "helpful", but will go back and try to change them to "Right".
Thanks again!

  • This computer is already associated with an Apple ID (when trying to download family purchases)

On my iMac I have five user accounts: 1 master family, father (me), wife, daughter and son.  For iTunes, the family is used for family sharing and as is the organizer for family purchases.
My son's iCloud account is maintain through the Family account as he is under 13.  I recently set up his user on the family computer and today started to build up his iTunes library so he can sync his iPod.  iTunes was not logged into his iCloud account and had no music (it had not been used before).  I entered his iCloud account and annoyingly it would not recognize the password I had recorded for him so I had to go through iForgot,  Once in I went to family purchases to download a song that I had just purchased on the family account.  It stated that this computer was not authorized to I authorized it using my son's iCloud account. When I went to download it stated:
This computer is already associated with an Apple ID.
You can download past purchases on this computer with just one Apple ID every 90 days. This computer can be used with a different Apple ID in 72 days.
What?  It's a new set up....
I deauthorized the computer and reauthorized it using the family account, as the computer is registered to the family account.  Why I tried to download again I did not get the error about but this time it said the computer was not authorized (even though I just did it).  I appear to be stuck in a cycle of Apple ID association or authorization denial.  I'm a little PO'd.
In the end I did it the old fashioned way and simply dragged in the music using family sharing (as this is switched on).
Beyond having to wait 72 days for the Apple ID to resolve itself is there any other options?  Can I delete the entire user account of the computer and try again?  I'd be willing to do that if I thought it would work...

Not from your end. Click here and ask the iTunes Store staff for assistance.

  • You can download past purchases on this computer with just one Apple ID every 90 days

I have a mac which my fiancee and I share. There are 2 separate accounts and 2 separate apple ids used to buy different music (i.e. we have 2 separate iphones and music collections).
I received the following error (see uploaded image) which states that, "you can download past purchases on this computer with just one Apple ID every 90 days".
Now, when I sync my iTunes and iPhone only some music that I have previously purchases is affected. For some reason they failed to sync with my iPhone and become unavailable in my iTunes ("file cannot be found"). When I deleted the record I saw that it became available for download in iTunes and then discovered this issue.
I have legally purchased the music and just want to be able to sync the files legitimately. It just seems very restrictive to say that you have to have 2 different machines for every account (i.e. you cannot have multiple users on a device with their own accounts which each have their own Apple IDs).

    Hi
No - that is the issue - both my husband and I use the same computer and want to be able to use our individual Apple IDs so can access our download content e.g. I-books that we have purchased through our other MAC devices such as I-Pad.  In the past, we had four people using one computer with no problem regarding Apple ID.   In the newer operating system, we are now restricted to one at a time - it means one of us is blocked out from accessing our content for a period of 90 days.   Have you any suggestions on how we can both use our individual Apple IDs with the same lap-top?  We have set up discrete accounts so we log on to the computer individually.  Many thanks for any help.

  • I am trying to download previously purchased music from iTunes, it show "purchased" in iTunes Store but does not show up under previous purchase tab

There are several albums that I've previously purchased that somehow were deleted from my computer & iPad.  When I go to download available purchases on PC it say that all available punches have been downloaded.  When I check iTunes Store it show as "purchased".  When I try to check & download from iCloud via either iPad or PC these items do not show up under items purchased.
I can't even re-purchase the item, which I've tried since it shows as purchased in iTunes Store.  This is very troublesome because there is no way for me to access these previous purchases.  I have been using iTunes & various Apple products with the iTunes Store for several years & there is a lot of money invested in these previous purchases, that there is no way for me to access.  As mentioned, I'd even be willing to re-purchase some of these items (though this should be unnecessary).  But, the iTunes Store won't let me, because the items show up as purchased in store, but not on any of my devices!!!
    Help!

    Hey innerev2003,
Thanks for the question, and welcome to Apple Support Communities.
If, while searching through your past purchases, items are unavailable to download and show a "Purchased" button, they are still on your computer. It may be best to search your iTunes library by clicking Music, then use the search bar at the top right.
If you are completely sure the items are no longer in your library, try signing out of the iTunes Store, and then back in.

I cant download my purchased music onto my new iPhone 5. I bought almost all my music through iTunes over my phone but it wont let me download "ALL"--I have to go in individually to each album. Can anyone help me figure out how to do a single "ALL" music download?
I even tried synching from mt computer backup but it wont do it.

You can only sync everything with your one syncing computer/iTunes library. Yu can:
    - Make this your syncing computer by:
Syncing to a "New" Computer or replacing a "crashed" Hard Drive: Apple Support Communities
    - Use the manual method to copy music and videos from any computer/iTunes library to the iPod. See the manual method included here:

  • My iPad won't let me download recently purchased apps. It says that I have never bought them.

    Hi,
The other day I upgraded to the latest ios7, and after I did that, the App Store says that I have never purchased or downloaded any apps, and that I have never deleted any. This is annoying because I have spent a fair bit of money on games which I played, but now I want back, but can't get them back unless I buy them again!
If anyone could give me some help as to what to do so that I can re-download my purchased apps, then it would be much appreciated!

You must use the same Apple ID used for the original purchase to re download for free.

  • HT1349 I have a laptop computer with Windows 7, powered intel core i7. I am trying to download a  purchased movie from ITunes. I am on wifi g.  Why is it taking 17 hours to download a simple movie? This is nuts!

Question:  Why when downloading a purchased movie from ITunes does it take 8 to 17 hours to download?  I have an HP Laptop with Windows 7 using a core processer i7.  This is the second day to try to get the movie downloaded and I still cannot watch this movie.  Seems like a problem with ITunes or a scam. I use a IPhone 4 with little issues, But when using this lap top -- it is a joke.

First thing to do is get the CC off your system.  Then try the direct download option linked below...
You can download the trial version of the software thru the page linked below and then use your current serial number to activate it.
Be sure to follow the steps outlined in the Note: Very Important Instructions section on the download pages at this site and have cookies enabled in your browser or else the download will not work properly.

  • I just accidentally wiped out my entire music library.  How can I get apple to help me download the purchased songs again?  The songs went to my recycle bin and I immediately restored them but the files seem to have dissappered!

I just accidentally wiped out my entire music library.  I sent everything to recycling bin and then immediately hit restore all items as I knew what I had just done.  Now I can find where those files went.  Is there anyway Apple can just send me my purchased songs again?

  • HT201253 Iphone 5s not syncing music to phone with itunes 12.0.1.26 - also cannot download full purchased albums, only some tracks

The fun of new updates on my Windows 8.1 laptop and iphone 5S 64gb.
I noticed since my last sync that some tracks had magically been removed - so I wanted to full sync. This couldn't even be instigated unless I deleted all my music off of phone, now it just hangs when syncing - for hours. No updates on how many tracks out of how many tracks have been synced.
Also my purchased albums - I can see them on itunes as whole ones that are purchased, same on iphone.
I then go to iphone to download my purchased items via itunes app, and it only shows some songs. An example is Drake, Game etc. - seems to affect full albums I've bought that are "deluxe" editions.
All the normal/single edition albums seem fine.
Absolutely fantastic, can't get my music onto phone except some purchased items - and even then it doesn't show all my purchases.
Not sure if setting up family share affected things, but it can't even handle the simple tasks let alone downloading content from other users purchasers (which it detects fine ironically). New features but can't do anything that has previously been fine.
Flabbergasted, had one work iphone4s 16gb and 64gb personal previously - no problems with same laptop.
My alienware laptop is very high spec with SSD, so the fault does not lie here - apple related software or product.

It couldn't do over 50gb in one go, had to do two half syncs to get all music on - i think this is limitation of the itunes software - pretty shocking really.

  • HT201272 How do I download previously purchased albums from iTunes when the album has either disappeared from my computer or the tunes are not playable?  The album shows as purchased on the iTunes store, but not available to download to my authorized devi

How do I download previously purchased albums from iTunes when the album has either disappeared from my computer or the tunes are not playable?  The albums show as purchased on the iTunes store, but not available to download to my authorized device.  I also have albums that appear in my library, but are not able to be added to my iPod from my computer

When you download something from the iCloud, it is a brand new licensed copy. Your iCloud account just contains a notation that you have this app. It isn't storing an actual copy of the app from your Mac.

  • I-tunes is downloading my purchase from scratch every time I open it up...

Why is i-tunes downloading my purchase from scratch every time I open it up? This means I can't watch the episode as it freezes after 10 minutes and says it has 12 hours to go until download is complete...
I have also found that the words get out of sync and I have to pause it for it to catch up.  This happened on my old computer but I now have a new one and it is still doing it...

Launch System Preferences and click on the “General” icon
At the bottom of the “Number of recent items” list, uncheck the checkbox next to “Restore windows when quitting and re-opening apps”

  • 'Tricking' the App Store to allow re-downloading a purchase

Hopefully short version of a rather long ordeal:
An app I use recently became available only on the MAS. After paying and downloading it, I discovered that the old version was still installed as a Pref Pane. The developer's site suggested using an uninstaller but warned that it might also remove the new version and one would need to re-download.
What actually happened was very unpleasant and frustrating. The new version did seem to disappear, but only from the Applications folder. Bits and pieces of both the old and new versions remained in various places on my drive. Unfortunately, they also appeared on my external backdrive. These remaining resources seemed to make the MAS think every thing was fine and I should not try re-downloading the app.
The short story: I deleted every instance of any resource for both the new and old versions of the app. Emptied the Trash. Shutdown for the night.
This morning, I disconnected the external drive before starting up. Opened the MAS and was surprised to see every single purchase listed as simply "Install"! Note the lack of the "ed"! MAS was saying I had purchased these apps but that I could now install all of them! I didn't push my luck any further than re-downloading the one app that started this journey!
Things went totally as expected and the app is now successfully running. Finally!
Moral? If you can't get the 're-download' to function, simply do your best to delete and trash any and every resource that app placed on any of your drives, including externals. It may also help to block Spotlight from icluding those backup volumes from its index.
I'm still not sure exactly what the MAS uses to know what is installed, but it obviously reads some info on the drives. This info seems to be the actual app andor any of its resources (inluding plists). I did find what appears to be a new method of recording installs. In previous versions, OS X stored ".pkg" files in your "/Library/Receipts" folder. In Lion, there are a few of those files still there, but there is now a "InstallHistory.plist" file listing at least Software Update and MAS instals. However, its presence doesn't seem to be used by MAS in determining what you may have purchsed. Just an interesting bit of trivia? ;-)
Others have stated that using the 'option' key will allow re-downloading a purchase. That has never worked for me, however. The above method has and the disconnecting of external backups may be critical, also. So, my three-step method for the future will be:
    1. Disconnect external drive(s).
    2. Completely delete any and all resources of the particular app and empty the Trash.
    3. Restart and open the MAS expecting to see "Install" labels and buttons. ;-)
Hope this will save some frustration for others...

    Hello -Tuck-,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
The apps prompting you to sign in with a different Apple ID when updating were purchased with that Apple ID.  You will need to sign in with the Apple ID used to purchase or accept the applications before you can update them.

  • You can download past purchases on this computer with just one Apple ID every 90 days. You cannot associate this computer with a different Apple ID for 90 days.

So i signed into my other itunes account to download some purchase i had made on that account, went to sign back into my new account and download purchases i had made on my iphone adn it tells me "You can download past purchases on this computer with just one Apple ID every 90 days. You cannot associate this computer with a different Apple ID for 90 days.". This is a shared family computer with multiple Apple IDs being used on it. Not cool apple. This needs to be figured out. Not acceptable for families that have more than one apple ID to have to wait 3 months to download old purchases. Get real. Any way i can 'override' this?
