Re DVD Studio Pro 4:  help with color saturation

Re DVD Studio Pro 4:  having trouble with the color saturation on the text of menu buttons.  been using the same method for years, checked opacity of colors.  All of a sudden, the text color is splotchy and looks unprofessional. Clients are complaining and I do not blame them.  Any help?

This issue isn't external drives, it's the mini, and installing the program.

The specs do not seem to require an internal superdrive.

Is DVD Studio Pro 4 compatible with Snow Leopard? Project burns fine, simulates fine, works on my two macs (mac pro & macbook pro networked) but when I put the dvd in to a dvd played hooked to a tv it doesn't recoginize it and says "this disc connot be played"!

It's your set top DVD player that won't play the disk...  That or it's the type of disk that you're using.
    Make sure it's a DVD-R.  That's a MINUS.
They pretty much work in all set top DVD players.
The reason your computers play the dvd's is simply because your computer knows what to do with all types of media.  Something else to consider could be the optical read capability on your computer is better than that of your DVD player.  Perhaps the DVD is a poor quality disk.  You computer can read it because it has a higher quality optical pickup unit.
First things first, take your DVD to a place that sells DVD players and try it in a new player.  That'll tell you whether or not the disk actually works.

  • AVI Files in DVD Studio Pro come out with no sound

I tried putting some AVI files through compressor and then into DVD Studio Pro only...no sound. I've been told I should convert the files but I was wondering if there was any other way I could go about making DVDs out of these AVIs that would play on any player. Why is there no sound? How I make sure there is sound? Totally lost in this instance and any help would be appreciated. Thank you all.

My guess is that you may have the sound files, but not spotted them...
When you encode your video with Compressor it splits out the sound form the video, making 'elementary' streams for DVDSP. This is perfectly normal. In compressor, if you apply a standard preset for encoding you get to choose what sort of audio you want. If you didn't set up your audio encode then you may only have the video after all.
If so, go back to compressor and re-encode and make sure you get the audio out - in AC3 format. Bring that into DVDSP and all will be well.

  • Will DVD Studio Pro 2 work with Quicktime 7.1.2?

    Greetings all ~
Recently purchased a secondhand (and legal!) copy of DVD Studio Pro to run on my G4 iMac running OS 10.3.9. The primary purpose is to burn occasional DVDs of short movie files I'm creating which are visually simple, but have surround sound audio imported from Deck.
When I went to install DVDSP2, I moved too fast and took the manual's advice of updating to the latest version of QT - in this case QT 7.1.2. But the key for QT that came with DVDSP2 is, I discovered, for use with QT6. And as I've learned from other threads, QT 7.1.2 appears to be the only version of QT for which Apple has not made available an uninstaller allowing you to revert to an early version of QT.
From those threads, it appears that one answer is to backup and reinstall OS 10.3.9 with its earlier verison of QT. I'd much much much rather avoid this given all the software I'd need to reinstall.
It would be well worth it to me to pay the $30 to upgrade and get a key to QTPro 7.1.2 — if I knew that it would work with DVDSP2. But from another (unanswered) thread, it looks like there may be compatibility issues.
So ...does anyone know definitively whether or not DVDSP2 will run properly with QT7.1.2 on OS 10.3.9?
Thanks in advance for any help!

    Gary ~
Many thanks for this quick and helpful response. Unfortunately, that uninstaller doesn't seem to work with QT 7.1.2 ... it says it "will remove QuickTime 7.0.1" and when I try it on 7.1.2, which I now have, it tells me "You cannot install this software on this volume. This disk is dimmed because it does not contain an appropriate version of QuickTime."
Any other thoughts? Is my only option to reinstall 10.3.9 with its earlier version of QuckTime?
    Thanks again ...

  • DVD Studio Pro 4 - Compatibility with Snow Leopard

Since installing Snow Leopard I have been unable to start DVD Studio Pro (4.0.3) - it shuts down immediately. I've tried getting the latest update for both Snow Leopard and DVD Studio Pro but that hasn't helped. Any suggestions?

If it worked and is Non-UB eventually issues could crop up, more so as more into the newer versions of the OS come out I would guess. But if you were running the version of DVD SP on your laptop with Snow Leopard and then after the software updates it stopped running, then in all likelihood it sounds like that one of the updates may have broke DVD SP in SL. Which updates did you install and can you roll back the system prior to the new software updates?
Deleting preferences could be something to also try.
    User-> Prefs -> com.apple.dvdstudiopro.plist
You can also try to create another user account to see if that helps.

  • FCP to DVD Studio Pro exporting help needed - desperatey......

    Hi.
Please help me if you can.
I am exporting a Quicktime movie from FCP for DVD Studio Pro 4. I chose the MPEG 4 option in the compression, make it best quality and bounce it. But when I look at the self-contained mov file, every time a person walks across the screen I am getting little lines on the light parts of the screen or a beating or sizzling effect in the dark parts. Basically it looks like everything is "alive" somewhat - objects like curtains seem to sizzle.
Can someone guide me in the proper choices to make when exporting from FCP to import into DVD Studio Pro? There is not an MPEG-2 or M2V option, and the MPEG compression breaks it down to MPEG-2 or M2v upon import into DVD Studio Pro anyway.
I guess I don't know how to get the best quality bounce from FCP, in order to have a file that is less that 4G in size. Can someone please advise?
There are no directions on exporting FOR DVD Studio Pro in the Final Cut books, nor was there a FCP prep covered in the DVD SP books.

Quick workflow from FCP -> DVDSP:
In FCP, File Export QuickTime Movie
Select DVD Studio Pro Markers in the Markers drop-down (leave other settings as is)
Save QT Movie to your preferred location
In DVDSP, import your newly-created QT Movie
(You may want to confirm your encoding settings - both in terms of bit rate and whether
you're encoding on build or have background coding enabled - prior to this step though)
    Best Quality workflow:
In FCP, trash the render files for your sequence
From the Menu, File Export Using Compressor
Now, in Compressor, select the appropriate preset(s): DVD: Best Quality 90 Minutes - 4:3
Optional: Delete the AIFF setting completely
    Select the appropriate destination(s)
Optional: For the Dolby preset, alter Dialog Normalization (under the Audio tab of the Inspector) to -31. In the Preprocessing tab, alter the Compression Preset to None
    Click Submit
Once the encode is done, import the .m2v and .ac3 (and/or .aiff) files into DVDSP
It's only fair to tell you that since this produces (pretty much) the best possible quality from Compressor, it may take as much as 5x-10x as long as the 'quick workflow' detailed earlier. (Especially if you've set DVDSP to do a one-pass encode)

  • DVD Studio Pro 4 USE WITH EXTERNAL DVD BURNER??

    Hello
Looking at buying DVD Studio Pro 4 for my mini but apple have just stated it will not install unless my machine has a superdrive. We've got an external firewire DVD burner and i've read mention of other versions of DVD Studio burning through externals so how come we carnt use DVD Studio Pro 4 with an external DVD burner?
Has anyone tried an external DVD burner with DVD Studio Pro 4 ?
    Cheers

This issue isn't external drives, it's the mini, and installing the program.

The specs do not seem to require an internal superdrive.

  • Please, suggestion about final cut x, dvd studio pro, sound track and color

what to do now, final cut studio cannot exist in same partition of fc x, but at same time fcx does not have anymore dvd studio pro, color and soundtrack, is it replacing the 3 programs? are you really satisfied of it?

Try building the project to your desktop and then open the Video_TS in the Mac DVD player application.
How does it play/sound?  This application is the best way to see and hear how your burned DVD should play vs. just using simulator and burning.
Just to clarify- are you taking your FC QT file into Compressor and creating a MPG-2 and AC3 file or are you bringing your FC QT directly into DSP?
What codec are you exporting from FC? ProRes422, DV, H264?
Open the FC QT in QT and apple+I to see this.
What does it say for audio?

  • DVD Studio Pro Slideshow help.

I'm attempting to make a slideshow and I'm wondering if it's possible to import a slideshow created in iMovie as 1 jpeg?
For example, I want to do a slideshow in DVD Studio Pro with each slide having its own audio. However, I want multiple slides to play over just one audio track. Let's say I have a song by Mariah Carey and want to show different details about the song and album while the song is playing.
I hope I explained it so anyone can understand.

If you want one audio file per slide you can do that in DVD SP. If you want multiple slides for one audio file then you need to create a video, either in iMovie or FCP.

  • Video quality bad when compresed from final cut pro to dvd studio pro. HELP

    Hello,
I have a dvd project im working on and first i tried the video that i captured from final cut to just use in dvd studio pro but that didnt work. then i used the compressor and used the 60min high quality video and that looks even worse. what do u suggest i do?

You must get to know what these settings do to be able to use Compressor. Try using a 10 second test of your video file and encoded at different settings to get a feel for how compression works.
Min 4 and peak at 7, a difference of 3 between min and peak is a good start at CBR, but you must test.
Just like using a video camera, if you use the same exposure setting all the time, most of your pictures will be unuseable, either too dark or too light.

  • DVD Studio Pro Button Help

I created a video menu for my DVD in Final Cut and have imported it and I've put a button over the word "play" so that when you click on it, it will play the track. That's all worked but in the menu the word "play" fades in after a few seconds and with the color highlight on the button, there are a few seconds of the color button on the screen without the text. Is there any way to make the button show up on the screen when "play" fades in rather than have it show up immediately?

Yup. You need to understand how the 'Loop Point' works.
Basically, you add the footage to the menu, and then use the loop point marker to show when the words have appeared. When you add the buttons, they will appear (and be able to be selected, etc) once the loop point has been reached. From then on the menu will play, and as it loops (it will flicker an nothing will be able to be selected) it will return to this point, preventing the fade in each time.
You also need to consider what happens when you are watching a clip and press menu... do you go to the loop point, or should you see the fade in again? If the former, you have to add a simple script to your end jump. If the latter, just point the end jump at the menu.

  • DVD STUDIO PRO 3  (Help, Please)

Have been authoring DVDs using this program for over a year now and have never had problem one with it. Until now...
After compressing and configuring in DSP I use the "Build & Burn" tab to burn the DVD. Several days ago I began to get the following error msg in the log:
The recording device reported the media error: Write error. (0x0C, 0x00.)
My superdrive spits out the DVD and I have been unable to burn using DSP.
Anyone out there have any idea where I'm going wrong?

Just to add. Yesterday I was burning the 37th disk from a batch of 100 with Toast 7. Never had a coaster. Suddenly at the end of the 'lead out' phase, the disk wouldn't finish burning, and the drive started making a wierd noise as if the mechanism wasn't quite able to grab and eject the disk, and an error message appeared suggesting a hard fault. Had to force quit and reboot, and when I did the disk mounted fine on the desktop, would play pefectly and ejected without issue. Tried again with another disk - same thing, although this time no warning dialogue. Tested using a different make of disk - no issues at all. Tested using the problem disks again but this time didn't burn a full disk just 1.5gb data - no issues! So nothing wrong with the drive, but without any noticable indication on the surface of the disks, there seemed to be a problem towards the outer edge that effected the lead out when the file was around 4.4gb. Go figure! Normally if there's an issue with blanks they either aren't seen by the drive at all, reveal themselves either during the burn or during verification.

  • DVD Studio Pro 2 works with new MacBook Pro Intel Duo Core 2?

    Thanks.

If you get it to run you should not count on it working. Even 4.0.x, you need 4.1.x to have anything that is officially supported. I am not sure if 2 evens runs well on Leopard, let alone an Intel Machine.

    • How often do you use the DVD Studio Pro Help

I'm working with DVSP for 4 months, so everytime I don't know how to do something I use the documentation. As the times passes I almost don't need it so often.
    • How do you find what you're looking for in DVD
Studio Pro Help? For example: table of contents,
index, skimming, PDF links, PDF search?
PDF Search, but I think is not the best way to search because it shows too much useless results.
    • What do you like most about DVD Studio Pro Help?
It is powerful and easy to use.
    • What is missing?
A way of editing the DVD Project Source Code. Let me explain: in some big projects I just need to change the Jump from "button_1" to "button_2", and to do that I need to find the button under my menus and choose it from a list. If I can just type "2" instead of "1" it will be faster and error-free.
Advancing in this idea, if I can open the entire link list as a Source Code in TextEdit, I can see all the buttons and link all of them without seeking for each on menus.
Today the Connections Tab helps a lot, but I still need to find the button un the menus. With 5 or 4 menus is easy, but sometimes I have 50...
    • Are there any particular examples of other manuals

    The OSX help is great!

application? For example: provided tutorials and
manuals, third-party tutorials or books, training
    classes?
Manuals, third-party tutorials and discussions foruns.
    • What do you think is the most difficult
feature/concept to grasp in DVD Studio Pro?
    • What's the most frustrating experience you've had
with the DVD Studio Pro Help documentation?
Using scripts. It could be better with a lot of examples. "To do that, try this one".
    • Do you prefer electronic or print documentation?
In electronic is easy to find things.
    • Are there any other delivery methods or media you
    think we should explore?
    • What size computer display do you typically use to
view the onscreen help? For example: 15-inch,
