Re Editing Media Manager Files

I worked on a project a few years back and now need to go back in to my files and re edit something... is it possible to re edit something using my media manager files? I've been able to re import the MM files but whenever I touch the footage or try and do anything FC freezes. Thanks!

Todd, is this an old project with archived media or a new project with archived media? what codec(s) are the clips and what codec is the current sequence set for? you are now working on a G5/InteMac ( ? ) with FCP 5.1.2 (5.2 never existed) ... what hardware/software version were you using when the files were archived? how complex is your sequence, how many sequences do you have open and how much RAM do you have? sorry but we'll only figure out the problem with the copious application of pertinent details.
Cheers

  • Media Manager won't load

I just got a new curve 8320 and I've installed the Blackberry Desktop Manager v 5.0.1.18
It connects to my BB fine via usb cable but in Add/Remove Applications, it comes up blank with the message "No software is available for your device".
Also, when I try to install the Media Manager, it gets stuck at "downloaded 59.7MB out of (unknown)" and then the loading box just disappears. I've tried just reclicking the Install button and the same things happens.
I've tried to look online for the Media Manager file to download separately but nothing came up.
If someone could help me out that would be great. Thanks so much!

    Hi there!
    A couple of thoughts...
5.0.1.18 is an older version of DTM -- it is up to 5.0.1.28...I suggest you try the most recent version.
Media Manager -- only use a version of DTM/MM if you absolutely must. MM can be problematic and, if you don't need it, then grab a DTM version without MM.
There is no separate MM to DL -- the DTM package you grab (with or without MM) determines what you will have.
You might want to try these clean re-start instructions:
I suggest the following steps (insert plenty of reboots of your PC...not just restarts, but full power down reboots). Also, it is advised that you be logged into the PC on an account with full admin rights. Further, under Vista/Win7, use the "Run As Administrator" option for everything.
    1) Remove your device OS update package from your PC (add/remove programs)
    2) Cleanly uninstall the RIM DTM software:

Choose the version that is newest and (if applicable) compatible with your PIM (if you are synchornizing via USB):
KB12268 Applications supported by BlackBerry Desktop Manager for synchronization
    4) Download (to your PC) a fresh copy of your device OS package from your carrier:
    http://na.blackberry.com/eng/support/downloads/download_sites.jsp
    5) Install DTM to your PC
    6) Install (also to your PC), the device OS package
    7) Start the organizer configuration over:

Hopefully that will get things going again.

  • What ports do I open for Media Manager?

I'm having trouble getting my Media Manager files seen by my DVRs (QIP-7232s). I have enabled such services that allow me to remotely admin my DVRs from the web, so I know they can be seen on the network. But I cannot get them to see the MM server running on my network.
I have a second router between my ActionTec and my XP Pro (32 b) server running Media Manager and holding all my video files. This is the routher that serves the IP addresses for my network.
Installing Media Manager seemed to go well. No errors.
However, none of my DVRs can locate the Media Manager and the contained files. I suspect I need to open a port or two on the 2nd router to allow the Verizon MoCA router access to the MM application.
Does any one know what ports I need to open?

Wow, this makes me want to pull my hair out..
    It shouldn't be this difficult
I think I'm going to remove my router and just go with the ActionTec.
When I have more time (and patience) I'll go back into the world of port fowarding.
    Thanks!

  • Can't drag any files to blackberry from computer using media manager

Just got my Blackberry Curve out of the box today and got it all set up.  I am now trying to drag some files over using Media Manager on the desktop manager.  I have my blackberry connected to the computer.  I open Media manager and see My computer options on the left and my blackberry connected on the right.  I located my file in my computer side.  Highlight it and try to drag it into the blackberry memory, but it won't let me.  I also can't use the arrow buttons to transfer it.  They don't "light up."  They just stay gray.  Did I miss something in installation?  I have tried MP3's, word docs, excel docs, etc.  It is not taking anything...

I have found that installing the OS for your device alleviates this problem, but if you have a microSD card in your BlackBerry it is easier to just open up the My Computer icon and just drag and drop into the appropriate folders.

  • Reconnecting Audio Files after Media Manager

Please forgive me if this has been covered before, but I'm not seeing a specific answer to the issue I'm having. I recently decided to do some cleanup on my machine, and used Media Manager to backup a project. When I reopened that project a TON of the files were no longer connected, and I've had to dig through the computer and reconnect them one at a time. The issue I am having now is with the audio files that exist in FCP as STAP files. I can find the stap files, but they are no reconnecting properly. I've tried to just simply re-render the audio, but it just comes out blank. Here is a screen capture of what I'm seeing. http://www.moorecreativedesign.com/FCP_Capture.jpg - Also If I try to right-click and "open in editor" it gives me an Unknown File error.
    Message was edited by: jesmo71

I think the problem is that the .STAP file are SoundTrackPro project files, which look for the original audio files.
But I guess you removed them or at least removed the disc they are on.
    That's why they render empty.
Media Manager doens't work on SoundtrackPro files (or Motion files for that matter). The proper way to handle these situations is
either export selfcontained movies from Motion, or audiofiles from SoundtrackPro and edit those in your timeline and THEN do the Media Manager,
or backup your Motion Projects and SoundtrackPro projects with all their assets along with the Media Management from FCP.
A nice [feauture request|http://www.apple.com/feedback/finalcutpro.html] would be to have Media Managaer handle all assets from the Final Cut Studio Suite.

  • 16bit uncompressed video files to large what media manager setting is best

    Hi all,
I am working with some uncompressed video clips they come in at 25 gb a clip. These are profesional animation clips I am looking to save some disk space and still get near the same quality. I am editing the clips for mobile use so i need to start with a high quality master. any suggestions for what settings i should use with media manager.
    Thanks

    Why .avi?
Final Cut Pro works with QuickTime .mov files.
The video card in your MacBook Pro will be fine. The way to avoid rendering is to make sure that your Easy Setup and Sequence Settings match your source material.

  • Example of workflow using media manager and files with 5DMkII

    Greetings,
I hope someone can shed some light on this problem. I am trying to figure out how to take files from the 5DMkII(apple proRes 422) and edit low rez files on a laptop and port them back to a desktop for final hi res finishing? I've read around but I am still confused. haven't found any difinitive answers yet nor a complete tutorial on Media Manager. Please help.

  • No edit option in Media Manager for 8100??

I haven't really received any response from the Software thread so I thought I'd try my luck here to see if anybody else has had a similar problem after installing all the software for the 8100.
Ok, so a quick overview of what I have installed:
    O/S: Windows Vista Ultimate
    BB Desktop Manager v4.5
Be sure to keep in mind that I have tried the Desktop manager v4.2, 4.3, and 4.4 and have the same problem with all versions.
    The Issue:
I can't edit any audio files in the Media Manager software. Everything appears to install properly with no issues, especially after I disabled, Windows Defender, and the Firewall. The media manager software is able to find all of my media files on my computer, and is able to play/view them all as well. However, when I try to edit an audio file that I want to make into a ringtone, the "Edit" option is greyed out and I am unable to select it. This is the case with the v4.5. In previous versions where the user is supposed to select "Edit with QuickSound Editor," that option does not even appear in any of the drop down menus.
I have completely uninstalled any previous versions and even selected the install to "Run as admin..." in Vista, but I am still not able to select the "Edit" option to create ringtones.
Any help would be greatly appreciated as I have been picking at my brain for the last few days.

Its just my opinion, but Roxio Media Manager blows chunks. I use Audacity instead, and it free.

  • Premiere and Media Encoder will will no longer export my edit to any file format.

This is on a Windows 8.1 PC.
The edit exported fine until I made one big mistake.
I created a Nested Edit to make a quick alteration.
Since then the following is now the case and I cannot go back to an earlier edit to fix this.
Premiere and Media Encoder will will no longer export my edit to any file format. Using either the Export Option or Media Encoder.  Get a dialog that says "Unknown Error Compiling Movie"
There is nothing wrong with my footage.  This edit worked fine and I export through Media Encoder many times until I made a Nested Edit within the Premiere Project.
I have tried all sorts of searches on the net for a fix to this but nothing seems to be current or indeed works.
Any help would be appreciated as this is a show stopper.

Thanks for the reply Mark, appreciated.
I have found a work around but it still leaves a long term issue for Adobe to fix.
    As to your first solution:
1).  The nested edit is already in its own timeline panel.  It will not export or encode via media encoder.  This is the problem.
2).  I will try the KEM roll feature but I have a work around see following.
3).  No I do not have a nested edit within a nested edit.
I did a lot of research on the net on this issue as it happened to a colleague of mine on his machine about two weeks ago.  It took me six hours to get a fix and in his case there were six video clip that had read errors.  When I overwrote those clips from the original backup master it fixed the problem.  However I was never able to use Media Encoder again to export his project without it failing.  I could only use the Export feature.  Again he had used a nested edit in his project.
I my case I do not have any nested edits within a nested edit.  All I did was drag my main edit onto the New Sequence icon at the bottom of the Project Bin.  This of course created a nested edit in a new Timeline Panel which is what I wanted.  I then slid the entire nested edit to the right in the timeline by two seconds as all a wanted to do was add two seconds of black at the head of the edit.  That was it.  From that point of creating the nested edit Media Encoder and the Export option failed every time with the fore mentioned error.
The final work around was one of those I found previous mention of during my research.  I created a new clean Premiere Pro CC 2014 project, I then used the import option under the file menu.  I imported only the original main edit which brought in that edit along with all the required footage.  This would then export to disk using the Export feature.  However, Media Encoder will still not encode this new edit, it fails the same way every time, 'Unknown Error Compiling Movie'.
As a test I loaded the old corrupt edit project back up and deleted the nested edit sequence completely and re-saved it.  This had no effect and did not fix the problem.  This particular project file will no longer export directly or via media encoder at all no matter what I do.
This seems pretty serious to me.  I worked on this edit for a whole month without issue, encoding out roughs as a went without any issue, it was only yesterday after I made the nested edit that the project file is now useless as it will not encode out at all.  Yes I have a work around and was able to salvage my project and get it rendered in time for my deadline but the fact I have a partially working Project that Media Encoder will not touch does not instill me with confidence for long term use of Premiere Pro if this is going to happen again.
Is there some place I can send this project file to Adobe to see if they can find out what is wrong with it?  I am not the only person having this issue I have seen other post going all the way back through CS6 it seems.

  • Using Media Manager to 'Make Offline' it re-names media files to 'Private'

For some reason Media Manager is changing the name of media files when processing them making it impossible to reconnect them.
My director always has a complete copy of our film's media files on his 'home set-up' (FCP 5.0 on a Powerbook with 2 x 500gb firewire drives) so he can look at our cuts at home. This has caused problems in the past with firewire drives expiring or failing to mount: making the whole process pointless. Also, as the amount of footage increased, he struggled to find space for the 6-8 drives required.
My solution was to down-convert our DV resolution media files to Photo-Jpeg resolution which allowed me to fit 3TB of footage onto 2 brand new G-Tech drives. Every time I sent him a cut to view all I had to do was use media manager to make the sequence offline and convert it to exactly the same Photo-Jpeg setting I used to export the files. All he has to do is reconnect the sequence to his drives at his end.
A wonderful plan except when you came to reconnecting. I found that 95% of clips connect perfectly and then you get asked for the location of some media files called 'Trashes' 'Applications' or more commonly, 'Private'. Obviously no such files existed - I use an impeccably organised and structured filename system when capturing. Therefore it made random clips in my sequence impossible to reconnect once it had been converted to the settings used by the director.
When this only happened once or twice I thought I could easily just work out what files it was actually looking for by the clip names on the timeline and tell FCP to reconnect to the correct file by ignoring the file name but this is so time consuming and impractical when you have 20/30 clips that have been renamed on a sequence. It is also not the sort of thing my director is technically capable/willing to do.
It also seems to be happening when you convert things in the other direction. When I took a sequence from the director's project and brought it back onto my system by converting his sequence to my DV-PAL settings we got the same problems with 'Private and 'Applications' clips. And we know for sure that all of these clips were online on his computer.
Has anyone seen this before or know any steps I could take to prevent it happening.
I fear that if I can't get this method to work I will have to give him full resolution media to work with and I will be fated to spend the rest of my days replacing. smashing or swearing at firewire drives that only work when they feel like it.
    Anybody got any ideas.
    Cheers
    Paul
    Powerbook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

haven't tried this but it may be worth some investigation.
try exporting an XML of your sequence and passing that to the director
on the director's FCP setup, import the xml, and in the Import XML... window uncheck the "Override with setting from XML" checkbox, and choose the approriate offline res that matches the directors media.
see if the resulting sequence will reconnect

  • How do I include Motion files in FCP "media manager" exports?

All files with a .mtn do not transfer correctly when I use media manager to duplicate a project: I get the red-dotted frame and even when I try to reconnect the frame, once rendered, remains black. I was wondering if there is a way to export Motion files there were created by exporting from FCP and "embedded" in Motion.
    Thank you for the help!

~/Titles.localized/Show Effects/Show/Lower 3rd/Lower 3rd.moti“ is the Motion file that is being used.  I was able to replace the file and when I open a project all of the lower thirds are there except they are all missing the names and titles.  I
I parsed through the .fcpevent file and found the following which seems to set the title in the effect.  Its pointing to an object with an id of 2.  But how do you get the title in the new Motion file to be the same object so that it will fill in correctly??

  • Media Manager and .motn files

    Hi all,
I am having a strange problem....I have Media Managed a number of projects, and they have .motn files (either media that was on the timeline, sent to Motion, modified, then saved, OR, I used a Master Template in FCP that I made in Motion). When I open the MM'd project on my computer everything is fine, but on a different computer, FCP cannot find the .motn file. I assume it is because the template or associated files are on my system, but I would hope that Media Manager would create a .mov from that .motn file so it can open on a different system. Does anyone have any experience with this issue?
    Thanks,
    Dave

Great explanations, but I want to make sure my workflow is sound before tossing something. Given that this is an integrated suite, I'm not too comfortable needing to do the following, so please correct me if I am wrong, or share the better way. After I Media Mange my Final Cut project, I need to:
    1) create a new folder called "media" inside the "media" folder Media Manager created.
    2) drag and drop the motion media from the media folder(s) created with "Copy to Folder" (explained above) into the media folder I just created.
Question: Is my assumption correct that I do not need to drag and drop things like "wisp04," "basic blur" or "texture 01"? If so, why on earth are they included?
If this is the workflow, I shutter to think how many people have lost media files because they assumed incorrectly everything was being collected via FCP Media Manager. Is there a step-by-step somewhere that you can point me to? Bonus questions: Can you speculate the reason or advantage of doing it this way? Do you think Apple should improve it? Thanks!

  • Using Media Manager to Cut up Long Media Files

After reading the chapters in the manually quite thouroughly, I still can't make Media Manager to do what I want it to. I need several long media files broken into smaller files, for use in soundtrack pro.
I captured 17 Tapes worth of footage from start to stop, and then logged them and turned individual shots and taks into subclips. After importing each subclip into SoundTack Pro, I realized that it will import the entire original media, and not just the sub clip, thus I decided that I needed to break up all my actual media files, into smaller files. (If there's a way around this, seeing as how working in SoundTrack with an individual Takes audio is my goal, I'd love to hear about it)
So, I tried to use media manager. I set it up with "use existing" media selected, "Delete unsed media from selected clips" selected, "base media files on" set to clip names, and did NOT select duplicate selected clips and place into a new project. I did NOT use handles.
After it was done processing, it did not break the files into individual takes (the way the subclips were made) like I wanted it to. It did break the files down smaller, but it includes multiple takes and multiple shots in each file.
Can someone please point me in the right direction as to what I need to do? Or, if someone can show me a work around for the using subclips in SoundTrack pro (I know this is not the SoundTrack pro Forum) then I would do fine using the clips how they are.
    Thanks for your time.

You really need to go to the Final Cut PRO forum.

  • Media Manager not collecting all files to new destination - Why?

    Specs: 10.5.8 / Final Cut Pro 6.06 / Dual Quad Tower -
So here's the conundrum. We've got a lot of video projects to backup (about 80) and move to another drive.
When we go to media manager and ask it to copy files over to a new destination, it grabs MOST of the files associated with the project. But without fail, it will not grab and copy all of the files that were sent to Soundtrack Pro. Any STAP file on Final Cut Pro's timeline gets left behind.
    Why is this?
Here's a screen cap of our settings...
    http://www.kchtenthusiasts.com/webpics/mediamanager.jpg
Any and all suggestions appreciated. Thanks!

Media Manager won't solve this for you; it's a game. You will need to manually locate and move tons of stuff like photographs, music tracks, movies from After Effects or Motion' almost anything FCP did not actually create.
You must carefully test each of your MM files. Very carefully.
Instead of relying on MM, ere's another possibility: Just clone your scratch/render/output drives and then remove stuff not associated with the projects. Then copy the FCP project files to the drives. This sometimes works for us because many of our projects use the same footage, over and over again. If we were using MM, we'd be copying the same stuff many times. If we just clone the drives the copies of the FCP projects easily relink to the footage in whatever source folder it might live.

  • Media Manager not bringing along .aep file

    Hi,
In CS5.5., I use the media manager to make a trimmed copy of my project for archiving (I select all the sequences) yet it won't bring along any after effects files (.aep) that were used in the premiere project. The end result is a trimmed copy sans any .aep files, so for now I bring the .aep files in manually but is there a reason/solution to this?
    Thank you

is there a solution to this?
Yes.  Use the proper tool for the job.  For file management, you use a file manager, not an NLE.  That means Explorer or Finder.
