According notebook specification both notebook models have absolutely identical displays so you can use it.

Equium A210: broken screen

Hi,
I have a Equium A210 and yesterday when i switched it on the backround on the screen was broken.
You can see the ink where it has broken.
I've gone back to where i bought it (its only 2mths old) and they wont do anything about it because its not covered and I rang and will cost nearly 400.
Has this happened to anyone as it wasnt dropped and nothing fell on it. HELP!!!!

Hi,
thats normal that they wont repair under warranty. This case has nothing to do with warranty, since its a physical damage of the screen and not something electrical.
In your case I would firstly thinkabout who has also access to your machine (father, sister, friend, girlfriend, bla..) and ask them if they laid something on the LCD.
If not, then your next step would be to send the machine to an Authorized Service Provider and ask them for a checkup. Maybe it was some kind of stress crack which was caused trough some wrong assembling in the factory (which is almost impossible but its an theory).
Please go to the Toshiba Homepage and then go to -> Support & Downloads -> Support Homepage -> Repairs & Servicing -> Find an Authorized Service Provider
and search for the nearest Service Partner in your country.
Call them, talk with them and send the machine to them if the demand it.

Equium A210 - CMOS battery replacement possible?

My Toshiba Equium A210-1C4 appears to be having a CMOS battery problem in that it does not keep the BIOS settings.
I have bought a replacement main power battery and a/c adapter to rule out a/c power issues but the POST beaps and CMOS keeps coming up a Checksum error and once in the BIOS and save settings it boots successfully but if the laptop restarts or is switched off it does it all over again. I have also updated the BIOS successfully so it is not the BIOS chip. The only thing I can think of is replacing the CMOS battery - can this be done?
I have read that some are soldered on? Would Toshiba service this laptop to replace the CMOS battery / check for faults - if so, how much would it cost, or can someone else do it as the laptop is out of warranty.
Any advice please?

As far as I know some batteries are fixed/soldered on mainboard and cant replace but I think only a notebook technician can give you a detailed answer.
Normally you can charge the CMOS battery if you leave the AC/DC adaptor connected over night or in best case 24 hours. After this the battery should be fully charged.

Foam sheet between keyboard and screen, Replacement?

I'm wondering if anybody knows if this has a part number ? and where can
I get one ?
I'm wanting to know if I can get a factory replacement of the thin foam sheet
that is part of the packing materials that goes between the keyboard and screen.
You know, when your Powerbook was new, when you opened the lid
for the first time, there was that thin foam sheet over the keyboard, speakers,
trackpad the whole surface area. I guess it's more like the foam is the size of
the whole screen area, to protect the screen.
This may seem silly to want to replace this, but I have a PowerBook that's coming
up on 3 years old and every time I have closed the lid (screen) I have put the thin
foam in to protect the screen. So, the screen is perfect after 3 years.
Much different than my co-workers PowerBooks. They didn't see any
need for this foam and didn't use it and their screens are etched / scratched from
the keys, mirror images of the keys scratched into their screens.

I'm not sure if Apple assigns part numbers for their packing materials, but you could either visit your local Apple store to see if they happen to have any of these lying around, or you could purchase a screen protector to do the job.
I used the foam sheet for a few years, but lost it recently, so I went out and bought an iKlear Cleaning kit which included a polish cloth which is the size of the keyboard and trackpad area, and I find it does a fine job of protecting the screen.

Yes you can. With all that's wrong you'd be better off replacing it with a refurbished iPod cost is about 1/2 new. Contact Apple Genius Bar set up an appointment. Good luck.

Equium A210 - the screen just goes completely blank

Hi there,
I've recently purchased this laptop and I am generally happy with it. However a few times, the screen just goes completely blank (black screen) preventing me to do anything. I end up having to turn it off manually and restart it. Does anybody know why this happens or has anybody else experienced this problem?
If not how do I get this problem to Toshiba, is there a specific e-mail address?

I have registered similar issues on different notebook series running Vista. Its no matter what series it is.
Im sure its a Vista issue and should be solved with the new SP1.
But note; the SP1 is not official released and I would recommend waiting till an final version was published.
I read that the SP1 beta version makes some troubles and is not fully compatible with some drivers.

got in touch with pc world about battery. They said I have to buy a new 1 because they are classed as consumables, even though the laptop is still in warranty

Warranty covers the battery for just one year (12 month).
So if your battery is older then 12 month the warranty will not cover the battery replacement and if you need a new one then you will have to pay for the battery.
But I think you could also contact the ASP in your country for more details. The guys should be helpful.

My computer was working fine, i shut it down, the next time i start up it shows the windows loading screen, then for a second a blue screen flashes by, it restarts and repeats, i shut it down and started tapping F8 untill the advanced boot options comes up, safemode ect... none of them work and all lead to the blue screen, if i select the repair option at the top "Repair Your Computer" it begins to load with a vista background and cursor and then shows the error "The installed program cannot start. click OK to turn off the computer."
in Advanced Boot Options i try "Disable automatic restart on system failure" and the blue screen stays up so i can see it, it shows a usual blue screen error, reading:
UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME
STOP: 0X000000ED (0X85DDA600, 0XC000009C, 0X0000000, 0X0000000)
I do not have a recovery CD as i believe there is a recovery partition, but i don't know how to access this-
I am using Equium A210-1AS

In my opinion the case is clear: If you cant start the HDDrecovery feature (btw, its not a recovery partition!!!) using Repair my Computer option, you need the Toshiba recovery disk to reinstall it and get factory settings back.
Im wondering that you dont have a recovery disk. You didnt create it? So you didnt read the user manual but this should always be done before you do something with computers.

I'm sorry your pictures appear different in your gallery sillyymom. I know its frustrating with viewing important images. Are you using a 3rd party picture application? do you have any apps that may be conflicting with your pictures. Have you tried to review your picture settings?

I'm assuming you can..now I don't know the prices for your area, you'll have to check around, I just did a quick web search and I'm pulling all sorts of prices up, I'd look into a repair facility near you and see what they can do for you :-) shouldn't be too expensive though! Good luck!
