Re: Equium L40-14l - System recovery option missing

Hi All
I have a Equium l40 14l that I've finally decided needs to be restored to " out of the box " status.
I can boot to the system recovery option page but the widely mentioned HDD recovery option has been replaced by Restoring the Complete Windows Operating System option.
When I select that all it does is tell me that if preinstalled files are damaged you can use the product recovery dvd-rom. All I can do is click OK and return to the previous screen.
I've run some partitioning software and the hidden partition shows up there. I didn't get a recovery disc with the machine as it had the hidden restore partition.
I didn't make a back up when I first booted the machine. I'm thinking now that it would have been a good idea but as I thought I had the hidden partition to rely on I didn't bother.
Any ideas if there's a way I can get the system recovery to show the option for HDD recovery?
Thanks in advance Tom

Guess what I found?
A product recovery disc. I've re-installed and am now in the process of removing all the junk that comes with it.
Happy days :-)
Cheers Tom

  • I can't accessed system recovery options after the repairing process was interrupted.

although it's not my PC, i'm still concern about it (it's actually a public computer in our library). I actually tried to repair it using the system recovery options of windows 7 with thinkvantage technoliogies  but i interrupt it because maybe someone will caught me and i will be mistakenly be liable. and the result is after i restared it, it restarts over and over again, with BSOD appearing for a split second. i tried to use disable autorestart on system failure feature, and i saw the BSOD. but the real issue is i can't go through the recovery options, only until the part when i'm asked to select a keyboard input method, then the next part is this message: "You must log in to access System Recovery Options. If you are having trouble logging in, please contact your computer administrator for assistance. Click OK to restart the computer." anyway, this is the BSOD says:
A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.
If this is the first time you've seen this stop error screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps:
Disable or uninstall any anti-virus disk defragmentation  or backup utilities. Check your hard drive configuration, and check for any updated drivers. Run CHKDSK /F to check for hard drive corruption, and then restart your computer.

I hope this problem will be solved as much as possible.  thank you in advance. and i also don't know what model of this Lenovo all-in-one PC is. but i think this is 3318F9U, and its i forgot its BIOS version, and i don't know how to access it. and also, i'm not sure if there's a preloaded Superfish in this all-in-one PC, maybe the vulnerability started it. because i recently read an article regarding the Superfish's vulnerability.

If you haven't burned a Windows 7 System Repair disc, download one by scrolling down to the link Windows 7 System Repair Disc 64-bit here.
Create a Windows 7 System Repair Disc
Then try a Startup Repair and a System Restore from the Windows Recovery Environment.
What are the system recovery options in Windows 7?
Let us know how it goes.

  • ThinkPad Edge unable to use System Recovery Options

I am helping a friend with a laptop problem. The HDD has had problems in the past and already been restored once. Now it won't boot and I'm unable to access the f8 boot options in order to use Safe Mode. I was able to boot using Kaspersky, but it doesn't show the whole HDD and files.
I've given up trying to access files and just want to try to get the PC working again. I tried using the System Recovery Options and doing a restore, but after it launches I get a message that says "You must log in in order to access System Recovery Options."
    Any suggestions? Thanks!

Good day and welcome to the community.
It may help others provide advice with a bit more information about the system you're working on. TP Edge model, windows version, etc.
    Cheers.

  • System recovery options loop

This morning my wife's Satellite 100 running Windows Vista got itself into a System Recovery loop with absolutely no discernible way of getting out of it. So I'm turning to you guys to see if any one has had the same problem.
First the system shut down (battery problem). She restarted it and on loading Vista got a message box with the heading "System Recovery Options", just an OK button and the message "This program cannot be loaded click OK to restart" or something to that effect. Doing anything switches the machine off.
I tried F8 on start up and all the options in the recovery menu (including the Repair System tools) restart Vista and arrive at the same message.
I've searched Toshiba's support site and found nothing.
I have a recovery disk but that would reformat the hard disk and she has lots of stuff not backed up.
I suspect that it is going into Recovery Mode and finding a disk error on the "hidden partition". So I just want to stop it doing that so that I can start the machine and backup the files. Any ideas?

    Hi buddy,
Can you start Windows in safe mode?
I think in worst case its necessary to reinstall Windows if it doesnt start anymore. I mean there is nothing what you can do
Im wondering that you didnt make a backup of these important files Anyway, you can backup them if you put the HDD in an external HDD case. Then you can connect it to another computer and make a backup before reinstalling Windows.

  • System Recovery Options in Windows 7 (MBP and Parallels)

I realize it is probably debatable (perhaps at best) if this belongs here but I have borked my Windows 7 installation on my MacBookPro running Snow Leopard and I now see this after opening Parallels and either starting or shutting down the virtual machine:
    http://dl.dropbox.com/u/15285654/Screen%20shot%202011-11-25%20at%2011.13.16%20AM .png
I am trying to follow some system recovery recommendations and I can't quite figure out if I need to hold down "Fn + F8" upon a Restart of the Virtual Machine - or if I should put the install Disk in and then somehow /boot/ to the CD Rom or what:
    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/What-are-the-system-recovery-options -in-Windows-7
If anyone has any advice I'd love to fix this problem without a full re-install of Win 7.
    Thanks.

Thanks - but I can't seem to install it! Even in compatibility mode. I get an error box telling me to check nothing else is running (...), and a message saying it has encountered error code -6003.
Could this have something to do with me running Windows 7 x64?
    Thank you...

  • Windows Server 2008 R2 System Recovery Options - No disks!

    Hi,
    I have a Windows Server 2008 R2 VM running on CITRIX XenCentre v5.6 SP2.
The XenCentre host is a HP ProLiant DL 580 G7.
The VM's C:/ is hosted on a SAN which is controlled by DataCore SANSymphony-V PSP2.
I need to perform some work to resolve an underlying issue with the 2008 VM which requires me to perform a 'System Recovery'. When I do this however I am presented with the attached screen shot which lists no drives to repair.
Looks like 'Load Drivers' is the way to go but what drivers am I supposed to load? Xen drivers? DataCore drivers? Generic drivers? anyone know?

  • Recovery option missing from ThinkVantage boot menu

On my x220 I installed an mSATA hard drive in addition to the built-in disk. I re-installed Windows 7 and all of the Lenovo utilities onto the mSATA drive, then deleted the 100mb system and primary Windows partition from the spinning disk. I did not touch the RnR partition.
Now when I press the blue ThinkVantage button during start-up, recovery is not one of my choices. I cannot get into the recovery partition. What steps are necessary to re-enable this feature?
Thank you. Screenshots below show the in-tact recovery partition, and my menu of choices when I press the ThinkVantage button

Did you install the mSATA using recovery discs from Lenovo or make a clean install?
As the F11 is the only option which is missing, and the only option which is not a direct BIOS command and must be in the Master Boot Record, my guess is that your BIOS / MBR don't know that it should show the message or even know that the recovery partition exists.
How you sort that all out is unknown to me, not one of my skills. Maybe install the mSATA from recovery discs which would then also locate the recovery partition also on the mSATA or somehow edit the MBR which I definitely don't know how to do???

  • Equium L40-14L - Wont boot up

My laptop crashed and now wont boot up just comes up with disc read error.
I have tried the recovery disc but this goes as far as choosing the language then seems to crash again any thoughts as to what the problem is?

    Hi buddy,
You wrote that your notebook crashed but what happened exactly? Did you get a BSOD or did it shut down immediately?
At the moment I assume your HDD is maybe faulty because you got a disk read error and you can install Windows from the Toshiba recovery disk.
Have you checked the HDD with a diagnostic tool like Drive Fitness Test?

  • ThinkVantage Button takes me to System Recovery after HDD partition

    Hello,
    I recently purchased a W520 with 4GB of RAM.
I bought 3 more sticks of 4GB each, installed them and everything was fine. I also shrunk the C: drive and created a new drive (D:\) from the space I saved after shrinking the volume.
When I start the laptop and want to go into the BIOS setup by pressing the blue ThinkVantage button, it does not go to the BIOS setup. Rather it goes through to the system recovery options.
What gives? How do I go to the BIOS setup?
    Thank you in advance.

Yep. that worked... Silly me. Thanks

  • How do you Stop Booting to System Recovery

I have a ThinkeCentre that boots to System Recovery Options.   The hard drive was full and I cleared space and ran repairs.  If I hit Enter on the BIOS splash screen I get the boot menu and hit F11 then the system boots the OS (Windows 7) and works fine.
My question is how do I stop the system from automatically booting into the System Restore Options and Boot the OS instead?  Is there a flag that I can reset or something?
    Thanks,
    -Nathan

In Lion, you use the same keystroke to start and stop text-to-speech. By default it is set as Option-Esc, but can be changed in the Speech prefs pane in System Preferences. The behavior in Snow Leopard should be similar.
Edit - - Just confirmed via booting into 10.6.8 that the behavior in Snow Leopard is the same. Exception - there is no default setting for the start/stop keystroke, so one must entered in System Preferences > Speech > Text to Speech.

  • HP system recovery selection problem

I installed windows 8 on my HP Envy Spectre XT and now i want to roll back to windows 7 that came with my device. I dont have any recovery discs and HP does not provide one. I have the recovery partition still there and I can boot into it, but I cannot select the option for System recovery and Minimised Recovery. All i can select is the windows based recovery.
Others seems to be disabled. Please provide me with a solution to enable the System Recovery option.

When requesting assistance, please provide the complete model name and/or product number of the HP computer in question. HP/Compaq makes thousands of models of computers that are all different. Without this information it may be difficult or impossible to assist you in resolving your issue.
When you first setup your computer, you were given many opportunities to create your own personal set of HP Recovery Discs as recommended by HP. If you failed to create these discs and installed a new operating system on your computer, you may not be able to use the recovery partition . Since you cannot select the "System" or "Minimised" recovery options, I would guess that some needed information is no longer available for the recovery partition to work correctly. The only way to recover your computer while in this state, would be to use a set of HP Recovery Discs.
