Re: Equium M70-364 wont boot

Hi there i have a Equium laptop and it will not boot. When i press the power button i get the Toshiba sign then a blank screen. A few seconds later it goes back to the toshiba screen. I have tried a different hard drive but this still does the same thing. I can get into the bios and have checked that it is set to boot from the hard drive and not anything else. But this has me stumped as to what might be the cause of the problem. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi monkeybhoy,
Thats strange... Either its related to current installed Windows version but I doubt this because you have tried different HDDs or its a hardware malfunction.
If its possible to get the recovery disk, it would be great because so you can make sure if its hardware related or not. Toshiba recovery disk will restore factory settings but only software based. That means you have the same settings, drivers and tools as you purchased the notebook.
If recovery disk cant solve the problem, you should ask a notebook technician for help. It could be everything, RAM, mainboard, CPU, etc.

  • Equium L40-14L - Wont boot up

My laptop crashed and now wont boot up just comes up with disc read error.
I have tried the recovery disc but this goes as far as choosing the language then seems to crash again any thoughts as to what the problem is?

    Hi buddy,
You wrote that your notebook crashed but what happened exactly? Did you get a BSOD or did it shut down immediately?
At the moment I assume your HDD is maybe faulty because you got a disk read error and you can install Windows from the Toshiba recovery disk.
Have you checked the HDD with a diagnostic tool like Drive Fitness Test?

  • Equium A100-549 wont boot properly

On the other day, my Equium A100-549 suddenly couldn't be booted. When the power is ON, there is no anything coming out on the screen (totally dark!). I have noticed the hard derive's light is not on, though the other lights are on.
I tried to boot with the recovery CD, but nothing came out, even F12 or "C" was pressed following the power on press.
I am suspecting that there would be a malfunction of the hard drive, but no any experience to judge this.
It would very appreciated for any advice.
    Cheers.
    Ning

    I'm sure it's not a HDD malfunction.
If the HDD would malfunction, then you would receive an error message that the OS cannot be booted up or something like that.
If you don't see anything on the display and if the Toshiba splash screen does not appear too, then I??ve got a bad news for you buddy.
In most cases the motherboard fault causes such issue. :(
But this is only a suggestion and maybe you are a lucky guy and a cheaper part instead of mobo could be faulty.
The ASP can answer such questions... therefore my recommendation is to contact the authorized service provider in your country and to ask for the notebook check.
    Hope the best...
    Best regards

  • After BIOS update Equium A100-147 wont boot

    Can anyone help me please?
Updated my BIOS as recommended using the windows tool! All went through fine, backed up, verified and flashed new version. After the auto reboot my laptop will not boot past the Toshiba screen, press F12 and nothing, F2 and I just get PLEASE WAIT. Guess I won't be trying Visa or indeed any OS now.
Why oh why did I do it? All was fine before but was advised to do it for full compatibility. Do I need a new board or is there a key I can press to unable me to boot from CD to reflash or return to old BIOS?
    Please help!

I always say: do not touch well running system!!!
Anyway in your case something goes wrong with BIOS update and you must visit authorized service in your country. They can help you. Sorry but there is nothing you can do alone. BIOS functionality is very sensible case and if BIOS chip is defective now you can not do anything to make it work again.
    Sorry. :(

  • Equium A210-1AS wont boot from a CD

I posted before about the UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME blue screen and have now decided to restore the computer.
I can not access the recovery HDD.
I have created a windows recovery disc my self and have changed the BIOS order to CD first and after the Toshiba screen it goes to a black screen with a blinking cursor (_) and i can hear the disc moving, then switches back to windows (leading to the blue screen).
I also tried creating a Live CD of SLAX so i could see if it would boot on that and could retrieve files but does the same black screen with cursor.
I am going to order a recovery CD from Toshiba, if my other 2 CD's don't work, will the Toshiba one work?
    Thanks.

    Hi
Hmm the Toshiba recovery disk (which you created) should contain the SATA drivers already so you dont need to switch the SATA mode to compatible
But I think you should try it
Go to BIOS and set SATA mode from AHCI to compatible
Then you should try to boot from the recover disk again
If this will not help and if you would not be able to recover the unit from the HDD using HDD recovery procedure then you should check if the recovery disk from Toshiba would help you
If this will not help, then an hardware fault is possible!

  • Equium L350 wont boot, just beeps

    Hi Everyone,
I have an Equium l350 laptop model psld2e-003003ks.
It wont boot up it just beeps continually there doesnt seem to be any specific sequence of beeps just continual.
I have tried F8 and started it in safe mode which it does, but when click on "start" it displays "search" and the letter G scrolls along the search box.
I cant do an antivirus scan as it asks for my administrator password which I cant put in as again a series of letters or numbers just scrolls along the box where you input your password.
2 evenings previous I was using my laptop in bed and I got a blue error screen but managed to reboot it ok.
The next night it was fine too. I'm unsure as to whether I have a virus problem or a hardware prob.

    Hello
    > but when click on "start" it displays "search" and the letter G scrolls along the search box.
This would mean the key G on keyboard stocks and so a continuous beep appears. Maybe you can solve the problem if you try to repair the key: Just move the key a little bit but be careful.
Generally speaking if you exchange the keyboard your problem should be solved and a new keyboard can be ordered from an authorized service provider in your country. On Toshiba website you can find a list with all ASPs.

  • Problems with wireless on Equium M70

Hi there, I bought a Equium M70 2 weeks ago to use at home, and bought a Belkin Wireless router to use with my Broadband connection (blueyonder). When i got it all home, i realised that the router wanted to connect from my modem to my PC, but my PC doesnt have a network card (modem is currently connected by USB). So i went onto the Blueyonder website, and they said that i could connect using my set-top box and their router. So I bought the router from them to use with the set-top box. When i got it last week, i connected it up to the set-top box, and the laptop found it and connected with excellent signal strength. But when i went to use the internet, it wouldn't open any pages. I configured the router manually but i still had the same problem, it picks up the wireless, but wont let me use the internet.
Then yesterday, for some reason it kept telling me 'Wireless communication turned off, Please switch on', even though i hadn't turned it off. So i tried switching it off then on again, but no joy, i ended up having to do a system restore to get it to work. Now i was looking on here to see if anybody else had the same problems, saw somebody mention about pressing Fn+F8 to switch between wireless and bluetooth, so i pressed that thinking it may open something up, and it is now telling me i've switch wireless off again (i've tried pressing it again, but nothing happens, also moving the switch for wireless doesn't work)
    So does anybody know
a - how to turn my wireless back on without doing another system restore.
b - why i am getting a wireless connection, but am unable to use the internet.
Any help would be much appriciated

    Hello Mat
I use Belkin wireless router F5D7230-4 and everything works perfect. Which one you have?
If you have the same or similar router you can use LAN and WLAN connection. At the back side of your notebook there you can find LAN port. If your router is properly configured you must just use LAN cable, connect the unit to the router and start Internet explorer. As I already said it will works just if the router is properly configured.
I use PPPoE connection. On this way the IP address will be given by ISP and it must be set on your notebook to Automatically.
    a) switch the WLAN ON with the WLAN Antenna switch
    - check if WLAN card is enabled in device manager or even in ConfigFree tool
    b) in my opinion you must check Router settings. If you want you can try to use new WLAN driver from Intel. You can find it on http://downloadfinder.intel.com/scripts-df-external/Product_Filter.aspx?ProductID=1637&lang=eng

  • 24" iMac - Wont boot from HD or disc... Help!

    Hi guys,
Just been working on iMac, forget the exact spec but it's a 24" Intel 2.something Core 2 Duo or whatever it is, 4gb DDR2 RAM, gotta be about 2 years old to the day and after my last 2 Macs have lasted forever, never developing a fault, I didn't take out Applecare... Perhaps I had a bit too much faith...
As I say, just working away and all of a sudden, upon putting a video in Quicktime to full screen, the whole image has kinda of condensed itself into the top 20% of the screen and started slightly flickering the image. I've tried quitting some of the programmes, but neither the mouse nor leyboard have been responding so I've just had to turn the computer off.
I've gone to turn it back on, and after about 30 seconds, it's got as far as the grey screen but then the little spinning progress indicator pauses and it does nothing else.
I've reset the PRAM and that made it take longer before it froze but ultimately did nothing.
I've now tried getting it to boot from the Snow Leopard disc but this does the something, until after about 3 - 5 minutes, the screen goes all pshychedlic, like looking at an old school TV really close...
So looking for any suggestions on other things to try before I have to take to my local store... Any hazard a guess at what may be up with it?
I've got a back up the whole computer but I don't think this is a software problem, I'm assuming it's going to be a hardware one?
Any help at all would be much appreciated!

Ok, tried Safe Mode and that wont boot either. Saw a little progress bar on the grey screen though which made a change, but ultimately, it crashed once that had disappeared.
I've just noticed that at the point when the progress wheel stops spinning, a pattern of dead pixels appears across the screen that aren't there when the progress wheel is spinning.
The more I talk to people about this, the more graphics card seems to come back as the likely culprit, based on the fact that:
    - it started by me putting a video to full screen
    - the fact the display went weird when it first happened and also it plays up after it crashes with the psychedelic colours
    - it wont boot from HD, disc or now in safe mode either, however it does run AHT fine.
    - I've hoovered out the vents on the iMac and somehow it seems slower than it was before (bit odd)
    - the dead pixel thing mentioned above
So now thinking it may be time to get a new graphics card?
Reckon this is likely, even though the AHT hasn't picked up any problems? As mentioned earlier, I'm not too concerned about it would seem it doesn't particularly test the graphics card too much, so all just seems to point towards it.
Anything else that I could do to single this out as the likely culprit?
Guess this is a chance to upgrade!

  • G5 Wont boot.

I've searched and i've searched, and i can't really find a similar problem to this. It would seem most G5 boot issues are ram related..
Anyway. It's a G5 1.8 SP, launch model. Yep, about 7 years old now.
    Running 10.5.8
The boot HD is a 500GB and only has 1.8GB free. Also have a 160GB for files which has about 50 meg free.
    3.5GB ram (6x 512's, 2x 256's).
Graphics card is a radeon 9800 pro, with a noisy broken fan.
So. This computer has had a hard life. Seen lots of lan parties, and used to play allot of games back in the day. Up untill recently (say, the last year) it was working flawlessly. Then one day after going to a lan, it wouldn't boot. I reseated the graphics card, and it worked fine. Moved it again a few months later, and same deal. It's now got to the point where i'm affraid to move it, incase it stops working.
Well, last night i hopped under my desk to boot up the file G3 (which boots up flawlessly every time). I sat back down in front of the G5 again, and it had frozen while i was under the desk (i didn't even touch it!). The mouse was working, although it was extremely erratic, it would zig zag accross the screen while moving it. Everything else had frozen dead though.
So i rebooted it, and black screen. **** it. I reseated the graphics card, and it seemed to work. It got to the grey screen fine, with working pinwheel. Then went to the aqua blue back ground and stopped there, The screen would 'refresh' i guess you could say ever 20 seconds or so (go blank, flash, and come back as aqua blue). The mouse worked fine also.
I tried reseating the card again. Booted holding CMDSHIFT+PR, that rebooted successfully, but now it won't go past the grey screen. It just pinwheels for eternity. I got out the leopard disc and tried booting off that, but the disc drive appeared to be having troubles (the DVD drive has always had issues - it's a sony)
So i tried something else, and got the old Nvidia FX5200 that came with the computer, and tried booting of the disc again, and it worked! The boot disc works fine. There's no graphical glitches, no problems at all. I ran the disc utility, it reported no problems. But there were quite a few permissions broken, that it could NOT fix. A few front row (as in the program) permissions, a 'backrow' frameworks, and a few other frameworks that error'd.
Ran the profiler, and all the ram shows up, and says OK. It's also reading and using the nvidia just fine, despite it being unused for some 5-6 years.
    TL;DNR
G5 launch model has had some issues with the graphics card in the last year.
Last night it died again, reseated card and now OSX only boots to the grey screen, with a working pinwheel.
Installed the old FX5200 graphics card
It succesfully boots of the leopard disc, ram appears to be all in order, Disc utility came up with some bad permissions, but reported no problems with 'repair disc'
The computer still wont boot past the grey screen, even with the different graphics card.
It doesn't boot in safe mode either. Infact, that only makes things worse, the fans do the spool up thing that happens when you get a kernal panic.
    Any ideas?

Well i managed to clear 20 gigs off, this is the most space the computers had in probably a year, i know it can (normally) boot with that much space as it has done so with less for a long time now.
It's gone back to the blue screen. It will get the grey spash, with pin wheel. moments later it flashes to aqua blue as it normally would when loading OSX, but it stops there. And will flash every 20 seconds or so and try again, for infinity.
    I re-installed the 9800, and same deal.
I'm also running it with the boot disc at the moment, and it's all running fine, so i thing the 9800 is ok.
I'm going to try and repair the disc and permissions again, and see if it has some more success now it's got a bit of room to play with.

  • How to undo boot camp, wont boot from install disk in dvd drive

A few months ago I went through trying out boot camp and parallels. Now, I think something is messed up. I dont need either right now, so I just want to wipe out the whole system, repartition the drive, and restore to a blank new install of os x 10.5 leopard.
But when I put in the install disk, it wont boot up off it.
I tried holding down the c key while powering it up, and it just cycles through: hearing the drive whirl, a bling sound, and then repeating it again while the screen is blank. Finally, I held down the click button on the touch pad so it would eject the install disk.
Maybe this will help someone recognize part of the problem. Ever since messing around with boot camp and parallels, my machine wont "reboot". To reboot it, I tell it to reboot, then it hangs on the star like screen, then I have to hold the power button down, then if I do nothing, it tries to boot, but ends up in a dos looking screen saying no bootable device. So when I power it back up, I hold down the alt key, and then I have one choice: the hard drive. I pick that and it boots up ok.
So... I thought, well, maybe the boot camp is still messed up; maybe I should undo boot camp. When I start the boot camp assistant, there is only a "partition" and "back" button; nothing to "restore" the hard drive to just one partition.
What can I do? I want to wipe the drive and install a fresh install from my install disk.

    Forgot to specify:
Im using an older Unibody Macbook (back when they were not all macbook pro's) 2008ish with Snow leopard 1.6.8
The thread you linked me to, Eric, shows the guy 'Niganit' with the eXACT SAME PROBLEM as me! He seems to have found out the problem but I dont see his resolve.
I just dont have the option to install windows 7 in any other form that a cd
    a picture;

  • I have a Imac 8,1 That wont boot.

I have a Imac 8,1 that wont boot.
    3.06Ghz, Nvidia 8800
    I believe i have 2 problems.
First this is what ive already done:
I ran an extensive hardware test, no problem
In disk utility I erased my harddrive and clean installed Mavericks,
Verified and repaired disk, no problems
Verified and repaired permissions, no problems
Disk boots up fine when running on MacBookPro through Firewire
    Zapped PRAM/NVRAM plenty
After upgrade I can no longer boot into safe mode, Stalls after 25%
    Can no longer use CMD-R
Can no longer use Apple Hardware Test
Doesnt seem like I can update firmware from disk by holding down the power button. not sure im using the right disk either.
These problems probably stem from running complex graphics on a windows 7 partitions I used to have.
First off I think my GPU is out. I get Thick Green lines down the screen that are not from screen damage straight from startup.
After Chime the apple logo pops up and loads but after a while the wheel stops and the computer will reboot moments after. Im hoping this is a Firmware problem and I dont have to replace my GPU. My computer has booted up with the lines before and I dont think its the cause for not booting but im no professional. Before I updated to Mavericks This Problem already existed. Can a failing GPU cause boots to fail?
During hardware test the green lines would go away and I would have a clean screen.
I loaded Mavericks from a USB drive from there onto the newly erased harddrive (32 Write erase). Everything was going great until I got close to the end of the loading bar for the setup and it froze. The colors on my screen displayed everything but with the colors messed up into a rainbow oval on the top half of the screen. I rebooted and suddenly I cant boot from anything. Harddrive, Install Disk, or USB
So I plugged up my firewire and got on a MacBookPro with Mavericks and erased the disk again. Then I installed Mavericks flawlessly and it will boot from the MacBookPro but not from the Imac.
When I boot in Verbose mode I get an error that says
BootCacheControl: Unable to open /var/db/BootCache.playlist:2 no such file or directory
    Then
NVDAStartup: Official (im guessing thats my GPU)
and a bunch of SMC:smcReadKeyAction ERRORS
    and Sandbox: authd(##) deny file-write & deny file-read errors
Im thinking I need a new GPU but I want to be absolutely certain before I spend anything on replacing parts.
Could this be a EFI Firmware Problem?
like a Firmware/boot data problem from a bad ESP (I dont know what is what really).
If all this is part of the GPU it would totally make sense to just go ahead and replace it if thats the case. But im no expert, What do you think?

Very simple take it to an Apple Store or AASP and have it professionally diagnosed. Anything else would be guessing. Do NOT spend a penny on it until it is professionaly diagnosed otherwise you stand and excellent chance of throwing good money after bad.

  • Early 2011 2GHz Macbook pro distorted blue screen then wont boot, 3 times in last 2 weeks

I have an early 2011, 2GHz macbook pro (15' model with ati radeon graphics). It was running fine for the last two years. Over the last couple of weeks, following things happen:
    1. I was running on bootcamp windows, browsing and some flash content was open, suddenly distorted blue stripes appear and it froze. Force shut down using power button, turn on again and it wont boot on windows or mac, or recovery partition or from the dvd. Tried for about 4 hours, after nvram, pram reset, it was able to safe boot, then run disk utility to verify and repair the disk, it said that there were problems with hard drive and fixed, then booted normally.
    2. I thought that the problem might be because I was on windows, so took a back up of the windows drive, erased it and installed windows 8 using bootcamp. It ran well for an week. After that, once I connected it with the tv using HDMI to watch a video, after I disconnected it, the screen was garbled over the windows start screen, but I was able to command restart normally. After restart, it wont boot to windows or mac.
    3. After several hours of trying, i was able to boot using the dvd this time, it said it 'can not install mac on the hard drive', erased the hard drive and it was able to install the os (snow leopard). After completing install, logged in to app store to download previously purchased mountain lion. Then ran it to upgrade the os, after the upgrade was completed, at the point when it prompts for apple id and password to set up icloud, it again froze with distorted blue screen. Shut down forcefully. Then turn on again and it wont boot. After the white screen and the sound, it shows the apple logo and spinning wheel for a while, then a bright white screen and nothing happens.
Can anybody help reading the symptoms?

I have the Early 2011 2GHz Macbook Pro and I have the same problem too.
I switched out the logicboard a month ago and today the graphics just went distorted.
Any solutions? Now I'm thinking it is the Graphics Card.

  • My iMac wont boot up properly. Stops at background pic, no dock, only little apple show up top and cursor sticks on little spinning wheel. Have to shut down manually in back and reboot to get it to work. Any ideas why this sometimes happens?

    I'm running OSX 10.9.1 (13B42)
My problem is that occasionally my Mac wont boot properly. It gets to the background picture where the dock should open but it freezes there. The little apple shows up top left but nothing else and the cursor shows as the little spinning wheel that wont do anything. I can't click on the apple to restart, I have to switch off in back and then start up again. It usally boots all the way after that but I'm worried there's something up since this seems to be happeneing more frequently. Also I'm worried that having to manually shut down like that will somehow damage the software in time?
I tried a disk verify but there were no repairs needed. I repaired disk permissions too just in case but it still seems to happen every once in a while.
I've noticed recently that it happens the next reboot after I've been streaming movies online if that helps. Is there any reason for this and anything i can do to stop it in the future?

Thanks Paul, just ran the etrecheck you recommended and got this:

  • HP DV4-1155SE Black Screen and Wont Boot. Please Help!

Hello all I am working on an Hp DV4-1155SE. I have tested the memory modules, the hard drive and everything else that I can take out of the computer easily. Everything works but!, The laptop will not boot into the bios or anything else. Black screen, wont boot and i have the bios file that HP supplies on the support page of the site. I have looked at the instructions that a few people have posted about re flashing the bios and that does not seem to help me at all with this AMD processor. If anyone can please offer any help at all this would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you!

I will search on int 19h....thanks.
My problem started before the bios-screen.
This is what I tried this evening:
    - Disconnected all non-essential devices...no effect.
    - Cleared the CMOS...system booted to OS!    Screens still garbled!
    - Put in an older graphics-card...No artifacts!
    - Put my MSI NX6600GT (AGP) back in...screen grabled while booting. Once in OS everything
looks fine at first. Later I noticed some odd random pixels. Playing movies is working fine.
Playing 3D games results in all kinds of strange looking artifacts.
    - Installed the latest NVidia- drivers...no effect.
Is my problem still MOBO related or Graphics Adapter?
    Any further advice?
    Thanks!

  • Dm4 wont boot- hard disk error but passes hard disk test

My dm4 laptop froze yesterday and I was forced to restart it- it is 3 years old but I have had no issues with it. When trying to reboot it will not start and if I run windows repair it comes up with the failed 2 hdd error. I thought it was a hard drive failure as I originally got a 305 error code when running the hard drive test. Upon opening system diagnostics I ran the hard disk test and it passed no problem. However if I run any of the other tests- start up, run in, or system tune up, I get the error Hard Disk 1. I tried the hard disk test again and it passes. Ive run Avg virus scan and found no threats. I have no idea what is going on- I did a BIOS rollback and the computer still wont boot up. What is happening and can I recover my data?

With the intermittent errors,it sounds like the hard drive is failing and will need to be replaced. A retail laptop SATA hard drive can be used. Just be sure to get one of at least equal capacity as the original in order to use Recovery Discs. It can be larger, but not smaller capacity. For instance if you have a 500GB hdd you could use a 750GB hdd but not a 320GB hdd.
As for whether it is possible to recover your files it depends on how much life is left in the hard drive. Many times you can remove it, attach it to a USB Adapter or install in a USB Enclosure to plug into  working machine via usb port and copy files over to the hard drive of host machine.
If you need more help selecting/replacing the hdd post back with full Model & Product Number as listed on the Service Tag attached to bottom of laptop.
