I used to be able to clone or extend my desktop onto external tv's using the s-video connection. This has all of a sudden stopped, the cable is fine as are the tv's as I've tried them with other laptops, and the s-video port in the laptop looks and feels solid. So physically things seem fine.
I have tried updating drivers, flashing BIOS, upgrading to Windows 7, running the restore disks created when the laptop was first bought. VGA and HDMI ports work perfectly but I need to use s-video and I go to a switcher that only has phono video inputs.
Does anyone have any fixes for this or anyone know of a switcher that has red yellow and white phono ins and well as HDMI or VGA in?
Any ideas would be well much appreciated

Oddly with the bios settings, i did discover a setting which when turned on caused the s-video output to work, but only during the post. And even then the picture is poor and flashes on and off on off etc, but a regular flash.
Until then i was beginning to think it was a connection problem (that maybe my s-video connection on the laptop was damaged) but when this worked, it discounted this theory.
But as soon as windows loaded, the tv recieving the input.
So naturally i assumed operating system or driver issue, but ive restored to factory settings, and even tried windows 7 on it at one stage as well as many many driver versions and still no joy.
(note - i am back to vista, purely cos i know it has worked with it before)

We use the iPhone to shoot video for our business. We use an external microphone/s (Audio Technica ATR3350 & AZDEN WM Pro wireless) to shoot the video. An adapter is needed for the audio to be recorded correctly through the headphone jack. We've always used an adapter from KVconnection for the specific purpose of using an external mic.
The above equipment has been used with the 4 & 4S for years - no issues. Audio was always loud and clear.
Now - using the above equipment - the iPhone 5 records audio at approximately 40% of the iPhone 4 & 4S. Basically - the audio recorded when shooting video on an iPhone 5 can barely be heard.
I've done troubleshooting with 3 differnet iPhone 5's & 2 iPhone 4's - all results are the same. KVconnection has done their research - it's not the adapter (I agree).
My question:
Does anyone know what has changed in the iPhone 5 that would cause low audio gain while shooting video with an external mic?

I've found the same issue. Using the iPhone 5s with the 1/8 adapter cable from kvconnection and an Audio Technica wireless lav mic, the volume is less than desireable and I haven't been able to get it up and higher. Not sure if another mic would help the problem or if that's just the way it is.

You can use any computer but your data will be lost if you have no backup.

It's not that I can't buy books off of the itunes store, however, whenever I try to search for a book by language it doesn't work anymore. It simply says ''cannot connect to the store''. I tried doing it on both my phone and ipad, but got the same answer. How can I fix this problem?

I'm not sure if I'm understanding but if I am then I'm not sure why you are turning your Wi-Fi off and on. It should automatically connect and use your Wi-Fi when it is available and use your cellular data connection when Wi-Fi is not available. I haven't turned either off ever. VPN connection with Lion doesn't work

Hello,
I am using the System Preferences to connect to the VPN network of my university. It's a Cisco IPSec. But since the update to OS X Lion it doesn't work anymore. I did not change the preferences of the VPN so they are correct. I also deleted the VPN connection and re-enetered the VPN settings but it stil doesn't work. Yesterday I asked the people from the computation centre but they have also no clue.
Does anyone has a clue what to do?

Is your disk partitioned into more than just one mac partition and the bootcamp partition by any chance?
A second Mac partition?
This sympton is often caused by the Windows partition moving to be to be the 4th or higher partition, which it doesn't like for booting. Lion installs an extra partition - the recovery partition at the beginning of the drive and shuffles everything down one effectively, so if your bootcamp partition was the 3rd it becomes the 4th and Windows becomes unhappy about booting

Time Machine Just Doesn't Work Anymore

I was a happy Time Machine (with Time Capsule) user for months. But it just doesn't work anymore. It takes longer than an hour to do every hourly backup so it is backing up 24 hours a day. It finds hundreds of thousands of files changed every hour and tries to back them up. Finders says only tens of files have been modified all of today. I have tried rebuilding my spotlight indexes, repairing my Time Capsule with Disk Utility and starting over with a brand new backup. But it just backs up hundreds of thousands of files every hour. So I am turning off Time capsule since it is clearly broken. If anyone has any suggestions at all I would welcome them.

Consider the following, it might give you some ideas:
Time Machine performs backups at the file level. If a single bit in a large file is changed, the WHOLE file is backed up again. This is a problem for programs that save data to monolithic virtual disk files that are modified frequently. These include Parallels, VMware Fusion, Aperture vaults, or the databases that Entourage and Thunderbird create. These should be excluded from backup using the Time Machine Preference Exclusion list. You will, however, need to backup these files manually to another external disk.
One poster observed regarding Photoshop: “If you find yourself working with large files, you may discover that TM is suddenly backing up your scratch disk's temp files. This is useless, find out how to exclude these (I'm not actually sure here). Alternatively, turn off TM whilst you work in Photoshop.” (http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1209412)
If you do a lot of movie editing, unless these files are excluded, expect Time Machine to treat revised versions of a single movie as entirely new files.
If you frequently download software or video files that you only expect to keep for a short time, consider excluding the folder these are stored in from Time Machine backups.
If you have recently created a new disk image or burned a DVD, Time Machine will target these files for backup unless they are deleted or excluded from backup.
Installing new software, upgrading existing software, or updating Mac OS X system software can created major changes in the structure of your directories. Time Machine will backup every file that has changed since the installation.
Files or folders that are simply moved or renamed are counted as NEW files or folders. If you rename any file or folder, Time Machine will back up the ENTIRE file or folder again no matter how big or small it is.
George Schreyer describes this behavior: “If you should want to do some massive rearrangement of your disk, Time Machine will interpret the rearranged files as new files and back them up again in their new locations. Just renaming a folder will cause this to happen. This is OK if you've got lots of room on your backup disk. Eventually, Time Machine will thin those backups and the space consumed will be recovered. However, if you really want recover the space in the backup volume immediately, you can. To do this, bring a Finder window to the front and then click the Time Machine icon on the dock. This will activate the Time Machine user interface. Navigate back in time to where the old stuff exists and select it. This disk utility feature creates backup copies of your system directories. Obviously these directories are changing all the time. So, depending on how it is configured, these backup files will be changing as well which is interpreted by Time Machine as new data to backup. Excluding the folder these backups are stored in will eliminate this effect.
*Backups WAY Too Large*
If an initial full backup or subsequent incremental backup is tens or hundreds of Gigs larger than expected, check to see that all unwanted external hard disks are still excluded from Time Machine backups.
This includes the Time Machine backup drive ITSELF. Normally, Time Machine is set to exclude itself by default. But on rare occasions it can forget. When your backup begins, Time Machine mounts the backup on your desktop. (For Time Capsule users it appears as a white drive icon labeled something like “Backup of (your computer)”.) If, while it is mounted, it does not show up in the Time Machine Prefs “Do not back up” list, then Time Machine will attempt to back ITSELF up. If it is not listed while the drive is mounted, then you need to add it to the list.
*FileVault / Boot Camp / iDisk Syncing*
Note: Leopard has changed the way it deals with FileVault disk images, so it is not necessary to exclude your Home folder if you have FileVault activated. Additionally, Time Machine ignores Boot Camp partitions as the manner in which they are formatted is incompatible. Finally, if you have your iDisk Synced to your desktop, it is not necessary to exclude the disk image file it creates as that has been changed to a sparsebundle as well in Leopard.

As hwd doesn't work anymore... [SOLVED]

As hwd doesn't work anymore, I have a problem with installing and maintaining Xorg on my Arch machine. I recently reinstalled Archlinux on my desktop machine, and was unaware that Xorg had been updated.
So when I tried to do my normal installation routine of installing all the necessary drivers, xorg and hwd, I ran into a problem. When I ran hwd -u + -xa, it said No X server installed. I searched around and found out that hwd was not supported any longer.
So I figured i'd just do the manual configuration of Xorg. So I ran X -configure, and then ran the server. Everytime I did this, the computer would freeze up upon entering the environment.
So I tried doing nvidia-xconfig, and ended up actually getting into the environment, but after all the xterm windows had popped up, it froze again everytime.
After reading abit articles on the subject, I tried letting Xorg simply use HAL for it's hardware recognization. This time it worked, and I was able to enter the environment with no problem. So I went with this alternative, and installed Openbox.
Now, the problem shows up when I enter the environment. I can clearly see that there's somewhat of a problem with the graphics. So I tried configuring a minimal xorg.conf to run along side HAL. This still didn't fix the problem. The problem is, there are areas of the screen that are SLIGHTLY blurry. For example, if I write something in xterm, then move it to certain parts of the screen, the text becomes mildly blurry. It's not a big problem, just irritating. But this little problem may be an indication of a bigger problem. I'm sensing I don't have 3D capabilities, but haven't tested yet.
Another thing is; When I write something in xterm while in the environment, and I hold down the backspace button... Xorg simply crashes without any particular error.
Anyway, my point is; I had an idea that, is there some way to make hwd recognize the xorg server as a older version, making it configure a file for it? I've never had any problem with xorg up until this new update, which irritates me alot, making me want to find some other distrobution of linux.
I hope someone can help me fix this.

you could roll back your Xorg version to continue using hwd in the meantime...
I'm assuming you've followed http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Xor … _xorg.conf to try without xorg / with minimal xorg. Have you ensured that your drivers are up to date? I would attempt reinstalling video drivers, trying HAL again with NO xorg file, and if that fails, try it with minimal xorg.
Hopefully someone comes along with a more concrete solution...I'm just hoping to steer you down a path of some new ideas (if you havent already tried this...)
I had some trouble with the latest version. Reinstalling video drivers and running with no xorg.conf was the fix...I know you said you tried this same thing, but you havent specified how new your drivers are or anything... Good luck and free bump!

In system network preferences iPhone usb connection is not detected.

M-audio fast track pro doesn't work anymore

Today I plugged in my M-Audio Fast Track Pro which worked fine few weeks before, but now it doesn't work anymore. It shows up everywhere fine but I can't play any music. The videos on Youtube can't be played at all when I have selected this soundcard as output. Same every other application like iTunes. I have reinstalled the drivers, rebooted my mac but nothing helped so far. Does anyone know how to solve this problem? Thanks.

I had the same problem (Fast Track Pro + Mavericks 10.9.2 > no output sound).
After trying several combinations, I found out an non logical solution, but it did work
What I did:
1) Download the most recent driver update 1.9.4 (http://avid.force.com/pkb/articles/en_US/Download/Fast-Track-Pro-Drivers)
2) Uninstall Fast Track Pro Drive and restart computer
3) After restar, do NOT install again. Just go to the System Preferences/Sound and set Fast Track as your in/output port

Networkmanager: mobile broadband doesn't work anymore

I had setup a mobile broadband connection for my Nokia N900, connected via USB, with the NetworkManager (Gmome 3) two or three weeks ago. It worked perfect. Yeserday I tried the internet connection again - after a couple of rolling updates (e.g. actual NetworkManager 0.8.999-1). Now, the internet connection doesn't work anymore.
NetworkManager --no-daemon prints out the following:

Choosing start volume with [alt] doesn't work anymore

Hi there,
On my MBP (15" early 2011). Normally I can choose from what volume I want to boot by pressing the [alt] key right after switching on my MBP. I have OSX Snow Leo and Win7 (64bit) installed.
However since I installed the latest software updates several days ago, including a firmware update for the thunderbolt connection, the choosing of the start volume by pressing [alt] on startup doesn't work anymore: I can move the mouse, but the two volumes don't appear on the screen. All I can do is to switch off. I can however boot under both, OSX and Win7 by choosing the "restart under Win7/OSX" option in the other system respectively.
I now found out, that it works perfectly fine again when I have my 27" Apple Cinema display (mini display, not thunderbolt) connected to my MBP. When it's not connected I am having the issue.
My guess is that the thunderbolt firmware update causes this.
Anyone got an idea? It's quite a pain in the *** that I always have to start one system at first to get in the other one at the moment.

thx for your answer! I just have reseted this NVRAM as described in the support page, and think I have done it right. It worked as said there, I just didn't have to set any time or resolution things afterwards, as it is written there that it might have to be.
Sadly it didn't seem to help. Anyway, I do have news:
When the two volumes didn't appear again on the startup screen, I sat back and thought about what the issue could be. After approximately one minute starin on the screen, suddenly the two volumes appeared! So in fact it DOES work, just it takes about a minute now when I don't have the cinema display attached.
Does this additional info say anything to the experts out there? It's still not solved, as it is rather inconvenient to wait a minute untill I can choose the startup volume.
