Just seeing if anyone had any idea for software to sync drives/folders between 2 servers over the internet. We 2 separate domains and forests running. 1 location uses 1 domain and then 3 locations use the second domain. However we need to be able to sync some folders between the 2 domains as staff are all technically running under the single organization name (very confusing). I wanted to use DFS but obviously cant due to the forest restraints here.
The staff all use a terminal server and have a mapped drive with directory structure and need so basically have that syncing both ways as each side will have their own structure that needs to sync back to the other site.

Config Manager 2012 setup w/ SQL DB in a different domain and Forest

Hi all I'm hoping these are easy questions. The SQL admins in my environment are pushing for me to have the DB hosted on the managed SQL servers vs on the PSS. The only potential problem is that the SQL servers currently are in a different domain/forest.
There is a two trust between forests. The managed workstations will be in the same domain as the SCCM infrastructure. There will not be any managed workstations in domain where the SQL server resides. Eventually all SQL servers will be moved to
a different domain, but it will not be the same domain as the SCCM infrastructure. My questions are below
Will I need to have another PSS in the same domain as the SQL Server? If yes then i assume I'll need a CAS as well to manage both PSS.
Since the SQL servers will eventually be moved to another domain/forest, which will have a two was trust as well, what are the potential issues that can arise from this?

Technically what you're asking for will work. THat said: you should be willing to demonstrate to your SQL team that SCCM will be fully capable of overwriting, dismounting and otherwise destroying every database on that shared SQL server due to
the ridiculously elevated permissions required on said said SQL system.
To clarify:
SCCM will require local administrator permissions to every node in the cluster. When it connects, it will immediately install a server role on said cluster. It will also require full administrative access to the instance the database will reside
in. By the time all this fun stuff is open, anyone who knows how to open up a command prompt under the system context of your SCCM server will be able to to all sorts of fun stuff that really REALLY won't make your SQL team very happy.
I'd fight the desire tooth and nail. If they threaten to not support the SQL instance I'd be OK with that even. Microsoft won't even support you if you make any edits/changes to the SQL database directly anyway.

Things to be considered before AD - domain and forest functional level upgrade (win 2003 to 2008 R2)

Recently we introduced Windows 2008 R2 DCs and decommissioned old Windows 2003 domain controllers. Since we are not sure about the application compatibility (both MS and 3rd party) many times we postponed the plan to upgrade the DFL and FFLs. We found Jonathan's

whcih clearly says the upgrade won't affect any applications. But just to confirm this with the experts we are posting this concern once again. We have Exchange 2010 / Shrepoint / SQL / SAP etc..(also 2 X windows 2000 servers)
Please let us know from your real experiance - in production environment how a upgrade from 2003 to 2008 R2 (belive we can able to upgarde both FFL and DFLs from Win 2003 to Win 2008 R2) affects existing applications.

I might be able to help with Exchange. What service pack?
Most likely, there should be no problem. The Exchange compability matrix shows that (with SP2 and SP3) it is compatible with Windows 2008 R2 domain controllers and 2008 R2 domain and forest functional levels.
I'm *working on* an Exchange 2010 migration but if you want someone who *has* such a combination (2008 R2 DFL/FFL and Exchange 2010), you could ask in the Exchange forum.
I'm sure, though, that such a combination is actually quite common.

Credentials needed to raise domain and forest level from 2003 to 2012 R2.

I migrated our environment from a single DC server 2003 to a single DC server 2012 R2. I followed the migration process that is documented by Microsoft and others.
However, I forgot to assign my account Enterprise Admin and Schema Admin before raising the domain and forest levels from 2003 to 2012 R2. My account did have domain admin. The GUI interface did not complain when I raised the level of the domain
and then the forest.
So I am thinking everything is OK.
My question is am I going to have problems down the road with the AD environment?

Using snapshot for a domain controller is not recommended, as usn rollback can occur. Allthough in server 2012 using snapshot for dc's has been improved and made 'safer', but I wouldnt use it as a backup solution.
But back to your problem, Beaulieu, is it a single domain/single forest design? And the issue is that you have no membership in schema- and enterprise admins, but you do have an domain admin?

File Sync across WRT1900 and EA6900 Routers

I am trying to setup some type of sync across the internet for two locations. The primary location has a WRT1900 router and a Windows Server 2012 R2 Essentials server with all the files. I am trying to setup a NAS or similar at the 2nd location connected by a EA6900 router. Files are media such as HD movies and iTunes content. Want to be able to access the content locally at hte 2nd site and watch HD movies and alike. Content is too big (expensive) to keep fully in cloud plus want speed of content locally. I would really like to minimize all the parts and hoping there is an easy way to setup a site to site VPN or similar across the two products and sync to a NAS or use DFS or similar. Simple and easy is key. Thank you!

Thanks Chadster - problem is I then loose the wireless networking, which I use extensively throughout the house. I guess I could add a WAP, but then left with $500 of routers plus the cost of the new routers and APs. I like the WRT's performance. Any ideas to keep the existing routers in place?

hi guys,
This is my first post, made just a day after I got my iphone.
Now don't get me wrong, i love the iphone, but i'm worried i might have to send it back due to 2 glitches:
1) I exported all my contacts onto my computer from my old k800i, then imported them into contacts on outlook. Then I synced my iphone to outlook through itunes and it appears to be doing something on the itunes bar only for me to open my phone when it's done and the contact list is empty. It's synced the calender and itunes music thought.
2) I sent some ringtones to my friend who has a mac (I have a PC) and he changed them to .m4r files on that garage program on the mac, then he sent them back, i dragged them into the ringtone folder and they appeared. I went on itunes and they appear in the iphone tone menu, i sync with the actual phone and after saying it's done they don't appear in the tone menu on the phone.
That's 2 annoying things, do I need to send it back?
Any help would be great, thanks for your time.

Please follow the steps below to make sure the reminders have been enabled in Outlook:
On the File tab, click Options.
Select Advanced in the Outlook Options dialog box.
In the Reminders section, select Show reminders.
Click OK.

Syncing on 2 different computors and 2 different itunes?

OK, I have 2 different Laptops and 2 different i tunes libraries. How can I sync both libraries on my nano. Every time I hook up to my other laptop it gives me a warning that all previous songs will be erased.I have made purchases on one of my laptops and I'm not sure if or how I can transfer to my other laptop?

I have sufficient bandwidth
Every other application using network connection works (ftp, htttp etc)
It is pure plain and simple filenames (eg abc.pdf), it is simple pdf files, it is small sizes (like eg 5-6mb)

Exchange across 2 different domains

My company is planning to move to a new data center, we are currently running Exchange 2010 sp3 with 1 server per role, CAS, Hub, Mailbox and Edge. The part I need help with is that we would also be getting rid of the current we have, could I setup
a DAG in the new domain and be able to have exchange functioning correctly?

I synced to a different computer and it erased the music of my iPod how do I get it back?

I recently purchased a new iPod and I was transfering to songs from my old iPod touch to my computer to my new one. When I synced my old one it erased all of my songs. I went on ITunes to see if I could redownload them and it said that the music had already been purchased but it wasn't on my old iPod or new one. If you could please let me know how I could fix that it would be greatly appreciated!

OK, so on your new computer, are you logged on with the same iTunes logon that you had on the old computer? If so, then you can go into the iTunes Store on that computer, and re-select each of the songs or albums you had previously purchased (one at at time). Be sure to select the exact same song or album (for instance, if a particular song is available on two different albums, or by itself, be sure that you select the same place you originally selected that song from). Then select the "Buy" button. It will ask for your AppleID password - key it in and press Enter.
iTunes should come back to you and say "You have already purchased this song. Do you want to download it again for free?" Say yes, and it will download your previously purchased song to your new iTunes Library. Once it is downloaded, sync your iPod, and you should be all set!
Note: if it says are you sure you want to purchase it - then you have either selected the wrong "version" of the song/album or have not signed on with the AppleID originally used to purchase that song/album.

In which order should I put the threads? Each process has (of course) different execution time, so I need to know where to put the wait() or lock statement.

FPN over different domains and networks

Hello,
I did some research on this but could not really find some definitive information if
it is possible to set up an FPN over two domains, e.g. domain1.net as producer
and domain2.com as consumer. The user connects to the consumer from the
internal network and to the producer over the internet using SSL. So, the portals
reside in different networks additionally.
The central note on FPN 880482 says something about this as a resolved restriction, though
if I take a look at the document "How to Set Up the Landscape for a Federated Portal Network",
then I can only a scenario with different subdomains instead of domains.
Has anyone done this or is it impossible anyway (aside from single sign-on)?

When click to connect to another website I get hundreds of blank files zooming across top of page and have to quit Firefox

When I'm on certain web pages and click on a highlighted word to connect to another website, I suddenly get hundreds of blank file folders rushing across the tabs bar. I have to quit Firefox and restart. If I go back to the same page and click on the highlighted words again, the same thing happens. This event seems to be triggered most often when I'm on a company or organization's home page and I click on the highlighted words which are supposed to let me email them or get further contact info. I've reinstalled Firefox numerous times and each time I think the problem is solved, it shows up again. HELP!

Can non-purchased sync across mac ibook app and ios ibook app

I looked up many discussions, blog posts etc, but seem get conflicting answers. I really want to know whether I can sync non-purchase (from ibook store) pdf from my mac (maverick) to ipad ibook apps. I tried many times, but failed to do so. I never try books. Does pdf must be sync through iTunes or by email?
The icloud sync is really frustrating. Previously, it took me quite a lot efforts to sort out the sync between pages and numbers. Not because I didn't do the right settings, but problems just arrived after upgrade mavericks. And I had to uninstall and reinstall the apps several times to make them work. So I wonder it is the same problem with the ibook.
Someone pls help!

Yes, eBooks (either PDF or EPUB) not purchased from the iTunes Store can be synced to iOS devices but not via the cloud. You must do it via USB.
1. Make sure the eBook is in the iBooks library.
2. Connect the iOS device to your computer via USB.
3. Open iTunes and select the device, then select Books.
4. Make sure "sync books" is selected and choose either the "all books" or "selected books" radio buttons. If you select "selected books" you'll need to then also select the eBooks to sync.
5. Click the Sync button.
