Re: firmware 7.2.x problems

In the past week I posted a couple of questions about the problems I was experiencing with my AEBS and Internet connection. I didn't get an answer. However after scanning through some related posts after my post,I found an answer to my problem. Other people are experiencing the same problem with the new firmware update. A few posts recommended replacing the new firmware with the older "working" firmware of 7.1.1. I did that and it worked.
To replace the firmware (or return to the older version), you have two options: 1. Go to Airport Utility>Manual>Summary and position your cursor over version (see plus sign) and click. You get a menu listing previous versions on the base station. Select the one that worked. OR 2. Go to Airport Utility and option-click the Airport Utility menu, scroll down to update, and you'll see a window open listing firmware versions. Check the desired firmware, make sure to uncheck other firmware boxes, and click Update. You "should" be back on the Internet (and Airport Utility "sees" your base station). If I omitted any steps, you can go to http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=305301
It took some time to solve this but if you persist and continue to review this forum you will find a solution (although I would have preferred an instant solution). I wish to thank all of you who have posted your problems and those who provided solutions and work-arounds. The forum may not work as fast as one might prefer, but it still delivers the answer. Thanks again!
And will Apple do something about this, such as update the firmware again?
Rob

There's already a long thread started called "Firmware update 7.2.1" regarding customer issues after the update. Currently the only solution seems to be to downgrade the firmware to the previous release until Apple releases another update.
Ensure to send your bug report regarding any issues experienced after updating the AEBS firmware 7.2.1 to http://www.apple.com/feedback/airportextreme.html and select bug from the drop down list.

  • Latest firmware update and more problems with 30" external displays?

    Hello,
New macbook pro user since a few weeks, so first post here.
I'm aware of various issues with the displayport to dual-dvi adapter, especially with 30" 2560x1600 monitors. All threads I've found on are 1-3 years old though.
I got my 17" macbook pro a few weeks ago and I've had very few problems running my 30" dell 3008wfp as external screen. I had issues at times getting it to work after boot up, with blackout and various errors (problems I've read about in older threads), but once stable it would work without issues for days.
Yesterday the macbook found and installed a new firmware update, and wow, all **** broke lose. The external screen won't run at 2650x1600 for more than a minute before blacking out or suffering major graphical errors. Ironically one of the key points in the firmware update is better support for external monitors...
It will run nice and stable mirrored at 1920x1200, but not at 2650x1600.
Is anyone else in a similar situation after the latest update?

  • Upgrade kernel26-firmware to linux-firmware report with some problem

Just now I upgrade my system from kernel26-firmware to linux-firmware, in X (Awesome WM).
After press Y and pacman start downloading, I'm afk for a while (take a bath), when I'm come back
My system freeze and proses show that system still make mkinitcpio for fallback.
I hard reset, and boot. Boot failed in 10 seconds message because it can't detect my filesystem.
Follow suggestion that I need add some parameters I can boot.
Then I check with pacman -Syu, and you can guess there's still db.lck. Then I remove it, and invoke pacman -Syu again, pacman failed because there's already file from linux-firmware on disk.
I try to downgrade, but failed with the same reason. Then I remove all folder and file that conflict, and install kernel26-firmware then upgrade to linux-firmware, now I have linux-firmware on my system.
Learn a lot from that problem, any thought guys ?! Maybe some of you have a better way to solve something like that ?!
    regards,
    igndenok
    Edit:
After I read pacman man, there's a force option (-f). Can I used that just in case (maybe) I have the same problem again ?

All I can say is that when the linux-firmware package got into [testing], I switched without problems on my laptop. I 'migrated' to the linux-firmware package on my server a few hours ago and it went smoothly too. I don't really think your problem has anything to do with the firmware package, since that doesn't trigger an initcpio rebuild, nor are there any file conflicts between both firmware packages.

  • WRT54G v6 firmware upgrade under Vista problem

I'm not sure if this is related to Vista or not.
I downloaded the correct firmware version for WRT54G v6 and selected upgrade using the web interface. After a few minutes, the browser directed me to a site with the following URL
    http://192.168.1.1/upgrade.tri
My IE7 had problem displaying this page and the Power LED on the router kept blinking. I tried to connect to the web interface and it was still showing Firmware Version: v1.00.9
I don't think there is anything wrong with what I did and not sure if the upgrade was successful. Any suggestions?

I had the same problem. I found the solution here http://www.scorpiontek.org/portal/content/view/27/36/1/3/:
This could be because you are accessing the router over HTTPS. You cannot upload firmware or settings to a WRT54G v5 over a HTTPS connection unless you have Linksys firmware v1.00.9 or later. Try accessing it using just plain HTTP.
Enabling and using http instead of https worked for me. No need to reset or reconfigure.
    I upgraded from 1.00.1 (IIRC) to 1.02.2.

  • Firmware version explanation + sleep problem

My 10 days old iMac baby has problems to sleep. It goes to sleep but after 5-6 minutes it's awaken again. I tried everything I found relevant to this problem on this discussion board but no help at all. Mac baby was born with 10.4.8 and now it's at 10.4.10 - combo update, everything else is working perfectly well except this sleeping problem. I
After all, I went on Apple download in order to check if there are some EFI Firmware updates and now I'm more than confused with numbers.'
On Apple's site it's clearly written that the most recent firmware version for my iMac is "IM51.0090.B03 (20-inch late 2006)" http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/imacefifirmwareupdate11.html but my System Profiler shows higher number count: "IM51.0090.B08".
    From System Profiler:
    Hardware Overview:
    Model Name: iMac
    Model Identifier: iMac5,1
Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo
    Processor Speed: 2.16 GHz
    Number Of Processors: 1
    Total Number Of Cores: 2
L2 Cache (per processor): 4 MB
    Memory: 2 GB
    Bus Speed: 667 MHz
    Boot ROM Version: IM51.0090.B08
    SMC Version: 1.9f4
Does anybody has any idea about this?
    Tnx,
    Denis
iMac 20'' (Late 2006)   Mac OS X (10.4.10)   2 Gb Crucial DDR2 RAM @ 667 MHZ, WD My Book Premium Edition 250 GB

Others have also found what appears to be a discrepancy in the firmware that System Profiler reports installed on their Mac versus the version reported in Apple Knowledge Base documents. The definitive document for me is Mac OS X: Firmware Updates for Intel-based Macs. This doc confirms the information that you report, so the logical explanation to me is that, although the doc was last updated by Apple on 1 MAY 2007, there has been an update to installed firmware in Macs shipping since the doc was last updated.
But the firmware shouldn't have anything to do with whether your Mac sleeps or not. Sleep is one of the things regulated by the System Management Controller. This can be reset.
But there are many other things that can interrupt the Mac auto-sleeping; external FW/USB peripheral devices, wifi, Bluetooth, etc. Have you added any such devices recently.

  • Firmware 1.1.1 problems

I have upgraded to 1.1.1 from 1.02 firmware about 10 days ago, and in those ten days i have observed following problems.
1.Battery life is significantly reduced, now i charge it everyday as compared to every other day with 1.02
2.Phone becomes hot even after 5 min talk time
3.ATT reception has gone down significantly, it would not receive a service in spots where it used to have it with 1.02 and once it goes into no service message, sometime it would not automatically go to service mode , you would rather have to restart the phone.
I had a very good working phone prior to this 1.1.1 release, I never had volume, battery or reception problems as mentioned in this forum by some memebers.
I am wondering if i could go back to 1.02, I never modified my firmware.
Is there a way to downgrade?

Gotta say--I have the same problems after upgrading--the phone that used to go 2-3 days between charges now won't make it 8 hrs! And the brand new loaner phone I got from Apple does the same thing! The loaner was preloaded with "1.1.1 (3A109a)". My iPhone has gone from being the joy of my life (well, sort'a) to being pretty much unusable. Apple better take care of this!
It is clear that something is now running in the background, heating up the phone and killing the battery--also causing some intermintent screen freeze-ups when in "Settings".
    NOT A HAPPY CAMPER!

  • Ipod 1.1.1 firmware - 1.1.2 problems? is 1.1.3 out?

    Hiya
    and good morning everyone:
My question (and I did a quick search for previous posts):
I am currently on firmware 1.1.1 for ipod "classic" 160 gb with current iTunes Version 8.0.1.
On two previous occasions, I updated to 1.1.2 which caused endless issues with the ipod; done the hard factory reset etc.
Does anyone know, is there a firmware 1.1.3 out (or higher?) and if so, has
    a) anyone had problems?
    b) and do I need to update to 1.1.2 first?
    T.v.m.

Is there possibly a way to go backwards? I have been having a lot of problems with my 160 GB classic, and someone suggested that I deny the update to 1.1.2 while restoring my ipod through itunes, but it doesn't offer me the chance. It always just seems to update to 1.1.2. Is there a way to download 1.1.1 as a standalone? Or maybe someone can explain why restore isn't giving me the option of denying 1.1.2. Any help is greatly appreciated.

  • 3.1 firmware and nothing but problems

Since upgrading firmware to 3.1 i am having nothing but problems, battery life is now very poor and also it is taking 10 hours to charge phone from 0-100%. I am getting dropped calls and also call failed and hardly any 3g coverage at all even though i live in a big city. Is anyone else having the same problems and is 10 hours a long time to recharge an iphone?

Look at the recent posts and you'll see others are having similar problems. I suggest you restore as new, not from a backup and see how it runs when factory fresh, without any third party apps.

  • WRVS4400N Firmware 1.1.03 problem

I recently updated my WRVS4400N firmware to 1.01.03.  I use WPA-Personal with AES encryption security for my wireless laptops.  I disabled Wireless SSID Broadcast and only allow my laptop MAC address to access my router.  After I upgraded to 1.1.03 which is the latest firmware from Linksys.com.  My wireless laptops drop session all the time.  I rebuilt the client wireless profile did not help.  Does anyone have the similar problem?
    Brian

Yes,  I reset several times and also reset it by holding the reset button at the back of the device several seconds without helping.

  • Thunderbolt Firmware 1.2 update problem

I have an iMac 27" 3.4ghz, 16GB RAM, 768 Flash Drive (SSD), and 2gb VRAM.
The system is only 1 1/2 weeks old and after updating to Thunderbolt Firmware 1.2, both of my ports are not being recognized at all. In other words, they are dead. I've called Apple Tech Support and went through various troubleshooting steps including SMC Reset, Zapping the PRAM, safe booting, etc. and yet nothing works. Finally, they had me do a system image and forward it to their software technicians. The case was opened this past Sunday and I was told they would be getting back to me within 48 hours, but havent heard back just yet.
One thing I should point out, my system keeps telling me that there is a software update showing me the Thunderbolt Firmware Update 1.2 is available. I've tried to update many different times and it keeps showing up after my system restarts.
Has anyone else been having this problem after updating to Firmware 1.2 or had any luck updating on an iMac 2012?

I tried this (unplugging/replugging Thunderbolt cable), and rebooting MBP, and unplugging/replugging power cable to the Thunderbolt display. None solved the problem after Thunderbolt Firmware 1.2 update.  Prior to Thunderbolt Firmware 1.2 update usually one of those operations would resolve the problem.
However adding the keyboard USB extension cable makes the keyboard working again when connected to the Thunderbolt display.

  • Latest firmware update and startup problems

Hi I have been reading all about this so-called firmware and its importance in keeping updated on my new macbook pro. Therefore I have been diligently trying to keep it updated over my dial-up connection. I installed the latest firmware as my automatic update suggested. Now I get the spinning startup circle of death. Tried booting in safe mode to no avail. Help? (I also have version cue installed.)

    Hi jbell,
Firmware updates are not availible in Software Update, only sofware updates are. Did you Repair Permissions prior to and after updating software? You always should. Go to Applications-Utilities-Disk Utility, and highlight Mac OS X in the left hand column, then Repair Permissions below. Firmware updates are available here....
