Re-formatted computer, can't re-install songs

I recently re-formatted my computer. I had backed up all of my itunes songs to disc and thought that simply by copying them back into my new itunes folder that I could once again access the songs. However, Itunes is making me find the songs manually, one at a time in order to play them. We're talking hundreds of songs here. How do I once again access all of the songs in that folder without doing it one-by-one?
Don

If you don't mind losing your meta data and play lists, the simplest thing to do is:
Close iTunes then drag iTunes Library.itl and iTunes Music Library.xml from the iTunes folder to your desk top.
Restart iTunes and you will have an empty library. Now use File>>Add folder to library... to add your iTunes Music folder.
If you really care about you play lists and ratings etc, it MAY be possible to do something but it is much more complicated. We would need to look in detail at exactly what you folders have backed up and how you attemted to restore the files. Was the backup to an external HD?

Just hit the arrow to the left side of the ipods name
in iTUnes, then select "Music" under the ipods name

  • New computer - can I re-install Lightroom?

I purchased Lightroom 3 for my old computer - I've now upgraded to a new computer - and want to install my copy of lightroom on the new one - how do I do this?

Which operating system? I assume you've still got your valid serial number.
    Download Lightroom 3.3 from Adobe.com

  • New computer:  Can I upload new songs from my new computer to my old ipod without deleting the playlists that already exist??

I recently had to purchase a new computer due to my old one shooting sparks and almost setting fire to my furniture when I used it.  I can use it rarely to try to get my itunes loaded to transfer over, but it usually doesn't cooperate.  I now have a bunch of new songs on my new itunes from purchases and also uploading old cd's.  I want to be able to add these songs to my playlists I already have mostly because I use my ipod to work out and also, there are a large amount of songs from my old computer on playlists currently. Is there anyway to make new playlists from my new computer onto my old ipod??

You should be backing up regularly so you can transfer your library to the new computer.
    Otherwise, you can transfer purchases

For non-purchased content you will need to find a 3rd party app

  • IPod on new computer - can't transfer new songs to iPod

    Hi
I've just got a new PC and have downloaded iTunes. When I connected my iPod it said it was already synced with another iTunes library (ie on my old computer).
I managed to transfer all my purchased music from my iPod to iTunes on my new computer. But I've bought some new songs from the iTunes store and I now can't seem to transfer them to my iPod.
Anybody know how I can fix this please?
    Kind regards

  • Stolen ipod and computer - can I retrieve my songs?

My computer and ipod were both stolen in a break-in. (I have the serial numbers and the police report number). Is there any way I can retrieve the songs I had on my ipod and put them into the replacement? For example are they stored somewhere on itunes linked to my account?

Songs which you purchase are downloaded to your computer, there is nothing stored anywhere else on your behalf, all that is kept is a record of your purchases. The policy on lost purchases is that you have to pay to download them again:
"Once a Product is purchased and you receive the Product, it is your responsibility not to lose, destroy, or damage the Product, and Apple shall be without liability to you in the event of any loss, destruction, or damage." iTunes Store: Purchased content can be downloaded only once
You could try contacting the iTunes Music Store Customer Service and you might be able to persuade them to sanction a second free download. There have been occasional reports in the iTunes forum of this happening, however just be aware that they are not under any obligation to do so. If you click on any of the links on this page you'll find a space at the bottom to email your query: iTMS Customer Service

  • Computer crashed, put hard drive in new computer, can't get all songs?

Here is the story. Had 700+ itunes songs on hard drive. That computer crashed. Bought a new computer and pulled out the hard drive from the crashed one and put it into the new computer. Got it working but itunes only recognizes 178 of the 700+ itunes songs. Cannot get the library to open in anything other than Internet Explorer. Can someone please provide some guidance on what I might be able to do to fix this issue? Thanks!

    What a nightmare!
How did you get the 178 songs into iTunes? Have you tried adding the missing ones?
What do you mean by this?

  • Restoring Computer-Can I re-install CS4?

I need to restore my computer to factory settings. I don't have my disk for CS4 anymore, but I do have the serial number. Is there a way to download it after my computer has restored? Or is there a way to save it somehow?

    Try here http://prodesigntools.com/download-adobe-cs4-and-cs3-free-trials-here.html
    Follow the instructions closely.
If it works, backup, backup, backup. There's no guarantee these links will work next time you need them.

    Yes, you can!(:
    STEP 1: Open iTunes
STEP 2: Navigate to the "iTunes Store". It can be found under the "STORE" tab.
STEP 3: On the right side of the store there should be a "Quick Links" Section. Click on the "Purchased" link.
STEP 4: Navigate to the "Music" tab and click on "All Songs". Then at the bottom of the screen there will be a button that says "Download All". Click the button and your songs will be begin downloading!
NOTE: This will only work with songs that you bought from the iTunes store, if you imported them from a CD, you will have to do it again.
NOTE: You can also do this with Apps, Movies, TV Shows, and Books.
NOTE: You may have to sign in with your Apple ID to verify the download.
Hope this helped! Enjoy your music!(:

  • I've just got a new computer does any one know how to transfer my song to my new computer. I've installed itunes but can't seem to transfer the songs

I've just got a new computer does any one know how to transfer my song to my new computer. I've installed itunes but can't seem to transfer the songs.

    you can use home sharing.
or, assuming you have all your media files in the default location, copy the entire iTunes folder (not just the iTunes music or media folder) from the old to the exact same location on the new machine.
you can either use your network or an external HD for that.

  • Late 2008 macbook 13" prompts mac OS can not be installed on this computer after booting from disc as l get the folder with the question mark screen. New HDD or ?

From the little research l have done, l have been convinced l may be having a dead hard drive though after having tried all the other troubleshooting tips found here, when trying to boot l get the grey screen and folder with the question mark suggesting it can not find the files neccessary to boot hence l tried booting with the disc and the message l get is that mac OS X can not be installed on this computer, though after doing the hardware check etc they all say okay. I've even tried erasing the drive and trying to instal the OS afresh with no luck. Any ideas or l must just get a new hard drive?

Pretty sure BGreg hit the nail on the head. If your hard drive was failing, you would still be able to at least attempt an install, provided your ard drive was mounting. You usually get that message when the disk is incompatible with the computer. If it is the proper disk, you might try erasing the disk (provided your info is backed up) using Disk Utility (under Utilities in the menubar) and choose the Mac OSX Extended (Journaled) format.

  • Can not import all songs from computer HD

only some of my songs import from my HD to Itunes library. How can I get all of the to import. they are all mp3 files.
      Windows XP

I have the same problem but I have some more info onwhat happens with my songs. First of all I want to say that all the songs I am talking about are in MP3 format with all the tags completed correctly.
I have two computers and iTunes on both of them and I had noticed this behaviour when importing miscellaneous songs into my main computer's iTunes library. So before I tried importing my collection of 2800 songs from full albums into my existing iTunes library I used my second computer to verify that all the songs would be imported into an empty library, and they were. However, when I went back to my main computer and imported the same songs, from the same folder structure, iTunes skipped several of the songs.
Can somebody please tell me if iTunes has some kind of integrated filter for removing duplicate entries when importing MP3 files.
    Thanks

  • How can I recover Itunes songs after I changed my computer

I have my lists of songs, songs, etc in my IPAD and IPOD. I changed the computer and as I downloaded ITUNES, it's empty. How can I transfer my songs and lists from my IPAD or IPOD to ITUNES?
    Thanks

Of course it is empty... what did you seriously expect?
Installing iTunes has never caused media to magically appear on a computer.
The media is only where the user puts it.
Copy the ENTIRE iTunes folder from the old computer or the backup of the old computer to the new computer.
