Re: (forte-users) No response from Router partition

Sounds like what we have been experiencing here, on Unix.
According to Forté, upgrading to 3M should resolve it. Unfortunately, we
can't
confirm it yet, as we are in the process of upgrading and testing.
I believe this is documented as an "internal" Forté bug report.
Hope this hels.

Subject: (forte-users) No response from Router partition
Hi All,
One of the router partitions on NT server stops responding once in awhile. We can not get to it through escript or econsole and the only
solution we have is to shutdown the ftexec using task manager and start
the partition again. We don't see any error messages in the log except
this line "LbRouter::AttachToRouter - Ignoring DOM version: -1 obj
version: 0". Does anyone have any idea what this means? Is there any way
to figure out the problem? We are using Forte 3L3. Thanks in advance.
Thanks

    Well, there are some graphic FTP clients for windows that allow
    you to get files from FTP-servers using simple drag and drop.
    Most of them even support the option of selecting a directory
    and dragging it, with all its subdirectories, to your local drive
    with a single mouse action.
    The only problem might be with binary vs. text files. The appdist
    directory has both filetypes. Getting text files as if they were
    binary files may cause problems. Getting binary files as if they
    were text certainly will cause problems. So, either get the
    whole tree binary and hope for the best. Or get each file indi-
    vidually and set the correct bin or asc setting. Or use a tool
    that is smart enough to see if a file is binary or text and hope
    it doesn't make any mistakes.

    Does anyone here have a simple way to copy a whole appdist tree for myapp1

    eg:

    should go to NT machine ntbox1
    [ntbox1] d:\temp\myapp\cl3\...
    Even just to d:\temp\aenv_myapp_cl3\... will do.
    ftp doesn't seem to do the trick here. Of cause I could write some routine

    I'm getting an error when calling an OLE method which

    As an FYI, to find out what the error message means, you can take the hex
    number (in this case 0x8002000E) and search through the winerror.h file.
    That will give you a better idea of what the actual problem is.

  • Waiting on a user's response (from the gui)

    This should be a really simple problem, but I can't work it out.
    I have two classes, my Engine and my Gui. The Engine tells the Gui what to display, the gui displays it and has methods to fire events when a user presses a button. I want to do something like the following
    public class Engine {
      Gui gui;
      String[] pictures;
      // ... a bunch of stuff
      public void showPictures {
        for (int i=0; i<pictures.length; i++)
          gui.showPicture(pictures);
    // wait on the user's response
    Here's the question: preferably without using threading (though I could if I had to), how can I wait on a user's response from within a loop?
    I considered having a boolean flag "hasResponded" in the gui, and then having a do-while loop just spinning until it saw that gui.hasResponded was equal to true, but it seems that this would add a lot of unnecessary processing load.
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks!

    don1983p wrote:
    I have the same question "So question is still just the simple one above: can I (easily) wait on some event, like the gui recording an action or anything else, from within a loop?"...If you have a question to ask, do so in a new thread. Don't resurrect a long-dead thread. Sure you can refer to it and even link to it, but let it rest in peace.
    Any new ideas?Why would you expect the answer to change? You don't do this via a loop as GUIs don't work like this. Have you gone through the Swing tutorials? If not, please go through them as they'll show you how to do this correctly.
    I wrote a WHILE loop, the condition of the loop being the values (getActionCommand) of some buttons being pressed. How can I wait for another button being pressed so I can get out of the loop?You don't. If you need to time a response, then use a Swing Timer. But most importantly, read the Swing tutorials.

    Sure, it's not platform independent, since it will only work on NT,
    but it is fax-gateway independent. MAPI is an interface to several

  • Received response from host (router IP address) with invalid source port 32784

    I replaced my old wireless router with a Cisco Linksys E4200, running firmware version 1.0.02 build 13  May 24, 2011.  About once a minute the router sends an unsolicited DNS message to the IPV4 multicast address 01:00:5e:00:00:fb with a destination IP address of 224.0.0.251.  The unsolicited message is a DNS response with source port 32784, transaction ID 0, flags 0x8400 (standard query response, no error), questions 0, answer RRs 2, authority RRs 0 and additional RRs 1.  The two answers both relate to the router itself: one has Name Cisco18738.local, type A (host address), class 1 (IN), cache flush true, time to live 1 minute, data length 4, and the address of the router.  The other is the reverse of the same address.  The additional record is for Cisco18738.local, type NSEC, class IN, cache flush true, time to live 1 minute, data length 5, next domain name Cisco18738.local, RR type A (host address).
    When my desktop computer receives these messages it logs an error, for example: "Jun 23 07:39:22 sauterws02 avahi-daemon[1067]: Received response from host 10.146.9.1 with invalid source port 32784 on interface 'eth0.0'"  The 10.146.9.1 is the router's IP address.  I also see these messages on the wireless link from my laptop.
    I suppose the E4200 is generating these DNS messages in a misguided attempt to make sure there is no old information about its name.  Is there a way to turn them off?  If not, is there a way to report this to Cisco as a bug?
    Solved!

    Thank you for the reference.  For the sake of others who may read this thread, the current draft of multicast DNS is at http://www.ietf.org/id/draft-cheshire-dnsext-multicastdns-14.txt.
    Here is the whole paragraph from which you quoted, from section 6 (Responding): "The source UDP port in all Multicast DNS Responses MUST be 5353 (the well-known port assigned to mDNS). Multicast DNS implementations MUST silently ignore any Multicast DNS Responses they receive where the source UDP port is not 5353."
    Thus, it appears that there are two errors here: the Cisco E4200 is not using 5353 as the source port, and the logger is not silently ignoring it.
    The message appears to be an announcement rather than an actual response to a query.  In section 8.3 (Announcing) I found this paragraph: "A Multicast DNS Responder MUST NOT send announcements in the absence of information that its network connectivity may have changed in some relevant way. In particular, a Multicast DNS Responder MUST NOT send regular periodic announcements as a matter of course."  Thus, it appears that there are three errors here.

    When some people invite me to chat on Ichat, they get an error message saying "waiting for response from user."  On my end, I never get the invite.  Other people are able to invite me without any problem.  How do I fix this?  Is the problem on my end?
    Thank you!

    Hi,
    I can see now where the issue is.
    A Jabber Buddy list can only accept Jabber Buddies.
    A Buddy List that Logs into AIM such as your @Me.com name can only add Valid AIM Names to it as Buddies.
    The main problem is that both Jabber IDs and AIM names can have the @symbol on them and look like email addresses.
    Example Jabber IDs
    Example "AIM " Names
    [email protected]
    ralphjonhsr  (No @)
    [email protected]
    [email protected]  (Apple ID type)
    [email protected]
    [email protected] (Apple ID type)
    any Facebook name
    [email protected] (Email registered with AIM)
    So your Jabber Buddy List will find that there is No (@)me.com Jabber server and say the message cannot be delivered.
    The AIM (@Me.com) Buddy never gets the Request for Authorisation for the same reason and the auto response of adding An ID/Name to Send a Message to starts iChat wanting that person to Accept or Decline being a Buddy- which they cannot do - so you get the name with the "Waiting for..." message.
    Either everyone gets a Jabber ID or everyone gets a Valid AIM Name.

  • Migrating users from other partitions

    I'm dealing with "Epic Stupid" in how Apple handles something in 10.4.
    My hard drive developed a few bad blocks. It's becoming unusable because apparently those bad blocks are directly under certain key files, because it's hard to do much without getting "stun locked" by the gorram beach ball.
    Anyway, my disk has a second partition on it which was unused. I went ahead and formatted that partition, wrote the partition with zeros (which I hope had the effect of flagging all bad blocks), and installed OS X 10.4.10 from the DVD's.
    Naturally the system comes up and treats me like I'm a completely new user of MacOS. It allows me to import users from other partitions -- but here's the problem. It wants to migrate the users, which would be great for preserving disk permissions - but then it wants to COPY ALL THEIR DATA. That's ridiculous. Their data is already on the other partition. I want to copy the identities but not all their data.
    How am I supposed to do that? Import the user identities and tie it back to the UID that's on the other partition so <user X> can access <user X>'s data?
    By the way, other than that, putting the boot OS on the new partition is working great. No beach balls unless I touch the other partition.

    Yeah I know Virtually all of my data is copied off already. I say "virtually" because the backup was piecemeal, and I'm
    a) not 100% sure I got everything and
    b) not looking forward to hand-reassembling my entire environment from scratch. I.E. I don't relish reloading all my songs into iTunes and resetting play counts to zero, having it forget which podcasts I've listened to, etc. etc.
    I would prefer if possible to get one "coherent" backup and it appears the problem partition is no longer reliably bootable.

  • Subject: RE :(forte-users) Web enterprise & user visibleservice Objects

    A few months ago we faced a similar problem while migrating from classic
    Forte to Web. We had to protect our investment in various frameworks that we
    wrote for the classic Forte apps, which made use of extensive
    user-level-caching among other things.
    We solved the problem using a custom routing mechanism. In brief, we created
    several( replicated) server partitions that contains all the user-level
    Service objects that existed in the class-Forte apps. Then we wrote a
    'custom-router' which mimics Forte load-balanced router( dialog duration =
    session ) to intelligently route incoming HTTPRequests to one of these
    replicated partitions. The router would look at the some tag on the session
    and then route the request to one of these replicated "client clone" using
    the tag. Successive requests from the same client will go to the same
    replicated partition so that you can use the client-cache or any other
    per-user services.
    The advantages of this approach are
    1) You can continue to make use of caching and other user-level components
    that you may have.
    2) The web and classic Forte clients can work seamlessly if you write them
    to use reference partitions that hosts the other shared( Environment visible
    ) service objects.
    Ofcourse you will have to write ( and maintain )the custom-routing code and
    also pay attention to house-keeping. For example, the burdon of cleaning up
    the cache on logout or session expiration lies on you. If you don't do this,
    then your new user might be looking at an old cache of some other user.
    Hope this helps,

    Subject: (forte-users) Web enterprise & user visible service objects
    Hi
    We have taken a forte application and converted it to run on the web using
    * forte web enterprise &
    * fortecgi.exe
    In the forte application we have a user visible Local Cache Manager
    Service Object (i.e. each users has their own copy) for storing things
    like
    * the details of the current user id
    * the details of the current client chosen
    * arrays that are needed by other windows
    With web enterprise this service object is no longer user visible, how can
    we make it user visible?
    Thanks in advance.
