Guess what? I have misplaced (lost) my recovery boot USB drive.   I knew this could happen.  I am sure I have put it somewhere I thought at the time would be discoverable.  Has anyone else had this happen and what was your next move?

  • Portege R700 - original recovery image re-installation failed

    Hello
I have a Toshiba Portege R700 for years.
As i already have some trouble, i did a reinstallation few years ago, from recovery partition. Directly.
But, few days ago, i had some issues with my portege.
HDD seems to be broken as it make some noise and was really, really, really, ..., really slow.
So, after making some data backup during hours and hours (remember, it was really, ..., really slow), i lauch a complete re-installation from "recovery partition". It seems to be good, but .. never finished the process, with same HDD noise, and again slow HDD I/O.
OK, my own diadnostic: change HDD.
This done, and using the Toshiba recovery DVD just bought (yes impossible to find the earlied burn DVD), i have ... the same issue. The recovery process does not end even if 'im waiting for days ...
And i have the same HDD noise. With the new one!!
So having a MSDN licence, i installed a Win7 Pro 32bits, but not the Toshiba one.
And it's running for days without any issue!
But i have to reinstall all drivers, and software delivered by Toshiba.
Obviouly i will prefer to find what is the exact issue with this Portege, and reinstall the Toshiba version of Windows 7 Pro.
So, if someonre read the story until, the question is: ANY IDEA?
How to make a HW diagnostic? How to identify the exact problem?
    Thanks for your help.

    Hi Dr Lamp.
    Remember that i
    - did a successfull recovery from recovery partition few years ago
    - tried 2 recovery recently
try 1, from recovery with initial HDD.
I'm not REALLY sure, but i think that the recovery failled during step "recovery image installation from copied data step 50/52"
    I'm not sure.
As it take hours during this step, if it go to the next step or not, as i let it run for hours and hours (yes, i'm persistent)
try 2, from original Toshiba DVD i ordered (35)
I'm sure it fail during an additionnal step you forgot.
Because after "installed OS will be prepared for usage", which configure a lot of things using numerous reboot, there is the final step which is "first launch of win7"
Note that not the exact term, but is something like that.
    Thanks for your help

  • GE60 2PE

I am thinking of purchasing the 15" GE60 2PE & installing an SSD drive by removing the optical drive. I understand it would be better to put the HDD in the optical drive but how do I install the OS on the SSD. I only want to install Windows 8.
Also which caddy will I need & where will I obtain a cover for the optical drive space.

Get whatever you want honestly. Almost any of them should work well.
Make the backup disks for your computer (through MSI Burn Recovery).
Remove the HDD, install the mSATA SSD.
Install Windows/etc using the backup disks.
After windows is setup and working well, install the HDD and ensure you're booting from the mSATA SSD.
Once you're sure you're booting from the mSATA SSD, erase/format the HDD and you're good to go.

  • GE60 2PE Don't boot to BIOS, notebook bricked.

Hello, Yesterday night I was watching a youtube show on my netbook, running without power supply only with the battery (I only done this for 3 times in 7 months so I'm not worried about battery being discharged) and I fall sleep. This morning when I waked up, I tried to boot from hibernation to properly shutdown the system but the netbook doesn't boot.
    Things I tried to do:
1º - I tried to power on normally only running from battery. Only power on with blue/orange power light, and a small light from the HDD for 2 seconds nothing happened.
2º - Power off by pressing power button for 4 seconds. I waited 5 mins I plugged in the power adaptor and I tried again with same results, don't boot.
3º - Removed battery and power adaptor, I pressed power button for 60 seconds to discharge (i saw this advice on Youtube). Plugged in only power adaptor and tried to power on. Same results, don't boot.
4º - Removed battery and power adaptor, presed power button for 60 seconds to discharge (). I connected the netbook to my TV with a HDMI cable, plugged in only power adaptor and tried to power on. Same results, don't boot.
    Symptoms:
Power on, power LED in blue color for half second later turns to orange color only, no blinking only the same orange color all the time. The fan starts to spin in normal speed, HDD led blinks for 1-2 seconds and off. The screen is off (no light even on the back cover where the MSI dragon badge is), don't appears MSI logotype, no BIOS mesage or sound, no screen(fully black no backlight) no HDD. Laptop keeps running.
    System info:
    MSI GE60-2PE "Apache Pro",
Geniune Windows 8.0 PRO (My own license not from MSI, and it's 8.0 not 8.1 I don't like to update)
BIOS UEFI in fast boot mode, legacy USB disable. USB Handoff fixes disabled in BIOS, Enabled only boot from HDD/win8. The rest i think it's default settings.
    BIOS: E16GFIMS.529 (previously .528 and .526)
    Motherboard: MS16-GF
EC Firmware: 16GFEMS1.50B (I can't remember if I updated firmwares previously)
    Touchpad Firmware: 03
HDD:Standart WD HDD, no msata drives. No intel RAID.
    DVD: Standart LG DVD.
    RAM: 4Gb Standart Samsung/Hynix? SODIMM + 4Gb GSkill DD3L 1.666Mhz (1.35v) upgraded by myself.
All drivers installed with the exception of the integrated radio switch controller.
Intel HD 4600 - OK (updated 01/2015 from manufacturer)
Nvidia Graphics - OK (updated 12/2014 from manufacturer)
    Intel WiFi/Bluetooth 3160 - OK (updated 01/2015 from manufacturer)
Atheros KillerNIC - OK (Drivers version from MSI DVD)
Elantech Touchpad - OK (updated in 01/2015 from MSI support page)
Intel chipset stuff - OK (update 12/2014 from manufacturer)
Webcam - OK (no drivers installed, work with windows8 deafult drivers)
    Software installed:
Only MSI KLM (keyboard light manager) with also installed a SCM service.
The netbook worked smooth since the begining until today for 7 months (really great hardware). The only thing i suppose that could be a problem with BIOS update (I updated two weeks ago) or EC firmware (I updated 3-4 weeks ago), since I don't worked withour power adaptor from new year, until today.
There's something I could do that I miss? a reset jumper, or reset CMOS button. Or I should ask to RMA to my netbook shop.
PD: I don't like to get a replacement netbook from other RMA user. I want my machine, I know what it's done and how it's done,  I have my stickers in mint condition, I know my battery is well mantained, I have my FAN clean, I have the exterior and screen really clean and without scratches, have all my personal data on HDD. Should be worried about getting someones netbook? I should remove the HDD to avoid my personal data being compromised and I can lose them (i don't have backup)?
Also apologize my english, but the spanish forum looks empty and dead, only see news.

I suppose so, thanks chc for your time reading my issue.
I should contact my shop for RMA.

  • FPS / Stuttering Issues (Overheat , Speedstep Issues ? ) MSI GE60 2PE APACHE PRO

    **EDIT**
Unable to post direct image links , please ad HTTP:// before links
Good evening Fellow Gamers and Adepts.
I come to you tonight with a serious doubt , which has rattled me for a while , and after some intense troubleshooting i have came up blank.
    Here's the deal , as stated , i have a MSI GE60 2PE apache Pro
Now , playing cs go has been the bane of my existence, i am aware there are heating issues with this laptop , but those have been fixed by a Thermal repaste, a cooling pad and the backplate removed.
Now i have no more throttling of CPU , and GPU appears to handle fine aswell; the thing is i keep having MASSIVE lag spikes in CS:GO , and apparently they are being cause by CPU issues.
    Image for clarification .
(Standart situation , notice the relative low fps for a old game)
    imgur.com/cJ2Ly80
After a few seconds the following occurs
    imgur.com/cJ2Ly80,27y1P5C,aq30R4r#1
Notice the fps drop and the CPU frequency percent alert in game
another shot of this in console so you can see the several occurrences
    imgur.com/cJ2Ly80,27y1P5C,aq30R4r#2
now keep in mind that these are the lowest game settings, in Fullscreen windowed mode , if i even CONSIDER putting it on standart fullscreen i get unplayable jitterness and fps that range from 10 to 80 , all in a second.
Now , as i have stated i have fooled around and disabled speedstep in the bios , meaning that the cpu is always at 100%, seeing i have removed the backplate , throttling is not an issue as IXT (Intel extreme tuning) can attest.
note aswell the "active core count" spikes to 4/3 in the exact moments of the stutters, meaning that both problems should , in theory , be connected .

can ANYONE give me an ideia of whats going on ? i rather enjoy playing with games with friends , but this is driving me up the wall..
Lastest NVIDIA / Laptop drivers installed ; Bios Updated and EC firmware aswell.
Thank you for your time guys x)

  • Recovery Image on an External Hard Drive?

I was wondering if I could save a recovery image on my external hard drive?
It says to use a USB or Disc, but my computer doesn't have a CD drive, and I don't have a USB with a min of 19GB. What I do have are several 8GB, and less, and one 16GB, but these won't work for this. Nor do I have an external CD drive.
So I was wondering if I could use my external hard drive [It's got 2TB, but it's not empty...]?
I was just hoping for another option rather than buying a new USB... or external CD drive...

There is no way that I know of to trick Recovery Manager into using the external hdd.
Just an FYI- not all USB flash drives will work. We see many people posting about problems with creating the recovery. I just made mine and it failed to recognize a Sandisk 3.0 drive. Tried a PNY 3.0 and it worked smooth and fast.

  • How to reinstall Windows 8 on Yoga 13 with damaged Recovery Image?

I changed the partitions on my Yoga 13. Now it is not possible to refresh, reinstall or perform an advance start-up, as it looks like there is no recovery image anymore. The systems is currently very messy and needs a reinstall.
Can someone tell me how to reinstall Windows 8 on the Yoga 13 when the recovery image is lost or damaged?

    hi Chevex,
Thanks for using Lenovo Community Forums!
In the event that the Recovery partition is not working the only option is to use the Recovery CD that you can create when you first got the computer.
but if you were not able to create a Recovery CD and the Onekey Recovery is not working.
You can get the Recovery CD from the Software Department (Fees may apply to the discs)
you can contact the Hardware Team again and ask to be transferred to Software team for purchasing RCD

  • HP 7 Plus 1301 - Need recovery image of 1.1.3

    Good morning,
I bought an HP 7 Plus 1301 last week, and unfortunately the file system is corrupt. It cannot load Android and I need to flash a recovery image.
Unfortunately the recovery image available on the HP website is version 1.0.9
When I attempt to flash the recovery, it fails on a check of the ro.build.date.utc less_than_int
This means it is checking if the recovery image is older than the version currently installed, which is 1.1.3
Can I please be sent a recovery image (update.zip) for 1.1.3 or later so that I can restore the software on the tablet?

Hi millab, welcome to the HP Forums. Unfortunately there are no other versions available of the recovery image.
You should be able to get passed the version comparison by doing a 'wipe data / factory reset'.
You can find the instructions under "Resetting when the tablet does not start" in this document:  Performing a Factory Reset on Your Tablet (Android KitKat, Jelly Bean)
    I hope this helps.

  • Recovery image

I want to create a recovery image, to create my recovery dics.  I can not do it because I don't have enought space in the D:.  If something is wrong with the operating system in the future. I will not be able to recover my system?

You will still be able to recover your system to factory condition using the Onekey Rescue System (restoring from the image stored on the hidden partition).  You might want to buy an external hard drive if you don't have one on hand, so that even if your hard disk fails (which would make any images on the D drive useless), your image and other backups will be safe.  It is still possible to create the recovery discs using an image on an external drive.

  • Lost all images in Keynotes for your college lectures

    Hello,
I spent a great amount of time developing 15 keynotes for an art history course.  I've upgraded to  a new macbook (early 2013 retina) and bought the Keynote 09 5.3 .
Now I've lost all images on my slides?  This is infuriating! I copied the folder of presentations to an external drive.  They also do not show up when accessed from the old macbook using the drive.  Nothing is corrupted on the external drive but these keynotes.
I see images on the thumbnails.  But the slides show placeholders.
    Please help!

All Images is not a location. It's a list.
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.
    Regards
    TD

  • Unable to create a recovery image

    Hello,
I've just bought an HP Pavillion x2, it has a 64 GB SSD.  I want to create a recovery image using the HP utility but when I try to it fails. I think it is because there isn't enough space on the Windows partition in order to create the image.  I have a USB drive plugged in with 27GB free but it seems like it's creating the image on the C drive before it copies to the USB drive. I don't want to delete my recovery partition until I know I've got another copy and I can't find anything else to uninstall to get the 14 GB i need (have 12 GB free). I've only had the tablet a few days so haven't got much on here, have uninstalled everything I've put on here except for the Windows updates I did. I've cleared the temp file wimy user profile.
Does anyone have any ideas what I can do?
    Thanks
    Juliet
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

I did go through the Windows routine of creating a recovery image but it was slightly vague as to whether it would be suitable. Anyway I eventually restored the machine to factory defaults, created the recovery image straight away and it worked fine, then after installing Win 8.1 I ended up with loads more free space anyway.

  • I lost my images from my hard drive and now I can not access them in Lightroom. What can I do?

I lost my images from my hard drive and now I can not access them in Lightroom. What can I do?

Your images are truly no longer present on the hard drive(s)? Have you had your operating system do a search for them?
If such a search fails to find them, here's what I would do, in order
Look in the trash can/recycle bin
    Restore from backups
If you don't have backups ... well, why not? ... find a program on the internet called an "undelete utility" (free versons are available) and then download and install it and run it. If you are going to do this, then do not perform any other tasks on your computer except find the program, download it (if possible to a different drive than the photos were stored on), install it (if possible to a different drive than the photos were stored on), and run it. In the future, you will need to commit to making regular backups of your photos and of your Lightroom catalog file, no excuses.
If that doesn't work, but the thumbnails still appear in Lightroom, you can probably recover the thumbnails from Lightroom via a plug-in, but these would be low-resolution versions of your photos, if you really need instructions on this step, write back

  • Recovery image error

I want to make a query and if you can tell me please what can I do, my husband bought a Toshiba laptop in April of this year in Best Buy New York, we live in Mexico. The problem is with the laptop, who recently started making a noise in the hard drive and the computer began to get slow, sometimes the operating system didnt start , so I try to make a restoration as a factory but it marks a error: Error 0x00000003 failed to collect image Click OK to poweroff your computer ....
The computer is under warranty, it is a Toshiba Satellite C55t Windows 8.1 64 bit, serial number XXXXXXXXXpart number PSCFJU 00T00E.
I Hope you can help me and tell me what can do in this case, thanks.
[Moderator edit to remove serial number.]

You should have a program installed called Toshiba Recovery Media Creator that allows you make recovery media on a USB stick. Try making the recovery USB stick and then try using that to perform the factory reset. If that doesn't work, let me know.
