Re: GE70 2QD-Apache Heating Problems

I have the latest GE72-2QF and yes, this is normal with enabled Intel TurboBoost. I "disabled" it by setting "Maximum processor state" at 98% in power management. Now temperatures are in 60-65C range.
Yes, TurboBoost overclocking can give you up to 30%...

Just noticed, I don't know when and how that happened    any ideas?
last bios and firmware.
UPDATE: Bios reset help, power LED now work, but wifi LED still off and don't blink

hey, my msi ge70 2pe apache pro when connect with a mouse, its touchpad cannot function.. what's the problem??

Like IronHide said, it's a default setting which disable the thouch-pad while a external mouse is plugged in.
But you can change this setting in the mouse properties.
Right click on the touch-pad icon in the notification area> Properties of Touch-Pad>ELAN page>Un-click the "Disable when external USB pointing device plug in>Apply

  • Need some info about getting started with the GE70 2PC Apache

    Hi guys!
I'm about to getting the new GE70 2PC Apache gaming notebook from MSI and since I'm really putting alot of money in this I really wanna handle it gently :p So I got some questions about this, since It'll be the first time I'd but a gaming notebook.
    1) 1st of all, what do I do when I've first started the laptop? Do I place in the CD and install all the newest drivers from that CD? Afterwards install an anti virus and then I should be good to go?
    2) I heard the Haswell i7 processors from Intel produce a hell of a lot heat. When I turn on turbo fan and turbo boost and I reach temperatures of around 90°C, would it harm the hardware of my laptop? Could any damage take place? Or would my processor/graphic card have a shorter life expectancy?
    3) The graphic card would be the GTX 850m. Now I'm wondering, is on this particular laptop -> (MSI-ge70-2pc-019be-apache-azerty), is the graphic card the DDR3 version or the GDDR5 version? Because I heard even the GTX 765m can outperform the 850m DDR3. But I also heard that the GDDR5 version of this graphic card is noticeably better than the 765M graphic card.
4)Is it wise to keep the processor going on turbo boost (3,4 Ghz) forever?
    5) Will I have internet problems? I heard alot of people having internet problems with the killer lan drivers lately..
    6) What laptop do you think I should pick in overall? The 2PC Apache version or the GE70 2OE version (the one without SSD) ?
    8) My Brother has the GE70 2OE which has the 765m graphics card, but he only has around 60 fps when he's playing League Of Legends, and LoL isn't the most demanding game right.. The FPS sometimes even drops to 40 (even when he's ALONE with no one around him). It feels like his FPS is capped at 60? Because most of the time it's just 60. But when I look at the settings I saw the FPS is uncapped.. I believe with this graphics card he must atleast achieve a constant 70-80 fps on this game right? Might something be wrong in the settings of the graphics card?
    7) Is there anything I should know before I start gaming on this laptop? (something I should do to have best performance or something..?)
    Grtz

    Well...
    1. When you get the laptop, use MSI Burn Recovery and make the backup disks (I prefer DVD's myself...). This way if something happens, you can reinstall all the software like you just bought it.
    2. Haswell does produce quite a bit of heat. As long as you don't get much higher than 90C you should be ok. If you're getting into the high 90's or even 100C range, you probably need to replace the heatsink compound. MSI has had a number of issues with that aspect on notebooks. It is easily done though.
    3. The only way to really answer that question is probably to contact MSI about it.  >>How to contact MSI.<<
    4. Turbo boost isn't really user controlled. I wouldn't worry about it.
    5. You might have issues. I'm honestly  not too sure. I know most people haven't had issues recently, but that's all relative. The drivers seem to be working rather well right now to be honest.
    6. Depends what you want and what is available. Maybe the GE70 20E + buy an SSD will be cheaper than just buying the Apache version. I don't really know, but you could always look into it.
    8. The 765M is a decent card....but remember, it's NOT the same as a 760 on a desktop. It's roughly equivalent to a 750 in the desktop world. That's not a bad card by any means, but you aren't going to be able to get 60+ FPS at 1920x1080 in many games. LOL is rather demanding as a game though to be perfectly honest. (throwing my personal opinion in on this, I always buy the highest end item I can in this case, because you won't be able to get any better really in the end until the next laptop comes out).
    7. I would setup all your games in the NVidia control panel to use the NVidia high performance graphics processor. That way there is no confusion and it will use the right video card.
You don't really need to update drivers UNLESS you're having an issue (like BSoD's or game freezes or something similar).
The MSI customer service in the EU really seems to be hit or miss. Some people seem to get good service, some people get really crappy service. I'm honestly not sure what the problem is over there. =/

  • Severe Lag Spikes - GE70 2PC Apache

    Hello everyone,
I consulted the search function and found out that I'm not alone with this, but sadly there also was no fix for my problem.
I bought the GE70 just recently and am pretty happy with it. It has decent specs and runs every game that I play very smoothly.
    Until I enter online modes.
I get super hard lag spikes from 50-60ms up to nearly 300ms, which is super annoying especially in games like dota2 or any shooter. These lags occur every 2-5 minutes. The MSI support suggested that I should lower my Wi-Fi adapter settings using these options
    Quote
    Dear user,
    1. Update the latest NVIDIA driver from the official MSI website.
    2. Configure the WLAN adapter setting
         1. change HT mode-> Disabled 2. Preferred Band -> 2.4GHz 3. Roaming Aggressiveness -> Lowest
We also suggest router with 802.11n
I did all of the above, but didnt achieve the desired outcome. In fact, it helped a little as it reduced the occurence of lags from every 2-5 minutes to every 5 minutes. Yet, i still believe that there has to be a final solution.
This is what my device manager looks like, after I updated the latest intel wifi & bluetooth drivers:
During all the research I did to find a solution to my problem, I cam up with a great way to test whether the problem is fixed or not.
So for everbody that has this problem and needs to check whether it is solved, after trying something new:
    WinKey + R
    type "cmd"
type "ipconfig" into the cmd window
locate the Standard-Gateway for the connection you're currently using (often times it's 192.168.1.1)
    type "ping 192.168.1.1 -t"
This will ping your router every second or two. If you leave it running for five to ten minutes, you can press Ctrl + Scroll Lock and it will show you some statistics. They look like this (if you have lag spikes)
Anyways, after reading quite a bit, i found out that the issues I'm having might relate to the Killer e2200, unfortunately, i was not able locating neither the newest driver nor the KillerCleaner (both of which are suggested here) and therefore could not try fixing it that way.
I am also suspecting the nvidia geforce experience software to be the cause, but i am not sure.
So here I am guys, trying to solve this problem, since it bugs me a lot. I just want to be able to play any game without these stupid lags. Simply using an ethernet cable is not an option. :(
So yeah, any help is appreciated.
    My Specs:
    GE70 2PC Apache
Win7 64bit Home Premium (free windows 10 upgrade, woohoo :D)
+ the connectivity devices from above
Here, have some more pictures of spikes:
    Edit: Wrong devmgr-pic attached.

Ofc i did. Twice in fact. Although the first support guys were only making wild guesses such as referring to this link https://dragoonarmy.msi.com/home/info/labs/detail/309 which relates to the GT72 and not the GE70 which has no Shift whatsoever.
Then they started talking about the HDDs power saving mode and decreasing the W-Lan-Adapters performance, as quoted above. Not only was nothing related to my problem but in fact completely off topic.
My second experience with the support was just now. They referred me to the same guide you did and which i found myself already.
Now the support dude suggests that i do this:
    - Reinstall Windows and only install SCM (which i believe to be the Steel Series thingy) and nothing else from the driverCD that came with the laptop.
    - then to update the bios and ec firmware (whatever that is)
and if nothing helps i am supposed to sent the laptop for a checkup. which sucks, as i am going to shanghai in a week. so either i reinstall windows. which already sucks. or i contact msi china once i am there. and explain my problem. in chinese. probably xD
Anyways, I don't think a new laptop should be more influenced by electromagnetic intereferences as an old one. since better shielding amirite?^^

  • GE70 2PE Apache Pro with unstable ping in dota2

Hi, I've just recently bought a GE70 2PE Apache Pro bout a month. Brand new laptop with only steam and dota2 install. Having this anoying problem with the unstable ping and spike in dota2. The ping goes from 80ms to 400ms + in seconds and comes back down to 90 again. This lag happens every 15 to 20 seconds. Warrantty changed a new wifi-card but still this problem wasnt fixed at all. Game seems to be fine with lan cable on. Wifi router connection stable and fine.
Any suggestions or what is causing this problem?

I am currently running with the setting like Tobi said since i get my computer which is a week ago. But it does not help  or solve the issue. In Malaysia, I do not know whether the router(you mentioned) in our market or not. Between, I have run some ping test and sent over the results to MSI. Well, they will collect my laptop and take it back for some test. So, if they gave me a proper solution, I will inform here. Quote from: hch;111131
LAN does not related to the wireless connection, so there will be no influence even if the LAN can work properly.
The settings from Tobi should help improving the situation.
(I've seen many people from other forums talk about those settings fix their issue.)
Have you tried using a router which supports the 802.11n or 802.11ac?
Intel AC wireless adapter is quiet new to the market and according to your router information, both router only supports 802.11 b/g. It's possible that they have some compatibility issues with the ac adapter.
There are many people talking about the performance of the AC wireless adapter and apparently for now, its best performance can be presented when connecting to the ac router in 5GHz bandwidth.
Another thing you might want to have a look on:
    http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/configure-metered-connections-in-windows-8/
Since you're using the 4G hotspot, make sure that you keep the metered connections OFF to prevent any restrict data usage.

  • BOSD, Battery issues and Heating problem after iOS 8 upgrade

i have upgraded my iPad mini to iOS 8. Ever since I upgraded to iOS 8 am facing blue screen issues and heating problem as well. This is really frustrating even the patch iOS 8.0.2 dint solve the problem. Are you guys listening our complaints. When will you fixing it.

The same thing happened to me on my 2012 Subaru Outback.  I'm not sure this will help you since you have a Honda, but I'm posting this just in case.
I paired the audio on my car with my iPhone 6.  However, when I turned the car off and back on again, the iPhone would not pair automatically.  I had to manually connect the iPhone with the car.  Turns out there are two separate bluetooth pairings on my car: one for phone which allows up to 5 devices and one for audio which allows only one device.  So I did the second bluetooth pairing for the phone (had already done the audio), and that fixed it.  YMMV

  • Heating problem and battery backup

Recently I bought a macbook pro (7 days). I am facing heating problem and its battery backup is also not good, 3-4 hrs, but company claims 7 hrs. What should I do?

For more on laptop temperature, look here:

    Take note of this part:
While there are third-party utilities that measure the temperature of a notebook computer, it is important to understand that these utilities are not measuring the external case temperature. The actual case temperature is much lower. Never use third-party applications to diagnose possible hardware issues—instead, contact Apple or go to an Apple Retail Store or Apple Authorized Service Provider.

  • My honest review of GE70 2PC Apache :) enjoy

    Heya guys
Today im gonna give you my review on the msi ge70 2pc apache, ive only had it for a few days and barely used it but i have tested it out to the max.
Before i start i wanna say my msi ge70 specs are not even that good its
    GTX 850M GDDR5
    I5-4200H
    8GB ram ddr3
    750GB 7200rpm Hdd
    17´3 screen 1080p anti-glare
ok i wanna start with the cons the negatives of this laptop
    1. The inbuilt mousepad thingy sucks so bad im serious it is no where near accurate so thank god for mouses :P
    2. Aluminium design is cool but u get finger prints everywhere srsly
    3. cool as ice when browsing internet and chillin but can get rly hot and sweaty when playing bf4 and other games at high settings your hands will sweat a little even with turbo cooler
    4. comes with 0 drivers and utility programs if u buy the laptop without an OS u have download from support burn to a dvd from another computer and then install takes time and is annoying because u cant acess internet since u got 0 drivers whatsoever.
5.it says 750gb hdd but its actually 698gb hdd
    6. has very bad battery life
    7. dragon gaming center is useless for this laptop it serves no function except for taking up unecessary ram i would only recommend SCM and even thats not so useful
    Pros:
    1. Even though it doesent have a ssd with fastboot enabled it is super super fast and boots in literally 10 seconds or less also shutsdown in like 4 secs speed
    2. Very strong performance and horsepower i can play bf4 on 1080p ultra preset 4xmsaa with a smooth 30 fps and no lag using only a middle class gtx 850m
    3. Cool keyboard lightning but its better if u dont use it performance wise
    4. never gets hot when ur just chillin stays very cool
    5. keyboard from steelseries is good
    6. killer e2200 is amazing went from 90mbps to 120 mbps
    7. if u get win 8.1 with this laptop it works very smooth and there is no lag
    8. plugged in the cpu and gpu are overclocked
    9. turbo cooler is better than nothing
    10. good support to download drivers from msi but it takes time and for a noob like me i was frustrated as hell at the beginning
    11. the display is topnotch a nice 17´3 fullhd with antiglare and strong brightness very good
    12. audio is very good quality
overall rating scale 1-10 i give this laptop a solid 8 tbh could be a 10 if only the cooling was better, its not bad but its not topnotch
Hope you enjoyed my rewiew and yes i do recommend this laptop but dont buy it without an OS if you are a noobie like i was!

    Quote
it says 750gb hdd but its actually 698gb hdd
That's perfectly fine, that's because Windows/Microsoft doesn't use correct SI units. 750 GB (Gigabyte) are 750000000000 bytes. ("Giga" just means "times 1000000000" by definition).
Windows shows the size of your harddrive in Gebibytes (GiB), Gebi means 1024*1024*1024 = 1073741824, however, incorrectly uses the unit Gigabyte (GB).
So your 750GB drive actually is 750000000000/1073741824 = 698.49GiB in size. That's exactly what Windows is telling you.

  • Due to the rumored heat problems with the iPad 3, is there a danger in using a leather case design for it.

I recently purchased a 64 GB Verizon LTE iPad,  along with a Bear Motion leather case designed specifically for that model. I've been reading a lot about the heat problems with the new iPad and although I haven't noticed them on mine, I'm worried that putting it in the case may cause worse problems. Is this something I should be concerned about?

Unless you have a defective iPad you should be fine.  The only time it should be heating up is when you're running an intensive app like a game that's working the quad-core processor and the screen.  I bought a Targus leather case for mine and play InfinityBlade2 on it and haven't noticed any heating issues with mine, but the part holding the iPad is plastic, so it can disipate heat better.
If your iPad gets too hot it'll warn you, so I'd use it for now and see what happens.  It'll shut down before it causes any permanent damage.

  • Macbook Pro Core Duo, Normal heat problems???

Hi guys. I have a First Generation Macbook Pro, i bought it like 8 months ago from ebay. The guy that sold me this mac told me that it doesn't have any heat problems at all, but im just, im sorry, i can't say the same right now.
Since i receive, when it turns on, It's ALWAYS 45 (Centigrees), ok, even if i don't start any app, it heats up to 50-55. Well. Then, when im doing normal stuff (Like, You know, using Adium, Firefox, just web browsing and hearing some music with itunes) it heats up to 60-65... The worst come when i use photoshop and Dreamweaver. Gets to 68 to 78, and then i must start using 3rd party Apps for control the Fans of the computer (im using SmcFanControl) moving the fans to 4000 rpm... But the problem get's when im trying to play Starcrat or use any other app that runs with rosseta, Easy can get to 90...
The Macbook Pro never shut down because a heat problem, but im just worried about it, this is normal?, here is the normal Specs of my computer.
    Model Name: MacBook Pro 15"
    Model Identifier: MacBookPro1,1
    Processor Name: Intel Core Duo
    Processor Speed: 2.16 GHz
    Number Of Processors: 1
    Total Number Of Cores: 2
    L2 Cache: 2 MB
    Memory: 2 GB
    Bus Speed: 667 MHz
Other problem i have, is that the Battery of the macbook pro, when i unplug the power cable it just turn off, without any advice that my battery is getting out of power. Is this normal? The battery have been changed before, like a year ago (again, from the words of my ebay seller)...
There's anything can i do?. I have applecare and i still have coverage until March 2009.
    Message was edited by: EgEm

The temperature ranges you report are "normal" and nothing to be concerned about.
Battery: Reset the SMC (System Management Controller) and re-calibrate the Battery every couple of months.

  • FireWire Audio Heat Problem (Macbook Pro, Late 2008) VIDEO proof

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JYHnX3CGUoo
After a lot of hours of trying to figure out WHY my macbook pro heats up (a lot) when i connect my newly bought Apogee Duet firewire audio interface, i found out that actually what was happening is that there are CPU spikes of extremely short period (so short that Activity Monitor and iStat could not catch) constantly spiking the CPU frequency from 1596Mhz (Idle) to 2572Mhz (Maximum). Apart from the frequency spike there is also a VOLTAGE spike from 1.0v to 1.15.
I know that this is normal due to speedstep technologies and such BUT the rapid spiking and alterations of frequency and voltage ALWAYS happening when i have my Firewire audio plugged is not normal to me. There is nothing else running, everything's idle and i only plug the firewire interface.
Also this is not happening when i restrict OSX from loading AppleFWAudio.kext (either by deleting, moving, renaming it). I connect the firewire audio interface, the leds are illuminating but no heat problem (thats to show you that is not because the interface is self-powered)
Whats going on seems to be similar with the problems occurred after Mac Pro Audio Update to users that was using FW audio devices. They were hearing a sine noise coming from their macpro and propably that was because the same thing was happening. Constant spikes of voltage to the CPU. I dont have a macpro thought so i cant apply the update Apple released for that issue.
Also, my macbook is using Lucent / Agere (LSI) firewire chipset (the particular and known revision 6) but i dont think that this is the cause since Apogee didnt have any problems with the chipset
Info: The app im using to monitor the Frequency and Voltage is CoolBook, can be found here: http://www.coolbook.se/CoolBook.html

Firewire Audio disconnected / or AppleFWAudio.kext unloaded = Idle temp arround 50 celcius (iStat)
Firewire Audio Connected with AppleFWAudio.kext loaded = Idle temp arround 60 celcius (iStat)
If theres a possibility that this is due to bus powered firewire device (cause i have an external FW hard drive that is self-powered and temps are not rising when i connect it) then AppleFWAudio.kext maybe manages something with bus powered firewire.
Maybe when i have the interface connected but the kext not loaded the mA sucked by the interface are too little for causing a temp rise but by the time the kext is loaded and the interface is converting audio the mA required tops up so the temp rise comes from the mA load on the firewire bus and not the cpu itself.
*Even if that's the case, the rapid spikes of throttling on the cpu by the time the Firewire Audio interface is connected bothers me. This isn't something that should normaly happen on an idling machine.*

I'm not sure whether to put it under "normal" heating or technical heating problem? I don't have a receipt because i got it as a gift, so what should i do to get it fixed from apple? thanks guys.

The ear receiver should not get warm under any condition.

  • [GE70 PC2 APACHE] - 2 Devices left in Device manager but all drivers installed

After I installed all the drivers that I found for this Model (GE70 2PC APACHE) I still have 2 things left in my Device manager. But I have no idea whats missing. And Windows cant find any fitting driver. Anyone know maybe what it could be ?
Installed Drivers for Soundcard, Nvidia, Intel Display Driver, Touchpad, Card Reader, Bluetooth, Wifi, LAN. Whats left that could be those 2 devices in Device Manager ?

    Hi,
I i don't know what drivers are missing if you have installed all drivers.
What you can do is, install this software " Driver Booster ". This software can detect the missing drivers and install them.

  • Practical solution for the Heat problem?

    Dear fellow Mac users,
I got my MacBook last friday. Yes, it's very Hot (temperature). I realised that you guys must be facing the same problem. I love this computer. But the heat is too much, i can't put it on my lap to work, when i travel...
Even typing on the keyboard for a long time in the library, i feel the heat coming out from the keyboard! so fustrating..
Are they any practical solution on how to reduce the heat? I dont want to dismantle the machine.
    Thank you very much!
    moses

Thanks for the recommendation of the pad. I guess it
will deplete the battery life quicker.
I am wonder, the heat problem, is it a APPLE's fault?
No, as Guitaristguy313 stated, the heat problem exist in most (or all?) Core Duo laptops, whether they are Apple branded or Sony branded or Dell branded. The MacBook is not running warmer than another Core Duo based laptop.
So it's apparently the normal operating temperature of Core Duo laptops.
That's not too surprising considering that Intel document its Core Duo to be in normal operating temperature if the cores of the CPU don't run higher than 100°C, and 100°C is a very high temperature.
Hopefully MacBooks Core Duo's cores generally don't run higher than 85°C, but while within specs according to Intel, it's still very high so it's not surprising that the notebook shell temperature is high also (according to a test on a website, the shell can reach 50°C when the Macbook is used intensively).
So if you really want to have a culprit for the high temperature of the Macbook (and in fact also other Core Duo notebooks), it would be Intel.
