Re: Getting to Know In Home Agent

I am new to this site. I have been trying to get the most recent Verizon in-home Agent (I sucessfully used an older version) up on my 64 bit Windows 7 machine and repeatedly get an installer error 1722. I have scanned my system and all my microsoft components are uncompromised.
This is a somewhat prevalent problem given all the Google postings but no one seems to have a solution. I was hoping someone here might be able to help.

I point to and quote from

a)
i like the online version of the app at www.verizon.com/repair
you can do a lot of the functions of the app without all the bloatware.
b)
As other have said it does something, it waste resources.  Not sure on the MAC, but on PC's it has been none to drive at least one cpu to 100% (If you only have one its really bad).  And the number of functions it does that you might ever want to do is minimal.
Personally I recommend that you uninstall it, and make sure you get all pieces of it.

  • In-Home Agent Fails - Supervisor Help Please!!!

    I recently installed fios.
I have never been able to get the In-Home Agent to work properly.
The graphics overlap each other in places and some of the text runs off the right edge, making parts unreadable.
If that weren't bad enough, 99% of the time the imbedded links do not function at all. ( I finally did get the "Chat" link to work once, but that was an exercise in futility.)
I see this on 2 different computers.
I have just downloaded the latest & greatest version to my Win7 computer and there is no difference.
The Chat & email support is completely useless. They know less than I do. (I let one "tech" take remote control of one of my computers and his impatience with with a slow application resulted in him trying to open the program about 15 times; causing the computer to drag to a halt. I had to do a hard reboot to recover from his ineptness.)
I was able to set up my hotspot account only because someone here in the forum showed me how to find my way through the mind-boggling labyrinth that Verizon calls a web site to the setup form and application.
Why can't I get proper support for this problem?
Does anyone at Verizon really care?
    It seems not.

  • Trouble Uninstalling In-Home Agent - Any suggestions?

I did uninstall In-Home Agent, however, surprise surprise - apparently it did not uninstall completely and  has lots of activity showing in my firewall process monitoring.  Which is rather interesting considering I no longer have any FIOS services and only have my iPhone 5 with Verizon.
There is a folder left with the executables, but no uninstall and it no longer dsplays under the windows program uninstall.
Tried simply moving the remaining folders to the recycle bin - had to restore them back because that caused havoc with my laptop.
Any suggestions on how to get this intrusive software off my laptop?
    Thanks

Try re-installing the program if you still have the installer handy, and then using Revo Uninstaller to kill it. You can also clean it out manually, which can be done
    http://www.revouninstaller.com/revo_uninstaller_free_download.html
Alternatively, check msconfig on your computer. Most of the time programs like In-Home agent install services or write start-up entries. You can likely disable the offending services or entries in msconfig, and then remove them completely once you've deleted the files. If you need some more explanation on that, just let me know.

  • AT-Home Agent trying to run VBScript

    Hi,
A couple weeks ago there was a very bizarre problem with my Fios, so I ran the At-Home Agent to try to see if it reported any service outages related to my specific problem...and I was told there was an update...and it ran....since it problem was massive packet loss on incomming traffic..it took about 2 hours for the program to update...but that's not my problem...and the routing issue somewhere in the network was resolved.
But, anyway, I noticed afterwards occasionally I'd get a pop-up becuase something is trying to open cmdvbs.vbs. I ignored it since no AV or malware alerts came up. But it kept popping up, over and over again. So I decided to load the thing in notepad just to see what I was dealing with...that's when I discovered the At-Home agent was the culprit....and here are the contents of the script:
    Set WshShell = CreateObject("WScript.Shell")
    WshShell.Run chr(34) & "C:\Program Files (x86)\Verizon\IHA_MessageCenter\bin\Restart.bat" & Chr(34), 0
    Set WshShell = Nothing
So, at least I know Windows 7 isn't infected with something. But it brings up the question of is this the only way it can restart the program? Does it really need to be restarted and what's getting screwed up since it's not.
I haven't done vbscript in ages...so I don't know why it's popping up on Win7 other than maybe a security setting is preventing it, becuase, really, vbscript can be nasty stuff.
I just  don't know if i'm thrilled about the program trying to reboot itself several times a day. If it wasn't somewhat handy when I needed it, I'd uninstall it.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hello,
I am running Vista.  I continue to receive the following pop up even though I have deleted IHA and all Verizon software from my PC:
    Set WshShell = CreateObject("WScript.Shell")
    WshShell.Run chr(34) & "C:\Program Files\Verizon\IHA_MessageCenter\bin\Restart.bat" & Chr(34), 0
    Set WshShell = Nothing
Thoughts on how to stop the notepad message from popping up several times a day?
    Thanks!

  • Does the DVR/STB have to be on the LAN for In-Home Agent to work?

I'm a brand new user and am trying to learn the the new features that Fios brings to the party.  When my install was done I asked that the wireless feature be disabled on the router (I have a good wired network for my PCs and they were all connected to the supplied router).  All of my services work (TV, Ph, Internet) but I just noticed that when I go to In-Home Agent, the only selectable option is that for Internet.  I have a sneaky suspicion that the DVR/STB are controlled over the network.
Can I connect the DVR to my wired network (Ethernet connection) and get the In-Home Agent functionality back?

Verizon boxes communicate with the LAN via MoCA.  This is done over the coaxial cable.  If you have guide information then that is working properly.  Youy don't need wireless and the RJ-45 on the back of the STB is not active, so "hooking up" to your wired network would do no good.

  • VZ In-Home Agent says I'm not connected to internet, but I am

I tried to setup Outlook 2007 to use my verizon.net email.  Anyway I couldn't get it to work manually.  So I downloaded VZ - In-Home Agent.  Everytime I use it, it checks everything (network, wireless, router), when it gets to the point where it tries to have the router connect to the internet, the Agent says it can not connect to the internet.  I am currently on the internet using that router.  I disabled all firewall, virus scans, etc and it keeps saying "You do not have an internet connection."
I select fix it and the agent runs
    "Fix my Fios Internet Connection"
It passes Browser health Check, wireless adapter, wired adapter, Checking Lan Connectivity,
Checking for internet connection of Fios Router. That fails and it tells me to reboot my OMT or something, it's the big FIOS box on my wall in the basement.  I reboot it and follow the instructions.  I then get this error:
A connection could not be established between your computer and the FIOS Router.  You can also try the following:
    1.Reboot your computer. (Did).
2.Check if you are able to connect to the internet using any other computers.  (I can and I can with this one too)
    Can someone help me?

Sounds like In Home Agent is bugging out.. I would ignore it and continue manually setting up + troubleshooting your Outlook 2007 account.
As you said, you're setting up your verizon.net email so the settings should be as follows:
incoming server: incoming.verizon.net (incoming.yahoo.verizon.net if you have the Yahoo portal partner)
    outgoing server: outgoing.verizon.net (outgoing.yahoo.verizon.net if you're Yahoo)
    Outgoing server requires authentication
    Username/pass for your Verizon account
    Ports are default (110 + 25) ..
Is this how your account is set up in Outlook? What errors are you receiving when you try to send/receive?

  • I can't get back to my home screen? Is the home button broke?

I can't get back to my home screen? Is the home button broke?

A simple press on the home button should always get you back to your 'app-menu'. If this is not the case there is a problem. It is possible that your button is broken. Maybe you could try first to install the latest iOS version through iTunes if you haven't done already. Or try to reset your iPhone by pressing the power button a few seconds and then Slide to Power off.
Let me know if it works!

  • In-Home Agent for Mac doesn't work - never has

I signed up for FIOS service several months ago and have never been able to get Verizon In-Home Agent to work. I can get as far as the level shown below, but when I select one of the grayed options, I get the spinning icon. (See it at lower left corner of the window.) That lasts for a few minutes, then nothing happens - it just goes back to the same window.
I even tried clicking the "Click here to provide your Feedback." I get the same icon (hard to see, but it's to the left of that link), then back to the same window.
    Running Mac OS X 10.6.8.
    Any ideas?

I just got FIOS in my all-Mac household. Nothing works for the Mac in FIOS. Not the FIOS t.v. widgets, In-Home Agent or anything else. Verizon is the most Mac unfriendly telecom company I've ever seen. Ironic if you think about what its products are.
All that will work on a Mac is that it will connect to the Internet. Period.
Verizon, would it really be too much cost or trouble to develop more Macintosh options?

  • In home agent

Should I uninstall In Home Agent to avoid getting this worm that it may carry in updates?  Is Verizon doing anything about this problem reported several times on this forum?

The in home agent is a safe software. Not that I find it particuarly useful, but it is safe to install. Most people never have an issue with it. Some were infected, but not by the IHA software. They got infected by another piece of spyware/virus that infected the IHA software. But there is no fear or concern in the IHA software itself. It carrys the same risk that any piece of software has. No more, no less.

  • In-home Agent doesn't install correctly

Tried this several times and no luck. Get an error that something in the installation process did not finish correctly. This is a Windows 8 computer.

The general advise here is to use the online troubleshooter: https://www22.verizon.com/foryourhome/vzrepair/vziha/requestrepair.aspx?CMP=DMC-CVZ_ZZ_ZZ_Z_ZZ_N_X22...
Many others have reported issues with the software and trying to get it to install under Win 8 for example: http://forums.verizon.com/t5/FiOS-Internet/Connectivity-issues-Windows-8-amp-In-Home-Agent/td-p/5618...
If you are having issues (such as connectivity) other than the software install I would recommend starting another thread, The experts here are very hard to stump (not that  I am one)
