  • GT72 2QE Dominator Pro powering down on boot

Hi, I'm having a problem with my new laptop. The scenarios are 2:
When using Intel VGA - Laptop will turn off on first boot but will load on 2nd attempt.
When using Nvidia 980M GTX - Following the switch from Windows to the dedicated VGA, the OS boots ok but once the system is powered off it will never boot again and laptop goes off.
I'm using the latest Nvidia and Intel drivers. This is getting frustrating. Any help will be much appreciated. Thanks!!

Thanks for the reply. I had already installed the latest version of BIOS i.e. E1781MS.10F with a fresh Windows 8.1 x64 but none solved the issue. I had a sleepless night to figure out what is wrong with this machine since I couldn't digest the fact that a 2400EUROS computer is faulty from factory. I bought this laptop from Poland last week and it was totally sealed in a giant package so surely I had to figure out what is wrong and I think I did. Just in case someone has my same experience please do the following:
     1) Re-Update BIOS with the latest version 10F.
     2) Re-Install Windows and install the WIFI and LAN driver from the MSI CD
     3) Perform only Important updates no optional (for now)
     3) DO NOT USE THE ONE CLICK INSTALL from the MSI CD
     4) Install the latest Nvidia VGA driver from http://www.nvidia.com
     5) Open the MSI Driver CD and start installing the devices one by one. Reboot between installations
     6) Once done with the drivers, install the applications. Same thing here, reboot between installations
     7) Download and install the latest Intel 4600 drivers from http://www.intel.com
I tried them all, only the above made it work. I have been testing the machine for the last 12hrs with no issues, well lets hope at least.
     Thanks!!!

VT-X is a basic feature and as I know most of MSI new laptop model has that setup item in BIOS and default is enable.

Only have one Samsung 850 EVO M.2 500GB in there currently with the stock Toshiba 128GB M.2.  I'll run another test when my second 850 EVO arrives to see what it's like with 3/4 slots filled.

  • MSI GT72 2QE screen and ram

    Hello,
I bought a MSI GT72 2QE-476NL. Some sites say its a IPS screen and some say its a TN..
Is there a way to check what screen i have?
Also i want to add a extra 8GB ram, but i cant find what type i have now, the 1 slot that is in use is not visible from the back..

the RAM is DDR3L 1.35v or less
other than that is just DDR3L the L means low voltage
the screens in almost every 17in MSI are TN based you do see some IPS at 15 and smaller
but not as much as other mfgs
i need to know how much ram you have then i can tell you how much you can add
    the GT72 2QD base has 4 sodimm DDR3L slots ratted for 1600mhz
the 12GB models have 4GB+8GB in the slots under the keyboard leaving both bottom slots open
the 16GB models have 8GB+8GB under the keyboard still leaving the slots under the keyboard open
the 24GB models have 4GB+8GB under the keyboard and 4GB+8GB in the bottom meaning all slots full
the 32GB models are full 8GB X 4 and this is max ram supported
as far as i know they are all running at 1600mhz effective DDR3 my 12GB model 2QD 406 has 9-9-9-20 timings at 1600mhz 1.35v without your full model number or the first 8 char and number from the Serial number i can't say much more

  • Early 2011 13" i5 MacBook Pro - RAM Upgrade

I am thinking of upgrading my MacBook pro 4GB to 8GB I don't think I really need the extra RAM right at this point however I would like to just go ahead and do it to get it out of the way since next year I will be using the machine primarily for Adobe Photoshop CS5 and from what I hear that program is a memory hog? Also will be doing mild photo/video editing. I know a lot of people have done there RAM upgrades via crucial and I actually used them before to upgrade my old 2010 MBP, however when I went to there site today to order it says there are no compatible matches for my machine. Can anyone guide me in the right direction for a 8GB ram upgrade for my 13" i5 MBP. Thanks CJ

The actual capacity for the memory slots are 16GB.
If you decide to continue photo editing and video editing, i would recommend 16GB. Unfortunately it is quite a bit more expensive
If you do purchase 8GB, make sure that it is this type: 2x4GB - 204-pin PC-10600 (1333 MHz) DDR3 SO-DIM
I believe Crucial offer a warranty for their memory, so if there are any problems, contact them and they should resolve any issues!

  • Do apple provide mac book pro RAM upgrades?

It currently has 2gb of ram and I would like to give it 4gb or more. I got this mac in late 2008

Yes, Apple sells RAM upgrades -- for two to three times as much as anyone else does. Upgrading the RAM in your machine is a snap, and instructions are in your MBP user guide. Buy the RAM online and install it yourself. Here's one good place to buy, and a link to the right RAM for a late-2008 unibody MBP:

  • Early 2008 MacBook Pro RAM upgrade limited to 3GB??

My brother in law has an early 2008 MBP, 2.4GHz, I'm pretty much sure we are talking about the one described in this Apple tech specs:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/SP4
Now, it says that it supports up to 4GB of 667MHz DDR2 SDRAM. He bought 2x2GB Kingston memory modules , but the shop sold him the 800Mhz ones. Still they do fit and if only one is present together with the old 1GB 667MHz one it works fine reporting a total of 3GB. With the 2x2GB together the MBP doesn't even start.
My understanding was that such a MBP could support up to 8GB of RAM with the new 4GB memory modules (well probably with SL at 64 bits, which works). Personally I have an early 2007 MacBook and I know there is a 3GB limit due to the GMA 950 (video chip) reserving higher addresses.
Is there a similar situation for the MBP? I thought the memory speed being higher shouldn't matter (and it works indeed with one 800MHz module). Or is that MBP really limited to 3GB maximum? Any idea?
    Message was edited by: Michelasso

yes, he will bring everything here today. I think he didn't buy the KTA MB800 anyway (made for Apple by kingston). Just generic. They are too cheap. But I have to check. Reading around I've found out that only the Penryn MBP should have the problem with faster RAM. Here is a good guide:
    http://forums.macnn.com/69/mac-notebooks/358184/a-guide-to-macbook-ram-upgrades/
Well, he's still on time to give the RAM back and get the refund. Thanks for your help anyway.

  • Macbook Pro RAM Upgrade Questions

I'm looking at getting a 13" Pro, 2.8Ghz, 750GB Hardrive and 4GB RAM. I'm just doing my research in regards to upgrading RAM and I have a few quick questions.
What is the Largest amount of RAM that a Pro will support?
    What type do I need?
    Is it easy to do?
    Thanks in advance!

Yep.  It sure is.  Got confused as to what you were asking for .  Crucial and OWC (macsales.com) are excellent vendors for RAM.  The newest MacBook Pros can hold up to 16gb of RAM (2 slots with one 8gb module in each).  16gb is overkill for the average user.  8gb of ram is very affordable now at about $50 USD.

  • Mavericks, Early 2008 Macbook Pro, RAM Upgrade

    Hello,
I just upgraded to Mavericks on my early 2008 Macbook Pro. I originally had Snow Leopard on it and it seemed much faster before Mavericks. I currently have 2GB of ram on this machine... would upgrading to 4 GB be that much helpful? Would my machine only recognize 3 GB? And last but not least, if it would only recognize 3 GB would it be ok to install 1 GB in the first slot and 2 GB in the second? I have heard machines perform better if they have the same about of RAM in each slot.
Or should I just revert back to snow leopard??
    Thank you for you time!
    Matthew

I thought early 2008 Macbook Pros could only recognize 3gb total for ram? Is that not true?
That's an earlier model. I have the same model (early 2008) and have 4GB recognized. MacTracker says it can handle 6GB.

Upgrade? K5000M has less shaders, slower clock and is probably 30% slower on games. Do you need a Quadro for professional work?
Well if its easy enough, I can swap back and forth.
But I use laptop for rendering 90% of the time, and titanfall and borderlands 2 are probably my most played games. But I do have dual gtx 770's in my desktop so heavon forbid id have to use them if I want to play. But yes, I do use more professional programs than I do gaming.

↑ On PCmark 8 HOME for some common home computing test: 4653
↑ On PCmark 8 CREATIVE for experts and proffesionals: 5445
↑ On PCmark 8 WORK for some simple office productivity test: 4401
↑ On PCmark 8 STORAGE to test SSD & HDD: 5017, and getting a average 330 MB/s Storage bandwidth.
At last, we'll be doing CPU heat test:
↑ Before we run the test, the cores temperature is around 40 degrees, and 33 degrees on hard disk.
↑ After we had run for a 30 minutes maxed performance test, with full fans on, we're getting 75 - 80 degrees on CPU cores and unbelievable still 33 degrees on hard disk.
To be honest, after tried on GT72 Dominator PRO, I just can't live without it anymore.
The BattleField 4 running smoothly with photoshop on background, I can finally play some video games while taking a break on my photo editing and graphic design works, in the coffee shop of course.
Although it looks pretty heavy, but it's actually much portable than I thought, in facts it's phenomenal thin for such a powerful performance beast.
Carry around with the backpack it provided isn't a difficult task at all.
Besides, one last thing to show:
↑ Sexiest design that let the heats never became an issue anymore.

yeah.... with so much different angle and good quality, they are truly good photo shooting pieces!

I want to upgrade this with an SSD disk. I bought Plextor PCIe M.2 2280 SSD (model: PX-G256M6e).
I have tried follow your guide:
The problem is that the computer never find or recognizes the ssd disk. This only makes me format the already installed harddrive.
What is the problem? I have tried updating my Intel rapid technology. I have tried booting in legacy. I have tried switching the ssd to ssd2 port in the m2 sata rack.
Have i bought the wrong m.2 sata disk? Why does the computer not recognize the m.2 sata disk, it fits correctly in the m.2. sata rack.
Is "PCIe" compatible with M.2 SATA interface?? I dont know what this Means..

Welcome to the club! I bought the wrong drive too! - Although I did so after phoning MSI and asking them if the drive was okay... they said yes, it wasn't. LoL.
