RE:  Hooking up my flat screen to my imac that was released in April of 08

Can I hook up my iMAC (released in april of 08) to my flat screen and then use the imac to get movies, etc. from netflix?

You will need to connect both the Mini-DVI port connector AND the Audio in/optical digital audio
in port to your TV. The type of video cables you will need depends on the connection you want on your TV. If you use a HDMI connection on your TV then you will need a Mini-DVI to HDMI connector, if you use DVI then Mini-DVI to DVI connector. The audio cable will be one like this sample from Amazon.

    Hello redheadjennieo,
I'm not sure Apple is going to write drivers for a Windows Operating System, so we may have to rely on the generic drivers.
What model pavilion do you have?
    What operating system?
Does the monitor say anything on the screen when it's connected to the computer and you turn it? (e.g. signal out of range, no input, etc)

What To Do If Your iDevice Is Lost Or Stolen
If you activated Find My Phone before it was lost or stolen, you can track it only if Wi-Fi is enabled on the device. What you cannot do is track your device using a serial number or other identifying number. You cannot expect Apple or anyone else to find your device for you. You cannot recover your loss unless you insure your device for such loss. It is not covered by your warranty.
If your iPhone, iPod, iPod Touch, or iPad is lost or stolen what do you do? There are things you should have done in advance - before you lost it or it was stolen - and some things to do after the fact. Here are some suggestions:

  • Hooking G5 to flat screen

how do i hook my G5 to my flat screen tv?
will i get a very good picture with that hook up and what might i be able to watch?
    any advice would be appreciated!

I would stay away from the dvi to hdmi cables....I've had bad experience with them. Just get a dvi to hdmi adapter and run an HDMI cable from your powermac to tv.
Monster makes a great one, but if you're looking for a cost-efficient one, then go here:
    http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?cid=104&cp_id=10419&cs_id=1041902&pid=2029&seq=1&format=2
The website is Monoprice.com...seriously is one of the best web-sites ever! Very cheap and the products are very, very nice quality! You can get an HDMI cable from there too for under $10!
    Hope that helps! Take care!

  • Black screen after unlocking PC that was previously Remote Desktop-ped to

I'm running Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard, Service Pack 1.
Often I need to work from home, in which case I jump onto a VPN via Citrix client and remote desktop to my work PC. Subsequently, when I come to work in the morning and attempt to unlock my PC, from time to time after entering my login credentials and pressing
'Enter' I get presented with two blank/black screens instead of my desktop. I tried being patient, moving my mouse a bit etc but to no avail. I notice that the keyboard is still functional (CAPS LOCK light goes on/off), and there appears to be some hard drive
activity. However I end up needing to reboot the PC (and lose whatever unsaved work I had).
I've done some googling, attempted most of the suggested solutions (involving changing some registry settings, updating video card drivers etc) but to no avail.
My video card is NVIDIA Quadro NVS 295, driver date 24/01/2014. I do have dual monitors configured (lenovo).
Any tips/suggestions would be much appreciated,
    Greg

    Hi Greg,
Thank you for posting in Windows Server Forum.
You can try the sfc  /scannow command to scans the integrity of all protected system files and repairs files with problems when possible. For more details, please refer to the following article.

  • I am trying to get my Dad's computer to turn on.  It's a 17" IMac that was bought around 2007.  Today it just won't turn on.  When u hold the power button down, the white light comes on in the lower right hand of the computer but screen stays dark.

It have tried pulling cord out if the computer and then plugging it back ...it still won't turn on.   Pls help...next step

Try using the resetting SMC procedure
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
You may have done something similar already, but do it precisely as described.  You should disconnect ALL peripheral devices, except for Apple keyboard and mouse.
Also, when you plug it back in, if the iMac is currently plugged into an old (or overcrowded) power strip (surge suppressor), try connecting it directly to a wall outlet by itself.

  • Convert bad capacitor g5 imac to full functional flat screen TV?

Have anyone with worthless g5 Imac due to leaky capacitor tried to removed the system board and convert it to flat screen tv type? That would be cool looking flat screen tv!

Why don't you get it fixed through Apple's Return Exchange programs:
    http://www.apple.com/support/imac/repairextensionprogram/
    http://www.apple.com/support/imac/powersupply/repairextension/
They are two different programs for two different series of iMac G5s.
And then you can use one of http://www.elgato.com/ 's tuners to see TV on your Mac.

  • Need input - Seeking an inexpensive flat screen

I was wondering if anyone could recommend a good flat screen they have used that is not too expensive which will work well with my G4 MDD. I am not a power user, but I do make videos and would love to have a little bigger screen than my 17" tube model I have now. However, I am a tight cheeks and don't want to spend a ton of money for an Apple display. Any suggestions?

Almost any of the LCD monitors will work with your MDD G4. Samsung is a particularly good brand, though sometimes a bit more expensive than the lesser named brands. BTW, as far as monitor picture quality, contrast ratio is the single most important spec. CCD is second. Almost all LCDs are now at least 8 ms response time, so that spec is no longer very important.
Your 17" CRT monitor only measures 16", while a 17" LCD monitor measures 17". So you will have a slightly larger monitor if you just replace it in kind substituting an LCD for a CRT. A 19" widescreen LCD monitor will give you more space overall, but its height is only about the height of your 17" CRT. A 19" full screen LCD monitor is a good way to go for a big jump in screen area, without having to pay premium prices.
    I hope that helps.

  • Screen share an iMac 10.3.9 using a MacBook 10.6,8

I have a MacBook that is running 10.6.8.  I want to share the screen of my  iMac that is running 10.3.9.  How so I accomplish this? Currently I am able to access all the files on the iMac from the MacBook but what I really need to see is the actual desktop of the iMac so I can help my family members.  I only need this to happen on my home network.  Thanks for any advice/ help you provide.

You don't need an app to move files between any number of computers of any type. I move/duplicate files from Mac to PC to Mac to Mac to PC.
Yes some type of Sync program helps but it is not needed. It's just a bit more work without a Sync program.
Of course you need to network them or use an external drive.

  • I just bought a recertified Mac Mini, and I wonder if anyone here knows if it's possible to hook up my Mac flat screen LCD monitor to it using what adapters? I currently have a DVI to ADC adapter connected to my G4 Powermac.

I just bought a recertified Mac Mini core duo - it's not the newer model-, and I wonder if anyone here knows if it's possible to hook up my Mac flat screen LCD monitor to it  and using what adapters? I currently have a DVI to ADC adapter connected to my G4 Powermac.
The company I bought it from is not Apple, and I may regret that. It was in my price range, though.
This is the first time I've used this community, and I've been a Mac owner since 2000. Thanks in advance!

  • Hooking up Flat screen tv to Macbook pro with a broken monitor via VGA

My monitor on my Macbook Pro recently went out. I am trying to hook it up to my Toshiba flat screen TV via DVI to VGA. When everything is hooked up, my TV just displays a screen saying "No Video Signal". I think this has to do with my display setting not being set to Detect Monitors on my Macbook. I also know there is a hot key (fn + f7) buuuuuuuuut, my laptop is password protected. So I think this may be causing the hot key to not work. My Mac is pretty old and I'd rather just hook it up to a spare monitor and use it as a desktop, and just save up and get a newer Macbook. Does anyone have any advice on how to get around this little problem I have seemed to run into?
By the way I am guessing at my operating system. I customer built my laptop back in 2007 so i'm not sure what I have in there haha. I do know I have a **** ton of ram

    lyndziiwh0a
Seeing this is rather old give this a try, it can't hurt.
Connect the DVI to the VGA, both devices powered off.
Power up the Mac, then power up the monitor, wait a couple minutes.
If no results, go to system preferences, select display, and click detect displays.
    You can also try F3.
    Good luck

  • Urgent - iMac G4 Flat Panel - Is Adding Monitor or Flat Screen TV Possible?

    Hello,
As a present to my husband (mac guru) I would like to know if with his iMac Flat Panel G4, is it better to buy a 28 inch samsung computer monitor (flat panel) that he can also hook up his mac to or a kind of flat screen/panel LCD TV. The guys at futureshop and bestbuy seem to be "confused" when talking about macs and not pcs. With the computer monitor, there seems to be questions on if we'll be able to hook up our satellite tv... and with the tvs, there seems to be confusion on if we can hook up the computer. One of the reasons I want to hook the computer directly is my husband has had problems converting (burning to DVD) some videos with music background from iPhoto without doing a software update which requires us to change the timing with the audio and video in our already created slideshows. Please help quickly as some sales finish tomorrow. I need to know what to tell the store... i.e. what kind of jack or cables or capability I am looking for. Do I ask for USB port, coaxil input or what? Thanks in advance,
    Karen

Yes you can connect a display or monitor but exactly which ones depends on which iMac G4 you have.
All iMac G4s have a Mini VGA port this will allow you to connect any standard PC Monitor (with a VGA connector) and mirror the iMac's internal display only. The later iMac G4's also allow the connection of S-Video and Composite Video devices (most TV's have this type of input) which allows you to mirror the display on to the TV.
The MiniVGA to VGA and Mini VGA to S-Video/Composite adaptors are for sale online in the Apple Store ($19US/£15) or here.
If you wanted to extend the screen size again it is possible on some iMacs but requires a firmware hack that will invalidate your warranty.
I can't understand how having an external display will solve the burning to DVD issues though.....
Post back with your Screen size and processor speed for exact info - or read this recent post

  • Problems with volume when streaming a Netflix movie from my Mac Book Pro (Mid 2009) to my flat screen TV?

    Hi!
Does anyone know what I need to do in order to turn up the volume when I’m streaming a Netflix movie from my Mac Book Pro (Mid 2009) to my flat screen TV?
I hooked up the HDMI adapter from my Mac to my TV and it is currently in Mirror Mode, but I can’t turn up the volume, the only audio I’m able to adjust is on my Mac.
I’ve already tried: System Preference > Sound > Output > Internal Speakers Built in output.  That’s the only option my Mac gives me.
    Any suggestions?

    Hello jguti,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
I understand that your external display connected via HDMI is not being detected by the computer.  At this point, the best bet for your next troubleshooting step would be to reset the system:
    Reset the system
You can reset the Mac's parameter RAM and SMC.
    Reset the resolution
Start by resetting the Mac's parameter RAM. If the display does not come up, was previously set to an unsupported resolution, and still results in no video:
    Start up in Safe Mode.
From the Apple () menu, choose System Preferences.
Choose Displays from the View menu to open the preferences pane.
Select any resolution and refresh rate that your display supports.
    Restart your computer.

  • Apple Digital AV Adapter - DVI port on Dell flat screen?

What do I need to connect my iPad 2 to my Dell 24" flat screen monitor?  I have the Apple Digital AV Adapter and use it for my HDTV.
Can it somehow be adapted for the Dell monitor?

Chances are the Dell monitor is the way you described since it's a few years old.  After writing this yesterday, I hooked up the iPad 2 to my HDTV and was blown away! If I have to be "tethered" to something, it's much better that it's the HDTV. (Infinity Blade, Angry Birds, Fishdom H2O and Astraware Casino) - I was up late into the night with these.
Thank you for the fast answer!

    Hi Robin,
    since the iMacs don't have a video-in port (only a video-out port) a 'wire' won't work.
