Re: How long to repair before I can cancel?

I reported a fault firstly on one of my landlines on the 4th August. I returned home from holiday then to find my Alarm was faulting and there was no signal on the phone whatsoever. I phoned to report the fault and they said it would take 4 days to repair - but nothing happened. So I cancelled the phone line which was meant then to remain for thirty days with a messgae to re-direct to my other line. Guess what - they cut it off immediately ! How helpful, I've had that number for over 15 years and now I have to seek out everyone to let them know. So thats that phone line gone. Now my second phone line started getting noisy after this - very noisy and with crossed lines and strange behaviour (kept say numbers we called were unavilable) So be the 24th August I report a fault on this line too. Now, as I work from home this line is critical to me. It also has the broad band on it. So I have had no communication back to me from BT - even though I have provided my mobile and e-mail address. I received a bill this week - it had £10.90 call which was apparently 'operator assisted'. I called to have this removed.  I have called back to the fault department 3 times to ask for assistance and updating but only get 'we completely understand (but we are not trained engineers and we are not going to do anything about it - is what they say) . I am currently waiting for a manager or engineer to call me - which they promised to do - but I am sure they won't. I have been with BT for 30 years, worked there 17 years and been loyal to the company, but it is time to change as they very obviously do not care about their customers. A repair time of any longer than 2 or 3 days is just not acceptable. All of this for me started when the could not install BT infinity properly either and I waited for 6 vweeks until someone did some fiddling with the pairs in the local cable box. I will now need to change my supplier (with all the heartache of 20 years of e-mails in all the families names) and write letters to the chairmans off once again as it seems to be impossible to talk to anyone in BT who is capable, trained or able to do anything about a reported problem.

Hi russelllangley
I am really sorry you have had trouble getting this fault fixed.  I'll be happy to have a closer look and make sure we get it sorted out.

  • How long to repair permissions

Got the grey screen...trying to fix with repair permissions...any idea how long it might take to run the repair....I have a 250G drive with about 120G of it used. I am asking just so I know if at some point I should give up....or just leave it for a while while it does its work.

There is no hard and fast time for repairing permissions - I have a PB running 10.5.2 and it takes almost 45 minutes, but on my intel aluminum iMac also running 10.5.2, it takes 3 minutes.
I generally get impatient when a process stalls as I track it in Activity Monitor and it doesn't do anything for several minutes. An Archive and Install can take as lttle as half-an-hour or the two hours it took you. I'm sorry there's no real answer tyo give you, but machines are variable and so are times.

  • How long to repair an Iphone 5 ?

    Hello,
I live in France and for a battery issue, I called AppleCare to repair my Iphone 5. (The 24th December and UPS took my Iphone at the 26)
But, they did not tell me how long will last the repair (included the time to arrive and to return of the repair center).
So, someone can tell me how long because I will need my phone the next week.
    Thank's for your answers.
NB: Sorry for the mistakes in syntax.

Try calling Apple again, but I wouldn't count on seeing your phone next week.
I sent a message to Apple, thinking i was going to chat with a Apple tech. I needed to purchase additional coverage to speak to them about their product that i bought from them.
...they sent me here!  Not that this is a bad place though.
    Good luck

300Mb (Mega bits) is about 32MB (Mega Bytes)

  • How long does Repair Disk take?

When starting up my iMac - only bought 3 weeks ago, I open Safari and my screen gets a black screen over it and say "You need to restart your computer. Hold down..." after 3 times of doing this I rung apple and went through some steps with technical help. I'm now waiting for Disk Utility to repair my disk - it's been over an hour. How long should this take?

An hour seems too long to me. That screen effect and message sound like a kernel panic. Such freezes are generally attributed to hardware but not always.
If the machine is only three weeks old and you are getting kernel panics, I'd make a booking for the shop to check it out.

  • How long to wait before watching movie download on apple tv?

Just purchased a tv season, then tried to play the pilot episode. It stopped 2 minuted in... Just froze. Eventually it returned To the apple scrolling pictures.
So I then proceeded back to the episode, pressed start at the beginning (instead of resuming) worked great... Until about 5 minutes in. Freeze Again!
So... How long should I need to wait to start playing the video so that it WON'T freeze?

If it isn't in the Rentals category in the Movie menu, check the purchases history in your iTunes account and see if it's there. If it isn't, you might try one more time and see if it works.
If not, you might want to contact iTunes store support. I had a problem a few months ago with my purchases not completing because of database corruption in the iTunes store that was affecting my account.

  • How long to repair?

    Hi,
My MBP Pro C2D was sent in on the 7th of this month for repair (most likely a screen swap). The status page still reads "Repair in progress." It has been two weeks. Is this normal? How much longer should I wait before calling them? Thanks.

I called them, and apparently the engineering department has been trying to get a hold of me at an old number of mine. The rep said they probably are going to ask my permisison to send out a new unit (they would like to keep mine). Hopefully they can get in touch with me now that they have my current number and we can get this resolved.

  • When doing a full battery discharge, how long to wait before recharge?

I use my 17" MBP as a desktop computer. Never need to travel anywhere with it, and never need to use it on battery. But I know that to maintain the health of the battery, it needs to be used. So I'd like to know the following:
    1. Apple tech support informed me that when I fully discharge the battery, I should keep it in that fully discharged state for six hours before recharging it. This is quite inconvenient, as it requires careful planning to ensure one won't need the computer for six hours when the battery runs out. Which causes me to do full discharges less frequently than perhaps I should. Does one really need to wait six hours to get the benefit of the discharge? Or can one plug the power adapter in immediately when the discharge is complete, so as to be able to keep using the computer?
    2. Some Apple staff say one should ALWAYS use the computer on battery. And only use the power adapter as a battery charger-- i.e. don't use the power adapter routinely to power the computer. Only plug in the adapter when you need to charge the battery. Is this true?

    Thanks to both of you.
@eww: Yes, there was another question in my mind which both you as well as the thread you referenced, address: the need to use the battery frequently but lightly. This is a new concept for me, and I did not get guided at all in this direction by the tech support staff at apple. So reading the info you've given and referenced, it sounds like the best usage is frequent, partial use of battery. And recharging each time, before it is fully discharged. With full discharge and recalibration only once every 2-3 months.
Two different tech support people at Apple told me that whenever I do use the battery, I should use it all the way down. Do not do partial usage. And it was one of the tech support staff in the Apple Store in Annapolis MD, who told me that I should ALWAYS use the battery. There was no misunderstanding; I spoke to him for about regarding related points on battery usage. And if you ask the tech support staff how often calibration should be done, you'll get different answers every time. One told me every week, another told me every month, another said he wasn't certain what the best schedule was.
If you still have access to free tech support, do an experiment-- call the tech support line 4 or 5 times, and ask the same question each time: optimal strategies for battery maintenance, for someone using a MBP as a desktop. I did this 5-6 times in attempt to find out the best approach, and got different answers every time. And NONE of the staff gave type or detail of information which was provided in the reference you gave.
So thank you very much for your help. You have made the matter really clear!

  • Alert Resolution Time - Get statistics on how long it takes before a specific alert is closed

    Hi,
Is there a report or a script that can give me the time it takes before a specified  alert(s) is created untill it is closed in scom 2012 r2?
What I would call resolution time.
Would be very handy for benchmarking our Event Management. I've got the Veeam Extended Library Reports, but I can not find a solution there.
    Thanks in advance, Best Regards

    Hi,
We need to use SQL query to get the time when the alert created, and the time when the alert closed from database.
With in the database, the below table store all information for alert:
    [OperationsManager]
    .[dbo].[Alert]
The table includes Timeraised and Timeresolved for alerts.
    Please try Roger's suggestion.

  • How many repeat repairs before Apple admits they cannot repair problem?

I have brought in my 15" Powerbook G4 FW800 for a 4th time today to the Apple Store to try and resolve an intermittant problem with the machine not waking from sleep properly. Upon waking from sleep, the screen sometimes doesn't return. The caps lock key lights, but no joy trying to get any display. In addition, when I try to reboot the machine when this happens, I often have to go through two cycles of trying to power up before it will successfully boot. If the screen does come back after waking from sleep, sometimes it will freeze within a minute or two (no kernel panic, just complete freeze).
As I said this is an intermittant problem and I have tried desperately to find some sort of pattern to help them fix the problem but I haven't been able to.
Attempts to resolve the problem include:
    - LCD screen replaced as part of the "white spot" acknowledged issue
    - replaced the memory twice. Reseated memory multiple times in different slots. Re-installed original Apple memory. Ran multiple memory tests which resulted in no errors.
    - Bluetooth module replaced (stopped being recognized at some point and Genius said it could be related (it wasn't)
    - Hard drive replaced
    - Logic board replaced
    - System re-installed twice, once as an archive install, then as a full clean install
So this is the 4th time I have brought the machine in to try and fix the problem. My question is at what point will Apple just say, they don't know how to fix the problem? Will they replace my machine? Or am I doomed to keep bringing the machine in every few weeks?

after the 3rd time of not being able to fix a problem, they should send you a new unit. for me, a year and a half ago, my powerbook sat with them for 3 weeks and they couldn't get any logic boards in. so they replaced my 667 mhz tibook with a 1.5 ghz aluminum powerbook

  • How to find out when I can cancel

I have searched the BT site and followed links that haven't worked trying to find out when my contract is up for renewal.
I would like to cancel as my broadband is always dropping, I never use the telephone as I have mobile and the BT vision has never really worked properly (probably due to broadband signal - who knows!!)
I can't really afford it each month either
I just want to know when my contract ends as I don't want to incur too high a charge. I don't wish to ring BT as I don't want someone trying to talk me into a new package (plus it costs a fortune to ring from my mobile).

    Hi filbberty,
If you are willing to give us one more shot I'll be happy to have a look into your connection difficulties and get the broadband running better so you can use your Vision as well.
Could you drop me in an email please with your BT account and telephone number along with a link back to this thread.
Just send using the contact us form in my profile under the 'about me' section and mark FAO Craig please.

  • How long can record on cFP 2200 -128MB

We want to use Real-time controller which cFP-2200 128 MB DRAM but we dont know how we can calculate time of record of controller if we connect to controller a cFP TC 120 16 bit thermocouple input module, cFP AI 100 12 bit analog input module and cFP CTR 502 counter input module.
    thanks a lot

    Hello,
It can be difficult to say exactly how many seconds or minutes you can log data
on a cFP controller because it really is possible to set up the controller to
continuously log data for an "infinite" amount of time (or at least
until there is an error, power failure, or something else that would interrupt
the functionality of the controller).  The issue is that there is only
128MB of space on your controller so you need to make sure that you are
transferring the data quickly enough before the memory on the board fills up
because that will also stop recording.  Knowing how long you have before
the memory on the controller becomes full if you are not transferring the data
to another machine  completely depends on how much and the type of data
that you are logging.  My recommendation to you if you have a time constraint
of how long you need to run your logging would be to transfer the data off from
the cFP to make room for more data logging.  Here is a knowledgebase article that
will explain the different communication methods that you can use to transfer
data.  Also here is another link that shows how to FTP
files to and from a Real-Time Controller.  I hope this helps!
