Re: How to fix keyboard keys on Satellite L40?

Hi,
I'm wondering if you can help me...my boyfriends cat laid on my keyboard, the key 'b' jammed and fell off. I have a Satellite L40 series. I have the blue and black hinge and the 'b' key. I require my laptop for various assignments. Please help me!!Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Hi
Its tricky to fix this if the plastic hinge is broken.
Not sure if you will be able to replace only the hinge but I found a nice movie on youtube which shows a replacement of such hinges.

However, in worst case you will need to replace the keyboard.

  • Some keyboard keys of Satellite A660-11M don't work

    hi,
the keyboard of my Satellite A660-11M is not working properly. Some keys won't type, others would type the wrong letter/number.
Does replacing the keyboard usually fix the problem? Are keyboards available for this model?
By the way, juice was accidentally spilled on it weeks ago, so i assume it's the cause of the problem.
    thanks in advance.

    Hi
Yes, possibly the issue is related to the spilled juice.
I think only the keyboard replacement could help you
The new keyboard can be ordered from a Toshiba ASP in your country.
Here you can find all ASP worldwide:

  • C#: How to convert Keyboard.key (Unicode char as number) into correct char?

    Our application uses barcode scanner.
when scanning a barcode and convert Keyboard.key (as ushort with value 16, it represents char ':') by using
    1)(char)(Keyboard.key)
    2) or Convert.ToChar(Keyboard.key),
both way convert into symbol '+'.
    How to convert into ':'?
What is a correct way to convert Keyboard.key as ushort into correct char? Thx!
    JaneC

    Hi Dan Nemec,
It is normal '+'. It is special '+' symbol.
We search a little bit and find out Unicode ':' is 3A and value is not 16.
So during the process barcode scanner, the value has been changed in some way.
We are trying to find out where the value has been changed.

  • Portege R700 - how to clean keyboard keys?

    Hi
I have a Toshiba Portege R700 - and I have spilt some coke onto a small section of the keyboard.
Unsurprisingly, two or three keys are now "sticky".
Is this as simple as getting access to the keyboard and cleaning the relevant keys?
Or is it not as simple as that?
If I can do this, is there a pictorial guide on how to access the keyboard?
I am loathe to open it without a look at the tech manual first.
    Thanks

    Hello
In my opinion you will not be able to clean it properly. Coke is full of sugar. It can be complicated but you can try it.
In worst case you must exchange he keyboard.
So what you must do is to remove key cap for each critical button. It is fixed with small plastic holders. Just take something like credit card but more stabile, put under the key cap and try to remove it. Under the key cap is small key mechanism. Try to clean it up with wet cloth. Be very careful and clean it without much pressure.
When you think it is OK place the key cap in the place and press it down, very gently of course.
You will hear click noise and the key cp should be in place again.
I hope you will be able to get it work again.
    Please post some feedback.

  • How to fix keyboard flex on envy laptops

I own two laptops all from hp and I bought them at the same time. The HP ENVY 15-j051nr and the HP ENVY 17-j029nr all with amazing specs and performance.<br><br>But my main issue that bothers me seriously is the keyboard flex. The keyboard of both laptops flex so badly it's extremely annoying.considering the price these laptops go for, it makes you feel like they're just utterly cheap and of low quality meanwhile they're not.<br><br>QUESTION::<br>Is there anyway to fix the keyboard flex?<br><br>I can handle any opening up and tightening some screws or any fix that would require me to open the laptop up.<br><br>Generally all answers relating to help fix the issue of keyboard flex is welcome.

It is normal. I was provided an Envy 17-j029nr as a "loaner/tester" by HP to facilitate my participation in this Forum. My ONLY complaint is keyboard flex and nonresponsiveness. It will not recognize double letters. If I try to type "letters" it always comes out "leters" unless I slow down and punch the "t" twice very distinctly and slowly. I am thinking about trying to remove the keyboard and possibly stick a piece of thin rigid steel plate under the keyboard to hold it up but the keyboard is an island key type and not easy to get to and I cannot disassemble it too much.

  • E71: how to remap keyboard keys

    Hi!
I was wondering whether there is a way to remap the keys on the qwerty keyboard on E71. I basically want a different layout. Is there any system utility I could use, buy, etc.?
The reason I want this is because a standard native Russian keyboard ("jetsukeng" as it is called) is something I am not used to. I prefer a phonetic keyboard sometimes called "yawerty", so I'd like to use it on E71.
    Thanks in advance,

Maybe something like Magic Key? http://bit.ly/grQHq
My experience with Magic Key has been pretty good, on my E71, although I'm not remapping a whole lot of keys. I remap a few keys, so they function differently, depending on which application is active.

  • How to fix keyboard lag iOS8

    Terrible keyboard lag on IOS8.
Any suggestions on how to remedy?

    Hello, good_nature.
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
Try forcing all applications to close and restart the device.  Once this is done test the keyboard functionality.

I am experiencing keyboard lag time since update  iOS 7.1. I have: turned off  iCloud data and documents, reset under general all settings and restored to the iPad. Nothing is helping!!!!

  • How to fix keyboard lag in Messages

    Phone: iPhone 4 16G

Whenever I type a text message or iMessage I notice that there is considerable lag.  The letters show up seconds after I select them.  I don't know if this is a memory issue?  I have 6.5Gb available space on my iPhone.  Is there any way that this can be fixed?

Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button together for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.

    > Booting from the Win XP CD does not work, regrettably. Something with the SATA driver. Looks like a play to force end users to buy Vista.
    BIG NONSESE!!!!
You need SATA drivers before you would continue with XP installation!
I think you should read some threads here before making some assumptions
On the Toshiba page you will find a Intel Storage Manager
This package includes the SATA drivers!

Three keys of my keyboard are not working, the cap one, the return key and the space bar, while the virtual keyboard shows to others keys highlighted in orange (^ and `); How to fix it? I writing now with a bluetooth keyboard.

All new keyboards need Snow Leopard 10.6.8 and above for full functionality.
Rather short-sighted of Apple perhaps, but that seems to be a trend these days.
I'm afraid the only fix is to upgrade to SL. Personaly, I'd take it back and get a refund and seek an older keyboard or a third-party one elsewhere.

You may have this sorted out by now - but if not try resetting your Language to English.  I had the issue and found the emoji keyboard was set to spanish.
