Re: Hp Envy 15z-j000 usb question

Hello, how do I boot to the usb flash drive? I've tried to change the boot priority so many times with no luck! My usb flash drive has windows 7 image on it and I can't seem to get the installation screen whenever i restart my pc it just goes right into windows!.... What is the correct bios configuration to make this work? here is what i currently have cd rom boot disabled , internal network adapter boot enabled, legacy support enabled, secure boot disabled. What should the boot order be for it to properly boot from the usb flash drive anyone know?

I need help I just got a new Hp Envy 15z-j000 from ebay today I didn't like Windows 8 operating system so I downgraded to Windows 7 64 bit Operating system. Little did I know I would run into problems (yes I know this doesn't have a cd drive in it ) I thought I could put driver files on my usb flash drive to hopefully get everything working this laptop doesn't even recognize the usb flash drive probably because the drivers aren't installed! what a mess so now am i screwed I need the drivers and.... to somehow get this thing to work again?? PLEASE HELP!!

    Hi:
    See if these work...
First, you have to install the AMD chipset driver and reboot.
You want the first file listed on the webpage.
    http://support.amd.com/en-us/download/chipset?os=Windows 7 - 64
The graphics is the fun part.  You can first try running the Latest AMD Beta driver from the link below and maybe it will install the drivers  If not, then let me know and I will give you some other method to install it using that driver.

  • HP ENVY 15z-j100 usb ports not working

A couple of days ago the usb ports on the right side of the laptop stopt working correct.
They keep disconnecting devices and reconnecting them. After a while they stop working at all.
Have anyone else encounter the same problem?
I`ve been looking for a solution but nothing so far.

    Hi Grimweeper,
Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums and Welcome. I have read your thread on your HP ENVY 15z-j100 Notebook and USB not working correctly. Here is a link to troubleshoot USB connections.
I would uninstall everything listed in the Universal serial bus controllers list. Please note remove any and all USB devices, and remove memory cards from the card reader slot. Disconnect all non-essential devices before uninstalling Universal serial bus controllers. Restart your computer and then insert the USB device.
    Hope this helps.

  • Help with Downgrading to Windows 7 on HP Envy 15z-j000?

Hey guys, I've seen a lot of helpful posts on here about downgrading to Windows 7 on various notebooks, and I could use some help on mine. I'll keep it simple because I really need help! I obtained a Windows 7 Professional .iso and I have it on a USB Drive, already formatted and ready to boot. When I tried to install Windows on the laptop though, it says I'm missing the correct drivers. What are the drivers I need? Where can I find them? Where do I install them to? Any help is appreciated! Thanks a lot!

The very best way, and fastest method to install Windows 7 is by use of  the Microsoft store's Windows 7 USB\DVD download tool. Creating a Windows 7 installer with that method has always worked for me. I highly suggest that you download it and  use it.
After you have created the installer connect it to a usb port. Press the power button and immediately tap the Esc key to enter the startup menu. Choose F10 for BIOS.  In the BIOS, select the System Configuration tab, then Boot options to make sure that Legacy support is enabled and secure Boot is disabled. Change the boot order to ensure that USB diskette on key\USB hard disk is the first boot option and then save the changes. Your notebook should boot right into the Windows 7 installer on the usb flash drive.
Windows 7 has builtin  native SATA drivers and should not need any assistance from you in installing them .  Can you post the exact error message that you are seeing on screen? Only bother with doing that if you get the same message when using the usb installer created from the Microsoft store's Windows 7 USB\DVD download tool.

  • Envy 17t J000 - Maximum Hard Drive Size and speed

I going to place a 2nd hard drive in the open space in my Envy 17t-j000.
    The Maintenance and Service Guide states;
Hard drives Supports 6.35-cm (2.5-in) hard drives in 9.5-mm (.37-in) and 7.0-mm (.28-in) thicknesses (all hard drives use the same bracket)
    Customer-accessible
    Serial ATA
    Supports the following hard drives:
    ● 1-TB 5400-rpm, 9.5-mm
    ● 750-GB 5400-rpm 9.5-mm
    ● 500-GB 5400-rpm 9.5-mm and 7.0-mm
    Dual hard-drive configurations:
    ● 2TB: (1-TB 5400-rpm x 2)
    ● 1500GB: (750-GB 5400-rpm x 2)
This seems to mean that I cannot use a single 2 TB 2nd drive and cannot use a 7200 RPM drive.
Is this correct? Doesthe bios not allow a larger than a 1 TB drive or the 7200 RPM?
CouldI simply partition the 2nd drive into 2 - 1TB?
Or does the manual simply mean that the standard HP unit is not supplied with larger than these sizes and I could actually use a 2 TB in the 2nd bay?
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

It is the latter....the list just says what HP has to sell: it does not describe a system limitation. However, I do not believe the market yet offers a 2 TB drive that will fit in the space available. The 2 TB 2.5 inch SATA drives I have seen are too thick. 7200 rpm or hybrid or SSD; not a problem.
To add a second drive you will need a second hard drive caddy and cable.

  • ENVY 15t-j000 Quad Edition Hard Drive Thickness

I'm looking to replace the hard drive in my ENVY 15t-j000 Quad Edition with an SSD. HP's site currently does not list the thickness the the preinstalled hard drive. I would prefer to get an ssd that does not leave any extra unused space in the computer. What is the thickness of the hard drive installed in the ENVY 15t-j000 Quad Edition so I can upgrade to an equally sized ssd? Thank you.

    Hi,
It's very safe to use 7mm thick, as mentioned in my first reply.

  • Replace HDD with SSD for HP ENVY 15t-j000 Quad Edition Notebook PC

I'd like to buy a HP ENVY 15t-j000 Quad Edition Notebook PC and a HP v300a 120GB SATA Solid State Drive with Upgrade Kit.
Now the SSD has a 7mm thickness.
My question is if I can replace the HDD with this SSD? How thick is the HDD bay in the laptop.
If it's more than 7mm will the SSD move inside it?
    Thanks

    Hi,
The old HDD on your machine is a bit thicker but with at least 4 screws I don't think new SSD will floating around in the case. I actually put new SSD in one of my laptop (not HP) and no problem BUT I don't move this laptop around. If needed, blue tac may help.

  • Hp envy 15t j000 quad edition ssd upgrade: what to know

Hello everyone so im going to buy an hp envy 15t j000 quad edition for school and was looking online to see what i can upgrade on it to make it faster. Im not very knowledgable with computers so i need lots of help! While doing so i found out the hp comes with a hard disk drive (hdd) and that these are prone to damage over time and dropping, moving, ect. I learned that solid state drives (ssd) are prefered and can make the computer significantly faster and wont be as vunerable as the disk drive. Im upgrading the envy with the NVIDIA GeForce GT 740M Graphics with 2048MB of dedicated video memory, 15.6-inch diagonal Full HD BrightView LED-backlit Display (1920x1080), and the 12GB DDR3 System Memory (2 Dimm) option. Will any of this affect my swapping of the hdd? I also was wondering why the 8gb ddr3 system memory (2dimm) didn't affect the price for switching to the 12gb option. There isnt a difference right? also would the 24gb accelrated cache be of any use? For my last question i think i heard that i would need to clone or buy another copy of windows 8 to put on the new ssd. will there be any problems doing this? Am i in for a headache?

    Pepe999
I went on to Tom's Hardware to looking into the 16GB memory.. there is a recent report where adding 16 gb-ddr3 ram.. will increase the life of a SSD drive by 63% compared to 4gb.. here is the link.. thought it was interesting and supported my thinking in reducing the number of HD writes.
    http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/ssd-ram-endurance,3475.html
thought I'd share it with you.. what do you think..
Did you find the 1tb-SSD? try newegg.

How to quickly disable touchpad on HP ENVY 15t-j000?
I just got one of the newest Haswell notebook.  With older HP laptop touch pads there is a spot at the upper left corner to disable the touchpad.  With the latest Synaptic touchpad on the new ENVY 15t there is no keyboard or touchpad button to disable the touchpad when you are using a mouse.

    Hi
The touchpads on some new notebooks do not have an on/off button go to control panel The touchpad itself does not have a dot or hardware switch toturn on/off. However, you can turn this function on and off from the control panel.

    Hi Phoenix,
I think you might enjoy reading this article:
What is the Difference Between HDMI and DVI? Which is Better?
Below is a short article about each type of connection:  VGA, DVI, HDMI
Essentially, what you get, how much hassle you go through to understand and make a choice, is based on what you expect from the connection.  VGA is low-res, dependable, and has been around the longest of the three types.
Decide Between VGA, DVI, and HDMI for Your Monitor Connection
I have not had any problems with any monitor when trying to connect it to Windows 8 -- the underpinings to Windows 8 are built from Windows 7.  My experience:  If the Monitor will connect to one, it should work on the other.
Some issues I have had with monitor connections include:
Nvidia graphics on a Win7 machine that had to be down-reved to work with one monitor (circa 2010?)
Irritating issues with the screen aspect ratio on a monitor that is forced to be connected to a system with a different native resolution than that of the monitor -- Do-able, just ps-ant irritating
Switching from one system to another when the monitor is connected to two separate notebooks that are up and running at the same time -- the "switch" is more seemless on some monitors than with others
Note that none of these issues are "show stoppers" for my purposes:  I am not a gamer.
