Re: HPNetworkCommunicator.exe

On a new one-week-old Officejet Pro 8600 Plus,
I have had a very similar experience, but a laptop was not involved, but instead 3 desktops WIRE networked.  The first computer does not have the problem, but the second and third computers on which I loaded the printer software both have the problem.  When the printer has not been turned on (similar to the laptop used off-site) those 2 computers show in the “Processes” in Windows 7 Task Manager that
HPNetworkCommunicator.exe
TRIES to “run” at about 10-second intervals when printer is NOT TURNED ON
and that causes a “green circle activity indicator” to run (like hour glass with cursor) that is very annoying to say the least.
As soon as the printer is turned on the Windows 7 Task Manager then shows a SECOND instance of
HPNetworkCommunicator.exe
added to the list of "Processes" with BOTH instances of
HPNetworkCommunicator.exe
stabilized and the “green circle activity indicator” not running every 10 seconds.
The first computer that does not have the problem does NOT have ANY instances of
HPNetworkCommunicator.exe
running (or trying to run) in  the Windows 7 Task Manager - NOT either with the printer TURNED OFF or TURNED ON.
At this point I am tempted to uninstall all printer info from computers number 2 and 3 and doing a "clean" install from the installation CD or maybe just the drivers only and hopefully NOT getting something in the printer software installed on computers number 2 and 3 that I was lucky enough to not choose on computer number 1.

I'm sorry to hear that support didn't help.  And glad to hear two changes did the trick:
I found there is now a HP document explaining the two actions.
The Mouse Cursor Turns Into an Hourglass (System is Busy) After an HP Printer Network Installation
Windows 7
Follow these steps in the order presented to resolve the issue.
Step one: Change the ink alerts setting
Double-click the HP product icon on the desktop, or click the Windows icon ( ), click All Programs , click HP , and then click your HP product.
Under Shopping Resources , click Estimated Ink Levels .
Click the Advanced Settings tab.
Under Show Alerts , select Only show me ink alerts when I print .
Do not close the HP software.
Step two: Disable the Scan to Computer setting
Click Scanner Actions , and then click Manage Scan to Computer .
Click the Disable button.
Click to remove the check next to Automatically start Scan to Computer when I log into Windows .
Click Close to save the settings.
NOTE:To scan from the HP software or from the product control panel, reverse the previous steps to temporarily enable the Scan to Computer setting. After scanning, disable the setting again.
If I have helped you solve your issue please mark it as solved .....

  • Getting "HPNetworkCommunicator.exe has encountered a problem an needs to close" message

I have an HP Photosmart B210e, product number CN219A.    I am running Windows XP 32 bit and I am using a wireless connection to print. The problem is occuring on an HP Compaq 8510p laptop.
I have been using the printer for several months and it has worked great but about a week ago, I started getting an error message.   The first time I try to use the printer after turning on the computer I get a message saying "HPNetworkCommunicator.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close".  I am unable to print from that point forward.  Documents that I attempt to print just sit in the qeue.  However, if I shut the computer down and restart it, the print jobs will print on their own as soon as the computer boots up.  But then if I try to print another document I get the same error message and am unable to print.  Once I get the error message I am unable to use the HP software to check ink levels or communicate with the printer in any way.
I have attempted reinstalling the driver and software 2 times without any success.  I have run the HP print diagnostic utility and it tells me that "everything checks out okay with your printer" and asks me if I want to print a test page.  I try to print the test page and it is unable to print it.
I have the printer installed on another computer running windows 7 and it still works great.
Please let me know how I can fix this problem
I am unaware of any changes made to my computer other than the automatic windows and Mcafee updates.

I have exactly the same problems.  If you com up with an answer before I do please reply here. I'll do the same.

  • HPnetworkcommunicator.exe

What is the purpose of HPnetworkcommunicator.exe?  The program is continually going on for a few seconds then goes off.  The process repeats about every 10-seconds.
The problem arose after installing a new HP Officejet Pro 8600a Plus / HPN911g.
ANyone know what the program does or if I can delete the file?

It does not seem to be "necessary."
I have 3 desktops WIRE networked and 2 of them have the problem when the printer has not been turned on.  The 3rd computer NEVER has the problem whether the printer is turned ON or OFF.
I see that Google search has a big listing of people having similar problems with
    HPNetworkCommunicator.exe
affecting many different printer models and similar conditions whether wired of wireless networking.  My one computer that DOES NOT have the problem does not even have
    HPNetworkCommunicator.exe
running in Windows Task Manager at all - NEVER -  and it does fine with scan, fax, ink levels and all the rest !!
I wish I could remember what I did (unintentionally) with the one computer that is not "sick" (or is it the printer software that is sick?).

  • Hpnetworkcommunicator issues

HP 8600 Plus N911a connection issues after unit has been in sleep mode.
    1. Cannot print or scan to unit after 8600 has been idle, (sleep mode). Issue resolved by power cycle of 8600.
    2.  A side affect of the above is hpnetworkcommunicator.exe turning mouse into little circle every 5 seconds.
I have removed this from startup until issue gets resolved. (Disables scan to computer from printer.)
Running Windows 7 64 bit on wired and wireless computers.  Problem exists on both.
    I gave 8600 a static address. This didn't help.
I've had this unit for a couple weeks. Like the features, but the bugs are very annoying.
    Anybody ?

That issue is common amongst jst about every wireless printer. It is caused by power options software for the printer and PC. Its all about tryng to save the environment by using less energy.
I learned to live with it and just walk over and tap the touchscreen on the printer.
if you want you can change the power options on your PC and printer and set them to never sleep. I am not certain that you can do that with the printer, but the PC can definitely be set to performance mode and never sleep. Check at the web support portal for your printer to see if there is a new version of the software available.

  • Officejet Pro 8600 Plus connection issue - HELP!

I have a strange issue:  after some hours, the communication link is dropped between the computer and printer.  When this happens, IE becomes unusable and will not connect to anything.  This is replicated on three XP home machines.   The fourth, a vista ultimate machine, does not seem to be affected (yet).  I get the "scan to computer is disabled" error.  It cannot be re-enabled.  At this point I cannot print either.  I can reach the embedded web server on the printer via firefox and can still surf using firefox.  I can ping the printer, but again once the connection is dropped, no printing or scanning to the computer.  The only thing I've found that resolves the issue (temporarily) is to reboot the computer, which just starts the cycle again.
last night I installed the software on an XP machine and the laptop to test when the connection dropped.  They lasted from 7pm Monday until I got home at 5pm Tues.  The machines were not used.  Once I started using them (firefox only), then they dropped the connection within a half hour of each other around 7pm.  The other XP machine lasted from 7pm Mon until 7am tues, when my wife started using it and then noticed it dropped sometime that tues between 7 and 9AM.  An 11am tues reboot ran OK until 10 pm tues when connection was lost again (and IE is now dead).   The Vista machine has been running since 7pm monday until now (930pm tues) and still seems to be holding.
printer hardwired, to router, static IP, 100-full link speed (also tried 10-half)
    router dlink di-655
two XP machines are hardwired, vista is hardwired, and last xp machine is a laptop on wireless.
I've swapped cables rebooted and reinstalled multiple times.  I must have a file a mile long on the support phone line.  They were unable to fix it.  I asked this to be escalated, but who knows when I'll get a response.
I've toggled firewalls - XP built in
    I've uninstalled anti virus software
I've even put up with crazy suggestions from tech support like changing the router channel (uhh, it is wired!)
one xp machine had an AIO 4215 hooked via USB and the others printed to it via network, but the printer has been deleted from the networked machines.
I can ping 127.0.0.1 which is supposed to indicate the tcp service is OK.
I have not reset winsock .. I can see one machine being bad, but three????
malware / virus scan shows no issues.  Again one maybe, but three??
The only thing I can think of is that there is something in the XP networking stack that conflicts with the new 8600 software as hours pass.  Perhaps there is some polling operation that goes on then dies after some time, then it kills IE as it dies.
When the printer works it is great, but rebooting is not a permanent solution to this.
any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!!!!!  I am stumped and so is tech support.  They are sending it to engineering, but who knows when they will respond.
    thanks in advance.

well it looks like I have a working solution  ... I downloaded a freeware file called process.exe .  I made a cmd file via notepad with the following contents:
rem this is to keep the HP network printer communicating with the desktops
    rem
    process -k "hpnetworkcommunicator.exe"
    rem
    process -k "scantopcactivationapp.exe"
    rem
    "C:\Program Files\HP\HP Officejet Pro 8600\Bin\HPNetworkcommunicator.exe"
    rem
Start "" "C:\Program Files\HP\HP Officejet Pro 8600\Bin\ScanToPCActivationApp.exe" -deviceID CNXXXX:NW -scfn "HP Officejet Pro 8600 (Network)"
the XXXX is your printer serial number with an extra character or two.  Pull that number from the port tab after you pull up "properties" for the 8600 printer.
This cmd file basically restarts the printer link.  It opens a command window that launches the program to re-establish the link.. then it closes the command window.   The launched program shows that the communication link is dead (just for a few seconds), but then it makes the connection... THEN you hit the close button and coninue your work until it dies again.
I may have it autorun every X hours if I can narrow down a good time.  Until then I have a shortcut on the desktop to "FIX HP LINK"   ...   I only had to do this for my XP machines, as the vista one seemed OK.
What ticks me off is that I shouldn't have to do all of this diagnosis. It would be nice if there is a fix in the pipeline so the link stays stable al the time.  I've spent hours trying to figure this crap out.
Anyhow, I hope the time I spent helps someone.  PS, thanks to the OJ6500 thread that had the info for the scantopcactivationapp.exe program.
PS  ...  I'm still waiting for an engineer to contact me, if any HP employees are reading this.
PSS  I haven't tried this without killing and restarting the hpnetworkcommunicator stuff, but it works for now.

  • Svchost problem

    Hello,
I have problem with svchost during scanning via wifi. When I want scan, svchost starts to take 100% of CPU and never stops. Wifi printing works fine. USB printing and scanning works fine.
    Printer: HP Photosmart 5515
    OS: XP SP3
Firewall: ZoneAlarm free edition (but installed and tested without ZA)
Other computers (XP SP3 with windows FW, W7 with WFW) on our home net print and scan fine via wifi.
HPHNDU.exe doesn't identify any problem, but doesn't see the ZoneAlarm firewall.
HPSDU.exe Find the printer, doesn't indicate any manager for the scanner (it's declared as fine), but when try WIA scanning, the problem with svchost.exe occurs. HP TWAIN does the same problem.

    Thank you for your response.
I tried the diagnostic software before the first question.
Quote: "HPSDU.exe Find the printer, doesn't indicate any manager for the scanner (it's declared as fine), but when try WIA scanning, the problem with svchost.exe occurs. HP TWAIN does the same problem."
Now I have tried it once again. I installed a windows features for faxing. From that time the problem with svchost doesn't appear when I have switch on the firewall (ZoneAlarm Free). When the FW is shut down the problem with svchost is sill in the same state.
I reinstalled the HP print/scan utility, but it doesn't any effect. I tried it twice. Once with FW, once without FW.
When the installation reaches the option to use the HPprinter as a default printer and option to use the "self scan utility" and I chose something (doesn't matter what I chose (I tries all possibilities)), than the svchost problem occurs (doesn't matter if the FW is on or off). After that, the question about cartridges occur and open a web browser to register the HP AIO.
It's necessary to mention that the svchost problem doesn't freeze the notebook at all, but all operations are really slow.
The left error says: "scanner with no reaction".
The bottom error says: "Scanner unavailable. Check if the product is plugged in the electricity... etc."
Do you have any idea how to solve this connection problem?
    Kind regards,
    Petr

  • Mobile Programming with wireless communication

I want to create a program for mobile devices (PDA's).
This program has to sent data e.g image from the mobile to a server and store them in a database. The communication between them i want it to be wireless.
Can someone direct me how exactly i have to start and what steps i have to follow in order i don't get confused in the future. Also what technologies i can use.
If you want you can recomend also books, but don't forget that i am a beginner.
    George

What error message do you receive?
Does the printer work from other computers?
You mentioned a McAfee firewall.  Strict firewalls have been known to block communication with the printer.  Unfortunately, I am not familiar enough with McAfee's firewall to give any steps.
This blog from HP details the ports that are needed for printing and installation to be successful.  If the ports are being blocked by the firewall, or hpnetworkcommunicator.exe, then it will not work on that system with the firewall.
While they may not be able to disable the firewall, they may be able to make the necessary changes for the firewall to let it through.  They may need to submit a request for review before opening those ports.  I am not familiar with their IT security practices to determine if they will do that or not.

  • Two issues with HP5514 wireless printer

I have 2 issues that I've had since I installed the Photosmart 5514 a year ago...
I get giberesh on my printouts.  Seems to be narrowed down to sending a 2nd doc to the printer while it is printing the first doc.  When it gets the 2nd doc, the first starts printing giberesh and the next docs are all giberesh.  Power cycle the printer to clear.
The 2nd issue started in the PC after the printer software was intalled.  Outlook 2007 will stop loading pictures from the web in my emails.  If I kill the hpnetworkcommunicator.exe tasks in task manager, they will start loading.  Then when I want to print to the 5514, I have to reboot the pc.  The PC is an HP D530 with XP.
I have allowed the updates when the popup says there are updates.
The issues make me limit my use of the 5514 and keep using the older other brand printer.

As i understand, you have a NETGEAR firewall (with DHCP on) and two Linksys routers working as APs. As far as connectivity for internet is concerned, IP address settings as you mentioned for all the three devices is absolutly correct. You didnt mentioned the physical connectivity of 2nd router. Basically, if DHCP is disabled on both Linksys routers then you can either connect both routers to NG firewall (LAN to LAN) or connect first router to NG firewall (LAN to LAN) and 2nd Linksys router to the first router (LAN to LAN).
For the wireless connectivity, you can either keep same SSID or different SSID on both routers, both settings would work since they all the three devices are physically connected and have a single default gateway i.e. NG firewall. However, i would recommend to keep the same SSID on both linksys routers for seamless wireless connectivity.
And last as you mentioned regarding the network name that you cannot see for the first router.
You can upgarde the firmware of the router
And try to change the wireless channel to 6 , 9 or 11 and then try to view the wireless network.

  • Officejet L7680 spontaneously "disconnects". New USB, no help. Uninstalled, reinstalled, etc

My Officejet L7680 will start to print, then after 1/2 page, the solution center pops up with "disconnected" message.  I purchased new USB, changed port, reinstalled, etc.  Followed all instructions from HP.  Still no help.

well it looks like I have a working solution  ...

  • Tech support stumped, imposition software question: Dynagram Dynastrip

We recently upgraded from Acrobat 8 Standard to Acrobat 9 Pro (Windows XP).
We make PDFs out of Quark Xpress and InDesign.
Since the upgrade our printer is saying our PDFs do not show up on their imposition software - Dynagram Dynastrip v4.
They say they just hang up and never pop into place. The PDFs look fine on our end, and color separate as they should.
Interestingly a girl here has Acrobat 9 Pro at home on her Mac, and a test file from her worked just fine.
So there has to be some setting that's different between Mac & PC. And something that changed from 8 Standard to 9 Pro.
I called Adobe Tech support and they said they don't have any experience with this imposition software and suggested I call Dynastrip.
Dynastrip says the current version is 5.3.1 and our printer should upgrade their software. I am not in a position to force that upon them.
And, as I said, a test file from 9 Pro / Mac worked.
I tried taking all security off and gving "everyone" full control, but that didn't do it.
I appreciate any help you can give me.

I reloaded iTunes 10 (64 bit) successfully, but the problem remains the same.
    Any suggestions?

I looked in the folder from which I want to synch photos, but there is no such thing as an "ipod photo cache" in that folder, or sub-folders, as suggested in the link which you were nice enough to provide.
I have also tried removing photos from my iPad2 Photos App, and "iTunes has stopped working" shows up  again as soon as I click on the "Synch photos from" button.

  • Report Generation Exe Error

    Hello,
I am using LV 8.6.1 with the 1.13 report generation toolkit and I am having problems getting my built exe to work.  I am trying to open an excel template and populate it with new data.  I have broke the vi down to just opening excel - opening the template and then fill in some data.  But at this point excel does not open at all.  And naturally everything works fine in the development environment.
    Error Code: -2147352573
    Member not found in NI_ReportgenerationToolkit.lvlib:
    Excel_open_workbook.vi
    NI_Excel.lvclass: new reportsubvi.vi
I read a few help pages that said to add \vi.lib\utility\NIreport.llb and LVclass directories to the project folder and add them to the always include section of the build.  But no luck so far.
Side question:  The machine I want to use this on has 8.6.1 Full which does not have the extra excel functions that my developer has.  Is there a way to install the DEV report generation toolkit in the full version?  Then I would not need to build an exe.
UPDATE:  I just tried the exe on a different machine that has a developer suite installed and it worked fine.  So I guess I need to find out what else I need to add to the build to make it work.

    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

There should be some info on this in the KB.
But first you should make sure that your version of the report generation toolkit actually supports excel 2000 (which is 10 years old)
That should be in the release notes of the toolkit

    3. On several report gen functions cohersion dots are on my refnum input.  Is this the cause of my problem with the exe?
I guess there is an another learning curve when dealing with the app builder.

  • Report generation toolkit VI error when running EXE

A VI inside the Report Generation Toolkit (version 1.1.2), Excel Find Application Directory.vi, will not function correctly when running an EXE.  The "Current VI's path" block will return the path of the currently running EXE rather than the path of the Excel Find Application Directory VI.  (The same would be true for Word Find Application Directory.vi.)
