The above thread from Vincent3569 on june 27th. I am also experiencing this problem. It is exactly the same in IE8 and Firefox. Every time a pdf file is opened the browser crashes. Bearing in mind many everyday sites are now using the acrobat file format (ie credit card company statements, bank statements etc ) and a lot of the non computer literate public are not aware of this change so do not know how to post a problem let alone to whom ie Adobe.
I have been experiencing this problem for over 9 months now and it is a royal pain in the £$%^.
Please take it seriously and look into it, I can assure you what you are seeing is only the tip of the iceberg.

Have you tried "repairing" the installation ?

As I understand it you are using Reader, not Acrobat. It is appropriate to ask questions in the Reader forum. Adobe is the name of the company, not the product.
When you say you can not open a PDF, how are you trying to open it? Can you open Reader? Have you rebooted after the install? -- A lot of questions you did not answer.

Numbers can store pdfs pages or clippings but does not directly open pdf files. To get the bank statement into Numbers as a table I would open the bank statment in Preview (or Skim) or some pdf viewer.
Then hold the option key while selecting a column of data.
Then copy
Then switch to numbers and paste the column into a table
Then repeat for the other columns in the pdf document
It would be easier (in my opinion) to download the QFX or CSV version from your bank

Acrobat XI can't open a PDF file if space in name

I have a .net WinForms Application that calls the Acrobat Reader using a System.Diagnostics.Process.Start. On Acrobat Reader 7 - 10, this works fine. On XI , I receive a message "Unable to Open a Document".
Upon furthur research, it appears that I can't open a PDF document when using Adobe XI if the filename has a space.
Is this a bug? is there a workaround? Any suggestions or comments will be appreciated.

The way I got around this was to uncheck the Enabled Protected Mode at startup. You can find this in the Adobe menu Edit->Preferences->Security (Enhanced).

I can't open a pdf file.

My computer was working fine until about 2-3 weeks ago. Suddenly I could no longer open a PDF file. I had Adobe Reader installed and all was good. I asked our IT guy and he suggested downloading Adobe Reader again. I did this and still get the error message. Then I had a friend to tell me to uninstall and reinstall. That did not work either. The error message looks like this:
Fill conversion - document name.pdf
Select the encoding that makes your document readable.
Text coding (then 3 options)
Windows (default) MS-DOS Other encoding
Then there is a pop-up window within the error message with all kinds of options.

It apparently has been a problem for three days of the supplier, that redirected bad was sending us documents. Thanks for your support and I hope they have fixed it.

Can`t open document on Illustrator but adobe reader and photoshop opens it, it is a problem with the text font Futura T-Bold. How to open it on Illustrator?

I downloaded the file, and:
It is not a Photoshop PDF.
I get the same result attempting to open in Illustrator; mangled font substitution. That's because I don't have one or more of the exact fonts used in the document installed on my computer, and I suspect the same is true of yours.
The fact that it opens without issue in Reader and Photoshop is essentally meaningless, (or at least it's not an inidication that it also should open without issue in Illustrator, which is what your original post seems to imply). Reader displays the correct fonts because subsets of them are embedded in the PDF for use by Reader. Photohop just rasterises the whole page, so there is no font data needed.
If you had the fonts, you wouldn't get the substitution in Illustrator. It works that way for any PDF.

Preview can't open any pdf file

PDF documents are greyed out in the open menu.
Setting Preview as the "open this document with..." app in the get info window gives the message that "it's not known if this application can open Adobe PDF files"
At the same time, Safari started crashing on being asked to open a PDF file.
I've reinstalled Safari, grabbed Preview from a Time Machine backup from when it worked, reinstalled the developer tools in case they wrote over webkit, trashed all preferences and rebooted. No joy.
I looked at the document types list in Preview's info.plist and the entry for com.adobe.pdf is in there. I've opened an eps file in Preview and saved it as a pdf; I can then open that pdf in Acrobat, but not in Preview (even though it appears in the "recent documents" list.)
What am I missing?

I can't open my pdfs in the normal way

I can't open a pdf by double clicking on it. I get an error message as follows:
"The Document 'Blank page for email.pdf' could not be opened. Acrobat cannot open files in the 'Adobe PDF document' format".
This started yesterday after I downloaded a driver for my HP scanjet 5590.
I should be very grateful for any help.

Boot in safe mode. This will cause certain caches maintained by the system to be rebuilt.
Safe mode is much slower to boot than normal.
When the login screen appears, reboot as usual (not in safe mode) and test. There's no need to log in while in safe mode.
Note: If FileVault is enabled on some models, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t boot in safe mode. In that case, ask for instructions.

Pages: Can't open document on iPad

Dear,
Yesterday i started a big document on my iPad using pages.
After finishing it i could send PDF to an email address.
Today i try to edit something but i cant use the document anymore. i dont see an icon of my text but an icon of pages and when i try to use it i get an error messages like: "Can't open document". iPad, iPhone and iCloud cant reach the document anymore.
Any idea how to get my document back?????

It seems to be hit or miss if this works or not, but try opening Pages on the iPad, then before you select a document, on the very first screen, hit the "Edit" button, then select your document. Then click the arrow coming out of the box in the upper left corner & email the document to yourself. Try opening the email on a computer, selecting the file and adding the pages file type (.pages) to the end of the name. Then try reopening it in Pages.
I don't know if this is what happened in your case, but it seems like sometimes iWork documents lose that file type indicator & then Pages (numbers/ Keynote) won't open them.
