Re: I spilled my drink on my keyboard of Satellite A500-1GL

I accidentally spilled a drink on my keyboard of my Toshiba Satellite A500-1GL.
I turned off the laptop immediately and dried it out.
It is being left off until I have a reply.
note: I spilt the liquid just about 1/4 of the keyboard.
_thank you._

Hi
You should turn the unit upside down and should wait until the unit dried.
In best case the unit should power up properly but it could be possible that your motherboard or another part like RAM module or keyboard could be affected.
Something similar happened to my girlfriends notebook. In my case the RAM module was dead and notebook could not boot up I replaced the RAM and was happy to see the Toshiba splash screen

  • I spilled sticky drink over my keyboard . . .

I spilled a sticky drink over my keyboard.  I immediatly removed battery and turned keyboard upside down with an obsorbant cloth.  I left it alone for a few days.  Now the computer comes on but the keyboard does not work and I do not get an arrow for touchpad.  Any chance this can be saved?

Please list your model number when posting.  You can try removing the keyboard, and attaching an external keyboard, to see if that resolves the situation.  If it does, you can pick up a new keyboard, and swap it on.  Also look for anything spilled on the motherboard after you remove the keyboard.

  • Satellite A500-1GL upgraded with backlight keyboard but don't work

    Hi,
    I have a Toshiba A500-1GL Laptop.
I wanted to upgrade it with a Backlit Keyboard, so I went to a Toshiba authorized reseller in my area (Portsmouth, UK) and after checking the laptop, they said yeah, it supports a Backlit Keyboard and it will cost me about 90 Pound (about $140) the price of the backlit keyboard and the cost of fitting.
So I said Ok, lets do it..
But the keyboard is not working!!!
I went back to where i bought it, and i asked the guy (again) "are you sure my laptop supports Backlit?".. he said yeah, and actually he removed the keyboard and showed me 2 slots (one to attack the keyboard, and one to attach the light cable)
So.. My laptop Supports Backlit Keyboard.. But its not working!!
I tried to reinstall the Value Added Package, Flash Card.. Chipset.. almost everything!
But it still not working (it should work when i click Fn+Z)
    What can i do now??
I cant return the keyboard, coz as the guy said "sry its now used" !!
So what should i do? Is there something i should install/remove which am missing or what?
    Any help will be appreciated..
    Cheers.

    Hi
What to say either the technician did something wrong or the notebook is not upgradable.
As far as I know the keyboard illumination is controlled by BIOS.
In my case I can disable this and enable this in BIOS.
I have no idea if your BIOS contain such option but you could check it
Please note that every notebook model supports and certain BIOS every BIOS is different.
So in my personal opinion if the BIOS does not support this feature you would not be able to enable the illumination even if the keyboard has been installed.

  • I bouhght my computer a week ago and I spilled a liquid on my keyboard , and i would like to know how much coast to repaid the damage , i didnt buy in the offical apple shop.

i bouhght my Macbook pro retina display 13 Inch i5  a week ago and I spilled a liquid on my keyboard , and i would like to know how much coast to repair the damage in apple store , i didnt buy in the offical apple shop. Some places are asking to pay 620 Pounds.

The only way you can get a valid estimate is by someone examining the MBP directly.  Since no one on these forums can see or examine your MBP, you will need to get this infomation from a qualified repair shop.  It seems that you already have secured one estimate.  You can also bring the MBP to an Apple store and have a genius bar examine it for FREE.
    Ciao.

  • I spilled milk on my imac keyboard

I accidentally spilled milk on my iMacs keyboard.i immediately took out the battery's and let it dry on a paper towel in the sun but I just realized that milk would only stick when it dries and it's the wireless keyboard so I can't even open it without breaking it. I was thinking about putting it in the dishwasher and then letting it dry for a week or so. Is this the right thing to do.
I still see the milk in the inside of the keyboard and it won't come out. My keyboard is the newest ones that are wireless.
What do you think I should do?
    Thank you

You should go out and buy a replacement keyboard. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but the chances of your keyboard surviving a milk spill are pretty low.

  • Spilled Soda on my T500 keyboard

So I spilled soda on my T500 keyboard a couple of weeks ago. No soda came out of the bottom but I cleaned the spill pretty well with a dry cloth. But the keys are now sticky and for some of them I have to press harder for them to work. What can I do? Note not super tech savvy so explain everything in layman terms please.

Ideally, you should replace it. If you want to try salvaging it, do the following:
Follow this guide to remove the keyboard:
    http://download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub/pc/pccbbs/mobiles_pdf/43y6630_03.pdf
Once you've removed the keyboard, give it a good rinse and let it dry COMPLETELY. Have the water run through the keyboard tray from one direction to another.
Reinstall the keyboard when it is COMPLETELY dry. The COMPLETELY part is important because water can hide in nooks and crannies of the keys, which will cause a short when it receives power.

  • I spilled wine on my laptop keyboard. Now it won't turn on. What can I do?, I spilled wine on my laptop keyboard. Now it won't turn on. What can I do?

II spilled wine on my laptop keyboard. Now it won't turn on. What can I do?, I spilled wine on my laptop keyboard. Now it won't turn on. What can I do?

Don't attempt to turn it back on.  Remove the battery if you have a user removable battery.  Take the mac to an Apple Store or AASP and expect a very large repair bill.  More times then not, a liquid spill on a keyboard results in a damaged logic board, which usually costs several hundreds of dollars to replace.  Liquid damage is not covered under warranty if you have AppleCare.  Check with your renters/homeowners insurance to see if it may be covered.

  • Satellite A500 PSAM3A - Can I install a backlit keyboard?

    Hello,
i have a Toshiba Satellite A500 laptop with the following numbers i can find: P7350 part number PSAM3A-04200E serial number- 79365650K.
I would like to install a backlit keyboard onto it,
    Is this model compatible?"

    Hi
Satellite A500 PSAM3A-04200E seems to belong to Toshiba Australian notebook series.
In order to use a backlit keyboard, the motherboard needs to provide a special connector/port for keyboard illumination cable.
You could get some details from a Toshiba ASP in Australia
    www.mytoshiba.com.au
But I found some parts retailer and many of them provides keyboards W/O BACKLIGHT

  • Satellite A500-17X: How to get new backlight keyboard to work?

    Hi there
I recently had to replace the keyboard on my A500-17X (PSAR3E-00N005EN) and I decided to replace it with the backlit model of the same keyboard. The original keyboard wasn't backlit but I thought i'd give it a go anyway as it was the same price.
I installed it into my laptop and everything is working fine apart from the backlight function.
There was even a port for the power ribbon to go into so it is definately installed properly. I read on other forums that it is sometimes an issue with the BIOS or HWsetup but my BIOS doesn't give me the option for it and neither does HWsetup.
I was just wondering whether there is a way of getting the backlight to work on the keyboard.
Perhaps a different driver or changing the BIOS/HWsetup somehow?
    Would appreciate any answers!
    Regards
    James

I believe there is no way to activate the backlight through drivers or BIOS settings. You may need to send the notebook to a Toshiba Repair center to get it activated.

  • Satellite A500-19x - Is backlit keyboard available?

    Hi
This laptop was meant to have a backlite keyboard.
I even phoned Toshiba to check but it has no symbol on the z key.
Anyone know anything about this problem?
    Can it be remedied?

    Hi
There are different Satellite A500 models with different hardware configuration!!!
The Z button of A500-19x does not contains a tiny keyboard sign and therefore the unit does not support the FN + Z which would enable or disable the keyboard backlight!
This function is not available on this model.
    Bye

  • Satellite A500-1E4 - Does it have backlight keyboard?

Does the Satellite A500-1E4 with nordic keyboard, have a backlit keyboard?

    Hi PEJ,
1.) Read exactly!! *Only some* A500 have backlight keyboard. Not all models have this feature.
2.) It would be interesting to know, why LED lightning for touchpad, Satellite-logo, etc. has something to do with the keyboard.
All A500 and newer Toshiba notebooks have LED lightning for touchpad, etc. but backlight is an additional feature. ;)

  • When spilled water on MacBook Pro keyboard?

Ok, I haven't spilled water yet however, I just wanted to prepare for the accident so I don't have to lose my valuable investment.
I have done some research however, there were some controversies so I came to ask for the best answer from the Apple Support Communities people.
So what is the best course of action when spilled water on MBP keyboard?

There have been lots of posts about water (and worse) spilled on Mac portables. Turning upside down, covering the computer with uncooked rice and many other "cures" have been posted but, most of the time, fail to prevent damage, even if only "pure water" is the invader. The damage is done when the water hits the live logic board, so the usual interventions only prolong the inevitible--a complete rebuild or a new computer.
The bottom line is that , in the majority of cases, the computer is ruined, or the repair cost would almost buy a new one.
The absolute best proactive step is to have homeowners'/renters' insurance that covers accidental damage to computer equipment. AppleCare does not. Get a deductible low enough that you can cash-flow the deductible.
Other things to consider "before the fact":
---Don't eat or drink near your laptop.
---Don't let friends eat or drink near your laptop. Hide the computer when they come to visit.
---If you have friends with IQs lower than the legal speed limit in the US, give them a blessing and then go find some smarter friends.
---If you have a cat, be aware that many cats see an open notebook computer as a drop-off station for biological samples. At best they find the keyboard to be a warm place to sleep. Keep the lid shut, even if you walk away from the computer for only a few minutes. Most computer techs will not even look at a compuer that's been fouled by a pet; they view it as a biohazard.

  • Sticky keys after spilling a drink on Equium A200-196

I recently spilt a drink on my laptop i have removed the keyboard but am unabal to remove the back plate from the keys.
Does anyone have any suggestions on how i might clean the sticky keys or is it a question of purchasing a new keyboard?

    > Its basically a wafer thin metallic plate that remains attached to the keys once you remove the keyboard, it would appear the keys are connected to it in some way, i wasnt sure if it was possible to separate them?
Dont think you can remove it. As I said only the keycaps are removable.

  • My Mom spilled wine on her Pro keyboard

Now that I persuaded my Mom (84 years old) to replace her PC with a MacBook Pro 15", she today confided in me that she spilled a glass of wine on the keyboard two weeks ago. She instantly turned it over and says she blotted everything she could blot, but now thinks this is the reason she can't log on to the Internet or get email. She lives 100 miles away and I'll be going up there tomorrow but could use some experience before then.
I asked her to type a letter using all the keys several times, which she did, printed it out, and they all work. She got email (Airport connection via cable modem) for at least a week after the spill; spotty since then, and she thinks her wine did it. I think not, can anyone offer advice? I've always had Macs and they're pretty forgiving but I've never had a MacBook Pro to know what liquids can do if spilled within. I'm pretty much of the "it either works, or it doesn't" camp.
Any advice would be appreciated before I confront the drunken laptop!

I know this is a separate (but not really) issue, but it seems her real issue is Internet connectivity. We bought the computer and Airport Express and a HP printer from the Apple store that was supposed to be wireless but I'll be danged if I could figure out how to make it work wirelessly from her computer. So we just hard wired it to the Powerbook and that was OK with her. But now it seems like her Internet keeps breaking down. The times I've been at her house trying to fix it, I've noticed that the white Airport Express plug/box is VERY hot. Is this normal? It seems to me that the Mac should "find" the wireless network no matter where it is, but this isn't happening. The cable modem seems reliable since her TV works OK. All I can think is that the signal from the Airport module to the computer is easily corruptible. This happened before the wine spill.

  • Some coffee got spilled on my MacBook Pro keyboard

Some coffee got spilled onto the keyboard of my MacBook Pro keyboard (it's the newest model), when it happened I turned it off immediately and quickly turned it over to have it drip out of the keys. I blow-dryed the keys with cool air and let it sit upside down for almost five hours. I went to turn it on and it started working fine. Is there a possibility that my laptop got liquid damage if it's turning on fine? Should I take it into an Apple Store to double check? There isn't one near me so I'm trying to avoid a trip if I can.

Please make a Genius Appointment and take it in for service ASAP. You are not qualified to handle liquid spills on a computer.
