Re-Imaging + Downgrade rights with Win 7 Pro Refurbished?

HI, is the following possible according to Microsoft licensing terms in Europe?
- I buy 100 x refurbished PCs with Windows 7 Professional Refurbished licenses (from an official Microsoft refurbisher)
- Then, I buy 1 x Windows 8 Professional Upgrade license.
Does this allow me to Downgrade my Windows 8 Professional license to Windows 7 Professional and do Re-Imaging with this 1 license and install it on my 100 PCs?
As far as I understand Microsoft-Licensing, it should be ok, but I want to make sure it is ok.
Many thanks!

    I read here (http://blogs.technet.com/b/volume-licensing/archive/2014/02/13/licensing-how-to-reimaging-rights-top-5-questions.aspx ):
2 - May I use reimaging and downgrade rights together to deploy a
prior version of the edition licensed?
Yes.  If the underlying OEM or Retail license you are reimaging offers downgrade or prior version rights, you are a Volume License (VL) customer, and have the appropriate VL media and keys available that match the edition and language for the underlying
license, you are permitted to reimage a prior version.  For more information on your downgrade rights, see the license terms applicable to your product, or see the
Downgrade Rights Licensing Brief.  For more information about access to prior product versions, please see the
    fulfillment website.

The short answer is, yes, that is what the paragraph you quoted says. If you haven’t read through the
Reimaging Rights Volume Licensing brief, I would recommend it.

    Hi,
    Here's my understanding:
Windows 7 Professional 64: old school - Win 7 installed and CoA sticker with key in the battery compartment..
Windows 7 Professional 64 preinstalled through downgrade rights in Windows 8.1 Pro 64:  No Win7 CoA sticker.  Win 8.1 key in BIOS. Win 7 installed.  Usually Win 8 media included in the box.  (I've seen reports that it sometimes wasn't included - verify that before purchasing).
The advantage of Win 7 old-school is that the CoA key can be used when doing a clean Win 7 install from Microsoft media.  Advantage of the downgrade setup is that you also have Win 8.1 if you later decide to change OS.  Disadvantage is that doing a clean Win 7 install requires some strange gyrations:  Understanding downgrade rights
If you do go with the downgrade option, please make Win 7 recovery media when you receive your laptop.  Otherwise if you switch to 8.1 at some point you won't have a way to go back to 7 easily.

  • How to upgrade to Win 8 from "Win 7 Pro 64 preload through downgrade rights in Win 8 Pro 64"?

If I buy a new W530 that according to the tabook has "Windows® 7 Professional 64 preinstalled through downgrade rights in Windows 8 Pro 64-bit" how could I in the future upgrade to Windows 8 with minimum hassle?
Am not really interested in spending the time on clean installs so am wondering if there is a hidden Windows 8 preload behind the visible Windows 7 preload, for instance available through Lenovo support sending me Windows 8 recovery disks for the W530.

  • Win 7 preinstalled through downgrade rights in Win 8 Pro 64

My new T430s has Win 7 Pro preinstalled via downgrade rights in Windows 8 Pro.  I assume this means the recovery media on the machine is for Win 7(?).    Since the machine apparently has a Win 8 Pro license that has been downgraded, what is the procedure to follow to upgrade the existing license to Win 8?
I tried searching Support (which hasn't worked much of the PM) to locate instruction for upgrading a machine that already has a Win 8 license, yet whose preinstall was downgraded to Win 7 Pro.  I'm not sure whether the COA is in BIOS - and if it isn't, will these machines be unable to access the Lenovo tools from the Windows Store?
I would sure appreciate it if someone could point me in the right direction.   Thanks.

I solved the issue so I'm updating my post for continuity.  I managed to fetch the original box from the dumpster (!!) where I discovered a Windows 8 Pro Operating System Recovery Disc.  I also noticed a small sticker on the outside of the box indicating that both OS were included.
If anyone else receives one of these pre-downgraded Win 8 Pro machines, you'll find the Safe Computing envelope actually contains something worth keeping.

  • Downgrade Rights 8.1 Pro to 7

    Hello All,
I have been searching for a bit but haven't found exactly what I am after, so I thought I'd ask around and see if anybody can help me out.
We recently brought 10 machines  (E550) into our environment (20 more on the way) with 8.1 Pro installed. We have a custom image of Windows 7 Pro we would like to use. The image is generated from a retail copy of Win 7 Pro that has been fully patched and customized with some common line-of-business applications we regularly use. This allows us to generate new machines very quickly without having to deal with heavy amounts of patching and customization and is a real time saver for us.
We are a relatively small organization and don't have a VL account with Microsoft and as such, we've been relying on the OEM keys provided with the machine to activate our copies of Win 7.
Now, with the new machines, we are able to view the embedded SLP key for 8.1 Pro but we cannot activate it against our retail copy of Win 7 Pro like we could with previous OEM keys ('Invalid key' or 'key entered incorrectly' messages). We meet all the requirements set out by MS for downgrade rights but I cannot find any way to make it work, outside of purchasing VL upgrade keys and using those- a huge additional expense for software we already purchased when we bought the equipment.
Has anybody found a workaround to using the embedded key? Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance for any assistance you can provide. Let me know if you have any questions and I'll respond back right away.

Have you looked at this, http://www.microsoft.com/OEM/en/licensing/sblicensing/Pages/downgrade_rights.aspx
I have not actually tried a downgrade but the only thing I can think of is there is a difference between reimage and install. Not sure if that is your problem.

  • Error when trying to save still image from video with Quicktime Pro

I just purchased Quicktime Pro so that I can use it with my new Nano (the one that shoots video). I want to grab a frame from the video and create a still image (in jpeg format). I should be able to do it, but when I try, I get an error 11005 (or something like that). Anyone know any way to fix this? Thanks!

I also tried the alt/ctrl/shift buttons when clicking Editor in the Photoshop welcome screen. It did ask if I wanted to reset the preferences. I chose yes. I still get the same error message when trying to save for web.
Below....showing I don't have a "save for web" folder on my C drive.
And below, showing the same error after pressing alt/shift/ctrl when clicking on editor and clearing the preferences.
I don't have a 'Save for Web' folder anywhere on my C: drive. I searched and came up with no folder with the text "save for web" in it.
I did find a "save for web" folder on my D: drive and deleted that.. but now when I start up Photoshop, the option for Save for Web is grayed out...not able to select it.

Q: What is available online to enable usage rights?
    A: Nothing.

A: You do have to purchase software from Adobe, namely Acrobat Pro.

  • Windows 7 Pro installed through downgrade rights

If a pre-configured machine comes with Win 7 Pro "through downgrade rights," does that mean the key would also work with Win 8 Pro?

    Hi John_B,
please take a look at this thread in the W seies board, hopefully it will help answer your question.
The W7 key is embedded in the Lenovo factory image so you will need to create recovery discs.

  • Just bought a dell pc with windows 8. on my old pc (vista) i would right click a movie (in itunes format) and say open with itunes and it would play. Now it won't open in itunes and it just CRASHES. HELP PLEASE. is there a glitch with win 8???

okay not sure how this works so here i go again.
Okay i bought a dell pc with windows 8 (big mistake) i downloaded itunes and from my external hard drive, right clicked a movie file (in ipad format, because this worked in vista on my old laptop) and it will not go into itunes. And itunes keeps crashing. Is there a glitch with win 8 and itunes ? I never had this prob with vista. I would right click a file and say open with itunes and poof it goes in the library. Please help before i throw this thing out the window! OH newest itunes is what i have installed.

Take a look at this MBP, a refurbished unit.  Don't let the late 2011 release date put you off.  For about  $500 less than an equivalent 'new' one with similar specifications you get a quad core CPU and excellent graphics.  As Steve359 mentioned, this can be upgraded if the need arises and has the same warranty as a 'new' one
I would not be surprised that these may actually be 'new' MBPs due to the length of time that they have been replaced by the current generation.  I purchased a 17" model about 5 weeks ago, and a serial number check suggests that it is 9 weeks old.

  • Windows 8.1 downgrade to windows 7 pro recovery media with Satellite S50-BBT2N22

I have a few questions about my recovery media.
    1. My new Satellite S50-BBT2N22 was ordered with Windows 8.1 downgrade-able to Win 7 pro. Should I build my recovery media before or after I downgrade to win 7 pro?
    2. My new Satellite S50-BBT2N22 does not have a DVD drive. How will I save my recovery media?
    Regards

    1. Before.  Your Recovery partition will remain Windows 8.1. After downgrading to Windows 7 and beginning operations, you should make frequent HDD copies to an external drive anyway.
    2. Use a Flash Drive in a USB port.  See your User's Guide starting on page 46 for complete instructions

  • Having issues with Surface Pro 3 downloading boot image over PXE

    Hi,
We've recently started to buy the new Surface Pro 3 with the new USB 3.0 Gigabit Ethernet adapter and we have some issues deploying them through SCCM. Basically, with the Pro 2 and Fast Ethernet adapter we have no issue at all, of course the deployment is
a bit longer than on any other computer, but it is still quite faster than the latest Surface.
We have the new 8.13.414.2014 driver injected in the Win 8.1 boot image for the USB 3.0 Gigabit adapter and all the drivers assigned to the new Surface in SCCM.
The problem occurs when we try to load the boot image after choosing PXE, it takes more than an hour to load it when it shouldn't take more than 5 minutes.
I tried rolling back to the old driver (8.6.128.2013) and use the Fast Ethernet adapter, use the Fast Ethernet adapter with the new driver and use the new adapter with the old driver, but it's still slow in any case, so
I'm pretty sure it has something to do with the new Surface and not the Ethernet adapter.
Anyone have an idea what could be the problem here? Anyone having issues with Surface Pro 3 and SCCM 2012?

I would imagine you have upgraded to R2, have you also applied KB2905002.
This hasn't got anything to do with the TFTP loading phase of the boot image.
Similar thread to this can be found here:
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/a6d80714-dc26-43db-a071-93eaee267122/surface-pro-2-surface-ethernet-adapter-super-slow-pxe?forum=configmanagergeneral
I already asked in that thread the same question, but how about normal PCs that are connected to the same network segment as the Surface devices, do they boot slow also?

  • I have a laptop running Win 7 Pro, can I setup a dualboot with Win XP

My laptop is running Win 7 Pro (32-bit) but I have a Iomega Zip 100 drive which has not been supported since Win XP. I have numerous discs with content I would like to access and put onto CD. Can I set up a dualboot system with Win 7 and Win XP without
    affecting my current data?

The first thing you need to do is verify that there are Windows XP chipset and device drivers for your laptop. If there are none then XP may not function properly, no mouse, keyboard, video, USB ports may no work and more.
If there are drivers then read the following:

  • Acrobat Pro 8.2.6 with Win XP on SP 3 - Illegible Printing Issue

I'm using Acrobat Pro 8.2.6 with Win XP on SP 3.
Several weeks ago my PDF files, whether received via email or generated by scanning, cause a problem when I attempt to print.  When the PDF is printed to either one of three printers or to Adobe PDF to create a new PDF, the document changes to a dark grey background and the text ends up with a halo around it causing the document to be illegible. I don’t believe the printers to be part of the issue as they are multiple makes / models, of which two are network printers and the remaining printer is attached via a serial port.
I've used the original software to patch/repair several times, which works in the short run.  Once the PC is shut down though, or goes overnight, the graying-out issue resumes.
I have also used the "Optimized Scanned PDF" function, under Documents, which clears up most of the issues but any bolded or italicized text still has a residual halo so that portion is illegible.
Any ideas how to fix this ongoing issue?
    Thank you,

    >only fails on a certain account
That would SEEM to indicate it is a permissions issue
Different software, but with Adobe Encore on Win7 I can create a single layer DVD the "usual" way, but to create a dual-layer DVD I must right click the Encore icon and select Run as Administrator from the pop up option list
Give that a try... or, maybe, go to the Acrobat EXE and right click and select to always Run as Administrator (if that option is there for WinXP)
Note that for Win7 (maybe for WinXP ???) simply BEING the Administrator seems to be different than using the Run as Administrator option
