Re-importing 2nd copy of cd songs as AIFF

My question pertains to cd imports only. I want to re-import a large portion of my cd collection in AIFF format and sync some of those to a 2nd ipod dedicated to the larger files. Ideally, I'd just import and add to my existing AAC collection on a large disk and back it up, or use a RAID.
My question is how to import the duplicate songs into iTunes at higher resolution without replacing the existing AAC's. I know the duplicates can co-exist in different resolutions... but how can I sync the higher resolution songs into a 2nd iPod without also importing the AAC version?
My goal is to maintain my current AAC library, while gradually re-importing everything at full resolution. I want to use 1 iPod for general AAC use and a 2nd iPod for things such as encoded meditations, and presentation, where I need full resolution.
Is there a way to import into iPod by resolution?
If I use another drive dedicated to AIFF's, how do I create a library and import through iTunes so that I can import only the AIFF's from that drive into the 2nd iPod?
Any advice or link to a relevant thread would be greatly appreciated!

*My question is how to import the duplicate songs into iTunes at higher resolution without replacing the existing AAC's.*
Change your import settings to AIFF then insert the CD you want to import. When you try to import a CD that you've previously imported iTunes will ask you if you want to replace the existing songs, choose no.

If you are using a single library that contains both the AAC and AIFF versions of your songs, create a playlist specifically to sync with the iPod. You can make it a regular list and drag the AIFF files to it or you can make a smart playlist that automatically gathers up any AIFF format songs for you. Once the playlist is created connect your iPod and when it appears in the Source list click on the iPod icon to bring up the preference tabs in the main pane. Go to the Music tab and choose Sync Music and the Selected playlists, artists and genres radio button. Choose the playlist you just made from the selection and click Apply:

To create or access a second (or more) library, hold down the Option key when launching iTunes. In the resulting dialogue you will get the option to create a new library or navigate to the other Library.
Note: You can only have one Library open at a time and iTunes will default to the last library opened if you don't use the keyboard command to choose one. The new library will be empty until you add content to it. To get back to your original library you need to close iTunes and open it again while holding down the option key, this time choose to open an existing library and navigate to its location. The import setting in iTunes is global (it's not specific to a particular library) so any time you import a CD you'll need to change the setting to the relevant format for the library you have open: Using multiple iTunes libraries -Mac

  • How do I delete duplicate songs, but keep a link in their original albums to the single copy of the song left, so it will play in each album in sequence as if it were still there?

    Greetings!
After importing my 300 or so CDs into iTunes, I found I have tons of duplicate songs.
Example: I have a song that came in a original album, then in again in a "Greatest Hits" album, then again in a "Hits of the 80's" album, and again in a soundtrack album. I have now have 4 copies of the exact same song.
How do I delete duplicate songs, but keep a link in their original albums back to the single copy of the song left, so it will play in each album in sequence as if it were still there?
I don't think this currently exists, but as my library keeps growing the duplicates keep growing.  It would be nice if Apple sees this and adds a way to link songs to multiple albums.
I don't want to create a custom playlist for every album that has a duplicate song or two (I'd have dozens of playlists) - thought about fixing it that way but not really practical.

To my knowledge, there is no way of doing what you want. The only workaround is to create playlists for the other albums containing the track, but that isn't practical for most people.

  • I am unable to copy or Sync songs from my iTunes library to my iPhone

I took a new IPhone 5 on the 2nd Nov in India; I am unable to copy or Sync songs from my iTunes library to my iPhone ( The IPhone symbol appears on my ITunes screen , But when I drag the songs my library to IPhone I am unable to Sync songs ) Can anyone help me with this issue and the main reason for me to take an IPhone 5 is for it would be handy for me during travelling as I can use it as IPod too

Connect your phone to itunes as you have been doing.
In the sidebar, select you phone and then on the main part of the iTunes window, select Music.
Check the Sync Music box and then you can either sync all music, or select the tracks/albums/artists/genres as you wish.
Once selected, at the bottom right on the maon iTunes window, select Sync.
Music will now be copied to you phone.

  • Import a garageband for iOS song always shows a 0% below projects.

It is just after I uploaded songs from my iOS garageband (newest version and iOS), I can see my projects on the "import a garageband for iOS song" window (also the latest version), but there were 0%s under the projects. I clicked the project icons but nothing happened.

    Thank you for the reply.
Will put this on Apple's todo wishlist for iMovie for Mac OSX.
MEANTIME:  My main workaround is to:
    1.  Crank out an iMovie for iOS trailer video in HD 720 or HD 1080.
    2.  Copy the video file to the iMovie for Mac OS X machine.
    3.  Import the video file under a new Event under iMovie for Mac OS X.
    4.  Add a new Project to use to breakdown the video file into title sequences and "video well" shots.
    5.  Carefully Detach Audio from each "video well" shot.
    6.  Save and finalize the new Project for use as a "Trailer Template" Project.
    7.  Duplicate the "Trailer Template" Project for each New Trailer in that style.
    8.  And then insert new Event video sequences into video well shots.

Itunes could not copy (name of song) To the ipod (name of ipod) Because an unknown error occurred (-50)

I had this problem with a new album I downloaded this week from Amazon. It looks like they changed their cloud player download functionality within the last few weeks.
I previously tried the steps listed here: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1539
I had also tried Windows Updates and a few other suggestions I found on this topic and nothing had worked.
In iTunes, when I right-click on the track to "Get Info," I noticed it lists WHERE at the bottom of the Summary tab to show where the file is located. It said the file was located in \\?\C:\mp3\... Amazon automatically downloads my mp3's to this directory and imports them to iTunes. I assumed there was something wrong with the mapping, due to the \\?\.
If you notice your files are not mapped to a valid location:
Highlight the affected tracks and press the <Delete> key on your keyboard.
Select the Remove option when prompted to remove the files from your Library. Take care to Keep Files if prompted so you don't completely remove them from your computer.
Locate the files on your computer and drag them to import back into iTunes. If you check the location mapping in Get Info, the directory should now be valid.
I think the USB workaround above might resolve this issue, but this probably helps to explain that the files locations weren't referenced in iTunes correctly in the first place.

  • Tethered Capture feature request - make a 2nd copy

Make a 2nd copy feature is available during import of images, so why not whilst shooting tethered. Would love to see that feature. Please please please consider adding.

Short answer: No. That is the way it is.
Why? The Make Second Copy during Import is designed to be a backup of your memory card processes-not a back up of your files as you store them on disk. It is intended to be a transient copy that allows you an immediate backup until such time as a File System Level backup can be performed, allowing you to have two copies so that you can reformat your memory cards.
I agree it would be nice if the folder storage strategy was duplicated for the backup as it is created for the import but that is not something you can set the program to do currently.  I remember it behaving differently versions ago but do not recall exactly how it used to work.

    Hello everybody,
I would like to copy all the songs from one Ipod into another. All the songs are into my Itunes account, I tried to drag and drop the songs from the old Ipod to the new one but it doesn't work. Is there a way to do it ?
I share one Itunes account with other people from my family and one person would like to keep the same songs on the new Ipod as the ones which were on the old one.
Thanks in advance for your answer.

    Hello Chris,
Thanks for your answer. I was hoping for an easier answer. Too bad there is no drag and drop solution, it would have been much easier.
    Thanks for answering so fast.

  • IPod won't sync - "Itunes could not copy (name of song) to the ipod (name of ipod) Because an unknown error occurred (-53)"

I recently bought a used iPod Classic (my previous one was stolen). I still had my iTunes library on my computer so I was just going to hook it up and sync my library over, replacing what was on there from the previous user. When I first hooked it up to my computer (Windows 7 64-bit) there was a message saying the drivers were not installed properly. I un-plugged it, and plugged it back in to the same result. I tried 1 more time and didn't get the error message. I then opened iTunes and clicked on the iPod. I checked for updates, then clicked "Restore this iPod". Next, I set it up to sync music, and the sync began. It seemed to work for a while, the "Syncing iPod" message was displayed at the top, and it said it was copying songs over. It did this for about 10 minutes before I finally got the following message:
"Itunes could not copy (name of song) to the ipod (name of ipod) Because an unknown error occurred (-53)"
After that happens, everything seems to freeze up. iTunes says it's still syncing, but nothing ever seems to happen. If I click the eject button, nothing happens either. I eventually have to just disconnect the iPod. The iPod seems frozen for a while, then it seems to reboot itself (the gray apple window displays), then the interface displays and I can get to the songs on there. But, only a very small portion of my library makes it to the iPod. I've tried several times now and it always seems to be the same songs that DO make it onto the iPod. However, it's a different song listed in the error message each time, so it doesn't seem to be just 1 song causing the problem. Also, once I hook the iPod back to the computer, Windows displays a message prompting me to scan the drive and fix errors. I did it once and it said it found some errors and fixed them.
    I saw this thread: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3924425
and some people were suggesting removing everything from your library then re-adding it, in case the paths were messed up. I tried that and still got the same results. I also updated iTunes to the latest version, and I've tried different USB ports and 2 different USB cables.
I also found instructions for a batch file you can run that, I believe, updates the iTuens DLLs, I did that as well but it did not help: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1539
What else can I try to fix this?

I just bought a new macbook air. Now i want to sync my iphone to this computer. I copied all my songs and apps to the itunes. If I sync do i loose all my contacts and notes? because i could not copy it to itunes

You need to use the backup of your PC to transfer all the music files to iTunes on the Mac.
If you have no backup then you have a difficult task ahead of you as iTunes will only allow you to sync purchased music from the iPhone back into iTunes.   Any music you loaded into iTunes yourself will not transfer from the iPhone to iTunes, this is to prevent stealing of music.  To sync iTunes purchased music from the iPhone to iTunes, connect the iPhone and open iTunes, but when asked do NOT sync the device.  then right click on the iPhone in the iTunes source list and select the 'Transfer Purchases' option, you will also find this commend in the File menu.
If you are in the US, you can use the new iTunes in the Could feature to redownload your iTunes purchased music / apps / books for free.
If you want to transfer all the content from your iPhone to you Mac then you will need to use Google to find a 3rd party piece of software that will do this for you.

    Hi Le Etta,
    Welcome to Apple Support Communities!
Take a look at the article below, it provides details and instructions for multiple ways of moving the music from an old computer to a new one.
iTunes: How to move your music to a new computer
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4527
    Method
    Considerations
    Home Sharing
The easiest option, as long as your new computer is already connected to the Internet.
    External drive
Requires additional hardware but backs up your iTunes library.
    Transferring purchases
Fastest, but only moves the content you purchased from the iTunes Store. Also requires an iPhone, iPad, or iPod with the content on it.
    Windows Migration Assistant
Works best for migrating from an old PC to a new Mac, and transfers more than iTunes.

  • PSE-10 how do I import and copy from external hard drive into organizer

Can I import and copy from external hard drive into organizer? Under Get Photos, I select import  from folders/files but after browsing to the external hard drive the copy option is disabled/greyed out. I there a method to import and copy?

That would be mounted as an internal drive and hence the corresponding option is not checked during Import.
Once you import the media form this drive, you can select all and go for File >> Copy/Move files option and copy them wherever you want to.
    Hope this helps

how do i copy a single song to an ipod from a computer

    Hey rmanrussden,
Thanks for reaching out to the Apple Support Communities. Adding just one song to a device is easy if you have the latest version of iTunes. The latest version of iTunes should have the option for Manually manage music and videos so all you would need to do, with your iPod shuffle plugged in, is drag and drop the song on top of your iPod shuffle. Take a look at the article below for more details if you need it.

  • Lightroom won't allow me to add file during import - only copy

I'm trying to import items to my catalog.  When I choose items from my hard drive that are NOT in dropbox, Lightroom offers me the "add" and "move" options for the files.  When I choose files that are anywhere within dropbox, it only offers the "copy" import functions.  I don't want second copies of these files - I already have them imported into my computer.  It will let me import and copy TO the Dropbox files, but won't just add from them.
One detail (that shouldn't matter, but maybe) ... Windows believes that dropbox is indeed stored on the local hard drive but only through a junction trick within Windows.  The folder is actually on a very large SDXC card permanently resident on the computer.  Windows doesn't even know this as a result of the trick being used - so Lightroom shouldn't care.  Like I said ... Lightroom lets me import and copy TO those locations but when selecting files already there it makes me copy them.  I've been using Photoshop and CR forever and this has worked fine.  Trying to use lightroom for the improved elegance of the CR feature set and the ability to non-desctructively make and save raw level changes but can't tolerate duplication of thousands of raw images.
    Help!

    Thanks for the input.
Lightroom allows me to copy TO that location on an import but not import FROM it?  So I'm allowed to import and end up with stuff there, but not allowed to start with it there.  No sense at all in that design.  That's downright restrictive and really offers no particular benefit.  Hey, Lightroom designers ... change that!
This computer is a powerful ultrabook with a 512 SSD which is as big as reasonably and cost-effective available with the addition of a 256 SDXC card to handle the additional extra capacity I need.  Not too many other reasonable options out there.  This computer is constantly on the go and the addition of an external drive hanging off of it simply isn't manageable.
    Any other tricks out there?

  • Lately, when I play a song from a newly imported cd, itunes moves the song to another location. The song is still in the main list but it is no longer with the rest of the album. Any ideas?

Lately, when I play a song from a newly imported cd, itunes moves the song to a different location in the library. The song is no longer grouped with the rest of the album. Any ideas?

    Hi, llmrfan.
I have experienced this as well.  Usually it is something simple in the metadata that iTunes recognizes as different.  Try selecting all the songs at once in that album and get info on multiple tracks.  At that point you can mark them as part of a compilation.  The article below walks you through this process.
Why aren't songs with the same album art grouped together?
