Re-Importing favorite themes after reinstalling iDVD

I am at the point where I feel I may need to re-install iDVD, my only hesitation is that I have some themes saved as favorites, that I really don't want to trash. It's not the end-of-the-world if it comes to that, but I was wondering if there was a way to re-import them after re-installing. I see that they are stored in a favorites folder in an application folder in my library.

Have you tried deleting their preference files, as well as a bit of basic maintenance?
Go to Disk Utility (this is in your Utilities Folder in your Application folder) and click on the icon of your hard disk (not the one with all the numbers).
In First Aid, click on Repair Permissions.
This only takes a minute or two in Tiger, but much longer in Leopard.

By the way, you can ignore any messages about SUID or ACL file permissions, as explained here:

If you were having any serious problems with your Mac you might as well complete the exercise by repairing your hard disk as well. You cannot do this from the same start-up disk. Reboot from your install disk (holding down the C key). Once it opens, select your language, and then go to Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. Select your hard disk as before and click Repair.
Once that is complete reboot again from your usual start-up disk.

  • Import old account after reinstall

I just had a major file corruption that led to a reinstall. This seems to be spontaneous and may have been caused by a poor installation. I notice that the original user account is still in tact in the Users folder but it doesn't show in the Login Items preference pane. Is there a way i can fix it say with NetInfoManager? Or is there a simple way/software that i can use to import the account back in? It can't be difficult.

You can set the permissions quite thoroughly within the Finder:
    1. Select all the folders you've just moved, then hit Apple-Option-I (or hold down Option and select Show Inspector from the Finder's 'File' menu).
    2. In the Ownership & Permissions section of the Multiple Item Info window, press the disclosure triangle so the full section is visible.
    3. Make sure you're the owner, and that you can read and write. Make sure 'Others' is set to 'No Access', to keep your files private.
    4. Press 'Apply To Enclosed Items...' - this might take a while, but will make sure the permissions are set correctly for all your files.

  • Importing LP8 Prefs after Reinstalling OSX?

    Hello All,
Just did a quick search here, but I haven't found an answer yet. I just reinstalled 10.4.11 on my comp, wiping the whole drive clean in the process. Of course I made a disc image of my former HD before doing so and I am now in the process of dragging all the pertinent stuff back over.
How do I go about bringing my LP8 preferences/key commands/etc. onto my "clean" drive? I copied the Logic folder from users/app support/preferences on over, but it hasn't had any bearing that I can tell. Any advice would be much appreciated!

Probably because the main Logic prefs are named differently.
I can't remember, but I'm pretty sure LP8 picked up my existing prefs when I installed it - perhaps it's a function of the installer then, and because yours weren't available when you installed, it's not been converted over..?

  • After reinstall of OS and new HDD, can't import JPGs into iphoto from my SD card

My HDD failed - so I installed new HDD, reinstalled Snow Leopard and had Time Machine copy all my backed up content to my White Macbook (2007).
All my content is back - events etc in iphoto. But I just tried to import 200+ pictures from my camera's SD card, a process that has always worked flawlessly .... The thumbnails appeared blank on the Import screen. After clicking Import, and seemibgly going throufgh every picture, the error message was thatfiles could not be imported - The files are in an unrecognizable file format.
Any ideas? Any help much appreciated.
    Thanks, Johannes

    As a Test:
Hold down the option (or alt) key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'
Import a few pics into this new, blank library. Is the Problem repeated there?

  • If I import favorites from IE, does that totally remove them from IE?

If I import favorites from IE, does that totally remove them from IE?

I'm quite sure that importing favorites will not delete the originals because it is only "copying" them.
    Hope that helps.

  • Want to import favorites from IE. Click file, and import is dimmed. Cant use it when dimmed. Other way to import them ?

Following instructions from Fierfox to import favorites from IE to bookmarks in firefox. Instructions say in Firefox, click on "file", then "import". But "import" is dimmed and unable to use. Is there another way to import?

    * Make sure that you not run Firefox in (permanent) [[Private Browsing]] mode
    * In Private Browsing mode some menu items are disabled (grayed) and features like visited links are disabled and not showing
    * You enter Private Browsing mode if you select: Tools > Options > Privacy > History: Firefox will: "Never Remember History"
    * To see all History and Cookie settings, choose: Tools > Options > Privacy, choose the setting <b>Firefox will: Use custom settings for history</b>
    * Uncheck: [ ] "Automatically start Firefox in a private browsing session"
Export the Favorites in IE to an HTML file and import that file in the Firefox Bookmarks Manager.
    * Export the favorites in IE to an HTML file (bookmarks.html): File > Import and Export
    * Import the HTML file in Firefox: Bookmarks > Organize Bookmarks > Import & Backup > Import HTML: From File

  • IPhoto Library won't load after reinstalling Mac OSX

I have reinstalled mac i was having some problems and i am a newbie in mac so i tought a clean install would be good at that point
After reinstalling i had my user folder backed up i moved the files back to their original place, and organized everything because it was messy, and then started a timemachine backup on an external drive
    so in short:
    i reinstalled mac
restored my iPhoto Library to the Pictures folder
Updated everything to the latest version ( since the photo library was created with the latest version )
when i tried to open iphoto it stayed reloading for an hour then i gave up and searched online
my pictures are all there i can copy them and start a new library but that is not what i want
i want my events as i sorted them i want my faces as i sorted them i spent a lot of time making these pictures as they were
    please help
    Things i already tried:
    vacuuming the *.db sqlite files
removing the faces.db so that if the faces are the problem i would know
    tried removing all *.db files
tried to import my photos to a new library but that is not what i want
right now i have 2 libraries, a new one wih ****** event names
and the old one that is corrupt

Using your original library try the following:  make a temporary, duplicate copy of the library and try the three fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
Delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your Home/Library/Preferences folder, launch iPhoto and try again.
NOTE: If you're moved your library from its default location in your Home/Pictures folder you will have to point iPhoto to its new location when you next open iPhoto by holding the the Option key.  You'll also have to reset the iPhoto's various preferences.
    Fix #2
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys depressed and follow the instructions to rebuild the library.
Select the options identified in the screenshot.
    Fix #3
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
    Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

  • Importing photos from iphoto into idvd

I am trying to import photos from iphoto into idvd for a slideshow. When the photos move into idvd they are not in the same order as they were in the iphoto library. What could be the possible cause of this?? I did go into iphoto and place comments in after the fact. Would that have anything to do with it?

Try this possible solution from acgray on Mac OS X Hints:
I have worked with many users who like to take iPhoto albums and make DVDs of them with iDVD. However, one very annoying bug (feature?) has to do with the fact that when you are in iDVD, it randomizes the sort order of the Photos in your album. Not only that, but it is painstaking and time consuming changing the order in iDVD.
    My solution..
Select All in the album in iPhoto you want to use in iDVD as a slideshow. Then use File -> Export -> File Export. The secret is to select "Use Album Name" as this will rename the images in sequential order, based on the order that you put them in. Save them in their own new folder somehwere easy to find (ie on the Desktop).
Then, in iDVD, either drag, or I believe you can import the entire folder into the Slideshow project window, and voila! your slides are in order. I believe you can throw away the folder with the exported images as they should now be saved into the Project, but don't quote me on that.

  • Favorite themes appear twice in the Themes window

Whenever I save a theme as a favorite, it appears twice in my Themes window. When I click on each duplicate instance of any given theme in the Themes window, it seems to produce the same result, so operationally it's not a problem. Still, it's a nuisance to have to scroll through twice as much stuff to find what I want, and it doesn't seem right that each favorite should appear twice.
I've searched my drive for two instances of each .favorite file, but I can only find one instance, located in *~/Library/Application Support/iDVD/Favorites*.
I tried trashing the preferences file, but when I re-opened iDVD, I got the following prompt:
    +*Project Duration*+
+Your project exceeds the maximum content duration. To burn this project, remove some content.+
That's nonsense. I had already "burned" (saved) the project to a disk image, and it burned just fine. Besides, the project is shorter than other projects I've burned with no problem. The upside of having replaced the preferences file is that the double instances of my favorite themes were gone.
I had saved the old preferences file, so I restored that and trashed the new one. That got rid of the bogus Project Duration message, but now I'm back to double instances of my favorite themes again. There is definitely something screwy going on with iDVD.
    Can anyone help?
    Thanks!

Never mind...I solved it. When you trash the preferences file and iDVD creates a new one, it automatically selects "Best Performance", which naturally increases the filesize of the disk image file. It's sufficient to just acknowledge the Project Duration message and then go into Preferences:Projects and change the Encoding to "Best Quality". That fixes project duration problem.
Actually, there's a far more serious problem with "missing themes", but that will be the subject of another thread if the complete reinstall of iDVD I'm doing now doesn't solve it. Grrrrr......

  • Lost Mail after Reinstall of OS

I had to reinstall my OS 10.4.8 because of some issues with FileVault. Before archiving the system I backed everything up to an external storage device.
After reinstalling and reimporting all my files I realize one of the most important things that I'm missing is my Mail program's database of nearly 20k emails.
I went into my previous user's libarary>mail and imported that, but that only imported the mail folders I had created and not nearly all 20k emails.
Any idea where these emails reside and how to get them back? Is this a possiblity?
    Thanks Much!

Nevermind. Figured it out reading the following thread:

  • How to reinstall iDVD if I didn't receive a separate iLife Disk??

I am pretty sure my computer came with iLife 08 included, as I have all the iLife applications, and it always asks if I want to upgrade to iLife 09. However, I never received any separate disk.
Here is the problem. I wanted to try out iDVD, but all I can get is just the first menu, then the program immediately crashes every time. I tried running the disk utility on the install disk, and it says everything is fine. I tried moving the file "com.apple.iDVD.plist" to my desktop, but iDVD still does the exact same thing. I think I'll have to reinstall iDVD, but I am not certain how. I have been looking for it on the install disk, but couldn't find it. Can someone please give me step by step instructions on where to find it and how to just install iDVD without reinstalling Leopard and everything else again?
    Thanks!!

I don't see the "com.apple.idvd.plist." file in my user folder any more like I used to.
That preference file is not found immediately under your user name. Be sure to open the folders in exactly the order that I described in my post. If you still can't find it, do a search for this file using Spotlight.
Do I need to reset my preferences manually?
When iDVD is reopened after deleting the preference file, you will have to redo any changes that you had previously made (if you want to have them back).
If the procedure that I gave you doesn't fix the problem with your account, go to the next step.
Try this procedure as described by Old Toad, once of the very knowledgeable posters in these forums.
    +Trouble Shooting Preferences in Leopard+
    +1 - Create a folder titled "Preferences A" on the Desktop.+
+2 - Open the working Preferences folder, HD/Users/your_name/Library/Preferences, and move the contents to the Preferences A folder on the Desktop.+
+3 - Make a duplicate copy of the Preferences A folder on the Desktop as a precautionary backup.+
+4 - With the working Preferences folder empty run the application again and determine if the problems is fixed.+
    +5 - If the problem is fixed:+
+A - open the working Preferences folder (HD/Users/your_name/Library/Preferences).+
+B - Open the Preferences A folder on the Desktop, select all of the contents and drag them into the working Preferences folder.+
+C - When the Copy window pops up check the "Apply to All" check box and then click on the Don't Replace button as seen here.+
+5 - If the problem is NOT fixed, empty the working Preferencess folder and move the contents of the Preferences folder on the desktop back into it.+
    I hope this helps.
