I'm trying to re index my loop browser in LP9 / OSX10.6.1
Are you having the same problem?
After trashing the 'Apple Loop Index', I pull in a folder from an external drive and notice that previous folders added to my browser have gone, including Jam Packs.
Also, I can't find the 're-index' option within the loop browser search option (right click brings down a list but the re-index option isn't there)
Interested to see whet you find.

Yep, I also had issues, where indexing the LP8 way (dragging folders with loops from the Finder onto the Logic loop browser) just bluffed to work (I dropped the folder on the LB, a progress window appeared, things apparently got done, but then nothing, no new entries in the Loop Browser.
So it seems that it is a L9 problem, since our Macs' are different in every aspect (Me: PPC- you: Intel, me: Leopard- you: Snow Leopard).
I finally decided to put all my loops in their default install locations and reindex them from there:
*Library/Audio/Apple Loops/Apple:*
Jam Pack 4 - Symphony Orchestra
Jam Pack Voices
Jam Pack World Music
*Library/Audio/Apple Loops/iLife Sound Effects:*
(13 folders)
*Library/Audio/Apple Loops/User Loops:*
(some folders with my own and 3rd party Loops)
*Library/Application Support/Garageband/Apple Loops:*
Apple Loops for Garageband
Jam Pack 3- Rythm Section
for thorough reindexing, here are the steps:
1. Quit Logic and/or any other app that uses Apple Loops.
2. Go to all the locations I pointed out and trash all the index files from the *Apple Loops Index* folders. Also check the same locations in your Users/'you'/Library folder.
3. Start Logic with a new empty project, open the loop browser window by hitting the o key. Now drag the folders mentioned above in bold onto your loop browser. Logic should now index them correctly, including the foldermenu !http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2743/4085966954bf4fc039d7o.png! in the loop browser.

Loop Browser - Removing files/folders not indexed in the Apple Loops Index

Hi...
I experimented with dragging in a SFX folder to the Logic Pro Loop Browser window. It asked me if I wanted to copy files to the Apple Loops folder or reference the original files, and I selected reference the originasl files.
The SFX files were then listed under the OTHER area of the View menu.
Question... HOW do I remove these SFX files/folder from the OTHER view menu?
I have tried deleting all of the Apple Loop Index files and that did not work.
I have tried deleting the actual SFX files/folders, and after they disappear, but when I restore the SFX files/folders to their source location they reappear in the logic browser view menu.
Is there some where else Logic stores Loop Browser reference data which can be deleted to remove these OTHER files/folders from the Loop Browser view menu?

Success...
OK I found the solution.
1) I deleted the SFX audio files from the referenced HDD source location.
2) I opened Logic and re-index the Loop Browser.
3) I quit Logic and copied the SFX files back to the HDD.
When I opened Logic this time, the SFX files/folders referenced under the OTHER menu were gone.
Because I have a huge production music & SFX library, the best way to audition these sources for use in a Logic project, is to audition in iTunes and then just drag whatever I need right from within itunes into the Logic project.
That keeps my Logic loop browser more manageable and focused on composing.

Missing / No "Apple Loops Index" Folder of TXT Files

I've been having a weird issue for a while now, even after doing a clean install of Yosemite again. It seems I've never had an Apple Loops Index folder in my Macbook's Library, and even when I make one from scratch in the proper location and run a loops re-index from both LPX and GarageBand, no .txt index files are made. I've never seen the folder or files before. The reason why I'm asking about this is because I've had some issues with missing Apple Loops folders that I definitely have in my HD library, but they won't show up. Many support forums advised trashing the Apple Loops Index text files and re-indexing, but I have no way of finding this folder. Has anyone experienced this or read any similar issue reports?

To move the loops to an external drive:
1. Move all of the loops from the Apple Loops folders above and move them to the external drive.
2. Delete all of the Index files.
3. Use the Loop Browser to reindex the loops from the new drive.
Be sure to drag the loops as individual folders (in other words if you store them in a folder called loops and then have groups of loops under that) if you don't, you will have one large group instead of several smaller ones. It makes it easier to find what you want.

Manually Index Apple Loops in Logic Studio?

I've been using Puremagnetik (www.puremagnetik.com) Apple loops for quite a while now and they all worked fine until I installed Logic Studio. Now the browser doesn't see them. Is there a way manually "force" index the Apple Loop Browser? I remember in Logic 7 there was a way to do this, but I don't see it here.

Can I relocate the Apple Loops & Index folder to another drive?

There's like 10GB of Apple Loops on my boot drive. I would LOVE to move all of that stuff off to a data drive. Is there a PLIST file or something that tells SoundtrackPro, etc where this treasure-trove of stuff is located - or is it hardwired to be in the Library folder on the boot drive?

Why doesn't Logic recognize my loop as an Apple Loop

I have challenges with getting LPX to recognize my wav > aiff file as a bona fide apple loop that I can then stretch tempos.
I have a drum brushes loop that I exported in WIN7/Audition, saved as wav and moved over the my mac. Then I dragged it into LPX, found the correct exact tempo manually (60bpm) in order to make an Apple Loop. Couldn't do it with the wav so saved it as an aiff from within LPX. LPX sees the "tempo information" (not really) and then was able to drag into Apple Loops browser, still, didn't create the tempo meta data or whatever it does to allow me to stretch it. I drag the re-indexed loop on an audio track and it's juts the same 60 bpm loop. Changing my global tempo does not alter the tempo of the loop.
Appreciate any help it getting another 10 bpm outta this thing for a project. Took forever to find a decent ballad drum with brushes!

OK that works insofar as it saves the file with no issues and I can drag into the track area (does say there is time data to import- "YES") but it doesn't change with global tempo changes.
Also maybe there is a problem with the index? I deleted the other attempts from User Loops >SingleFiles folder but LPX still is searching for the file at every index.
So two problems now:
index still looks for older files
ALU is saving but LPX not changing tempo of Apple Loop
I read the manual re: file type.
The File Type tag determines if an application treats a file as a looping or non-looping file. Looping files are matched to the project tempo and key— if the Key tag is set to a value other than None. Non-looping files are not matched to the project tempo or key. (Untagged files added to a project are treated as non-looping.)
When I choose "Looping" in ALU, it changes the sound drastically which although would give tempo stretch, is probably ties to it thinking it's 120 bpm (and not 60)?
Yet it was recorded at 60 bpm.
The catch-22 is that the ALU can't recognize my tempo and if I change it (via choosing "looping", the only way to correct the beats btw) it messes with the sound because it's twice as fast.
Otherwise, as a non-loop, I'm stuck with only 60 bpm (even though it has "time data" to import)

Loop Browser Crashes Logic

I have "upgraded" from Logic 7 to 8 (actually a downgrade in my opinion) and then to Logic 9. Now in L9, the Apple Loop browser crashes logic. It will not reindex. I can't play anything back, any activity in the browser crashes Logic. I've seen this post;
Rebuilding the loop index :
Quit Logic if it is open.
Place the folder /Library/Audio/Apple Loops Index/ in the trash. (Note: GarageBand 1 and Jampacks 1-3 used a different location. See Where loops get installed for more information).
Open Logic.
Drag the folder /Library/Audio/Apple Loops/ from the finder into the Loop Browser in Logic.
Will this fix the problem? I'm concerned that this may screw up my browser in L7 or L8 both of which I continue to use. I also have a lot of 3rd party Apple Loops that are in the browser.. what will happen with these?
Any help is appreciated.

Those instructions you found somewhere are probably fine, but you might as well use the Apple version. Follow this procedure: "Logic: Rebuilding the Loop Index."
It will probably solve the problem, and it won't do any harm.
If it doesn't solve the problem, there are some other things we can try, so let us know.

Importing apple loops -why do some in a folder work and some dont?

im trying to drag and drop all my sample cds i have on my external drives into the apple loop browser in logic, some are folders in folders in folders as most cds are..why is it that when i drag the whole sample cd folder and drag it in that quite often just a few of the loops are installed in the window?..ive even tried dragging single files ,,they just seem to disapear although if i try to re-drag folders or files, im told they are already there?..i have some that have worked fine others dont even appear in the menu even tho if i try again it says they are there?..im keen to use the browser for audiotning sounds even if theyre not tagged ..anyone?..this is sooooo frustrating..many thanks in advance.,..T

you can search for this problem using google to see if any solutions work for you. but i found this post by urami (who is very knowledgeable):
It has nothing to do with font name itself. Also, by the way, font being a system component, can't be easily renamed in NotePad. You will need dedicated font editing tool like Macromedia's Fontographer. Anyway, Flash simply does not support some fonts and font's families. Unlike Other tools you brought up, Flash is vector based and not catered to handle all kind of fonts, but specific groups only. In fact if you deal with more applications, you will realize that it's a common issue. CorelDraw supports literally any font, half of which won't never shop up in Photoshop, then these that show up in photoshop, half of it won't show up in Flash, and so on. You just can't use all the fonts and it won't matter whatever you change their names. Why did some of my apple loops disappear?

Some of my apple loops are not showing up in my loop browser. Its not because of any options, I have checked that all out. The loops are still on my computer but they don't show up in my loop browser.

I think something is wrong with the apple loop browser. do you happen to have alot of loops loaded in?
I import loop folders all the time. with the same kind of files in them. yet sometimes only half or even less than half show up after "indexing"

Regarding apple loops that come with GB

I recently had help with reindexing my apple loops. After deleting all my loop indexes for both the Apple loops that came with GB and the ones I've bought from other sites, I dragged all the loop folders back into GB. I had no problems with dragging the user loops (the ones I bought) and reindexing them. However, for some reason, the apple loops folder that came with GB will not reinstall. The window comes up after I drag it into GB that it is reindexing and then the window comes up with me needing to sign in to ok the process. But when the reindexing is done and I go to show all to see if the apple loops are there, the only ones I can see under show all are the ones that I bought and downloaded. What is weird is that my apple loops that came with GB are on my hard drive as when I click on that folder (Mac hd/library/audio/apple loops/apple/apple loops for garageband) they are all showing there. I can click on them and the demo plays. When I check in the same path but choose apple loops index instead of apple loops, there are no indexes to be found (as should be as I dragged them earlier to trash), but obviously it means the reindexing wasn't done even though the window showed that the process was taking place. I still have all the indexes removed from both apple loops and user loops in my trash. I don't want to delete them in case I need to put something back to fix this problem.
Any help for me with this? I did do disk utility/repair permissions, but that doesn't seemed to have helped that problem as the list when it was finished did not include anything for GB. I really need to get these loops back in as I already have songs done for leading worship that need those loops.
Again, any help would be needed and much appreciated.

maybe I should now remove myself from having permission to do it
without a more solid knowledge base from which to draw, it just seemed like a good idea. before i made a change like that and left it, i'd want to do a bit of reading on why permissions should/would be set the way they are. iow, find out if there's a reason i'm not listed, and granted full access as an admin.

Apple Loops

Hey all, i have been successfully converting various sound files to apple loops (full disclosure i like making sample based hip hop, a la beastie boys, etc). recently when i am editing a piece of audio, rather than importing the correct region information into apple loops browser, i will go to retrieve the sample and the tempo will be different from what was assigned and there will be dead air at the end of the loop. i'm sorry if this is unclear, but any help at all would be much appreciated. thanks.

Creating Apple loops within the arrange window

I have tried this before and had the same result again and again.
I have a stereo recording of a drum kit at 120 bpm which I have chopped to a 2 bar cycle and want to turn it into an apple loop. to fit it into the song I am working on which is at 100 bpm.
I select "add to apple loops library" from the Region drop down menu in the arrange window. the apple loops genre selection window opens which adds it to the apple loops browser. easy!
But when I drop the loop back into the arrange window onto an Audio track within the same song which is 100bpm, it stays at the original tempo and doesn't snap to the bar. but still loops stretches and does what an apple loop should do but at the wrong tempo. what is that all about?

if you've dropped the loop from the apple loop browser to the arrange window you then have to open it again in apple loop utility to sort it out by selecting "open in apple utility" from the Audio drop down menu on the arrange window which gives you a chance to edit it properly and now I have a decent loop. but then I have to save it again in the initial menu "add to apple loops" which I have to reclassify it again I thought it'd be a good idea to actually get rid of the first menu choice "add to apple loops" window and just have a window within logic which uses the same engine as apple loops utility and uses the same audio channel (the Last enabled channel in the Environment to Audition the loop because now when Apple loop utility opens the core Audio gets confused and comes out of my comuter speaker and then after a few cycles comes out of the Interface. I think there are too many "menu this", "loop utility that's" going on in logic. I do hope Logic 8 is going to trim away all the excess Lard which Logic has gained since mac took it off Emagic.

Strange! Loops sound bizarre in Loop Browser - but not the original CD

Hi,
Just bought Jazz Essentials from Beta Monkey Music... Apple Loops from a Third Party. I put in the CD - and dragged all the folders at once into the Apple Loops Browser. Took awhile to copy...
All the loops sound like they are going through a gated reverb or a delay - really bizarre - and not very pretty to listen to. Yet, when I listen to samples from the CD - no reverb - and no bizarre-ness.
Suggestions? I probably should drag one folder at a time - right? But, if so - how do I delete all these bad loops now?

This is so strange!
There is a "full sample" with each new set of samples - in other words - the original 3 minutes sample that the smaller, cut up samples were taken from: these 'full' samples sound FINE... it's the cut up ones that sound strange as heck.
Remember - they sound fine on the CD... so odd.

Adding apple loops?

Hi guys,
Wonder if you can help me with this.
I have a few Big Fish sample cd's that have apple loops on them, is there a way I can add them so they show up in the logic apple loops browser in the appropriate section?
Where would I need to copy them? I have all my samples on an external hd so would it be possible to reference them to show up in the browser??

I am having trouble making my own apple loops and am hoping someone can helo: When I highlight an audio region in the arrange window, use the "add to apple loops library" under the local region command, the loop shows up in the apple loops browser, but it is an empty audio region when i drag into the arrange window to an audio track. when i drag a midiloop into the browser, it seems to work out fine, and i can create a green apple loop, but not with audio. i've noticed, that the loops are saved under users/library/apple loop/user loops/single files, but even when i try to import the audio files from this folder as audio into the arrange window or audio window, they still come up as empty files. can anyone tell me what i'm doing wrong?

Some Apple Loops refuse to index when dropped onto the Loop Browser

I'm hoping somebody has a fix for this odd problem. Some of the Apple Loops which came with version 1.0.1 refuse to index via the loop browser.
First off, I had to re-install GarageBand 1.0.1 after an invalid library error message appeared after upgrading to Tiger. The re-install wasn't completed totally and it did the same thing on 2 attempts. The next error message was: Apple Loops are missing, or something to that effect. I had to install the Apple Loops found in HD->Library->Application Support->GarageBand by dropping them onto the GarageBand Loop Browser at the bottom of its window. It indexed them, they appeared, and I was happy.
Today, for some reason, I looked through the loops folder mentioned above and noticed about one third of the loops do not appear in the Loop Browser, naturally some really neat stuff is missing! So I decided to drag & drop these Apple loop files onto the browser individually. It says it's indexing them, althought the guitar icon in the dock jumps while doing so, but they never appear and don't show-up in the search box either. They can however be dropped onto the Timeline from the Finder and will play as a music file. The problem is that I cannot listen to them from the loop browser for easy selecting when arranging.
Is there any way to get these stubborn Apple files to appear & play in the Loop Browser? I was hoping they could be added via the Timeline to the Loop Browser, but have had no success. Also, I tried the Apple Loops Utility thinking maybe the appropriate tags were missing, but can't figure out what is missing, if anything.

The Loop Browser filters what it displays by only showing loops in the same Time Signature as the song you've created, and within 2 semitones of the Key your song is in.
You can change the latter by tuning off Keyword Browsing in GB's preferences.
